I have been a Crutchfield customer for over 20 years. I've always bought pioneer headunits but after Crutchfield sold me a Kenwood carplay unit for my truck, I knew I wanted one for my wife's car. I could not have been happier with this unit. It had been out of stock for weeks but Crutchfield emailed me when it came back in. It fit perfectly in a 2014 Crosstrek and looks great. I'm a Crutchfield customer for life!
Pros: Ease of operation and install. Great features at a great price. Reliability of a name brand.
Cons: I wish it had wireless CarPlay but it is still fantastic.

Much better than the Bose system

2003 GMC Envoy XL
I have a 2003 GMC Envoy and I bought this to replace the dated Bose system from the factory. Really clean looking install and more features than I'll ever need. Music and maps with Android Auto interphases easily. I have tons of music on my phone and it plays it all. Waze works seamlessly to get me where I want to go warning me of all the pitfalls on the way. The hands free phone feature works a treat. Back up camera works great also. It also sounds way better than the Bose system with more than enough ways to adjust the sound than I can use. The audio control buttons on the steering wheel work as well. Really happy with my Kenwood.

Great, but one key flaw.
Crutchfield customer from Auburn, WA on 3/22/2021
Great head unit for replacement of my 2013 Black Diamond Avalanche. Being iDatalink compatible, combined with the Maestro it had no issue maintaining all functionality of front and rear controls and displays. The interface is simple and easy to navigate. My one complaint is the limitation that Kenwood has (at least in this unit) with steering wheel controls. The Track Up/Seek up and /Track Down/Seek down buttons do not work the way they should in anything but radio or bluetooth device mode. They SHOULD cycle up or down through presets but they do not, except in the radio or a bluetooth connected device. In Radio you must put the mode to "Auto 2" and then it will cycle through presets, otherwise all it does is seeks to the next station. In a bluetooth device it works correctly changing to the next or previous track. In SiriusXM however, ALL it will do is seek channels up and down. This means you must reach over and PRESS the preset to change the station. Defeats the purpose (in this source anyway) of the steering wheel controls to keep your eyes on the road.

This was my second radio as the first didn't have much control over the sound and subwoofer. I've only had this in for a week, but I am very happy with the control that this unit has over the sound, with both the subwoofer control and all the other sound controls. I read that some people were unhappy with the screen response, but so far I've been very happy with the screen response!
Pros: Sound control, sound quality
Cons: None yet!

This a great stereo. Touch screen works like a charm. Has plenty of inputs/outputs. Sounds amazing. I would've have it 5 stars but I'm trouble connecting my Android phone to android auto. Keeps giving an error code. Seems this is a common problem after searching for a solution. This is my first new radio in decades. I love it! Be sure to connect that E-brake wire to complete the Android Auto setup. The screen is responsive, even in the cold. It is clear and I can still view it with polarized glasses on. It connects pretty fast I think, equal to the Alpine that came in my wife's Jeep.
Pros: A lot of features for the price point.

I put this head unit in a 2015 Tacoma that the Bluetooth quit working on. The install went very well and we were glad that I purchased the shallower head unit with out the cd player because with all the wiring harnesses it was pretty tight behind the head unit. The unit it self works very well and I am very glad that I got the unit with the android car play as the navigation works really good through the unit. I am able to use the factory USB to connect to my phone which makes it convenient to hook up. The sound is a big improvement from the factory radio with much more depth and bass. When I contacted Crutchfield on the radio purchase they stated that there was a memorandum that said the steering wheel controls might not work without the full IDATA hookup which I did not need. I am happy to say that everything works with the steering wheel controls and this has been a great update for my truck.

Android Users Beware
Kathy from Wylie, TX on 2/18/2021
If you are an Android user, do not buy this product. I have been fighting with it since received in October. I finally gave up and called Kenwood to find out, I need to uninstall, ship to them, see if they can duplicate the issue, and then they will send it back. It seems to work fine for Apple users. I also think the display looks better in the pictures than in person. The one great thing is the bluetooth, the microphone wire is quite long I was able to run it up my A post and put it at the top just below where it meets the headliner. Great sound on the bluetooth.
Pros: Bluetooth
Cons: Android Auto

Wonderful sound and integration!
Crutchfield customer from Oxford, OH on 1/20/2021
This unit has amazing sound! The Maestro adapter allowed for seamless integration with the existing steering wheel controls and JBL amplifier/ speaker system in my 2008 Toyota Sienna. It also has an amazing amount of audio controls. I had to call to get some help with the wiring, but the technical support people were superb! Two things to note - the USB cord for phone connection comes out of the back of the unit, so you will need to figure out where you want it to go. It took some doing, but I found a way to thread it to a whole occupied by an unused cigarette lighter. Also, The Maestro unit requires wiring to the OBD-II port, which required navigating the cord through some very tight spaces in the dash of the Sienna. Overall, would strongly recommend this unit!

2014 Subaru Outback
I've had this radio installed for a week along side an iDatalink Maestro and so far I'm very much enjoying it. It's very feature rich for the price and has worked quite well. The only complaints I have are that the touch screen is resistive and not capacitive which makes it feel cheap. The UI is usable but not great, but if you're mostly going to use Android Auto or Apple Car Play that's not that big a deal. I kinda wish I'd sprung for a model with two USB ports, because I like to play music off a flash drive when I'm not using Android Auto, but that's poor planning on my part and not a problem with this head unit. Overall I give it 4 stars. I think it would be a 5 star unit if it had a capacitive touch screen!
Pros: Android Auto works great. iDatalink Maestro compatibility. Very feature rich.
Cons: Touch screen feels cheap.

This is my first venture into Kenwood products. I have always used Pioneer, but their offerings in a shallow mount unit were very limited and expensive. This Excelon fit the bill, ticking every box on my list: Android Auto, iDataLink Maestro compatible, shallow mount, budget. It has a ton of features compared to previous Pioneer head units I've used. This is both a great feature and a downfall. My reason for docking one star is that trying to tune the sound quality is proving very difficult with nearly 4 times the amount of options that I'm used to. Don't get me wrong, it definitely has the ability to sound great I'm sure. I just haven't been able to find the sweet spot that I was able to achieve with simpler controls.

I mostly picked this unit because it had two camera inputs; one for my reverse cam and a second for my travel trailer. I couldn't find another unit that gave access to the camera with an easily accessible 'real' button. The user interface is very easy to navigate and the touchscreen is far more responsive than I expected. I can't comment on audio quality because I'm using an adapter to my factory amplifier.
Pros: Ease of use Button lighting can be completely customized to match factory dash backlighting.
Cons: None that I'm aware of.

Bought for my 2017 Wrangler JKU to finally be able to have Apple CarPlay. Not only has this deck provided a lot of new/better features for me, it has also woken up the sound from the factory Alpine speakers and amp. Sure, I know upgrading all the speakers would be even better, but the deck alone has made a huge improvement. I love the fact that I could also add on a front camera which will come in especially helpful when off-road. With the unit being a digital media receiver, it didn't require removing the factory rear bracket as seen in most YouTube videos for JK stereo upgrades. Install was a piece of cake for this head unit.
Pros: Features Sound quality
Cons: Wish you could change the seek mode for Sirius to jump presets rather than just channels.

I have not hooked up the backup camera to my car's existing backup camera, as the installation instructions were not clear enough for me to understand where the camera input would be coming from. Maybe I'll take another shot at it soon. The hardest part about the installation was removing the climate control panels with the manual cables for vent and temperature control. There is no outside USB port on the receiver. I never thought about checking that. There is a usb cord coming from the rear but that is a challenge to figure out how to bring it to the front. Most receivers offer both. The Bluetooth did connect easily though. The volume buttons are tiny and hard to adjust while driving. The sound is very nice however I am going to add an amplifier soon to get more volume.

Been using for about a month. The unit tied in well with my 2013 Ford Fusion. Audio and climate controls, audio, blue tooth all work well, as does Android Auto. The button s on the climate and Sirius XM screens are small and condensed, not the easiest to manage when driving. The parking assist screen will display as I slow/stop at stop light. This is annoying. Have yet to figure out hot to disable it. All things considered, it's a good value with lots of functionality. - I had initial trouble getting Android Auto to function (unrecognized device error 4446), but the problem turned out to be the cable connecting my phone to the USB.
Pros: Lots of functionality. Screen display quality is good.

Great features for factory replacement
Derik from MONTROSE, CO on 9/25/2020
2012 Ford F-350
I purchased this to replace the factory Sync enabled unit in my 2012 Ford F350. Some of the features I wanted required some manual intervention, but I am extremely pleased with how this turned out. My F350 has a tuner, which takes over the OBD2 port, so the Crutchfield default method for maintaining steering wheel controls would not work. I instead used the PAC-RD4 and it works very well. I wanted to enable backup camera on this new, larger screen (factory was in rear-view mirror). Crutchfield did not support this, however I was able to track down the video and ground signal in the passenger side pillar, and tap into it with an RCA cable. I also wanted to enable a front facing camera, which was relatively straightforward. I was able to use the existing Aux input, and tap into it for a factory looking input to the new Kenwood. Their are method of using the existing USB connector, but it requires an adapter and results in much longer cables. I was concerned about the cable length, so I modified the Kenwood USB adapter to fit in the factory slot (shaved the connector and use a little bit of epoxy). The result is a factory look with new functionality. The mic is mounted where the factory mic was, but is more obtrusive. I was unable to come up with a functional solution to keep the same look and feel for the mic. Audio quality is great! The only downside I experience is slow display response on the Kenwood. Giving it 4 stars as display response i
Pros: Features and ability to integrate are fantastic. Able to update a 2012 F350 Sync to something much more modern and cool without having to make many compromises. Dual camera support is very nice. Audio controls are fantastic
Cons: Screen response time is sometimes slow. The warning screen on startup is annoying.

2006 Lincoln Town Car install notes
Keith T from Satellite Beach, FL on 9/12/2020
2006 Lincoln Town Car
Played with it for an hour before calling it a night...few notes of vehicle specific install to assist others with similar vehicles. - Metra adapter instructions failed to mention not to use the mounting ring that comes with the radio so I stood there trying to figure out how to apply the adapter before finally noticing bolt holes in the radio casing- discard Kenwood mount ring - don't mount the adapter squared-up to the radio because the mount bolt locations won't sit flush in the dash. took a few loosely installed attempts to find the right holes and acceptable angle that allowed the adapter to sit flush and apply final torque - be extra careful removing the analog clock. mine already was already cracked near the screw hole and broke in half during removal - Axxess steering wheel control adapter...don't try figuring this out using your cell phone. Well, not for me anyway. Doesn't come adequate instructions for the dozen wires and only use three of them. Called Crutchfield support, but had to wait 30 minutes for a call back. During that time I got on my PC and visited Axxess's website for vehicle specific instructions. By the time CF called back I had figured it out and used the called to verify. For my application- red & black connected as expected, but gray w/red tapped into pin 18 of factory harness. Setup is straight forward- typical Kenwood fashion. One quick observation was that the buttons at the bottom were flimsy/loose...not what you'd expect from
Pros: not too bad to install typical Kenwood ease of use
Cons: trial-n-error during install buttons along bottom were flimsy/loose and not what I'd expect from an Excelon unit of this price

Phone Doesn't Work!!!
Kevin from LONE TREE, CO on 9/10/2020
The jury is out! All works well with one exception: the phone never stays connected. Kind of a big deal!!! The phone is initially not seen. "There is no phone connected. I will try to find one." The phone then connects, but within a couple minutes I receive a message to effect of "The phone is disconnected." I've tried everything...Called Crutchfield. No solution. Call iData/Maestro. No solution. Best recommendation thus far (from iData/Maestro) is to reflash the Maestro component. Tried that. Took apart the dash (for a third time) removed the radio and wiring (for the second time), and tried to flash. For whatever reason it won't let me. To say the least, very frustrating. I'm getting near the end of the 60 day warranty and to the point of return for an alternative or roll the dice and assume some day this will start working as it should..............
Pros: Most things
Cons: Phone

Great deck!
Vinny_Fonz from SAN PABLO, CA on 8/3/2020
2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser
This is the first double din radio I have installed after only installing single dins. The absence of a cd player is nice because it makes this unit more compact, allowing more room behind the unit for extra wiring harnesses. Once installed, the interface is really simple to use. Easily connects with Apple Carplay, which was the main reason I chose this deck for my parent's FJ Cruiser. They used to have an outdated Eclipse double din, with navigation that required a disc and was years outdated. Now they have an updated unit, with carplay, an interface they are familiar with since they have iPhones. My parents also listen to a lot of streamed music. Which is where the music industry seems to be headed, no more discs. This unit has six channels of preamps, all clean 4V signals. So if you're going to be installing amplifiers, this is a necessity. It also has some EQ tenability so unless you plan on using an outboard EQ, you should be able to get dialed in pretty nice. Overall, great unit, plus we got it as an open box item, no blemishes whatsoever. My parents love the unit and if they're happy, I'm happy.
Pros: All the features that it comes with!
Cons: None.

Sounds great, settings are easy to navigate once you get used to them, and the small form factor makes it super easy to install. The only thing I wish it had was a second USB port so that I could leave my thumb drive plugged in when using Android Auto.
Pros: Android Auto (Haven't tried Carplay yet) Multitude of settings, vehicle info display (via iDatalink), great sound
Cons: Only 1 USB connector (can use the car one via the iDatalink but it doesn't have as many features and it overrides the headunit's port)

Very good radio for low to mid-price cars
Crutchfield customer from Maricopa, AZ on 7/24/2020
This radio/entertainment system is certainly not bad but the display is not quite as large as the original Ford Taurus display which makes this display a little more crowded, a lot busier than the factory radio. The factory radio was the upgraded Sony which sounded very good, but not great. I would have given it 4 stars. The DMX706s's audio is not as full as the Sony and the audio adjustments are spread across too many separate screens. The 3 stars are for an average sounding entertainment system with an interface that doesn't need to be so busy.
Pros: It does offer a lot of functionality. It is easier to use now that I've learned my way around it. The sound can be greatly improved by using the built in equalizer or its presets, more audio/boost settings on another screen which enhances the sound even more.
Cons: Too many screens to jump through to adjust sound settings. One USB port. Full phone functionality requires the phone be plugged into the USB port. I was aware of that but didn't realize how inconvenient it would be to unplug my USB music drive so I can plug my phone in, and vice-versa. The angle of my dash exposes the screen to a lot of direct sunlight making it hard to see at times - there is probably a setting for that which I have not had time to look for. Still adjusting sound.

The shallow mount this stereo has is a must for a 2012 Ram . This radio was a perfect fit with the proper dash kit and I had tons of room in the behind the Head Unit for my Maestro Steering wheel controller, back up camera wires, harnesses, amp wires And Sirius radio Tunner. I can't believe I still have more room to build Because of the small size of this. I had to do some light trimming of the dash but the dash is still there. The controls are easy to access and the CarPlay just made me love my truck even more . Only thing I wished this radio had was two USB ports. For the price of this head unit you can't go wrong.
Pros: Slim fit tons of power and features with added accessories.
Cons: Only One USB port..

A very nice head unit after being used for about a week. There are many features that I will take advantage of and it's worth every penny in my eyes. It may have been changed now, but the information regarding the preamp voltage was incorrect, and I was upset to see that it was wrong. A slightly annoying feature about this reciever is the volume control. You can press and hold the down button to quickly lower the volume, but not the other way around. A simple work around for this is to use the actual head unit, but is very cumbersome for steering wheel controls. Great product overall, I'm very happy with it
Pros: Huge EQ customization, basic DSP controls such as time alignment and subwoofer phase switching, beautiful screen
Cons: Volume down is automatic but volume up isn't

Very impressed with the unit. I has several different methods for tweaking and fine tuning the sound quality! It made my vehicles system sound amazing!!! My vehicle is a 2006 Toyota Sequoia with a factory JBL system in it, replacing the head unit with this unit really unlocked the full potential of the rest of my sound system. I am extremely pleased with it. There is a little con: the user manual does not explain how to go about customizing the wallpaper, so I had to turn to the internet for help, but everything I tried did not work. So I am waiting for a response form the Crutchfield tech support. Otherwise this unit is phenomenal!

Great unit, puts out great signal to all speakers. Im running 4 rockford fosgate 3 way door speakers (55 watt max) and it powers them very well, more that enough volume and crystal clear sound. Touch screen is very responsive, almost no delay at all. In my 2017 Civic Sport Hatchback the backup camera only has the wide angle view not, but it was the view I used anyway. There might be a way to change that but I haven't done the research yet. The ready harness did have some mislabeling on the steering wheel conrtol module, and the other axxess module for power and camera. I ended up having to splice into factory wiring to get steering wheel controls to work, but customer service was top notch and guided me through. Very happy with this head unit.

Very Nice Receiver. Excellent features. The sound is also much better. This was a replacement to a defective receiver that I returned due to the great customer service and technical service departments at Crutchfield. I had a problem with the Kenwood DMX396 which kept locking up while using the SXM radio and the entire receiver would become unresponsive. Long story short this receiver is much better. This is my first Kenwood, as I have always been a Pioneer fan. This just had the features that I wanted, at a really good price. The unit, along with the Maestro, were easy to install with very good instruction. The screen on this unit is very nice, and the touch works great. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay both connect and function as they should. Bluetooth connects like it should. Everything just works. I love this thing. There are so many features that I still haven't seen them all. My only complaint, and it is a small one, is that it doesn't dim as much as would like at night. It is set to Sync, so I tried adjusting the brightness with the controls that dim my dash, but that didn't work. Hoping that I can figure it out, as I have not been able to find a manual adjustment on the unit itself. Otherwise, this thing is brilliant.
Pros: Ease of use. Features. Screen. Sound Quality.
Cons: Limited dimming adjustability.

There is a lot of stereo here for the price. This is my second Kenwood Excelon unit and I like them both. Didn't need the DVD player in this one (the rear entertainment system is connected) and it works great. I've got the Maestro installed and it brought the lack luster features of an old school Toyota into the 20th century! Highly recommend the Kenwood/Maestro combination. With the wiring harness the install was pretty simple and straight forward.
Pros: Fully integrated - all steering wheel controls work plus additional vehicle info on the radio!
Cons: As with all Kenwoods - volume above 15 requires a press for each increase (up to 15 just press and hold). I really wish I could just hold the volume button to scroll to the desired level. Small inconvenience for all of the added benefits of the system though.

A really nice Head Unit
Crutchfield customer from San Antonio, TX on 1/14/2020
I upgraded to a DMX706S due to the DDX396 being too deep to fit into my Jaguar X-Type's dash. The DMX's slim chassis provided an abundance of room to relocate wiring and make after install adjustments to the unit. My ONLY criticism about the DMX706S is that you cannot hide input sources from the menu that don't have installed, and it's a PITA cycling through all of the "possible" sources with SWC (Steering Wheel Control) when you only use/actually have 3 or 4 of them available. Crutchfield's Tech Support is spot on and the customer service is second to none! I would give the DMX706S 5 stars if I didn't have to risk developing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome to change between FM radio and USB input.
Pros:
Cons: You cannot hide input sources that you don't have installed from the menu; It's a PITA cycling through all the "possible" sources to find the ones that you do.

Great but a little clunky
Ben from EVANS, GA on 12/29/2019
2017 Toyota Corolla iM
The radio looks great with a bright screen and easy to use touchscreen. I knocked it one star because it wasn't as seamless as implied and it is a little clunky/slow as you change functions. It connected to my daughter's Corolla IM backup camera but it won't automatically change to it when you put it in reverse. I connected all the wires as shown. I can make it work because it has a button on the bottom front to select the camera anytime you want to see it. I had the harness wired up for me and that was well worth the money. It plugged in well but left me with one connector from the old harness unused and I still had to cut/splice 4 wires for the rear view camera and 1 wire for the reverse connection. With the Maestro computer box and additional wiring harnesses, you have a pile of wires to shove back in your dash but there was plenty of room to put them in. I ran the wired USB connection through the "ashtray" area and that worked well. My daughter loves it and now she has hands free Apple Play. I would buy it again and anything beats the junk radio the car came with from the factory.
Pros: Great price and does all that I wanted
Cons: Rear camera doesn't come on when you put it in reverse, you have to select it manually. Even with paying for the wiring harness to be made, I still had to splice 5 wires. I was hoping to splice zero wires and have everything plug in cleanly.

This deck is loaded with features at a really great price. It also has a very shallow depth which is about half that of most other double din decks. The depth leaves room for all the wiring and an interface. Anyone who has ever installed a modern radio knows how precious space is when trying to fit all the wiring and hardware behind the deck inside the dash.
Pros: Great price Outstanding features Apple Car Play Compact deck depth
Cons: I let you know if I come across one.

Strongly recommend the ready harness service, my setup in a 2006 Scion had an insane amount of wires and cables.... even with the ready harness service it took a good bit of time to run the "auxilery" items (cable for backup cam, OBD II sensor, mic, aux-input, etc.). Would have been way worse if I had to mess with all those harnesses...

2003 Chevrolet Tahoe
2003 Tahoe The installation with the Ready Harness and the Pac5 interface was a breeze. The fact that this shallow unit fits w/o cutting the dash apart is a bonus. The sound is very good too. Apple Car play (cabled only) and Blue Tooth pairing works well. Even maintained the rear seat audio controls - This is a winner replacement radio for the 2003 Tahoe I also added a back up camera at the same time. The Kenwood CMOS-230 fit quite nicely under the lift gate. I was able to take a fuse in the interior fuse panel for the switched power- The Fuse was called "SEO ACCY" it's switched with the ignition. I was also able to route the camera wire into the interior under the weather stripping for the ljftgate. So this installation required no actual vehicle modifications My only complaint is the chime module sounds cheesy, That is a common complaint though.
Pros: Easy installation- Added Backup camera, Blue Tooth and Apple Car Play to a 2003 Tahoe
Cons: Cheezy sounds from Chime module

Display is awesome, menus are intuitive and easy to navigate, installation and setup was easy. I did it myself in just a few hours, and most of that time was spent working all of the adapters for the RAC and chime, as well as the steering wheel controls. I did the majority of that on my dining room table. Once that was done the actual stereo install was easy peasy and wrapped up in about 30 minutes. I love the stereo, and it has a great sound even without upgrading the speakers that were already in the truck yet.

2015 Jeep Wrangler
I replaced a Pioneer AVH-4100NEX stereo in my 2015 Jeep Wrangler with this unit. Apple Car Play was always wonky with the Pioneer stereo. There was never a problem with Car Play with the Kenwood stereo In my other car. This one works flawlessly as well. As a bonus, because of the shorter chassis depth you do NOT need to remove or cut the stock rear radio brace like you do with a full size double-DIN unit. I had removed my rear brace for the Pioneer install a few years ago and thus, lost the ability to screw down the top of the dash in the top storage tray. I reinstalled that piece so that my dash is now un-modified.
Pros: You do not need to modify your Jeep JK for this to fit.

2006 Toyota Tacoma
Very happy with purchase. I installed this in my 2006 Toyota Tacoma, replacing a 6 year old Pioneer that did not have Apple Car Play. I did not expect it to sound a lot better than the Pioneer with my stock speakers but was pleasantly surprised that the sound quality was quite a bit better. The ability to adjust the screen viewing angle and picture settings allowed me to set up the head unit for good visibility in bright sunlight, something the Pioneer could not do. I'm still dialing in settings but so far it sounds best with most of the custom setting off. Perhaps they will be of more use when I upgrade speakers and add an amp. I called Crutchfield support twice before making this purchase, they really steered my in the right direction, not pushing the most expensive option. They offered good advise and helped me make the decision that was right for me. At the last minute I bought a backup camera from a local vendor (sorry Crutchfield). I called Crutchfield for help identifying the parking brake and reverse light wires. Julia helped me out and was able to email me detailed pictures of my exact vehicle. Great customer service made my install much easier. Thanks Julia! If I could change anything it would be the alloying screen that shows up when you first turn on the truck. Something about safe use when driving. I hit OK and it disappears. I plan on upgrading to 4 new speakers, an amp and powered sub over the next few months. I will definitely purchase through
Pros: Sounds great with stock speakers. Good display adjustments. Great EQ.
Cons: Annoying warning screen at power on

What I really wanted was something that connects to my iphone and made connecting to pandora, my music library and Wayz, easy. I does a great job connecting via bluetooth. It offers quick sound adjustment via an equalizer, not just bass, mid and treble. I think its a really good deal and you get a lot for what your paying. The only negative is relatively minor, I'd like to have more control over the light emitted at night. it does dim with the light on, but when it pitch dark, it feels too bright. This was a really good choice for me and had more features that I like that i didn't expect.

Paul from BOISE, ID on 11/14/2019
1999 Ford F-350
I like the Kenwood Excelon DMX706S! The touch screen is nice and responsive. Apple Car Play looks great and works well. Bluetooth streaming works well with no skipping like my car's factory stereo. The sound is great. There are lots of adjustments for sound. The install in my 1999 F-350 was not difficult for me but took some time. I spent hours on it. I would say if you don't work on equipment a lot it might be a lot to take on. I used a mini belt sander to open up the dash very carefully - a file was to slow. When done it fit so well (snug) I decided to sand the lock tabs off the two dash inserts - that way I don't have to take the whole dash apart when I want to install the camera. I don't use the apps like pandora so I can't say anything about them.
Pros: Apple Car Play looks and works great, touch screen is nice to look at and is responsive, bluetooth streaming of music works great, phone works just fine, and the sound is great, lots of adjustments for sound .
Cons: The illumination or back lighting could go a little darker although you can adjust the level for headlights on and off. This wouldn't hold me back from buying it again.

This went in a 2008 Ford Explorer XLT. Factory sub, SYNC, no factory navigation. It's rad. Spotify in the unit is rad. The engine gauges are pretty rad, too. All steering wheel controls work with the new rig. iDatalink Maestro went in just like it says it should, and the Crutchfield readyharness made the install super easy. I stuck the unit into the dash kit upside down at first, that was really the only complication with the whole install. High 5 to Mick in Support. He answered question fast and provided great info. He's rad.
Pros: Spotify, Crutchfield ReadyHarness, Maestro, Mick, Easy install

Really nice stereo. You can adjust the brightness of the display in the day or night. We use apple car play and works great, having the maps(both google and apple) is the best feature for us. Good audio quality, at least for me. Easy installation especially with the idatalink module to retain all my factory features.
Pros: Apple car play, good audio for me, a lot of fine tuning that you can do. 7" display is a good size for my 14 corolla.
Cons: Sometimes when I connect my iphone, the screen goes dark for some reason. I just navigate back Home and select CarPlay and works fine after that. Other than that no other issues, only had the stereo for about 2 weeks.

2010 Chevrolet Tahoe
I knew it was going to sound good because it's a Kenwood, and I was not disappointed. It connects well with Bluetooth for music and phone calls, everyone I have called says it sounds great, no road noise at all. Android auto is great for navigation and the Google voice recognition through the stereo is convenient when driving. There are a few things this stereo doesn't do well. The screen dimming is horrible, even if I shut the screen off, the black screen is still somehow too bright. Every once in a while I get calls, and it will not let me answer. The screen won't respond while ringing and I have to call the number back afterward. I wish there was a true screen mirror function. Also, an HDMI input would be nice. After all that, if you factor in the amazingly low cost, this is still a great stereo. 4 stars because the dimming issue and not being able to answer the phone really is annoying.
Pros: Sound Bluetooth connectivity Sound Navigation through android auto Sound
Cons: Dim is not dim enough Occasionally unable to answer calls No "true" screen mirror

This Kenwood is amazing. I upgraded from a much older Excelon with navigation. The DMX706S is much sleeker and easier to use. The display is larger and clearer and Apple CarPlay is outstanding. Being able to just Bluetooth music is also convenient. Installation was not horrible since previous receiver was a Kenwood, but I would highly recommend getting the Crutchfield pre-wired harness. (I have never installed a receiver and am not technical, so it took me awhile!) I didn't install a new rear view camera, just plugged in the old one, but may buy another because this has a front camera input as well. Great product!

Crutchfield is awesome. I ordered Kenwood DMX706 with Maestro adapter for my 2012 f150. As this was my first time doing such a project, it went very smooth. I did call Crutchfield support a couple of times and they were very friendly and helpful. Definetly Crutchfield earns their five star rating. Will certainly use Crutchfield for my future projects.
Pros: Fast delivery, great customer support, great products.
Cons: Maestro adapter wasnt very compatible with my sync system, so I refreshed my maestro and lost my sync system. Not a big loss since the new receiver covers for all the functions that sync did.

Got Rid of Sirius XM and this unit is awsome. Too much free music to pay Sirus $350 per year. Android auto replaces all of the functions of my old Unit and many more new funcions available.

Good for audio not entertainment.

For everyday use good radio, I bought this for my suburban which has multiple factory TV's. This radio was recommended to me I bought all the adaptors to make sure all the factory stuff worked and it does. The only problem is unless you have movies downloaded to a USB drive there's no way to watch anything on the rear screens. So I paid for all the adaptors for the rear entertainment to work to not be able to use it. I figured there would be some type of mirroring since no manufacturer wants to add HDMI at least that way you could add a fire stick.
Pros: Lots of features, looks clean in the dash.
Cons: Missing some key items to be a multimedia receiver.

Great receiver. Bought this to bring my car into the 21st century after the original head unit finally bit the dust. Sound quality of the stock stereo was excellent; didn't think the clarity could get much better but this receiver blew me away. Easy to install. Easy to use.

Nice stereo.
Crutchfield customer from Louisburg, NC on 8/29/2019
Nice radio for the price. The touchscreen is responsive, sound quality is nice, and I especially like the physical buttons on the bottom due to not having steering wheel controls. Installation was easy. Total install time was about 2.5 hours, and that included modifying the dash for the double din stereo, removing existing aftermarket mods, and running the new Sirius XM kit.

Great radio

If you don't need or want cd/dvd then get this with the short mounting depth. Half the mounting depth so wires and such are not such a critical part of install for some vehicles that just don't have as much dash mounting depth. The features are fantastic.
Pros: Half the mounting depth
Cons: No cd/dvd player

Looks OEM!
Crutchfield customer from Rathdrum, ID on 7/18/2019
This Kenwood brought my '99 F250 Super Duty into the 21rst century! The hardest part of the install was running wire for the backup camera. The stereo head was simple. I put a couple of thousand songs on a memory stick and plugged it into the USB port and it shuffles like a champ. When a call comes in you answer it on the touch screen and no one can tell I'm riding around in a diesel truck! This Kenwood looks great in the hole that used to hold the OEM stereo and I couldn't be happier.

Exceeded expectations

2012 Ford Mustang
The Shaker 500 in our '12 Mustang developed a constant 1.6 amp draw, killing batteries even when turned off before exiting. I'd already replaced the four speakers with Focals and Kickers, so now looked to replace the HU. Researched Carplay units and chose this, along with the MUS-1 install kit and Maestro unit. This was a big project with a lot of instructions from two brands, but I'm familiar with wiring so I dove in to it one Saturday morning. It took all day but I got it done, had some trial and error, and on first listen via BT actually thought it sounded pretty good, clean at volume but nothing to get excited about. Then I realized the factory subs weren't on, turned out I'd skipped the power antenna wire which triggers the factory amps. Once fixed, it really came alive and I could play with the myriad settings. Crossing everything at 80 Hz seems to be the sweet spot, and being able to bring the subs down -5db keeps the sound balanced with a good thump on the right songs. Next was the wife test, who's never really cared much about sound quality, and she was amazed. At this point we were only doing BT streaming via Sync and FM radio. Later we plugged in her iPhone and got our first glimpse of Carplay. That's the bomb, and is so intuitive you don't really need instructions. This setup has transformed her car and changed how she uses and enjoys it. Streaming music via Carplay sounds excellent, plenty of power with factory subs, and a very clean sound. Highly recommended.
Pros: Thorough installation instructions, which you'll need.

Not what i thought

The only reason i give this 3 stars is for the sound. I had problems from the beginning. First the harness would not work bc GM did something to the plug where the power cable would pop the pin out. Very smart. Next, on set up, the radio didn't work right away. That's ok. After 3 boot ups, everything was good. Next, the presets would slide down then when you selected the preset it would go back to the top. Weird. Finally, android auto. There is no android auto. We're trouble shot the system and no joy. I'm done with this radio. Time to move on.
Pros: Sound, audio, equalizer
Cons: Set up, no android auto, no voice recognition.

Pretty good interface. Works decently with Android auto and apple car play. The time alignment is pretty simple to set up. There is also a feature to set the stage height. Time alignment usually fixes that, but interesting feature. It did bring the stage up. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is the manual and the shipping from Crutchfield. The head unit was shipped with basically no padding in the box and was loose. The manual was almost useless for some of the features. The only annoying part is there is only video input for the cameras, but no audio input. There is an audio in right where you plug in the video RCA, but it doesn't work for audio.
