Feature-packed and camera-ready

Kenwood's DMX7704S digital multimedia receiver doesn't just have a big screen — it's got a big list of multimedia features. This Bluetooth®-equipped receiver handles both iPhone® and Android™ integration using Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™. But the really big news is that you can use the 6.95" touchscreen to control your smartphone, your audio, your video, and even select Kenwood dash cams.

Kenwood DMX-7704S digital media receiver

Works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Designed for dash cams

Dash cameras are becoming more and more popular, and this Kenwood is ready for its close-up. The DMX7704S is designed to work in total harmony with Kenwood's DRV-520 dash camera (sold separately). You can control the camera's view and video recordings using the receiver's resistive touchscreen, so you'll be able to record any drive. You'll also get lane departure warnings, collision alerts, and more.

Rear view, too

And with two camera inputs, you can also install a Kenwood rear-view camera and use the receiver's built-in parking guides to back up safely in any crowded lot. The touchscreen lets you adjust the viewing angle for the best possible off-axis viewing.

Apps on the big screen

Android Auto™: If you're an Android fan, you'll love how Android Auto integrates the Android platform into your driving experience in a non-distracting way. You'll have voice control access to Google Maps, weather, music, your phone, text messages, plus easy access to many of your favorite apps. Get more info at

Apple CarPlay™: CarPlay integrates your iPhone® into the driving experience, putting iPhone content at the driver's fingertips with minimal distraction. That means easy access to your music library, your phone, messages, navigation, and many third-party streaming music apps, too. Learn more at

Phone swapping: If your family includes both iPhone and Android users, you simply plug in the phone you want to use without having to choose a particular input or adjust menu settings for control.

Siri Eyes Free: With your compatible iPhone, you can take advantage of Siri Eyes Free functionality with a touch of the touchscreen, using your voice to place calls, select music, hear notification, add reminders, or even compose and listen to text messages.

HD Radio

HD Radio

The DMX7704S lets you enjoy HD Radio from participating stations, so you'll hear FM that's close to CD quality or AM that comes in clear and static-free. And if you're not in an area with HD Radio stations, don't worry — this Kenwood's sensitive radio tuner will pick up all the local analog stations, too.

Satellite and Internet radio

Using the controls on the receiver, you can access your favorite Pandora® or Spotify® Internet Radio stations from your iPhone or Android. You can also check out the amazing array of satellite radio programming by adding a SiriusXM tuner.

Plenty of inputs

You can also satisfy your music fix by connecting a portable music player to the rear aux input. And the two rear USB ports can also handle a thumb drive loaded with MP3, WMA, AAC, WAV, or FLAC music files.

Perfect your sound

The powerful built-in amplifier sends a crisp, clear signal to your speakers, while the 13-band graphic equalizer boasts Kenwood's Drive EQ feature — when the radio is playing at lower volumes it boosts frequencies in the music that are often masked by road noise.

The built-in DSP (digital sound processing) with digital time alignment lets you zero in on your perfect sound, while the three sets of 4-volt preamp outputs deliver an ultra-clean signal for adding additional amps for more power.

Think visual

You can get the look you like by choosing from a vast array of colors and backgrounds. This Kenwood plays video content in bright, clear detail when you're parked. When you're on the road, you can entertain your passengers by sending a movie from the receiver to a rear-seat screen.

iDatalink Maestro lets you keep your factory extras

The DMX7704S offers compatibility you won't find in many other aftermarket radios, thanks to the iDatalink Maestro module (not included). The module lets you keep factory features in your Chrysler, Ford, GM, Toyota, Fiat, or VW vehicle that you'd otherwise lose when you install a new radio. You'll also be able to check out expanded functionality on the Kenwood's screen, including gauges, climate controls, a distance sensor, and tire pressure and temperature monitors. It'll even integrate your stealth K40 radar detector into the stereo's display, so you can see and hear about incoming threats (coming soon).

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

    Touchscreen & Remote Control

6.95" Clear Resistive Touchscreen: The Kenwood DMX7704S features a 6.95" widescreen (16:9) clear resistive touchscreen LCD with LED backlighting. The clear resistive touchscreen LCD provides a high contrast ratio, crystal clear display, and vivid text. The LCD touchscreen has a resolution of 800 (H) x 480 (V) x RGB with 1,152,000 total pixels. The LCD touchscreen is highly responsive with touchscreen operations that include tap, touch & hold, flick left/right, and swipe up/down.

    • Custom Home Screen & Shortcuts: You can customize the head unit's Home Screen by rearranging the icons and moving the icons of the seven most sources you use most to this screen. Three programmable shortcut source keys offer a quick jump to your favorite sources
    • Background Color & Images: You can choose between nine preset background colors - Blue, Purple, Sky Blue, Yellow, Green, Amber, Red, Pink, White. You can also choose to link the displays color with the unit's front-panel variable color illumination that you set. In addition, there are six preset background images or you can download your own still image (800 x 600) for use as the unit's background from a connected USB thumbdrive.
    • Picture Adjustments: You can adjust the LCD touchscreen's backlight, contrast, black level, brightness, and color.
Note: To prevent the display of video while the vehicle is in motion, the light green wire (within harness) must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, the unit's LCD touchscreen will simply display a blue screen and "Parking Off". While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu screens/settings, source information, metadata, and album artwork; as well as CarPlay & Android Auto.

Front-Panel Controls w/ Variable Color Illumination: In addition to the touchscreen controls, the unit includes frequently used buttons along the bottom edge of the screen. You can adjust the head unit's button illumination, as well as display background color from the following preset colors - Blue, Purple, Sky Blue, Yellow, Green, Amber, Red, Pink, White or Scan (Scans through all preset colors). You can also select a custom "User" color that is adjusted between Red, Green, and Blue (values range: 0-31).

Dimmer: The dimmer function will dim the head unit's display & front-panel illumination automatically when your vehicle's light switch is turned On, if you have the unit's orange/white "Illumination" wire connected to your vehicle's headlamp circuit. You can also choose to dim the display manually. The Kenwood logo and eject button remain the same brightness.

Clock & Date: The digital media receiver offers a 12-hour clock & day/month/year display. The clock is visible from any source or menu screen. With your vehicle's key in the accessory or start position, the head unit will continue to display the LCD background image, clock, and button illumination during "Standby" mode. Pressing and holding the Power/Home button turns the unit off completely.

Remote Control: The Kenwood DMX7704S offers compatibility with factory steering wheel controls (adapter sold separately) and is compatible with Kenwood's IR wireless remote control (sold separately) for added convenience.

    • Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).
    • Optional Remote Control: The optional Kenwood KNA-RCDV331 IR wireless remote control (113RCDV331, sold separately) unit is designed to operate this Kenwood digital media receiver. The wireless remote controller operates off of two supplied "AAA" batteries. The remote operates off of IR transmission so the KNA-RCDV331 must be pointed at the front-panel of the Kenwood head unit within direct line of sight.

    iPhone Integration w/ CarPlay

Apple CarPlay Compatible: Apple CarPlay is the smarter, safer in-vehicle interface to operate your iPhone (iOS 7.1+) with Lightning-connector. Your iPhone must be connected to the Kenwood receiver's "black" USB port (not "grey") via the included USB extension cable and the Lightning-cable that came with your Apple device or Kenwood's Lightning connector-to-USB cable (113KCIP103 sold separately). CarPlay features Siri voice control and is specially designed for driving scenarios. It also works with the Kenwood receiver's touchscreen controls. Use CarPlay to get directions, make phone calls, listen to voice mail, send/ receive messages and select music in a way that keeps you focused on the road ahead.

    • Maps: The power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars.
    • Phone & Messages: You'll be able to make calls, return missed calls, and listen to voicemails through the Kenwood receiver. Siri can also help you do all these things. In addition, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages for you; so you never have to look at your iPhone while driving.
    • Music Library: Access your artists, song, playlists, and iTunes Radio on your iPhone using the Kenwood receiver's touchscreen. Or, just tell Siri what you'd like to listen to. The head unit's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background.
    • Apps: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying music, radio, sports, news, podcasts, & audiobooks. Control them from the head unit's touchscreen just like you would from your iPhone. Current supported apps include (fees may apply):

    • Only one Apple CarPlay device can be connected at a time. Must be connected to the "black" USB port (not "grey" USB port).
    • An Android Auto device and Apple CarPlay device cannot be connected at the same time.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.
    • If you need an additional USB extension cable, use Kenwood's CA-U1EX USB extension cable (113CAU1EX, sold separately). Any other USB extension cable can cause CarPlay to malfunction.

iPod/iPhone Music Playback Only: If you don't desire Apple CarPlay, you can also connect your Lightning-connector Apple iPod/iPhone to the DMX7704S for music playback & control only using  Kenwood's Lightning connector-to-USB cable (113KCIP103 sold separately) or the Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device. You can use either USB port on the radio. The receiver supports playback of stored music and music apps, along with control and charging, plus song/artist information and album art.

    • Head Unit Control: The Kenwood head unit allows you to navigation your iPod/iPhone's music library from its front-panel & touchscreen controls. The head unit offers unique search features like Category Search & Link Search, plus offers basic playback functions like Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Rewind, Previous/Next Track and Repeat/Random of your connected iPod/iPhone. You'll also still be able to control most connected Apple devices from its own touchscreen while connected via USB.
      • Category Search: Category Search allows you to navigate your iPod/iPhone's music library by Playlist, Artists, Album, Song, Genre, Song, Podcast, Audiobook, or Radio. You can then search each of these categories using the head unit's touchscreen slider function (categories will be listed in alphabetical order).
      • Link Search: The head unit offers Link Search, which allows you to play songs related to the currently playing song. Link Search lets the head unit create an album list of the currently playing artist, a song list of the currently playing album, a artist list of the currently playing genre, or a album list of currently playing composer.
    • Song/Artist Info & Album Art: The DMX704S will display your iPod/iPhone's stored music information including Track number, Elapsed playing time, Song/Album title, Artist name, and Album art. The unit will also display song/artist info and album art from select music apps.
    • Battery Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1.5A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

Apple Device Compatibility Chart: The Kenwood DMX7704S is "Made for iPod/iPhone" compatible and supports the following iPod/iPhone model features (as of 4/4/2018):

    • Only one Apple iPod or iPhone can be connected at a time. If you try and connect two Apple devices at the same time, you get the following on-screen message "Only the first connected iPod/iPhone can be used". You'll need to disconnect both devices and reconnect the one you want to listen to.
    • Not compatible with 30-pin Apple devices.
    • Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.

    Android Auto + USB Playback

Android Auto: The Kenwood digital media receiver supports the Android Auto app for Android smartphones running OS Lollipop (5.0 or newer). Your compatible Android smartphone must be connected to the JVC receiver's "black" USB port (not "grey") via the included USB extension cable and the USB cable that came with your smartphone, plus be paired via Bluetooth. If you prefer, you can switch over to a simpler version of the community-based Waze navigation app (version 4.27 or higher).

The USB ports enable playback of a variety of audio (including high resolution files) and video files stored on a compatible USB memory device (see chart below).

    • 13-Band EQ: The User modes (1-4) allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 13-band EQ (62.5Hz, 100Hz, 160Hz, 250Hz, 400Hz, 630Hz, 1kHz, 1.6kHz, 2.5kHz, 4kHz, 6.3kHz, 10kHz, & 16kHz). Each frequency's gain level can be adjusted from -9dB to +9 dB.
    • Drive EQ: The Drive EQ mode helps you hear your music over road noise. It boosts certain frequencies ranges that becomes hard to hear due to road noise.

Music Enhancement: You can restore the sound lost due to audio compression, as well as enhance the sound by virtually manipulating the soundscape.

    • Sound Realizer: When MP3, WMA, or AAC files encoded at a low bit rate (less than 96 kbps, 44.1k, 48kHz) are played, the Realizer feature boosts low frequencies which can be lost during compression. Set to Level 1, Level 1, Level 3, or Off.
    • Supreme: When MP3, WMA, or AAC files encoded at a low bit rate (less than 96 kbps, 44.1k, 48kHz) are played, the Supreme Setting function restores their high frequencies so the sound quality is closer to files encoded at a high bit rate. The processing is optimized for the compression format and the bit rate used. When the Supreme Setting is Off, the unit plays the original sound stored in the audio file.
    • Space Enhancer & Stage EQ: You can set the Space Enhancer to Small, Large, or Off. Each setting value indicates the soundscape level. You can also virtually raise the sound position heard from your speakers; the Stage EQ can be set to High, Middle, Low, or Off.

Are there any tutorial videos I can look at in addition to my master manual to install this deck into my 2014 dodge challenger?
    [ antwan  May 11, 2018 ]

I don't know of any, but I found it to be pretty straightforward when I did it in my Pontiac G6. I installed the Axxess integrated steering wheel control interface and the Onstar interface so it was a little more complicated, but following all the manuals worked for me. Good luck

I've read that you are not able to control the navigation volume when using CarPlay. Has anyone else used CarPlay with navigation that can confirm whether this is an issue or not?

I use carplay every day and have had no issues adjusting navigation volume. My steering wheel controls work perfectly for both media (songs, radio etc) volume and navigation volume.

What do the 39" USB extension cables ends look like? Standard USB A? When connected to these USBs, does it charge the phone and at what amp if so? 1.0, 2.0?? Is there a way to mount those in a nice way or should I get the mountable usb add-on cables?
    [ Samuel  Apr 24, 2018 ]

The cord ends in a standard USB-A female end. Fast charging works on my Pixel 2, which means the output is either 2 or 2.1 amps. I ran the cable between the plastic and the carpet on my center console on the driver and passenger side. Very unintruisive. With Android Auto, I plug in my phone, then use the Kenwood for maps, calls, music,.. Etc.
    [ BRANDON  May 02, 2018 ]
It's basically an extension, so you can plug the cable that came with you phone in. I have a Note 8, and although it's not Quick Charge 2.0, it does charge my Note 8 pretty fast. I have my wires just off to the side.

i purchased the installation kit with the Data Link Maestro that is supposed to work with my ford sync. But none of the car gauges or other options that are on the radio screen work. Could something Possibly NOT be connected?

The Maestro Module needs to be set up for full functionality. You have to go to the iData Link website and put in all of your information and upload it to the Maestro Device.
    [ TROY  Apr 10, 2018 ]
You might have to program it.
    [ Jason  Apr 10, 2018 ]
The idatalink module plugs into the port on the back of the kenwood, and should also have a harness that taps into the ODB-II port. That harness is where it will read vehicle diagnostics. That being said I am not sure beyond that, I purchased a PAC interface and that doesn't have those options.
    [ James  Apr 10, 2018 ]
If you have the OBDII cable plugged in, some of the cables.aren't plugged in or hooked up incorrectly. I had' an adapter that wasn't needed that was attached to the harness and it prevented me from connecting the needed cable.

Not sure, I run a Android S5. Unfortunately that head unit seems to have issues with it, I used an Alpine Android auto connect unit this weekend and it performed much better
    [ dennis  Mar 31, 2018 ]
If Android auto runs on the Motorola, then yes
    [ JEFF  Mar 28, 2018 ]
Yes, as long as your phone is running at least Android 5
    [ Jay  Mar 28, 2018 ]
    [ Brian  Mar 27, 2018 ]
    Most likely.
    [ Morgan  Mar 27, 2018 ]
I don't see why not. As long as your phone is Android auto compatible. And you have an adapter to USB. you should be fine.

Not that I know of. There's no option on the Kenwood to do that, at least not one I'm aware of! That would be cool. I had screen mirroring on my previous unit (Chinese) but the screen would not interact, it was strictly a video feed from the phone.

I believe there are 2 ways you can have Sirius XM on the DMX, at least in my 2013 Silverado. You can add an XM tuner to it to get Sirius XM or if you car already has Sirius XM it can use it programming the iDataLink Maestro to have it. I am using my trucks existing Sirius XM tuner with the iDataLink. I did not have to do anything with my subscription. Once installed the Sirius XM worked just fine. If you look through the audio sources you will notice that one is labeled Sirius XM and the other is just Satellite Radio. The Sirius XM source would be if you add a Sirius XM tuner, the Satellite Radio is the one that works with my trucks existing Sirius XM thru the iDataLink. Hope this helps.
    [ BrierPatch  Jan 14, 2018 ]
In my truck the existing Sirius antenna wouldn't work on the aftermarket unit. Had to buy a Sirius antenna and it worked fine after that. Sirius will transfer your subscription to the new unit free.

It takes about 7-10 seconds, it isnt too bad, but everything about the radio otherwise makes this a minor point.

I haven't timed it but it this isn't a slow receiver, it gets going at a decent speed. My previous receiver took forever compared to this. I use this receiver to link to my iPhone via carplay, and carplay takes under a minute to get going. I love this receiver, my only complaint is that Kenwood could update how their interface looks. If you like the graphics, you'll love this receiver.

do I have to use android auto or can I simply connect via Bluetooth and use my phone to control apps like google maps and spotify? seems silly to use an app to control other apps
    [ jordan  Dec 27, 2017 ]

YOu can do it both ways. Use your phone while connected to control apps or you can just click on that particular app in the radio itself
    [ Erick  Dec 28, 2017 ]
No, you cannot control the applications via Bluetooth. Android Auto is there to simplify the application interfaces for better/safer use while driving. There is supposedly a version of Android Auto coming that will leverage Wi-Fi, but it is not coming in the immediate future.

On DMX 7704s has 2 mini jack inputs one is for bluetooth mic can the other marked AV-in can this be used for axxess steering wheel control or do you still need to wire it in 2017 Hyundia Tucson ?
    [ thomas  Nov 27, 2017 ]

Those inputs cannot be used for the steering wheel radio controls. There is an interface needed to make translate from the Hyundai to Kenwood languages and that interface will connect to the Blue/yellow wire on the Kenwood's harness. We have advisors that can help you get all the installation gear needed to install this receiver into our Tuscon. You can reach one on 1-800-324-9695 My Bio:

    [ Rich  Nov 21, 2017 ]
Yes it has to be connected via the USB connection coming from the unit, my installer hid my USB connection so it's not that visible.
    [ Richard  Nov 20, 2017 ]
Yes. Must be connected by usb. Android Auto on bluetooth only doesn't exist as of yet for an aftermarket headunit as far as I know.
    [ Gary  Nov 20, 2017 ]
I assume it's the same as iPhone. You have to be tethered via USB.
    [ William  Nov 20, 2017 ]
Yes.. in order to use Android Auto.. you must connect your phone thru the usb cable. Adroid Auto wont work via Bluetooth.
    [ Jose  Nov 20, 2017 ]
To use Android Auto your phone does have to be plugged in. You can use Google maps and Google play over Bluetooth but the map won't be displayed on screen, only the audio will be played over the speakers.

You can use a USB flash drive to play music.
    [ Craig  Sep 20, 2017 ]
No "memory card" slot per se, but it has two USB cables in rear that you could easily hook up a memory stick to and even leave permanently connected if desired. Cables tout to wherever you want them (glove box, floorboard, etc).

    Just a usb drive

I don't think so, it has to be hooked to an Android to do Google maps or I phone to do iOS but the phone could be hooked to a cars hotspot and the phone hooked to the stereo
    [ JEFF  Sep 09, 2017 ]
No. There is no WiFi connection, and no internet over Bluetooth. It relies on your phone (Android Auto or Apple CarPlay) as the source for mapping and media. USB is the other source. No WiFi.
    [ Xirtic  Sep 09, 2017 ]
The way it works is when you pair via bluetooth/ wifi your phone to the radio the radio runs those apps from your phone . So you have to have those app in your phone already for it to work.
    [ Erick  Sep 09, 2017 ]
There are no smarts in this receiver to do Google maps or Spotify by itself. That functionality is done through your phone via Android Auto or Apple Carplay.

Yes it does (not sure about S8). I have a Galaxy S7 and it works fine. Make sure you have a good quality micro-usb cable or it won't work. You'll also need to enable Developer Options and then USB debugging (google it).

I have had no issues using it with my S7 edge. Android auto starts up the moment I plug in the usb. And if you don't want to use the USB, it plays music and will allow you to use the phone with just a bluetooth connection. It is an amazing radio with many options!

Needs the cable, Pioneer has come out with one that does this over BT
    [ JEFF  Jul 31, 2017 ]
Ok it works eighter way. But when you need to connect the car play you need tongo to your phone settings to change. It. I got an iphone sonin the iphone when you press the car play it ask for the type of connection if bluetooth or usb only. If u got an android the phone needs to be connected via bluetooth easier setup and if you going to use it connected then you sellect the usb like the iphone. Advantage of usb is that the phone charges at the same time its connected to the radio. If you got a different type of phone check the manual it has a list of phones it works with.

Is it possible to have USB playback during Carplay use?
    [ Steven  Jun 16, 2017 ]
    3 answers
Yes. While playing music from a USB, I was able to start Android Auto (and I assume CarPlay) and navigate or see my AA home screen. I'm not sure if it would work with voice commands without stopping USB playback.
    [ Mark  Jun 17, 2017 ]
If CarPlay is treated the same as Android Auto, then I would say yes. I do this regularly.
    [ Xirtic  Jun 16, 2017 ]
Apple CarPlay basically mimics your phone on the screen. It has to be tethered to use. When connected you can play from your music or select apps like Pandora, Spotify, and Amazon music. Radio can play music off a USB memory device but that would not be using CarPlay.

I have not been able to get WAZE to work on my Galaxy S6 and the Kenwood. Supposedly, the way to do it is to change the default mapping app. But for me, it's greyed out, so I can't. It might be something specific with the phone. I'm getting a new phone is a couple weeks, so haven't been too worried about that yet. Otherwise. Android Auto is working very well for me.
    [ CHRIS  May 20, 2017 ]
Hi. I am in the Waze beta program for Android Auto. The beta has yet to be officially released (in the US anyway) but everything I read/interpret in the forum indicates it's not too far away. I recently installed this same head unit, and based on what I have read Waze/AA combination should work. Obviously need to get the Waze beta for AA to confirm. I'm confident it will as I suspect AA and related configurations are driven from the smartphone. Kenwood does have a site for firmware upgrades (none for our unit as it's very new) so if the head unit needed an update I'm sure Kenwood would offer a firmware upgrade.

I'm sorry for the long delay. I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: There is no separate Navigation module. The navigation is done through the Apple Carplay or Android Auto features of your cell phone. This allows you to use the maps from your phone and the GPS antenna helps boost the signal for navigation. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Thanks for your question. Navigation is not included but is an optional accessory. The antenna is included to help with connecting a navigation module. Hope this helps.
