"Excelon" might not be part of your everyday vocabulary, but the word means a lot to the people at Kenwood. It represents a higher standard, one which gets fulfilled with the Kenwood Excelon DNX694S navigation receiver. In addition to a beautiful 6.8" display and killer phone integration, it offers extras like a 2-year warranty, high-voltage preamp outputs, dual detachable USB inputs, and top-notch audio components for truly immersive sound.
Kenwood designed the DNX694S to work seamlessly with both Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™. No matter what phone you (or your passengers) prefer, you can access the apps you need without getting distracted from the matter at hand — driving your vehicle. The receiver gives you fingertip or voice control of your apps, and its resistive touchscreen display offers plenty of real estate for accessing your sources and other important info — you can even customize the source button locations for easier access. You also get control of select music apps (like Pandora and Spotify) through the receiver via a wireless Bluetooth connection for most Android devices.
The Kenwood KCA-IP103 cable offers a durable and car-ready Lightning-to-USB connection for your iPhone.
If you're driving with a passenger, the DNX694S can pair with up to two phones at once. You'll be able to designate one phone as the priority but be able to switch between the two with ease, as well as have access to both phonebooks.
The DNX694S supplies Garmin maps of the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands. You'll also get reliable routing with spoken street names at turns, lane assistance, and realistic views of complicated intersections. Kenwood's interface also provides more opportunities for split-screen control, so you can still follow the maps as the stereo shows you what's playing or who's calling.
You'll get a free 2-year subscription to INRIX traffic service, which provides quick updates on congestion along your route. You'll need to have your smartphone with the app on it connected to the receiver to take advantage of these traffic updates. INRIX updates require an in-app purchase after the 2-year subscription ends.
The DNX694S also features an HD Radio™ tuner. You'll enjoy much-improved AM/FM sound quality when you're tuned into a local participating station, and there's no subscription required — just tune it in like a regular radio station.
This receiver will play all your CDs and DVDs, including discs loaded with music files — including high-resolution lossless FLAC and WAV files — while an A/V input offers connection for more audio/video sources. A pair of detachable USB inputs let you add audio from an iPod or flash drive. You also get a microSD card slot for playing digital music files and making map updates.
Why struggle with stations fading away as you travel? You can hook up a SiriusXM satellite radio tuner (not included) to this receiver and access the wide variety of entertainment, sports, news, and commercial-free music satellite radio provides — and your favorite stations are always there. The DNX694S works with TuneMix, SportsFlash, and other new SiriusXM features which give you even more customizable options for listening the way you want.
Kenwood equipped this Excelon receiver with custom-made or carefully curated sonic components— including three sets of gold-plated 5-volt preamp outputs — to deliver peak levels of audio performance. Kenwood's Drive EQ+ technology boosts certain frequencies that are easily masked by wind and tires rolling on asphalt. It also enhances your music's bottom end as your speed increases, so you can really feel those tunes as you drive. You can also craft the sound to your ears' content with a 13-band equalizer and other soundshaping tools at your disposal.
This Kenwood is capable of connecting two different cameras, so you can see more when you're getting in and out of tight spots. If you've got a pair of rear-view cameras, you can reverse the image of the one up front to get a more precise picture. The receiver also features a dedicated input for Kenwood's DRV-N520 Drive Recorder so you can capture your travels in high definition.
In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.
The DNX694S offers compatibility you won't find in many other aftermarket radios, thanks to the iDatalink Maestro module (not included). The module lets you keep factory features in your Chrysler, Fiat, Ford, GM, Honda, Toyota, or VW vehicle that you'd otherwise lose when you install a new radio. You'll also be able to check out expanded functionality on the Kenwood's screen, including gauges, climate controls, a distance sensor, and tire pressure and temperature monitors. It'll even integrate your stealth K40 radar detector into the stereo's display, so you can see and hear about incoming threats (available soon). With select rear-view cameras, you'll even get parking guide lines that curve with the motion of your steering wheel.
Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our articles about Bluetooth profiles.
iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.
Great for the price.

Average Customer Review(s):
Easy to install, tons of functions, works fine with backup cam and sirius radio
Would give 5stars but they still don't have a clock on every screen. And if you put two trip meters there should be a way to clear them separately (silly you can only clear everything need a up to fix that) check your fit before cutting anything. This fit in 06 Yukon without any modifications..
Pros: Great looking, easy to use plenty of options.
Cons: No clock when on navigation screen. With two trip meters you should be able to zero them one at a time.. ( one for every gas up and one for your entire trip)
Radio works great, has all the right features if your looking to upgrade from an older stock system.
Thi is the most obvious 5 starred product I can remember every reviewing. Just a truly great receiver and GPS unit. Wow what an upgrade. This unit has it all. I've fiddled with most of the options and it's pretty amazing how well it works. You can tailor the sound to your liking in a number of ways. They work, it's fun. Some menus are a little complex and finding what you did before sometimes seems impossible, but that's the learning curve in action. One little bit of info that might help someone else. I rely on the steering wheel controls. Once installed with the ASWC-1 I could not get the presets to cycle through. I called Crutchfield and was told it was not possible because the Kenwood does not recognize the preset command from the ASWC-1. As this was key for my use, I removed the unit, and arranged for a return. I packed the unit up, and even stuck the label on the box. But I thought I should google this a little. I found the simple solution out there on the inter webs. Just set seek mode to Auto2 and it works fine. So I had to install the unit twice, but I find it fun, so not a big issue.
Pros: Sound is fantastic. HD Radio is cool and works. GPS integration with HU . Compass and upcoming street are cool features Front view camera as well as rear view. Wide variety of connection options including Android Auto. Micro SD for music library.
Cons: No built-in Mic. Garmin map updates are expensive. No Volume knob No Mute, just Attenuation
Great product with High Viz. easy to install and sounds great.
Pros: Easy install and great sound
Cons: Little hard to understand install instructions
Greta piece of kit!! Integrated Garmin Nav, Spotify,Pandora, Apple CarPlay etc. You will not be disappointed with this Nav Radio
Pros: Easy install User friendly Sounds great 3 preamp outputs
Excellent radio iam so glad to buy it
Pros: Good nav audio and everything
The 694S has a lot of features, which is a plus. But it also has correspondingly complex menu which takes some time to learn.
Pros: Lots of features. Two USB ports. Connectors for multiple cameras or a rear DVD Player. A some what customize-able menu display.
Cons: The menu is overly complex with a lot of smaller icon which can be distracting to use when driving. A non glare (matte) screen option would be nice.
This thing right out of the box blew me away. It has so many different features. You can see many different rear time stats right on the screen. Full or 1/2 screen navigation. I coupled it to an am and subs and it rocks out the corolla.
Pros: Ease of use, so many controls, screen looks great, I could go on and on and on. There is not 1 feature I don't like.
Cons: Only allows for 2 phones to be connected for use with the phone. We have multiple drivers in our family and having to unconnected a device to the system is somewhat of a pain. That's all I got.
08/27/2018 (Day one) - Called the Crutchfield 844 number and spoke promptly with Curtis. Great to be on the phone with. Nice thing is they can pass info on systems right to your screen so you can both review, very helpful. Ordered the Kenwood Excelon DNX694S, wiring harness and dash cam. Received my email right after phone confirmation. Regular shipping (free) one week. I live in AZ. NEXT UPDATE: *** Waiting to install and test, with pictures ***
Pros: Great service and vast variety of receivers of which you can filter down to your top five.
Cons: Nope. Nothing yet.
Can't say I'm an audio expert, but dang, this unit sounds "really" good. I have the naviagation system I wanted plus the ability to monitor my trucks gagues and the great sound is like the cherry on top.
Pros: Has all the features I was hoping for. The instructions for removing the factory system were great.
Cons: Not being very tech savvy I found no instructions for the install and my call to Crutchfield didn't help. I had to hire someone for the install to get done on time for a trip. I repeat; not very tech savvy. They didn't break it down for me Barney style.
Nice radio easy to instal after using all the necessary parts that Crutchfield sent me along with the Radio i was able to make it fit and work with my 2015 Chrysler 200 I'm now able to control the car climate control feature right from the Radio's screen. also other nice features like Tire pressure and other goodies are now available just by touching the Radio's screen.
Pros: i highly recommend this Radio i have always trust Kenwwood Brand for my Cars
Great unit easy to see display. Great features
Pros: Xm ready great display easy to use
Cons: No remote included so you have to buy it
Fits very nice. Sounds very good, and everything works perfectly. Crutchfield's ready harness simplifies installation.
Cons: I would find usefull a button to mute audio input, with reciver on. for example, one touch to mute music while GPS still on.
I had to replace my original Jeep Unit which went haywire. After doing a lot of research the Kenwood Excelon DNX694S was the one for us. I have an android and my wife has an apple. It works great with both. Its a little of a learning curve since it has so much cool stuff but so far I love it. Add to it Crutchfield putting together the harness and it is a real winner.
Pros: Once you learn where everything is it is Easy to use and works well. Great unit for the money and am very happy with its performance to date.
Cons: Wish all my apps from my android were displayed when android play is connected but it is ok. Everything else is good
I replaced the stock system in my RAM 2500 all at once with this head unit, Kicker 6.5 components in the doors, 6x9 Kickers in the rear doors along with a JL Audio Ram stealth box sub and XD700/5v2 to power it all. The Kenwood is an awesome unit. Honestly, I've always used Alpine and wish they had a comparable head, but they didn't. I was skeptical on switching to Kenwood, but it really is a great sounding stereo with plenty of control and EQ to tweak it until you find the sweet spot. It has some DSP options to simulate a larger listening area or brighten the sound of digital music which are probably good, but I don't really use it. Time correction and delay are great. Didn't use nav yet. Again, I really wanted an Alpine because I've always been happy with them and never had a bad one in over 20 years, and being stubborn it was hard to get this, but I'm glad I did. Very happy. Also, Crutchfield is always professional. The connectors, dash kit and all the stuff they throw in really make it easy.
Pros: Great sound, Lots of EQ options.
This HU is the bomb! It does everything and then some... KP is the sales rep. that helped me pick it out for my 2008 Tundra. Install looks professional and was easy! I recommend paying for Crutchfield's harness wiring service. After that it was Plug and play... I literally didn't have to cut any wires or make any modifications to my vehicle. That is worth it's weight in Gold! I highly recommend this radio and Crutchfield!
Cons: Wish I had picked one with a slightly larger screen, but that's purely preference and something I can definitely live with...
I got this to replace my 4Runners "Entune" system. That system was crap, this one is awesome and I finally have CarPlay. I'm still learning all the features of this stereo and it just keeps getting better.
Pros: -Garmin nav -Full tunablity -System integration
Cons: None yet
Great product for a great price. Love my new stereo
Pros: Great stereo for a great price
I paired the DNX694S with a set of Rockford Fosgate R168 in a 2013 Ford Mustang. The sounds is great and using the audio adjustments I was able to tweak the HPF on the rears to better isolate the lows. In short, kind of using the rear speakers as a sub (not thumping hard but enough for me for now). My only (BIG) disappoint is not being able to shuffle all songs on a USB drive when the songs are in different folders. The HU will only shuffle songs in a chosen folder. Even the least expensive music players have the ability to shuffle on songs on a single device regardless of the fold they reside in. I would think this could be easily fixed/changed via a firmware update. I would not of purchased this HU knowing the USB song shuffle limitation and therefore the 3 star review. In short, if you listen to music on a USB drive, have music in multiple folders (like most folks) and want to shuffle all songs on the USB drive then do NOT buy this head unit.
Pros: Sounds Great; Many settings; Garmin GPS
Cons: USB song shuffle folder limitation
This unit is a massive upgrade over the factory radio in my wife's 2012 Honda Civic LX. Everything is quite responsive, the sound quality is great, and the unit has done wonders on refreshing the interior. She loves the new receiver, especially having GPS and Bluetooth in the car now.
The product is good and works as designed what is more impressive is Crutchfield's technical support . They were/are professional, patience and courteous . A class act group!
Love this product
DNX694S works great. GPS receiver located inside dash and picks up signal very well.
Pros: Easy installation
Cons: Dash kit has unit inset a bit and would have looked better with a flush mount
Awesome unit. I got all the features I wanted. Would highly recommend.
Very easy install All the features work great highly recommend
This unit worked well to replace the 4" Sync system in a 2018 F250. I wasn't expecting much volume without an amp, but it is louder than expected. The GPS warning screen every time you power up is irritating, and apparently there is no way to prevent it or bypass it.
Pros: I don't think there are any features it does not have, and it sounds good.
Cons: GPS warning screen that nags you with the same message every time you turn it on.
Excellent head unit. Installed about a week ago in 11 Accord. Back up camera, Sirus antenna and steering wheel controls. Unit functions great as all Kenwoods do. This is the 4th Kenwood double din I have installed in my vehicles and am true to the brand! The only negative I can mention is the bottoms are very hard to the touch would prefer a softer feel or even better a VOLUME KNOB! Dash kit could provide a little bit more clearance around right and left edges. Great unit for the price and built in Garmin navigation.
Pros: Ease of use. Appearance. Crystal clear backup camera (purchased separately). Customizable home screen.
Cons: Give me back my volume knob!
This is so much better than the original Nav system in my 2008 Acadia. Took longer than expected to install but well worth the time. The Crutchfield ReadyHarness made it so much easier. Worth the few extra dollars for sure.
Pros: Chock full of features and replaced all of my factory features.
Cons: No big ones. Took lots of time to deal with the cable/wiring in the small space the Acadia has for the system.
Love it. Everything works great.
Tons of features, integrated with iDatalink Maestro RR and Sirius SVC300 easily in 2011 F-150. Kept all steering wheel buttons. Trim plate looks like it was from the factory. Very pleased.. Excellent tech support as well. Thank you.
Pros: Fits perfectly with suggested trim plate A lot more features than I had, love the ODB connection for gauges
Cons: Supplied instructions could be a little better with Maestro, but tech support filled in the gaps
I've had this for about 3 weeks, HU was very easy to install and setup. Screen does have a little flex to it when using on screen buttons at first i thought it had a screen protector i forgot to take off. Bass sounds a little off, almost as if it needs an amp to get good bass. One thing i have noticed you cannot read text messages over bluetooth like my factory pioneer could. Home screen was easy to setup with the inputs i use most.
Pros: -very easy to install and setup. -Sounds good with modifications -Home screen looks great -I really liked the fact of no knobs
Cons: -The screen has a little flex to it. -Head unit cannot display text messages using bluetooth
It was a great experience working with the guys at Crutchfield! They were very supportive and responsive throughout the entire pre-purchase to installation completion process. I especially appreciated the rapid cross-shipment of a radio upgrade that was more suitable for my application. The Kenwood Excelon DNX694S is a great unit and I got it at a big discount through Crutchfield. With the custom Metra trim kit is is the perfect fit for my 2010 Mercedes GL450. It has ALL the features I was looking for in a head unit upgrade, including HD Radio, SiriusXM support, Garmin Nav with real-time Traffic (through the Kenwood Inrix traffic App) + retaining full steering wheel control functions; not to mention the touch screen which is something that is not seen in a mercedes stock unit. Crutchfield presented me with a complete package with everything I needed to have successful installation. Turned out vey well, see attached. Thanks Crutchfield!
Pros: Very intuitive website, knowledgeable staff, one-stop shopping experience, perfect recommendation.
Awesome performance for good price
Cons: No mute button
This is a great unit! Installed it on 2017 Camry Hybrid SE. Used the iDatalink Maestro and T02 Harness and both works seamlessly. Also added the Kenwood DRV-N520 Dash Cam, SiriusXM SXV300V1, Kicker 433CSS674 6-3/4" Component System.
Pros: Lots of features and love the CarPlay. Love that your can integrate the camera onto the unit.
Cons: Slow Boot-up but nothing major.
Nice head unit. Great features. Easy install in 2007 Chevy Silverado.
THE DNX694S is awesome. Has a lot of function and rite on spot.
Pros: Looks great and has so many functions
I like the head unit for the most part, but it could be a bit more user friendly. There needs to be a hard key for ejecting CDs and DVDs. It does have quite a bit of glare on the screen when the sun hits it. It has a good sound and the features are nice.
This radio is awesome, everything works perfect from navigation to car play. Was going to replace factory speakers but this radio is so good you can dial it in and makes the factory speakers sound great. And with the Maestro installed with it, it ads so much more as in tire pressure and temp with all kinds of extra gauges to monitor the car. Fit perfect in a 2016 Camry.
Cons: Little slow to boot up but can live with it
Great radio and great support. I couldn't be happier with this purchase.
Pros: easy to install, decent price, hands free is awesome while driving.
Cons: haven't found one yet
An excellent option but has extra things you probably don't need if you have an iPhone such as navigation.
Pros: The iPhone link is awesome, the HD radio tuner really opens up many more listening options
Cons: The installation kit was plastic including the mounts and not that sturdy. I reused the metal factory mounts which left the radio about a 1/4" inset , the bezel didn't fit correctly. That was in a 2010 Toyota Highlander. Way more features than I'll ever use.
Looks great! And greatly improved factory stereo, almost makes upgrading the speakers pointless, for now. Fairly easy navigation but I advise playing with it and getting comfortable with it before driving with it. If bright lights fatigue you while driving at night be sure to realize you can dim it by hitting the ATT button on any screen. I did not find this setting and had it on max so it was a pain to find while driving so I was forced to pull over. DVD skip/play pause are only excessable by double tapping the button of the screen. Garmin is a great feature, but if you plan to detour from it's route, use the map on your phone and the provided USB port or else it will just keep directing you to return to the original route. Other than that it is really simple to use, looks and sounds fantastic!
Pros: -look and ease of use, minus stated above -Quick and easy install -greatly improved stock sound system on a 2012 Honda Accord LX Sedan (5 speaker no pre amp) -All apps are movable -provided mic cable is crazy long and proved great clarity, even when tucked in the visor.
Cons: -DVD play/pause and screen brightness hard to find at first. -Screen can get greatly washed out in direct bright light (as everyone else says)
radio works great but the steering wheel adapter doesn't work at all
I have bought Kenwood Excelon products before and they are awesome.
Awesome head unit. Purchased with the Maestro harness and link for my Silverado. There is even a screen with engine gauges!
Cons: Tiny volume buttons. Have to add steering wheel controls for easier use.
So far this thing is awesome. I have it installed in a Jeep Wrangler.
Great unit, very intuiative. Lots of features and options in terms of sound shaping. The Garmin GPS was a decision maker for me. I would highly recommend this product!
After only a week of use I can honestly say I'm extremely happy with this receiver. It looks great, sounds great and is very easy to navigate on the touchscreen. The large icons are definitely a plus when you're driving. Installing this unit in my 2000 F250 was a modified fit but the instructions with the metra mounting kit was easy to understand and it fits perfectly.
Pros: Great sound, easy to use. Apple CarPlay is one of many features I love having in this unit.
Cons: I don't like waiting for it to boot up. Screen washes out in bright sunlight but so does every other brand. Both of these are minor complaints.
It's only been in the truck a week but a definite upgrade from stock. Love it
Unit functions well. Does not fit a 2000 Ford F250 as stated by Crutchfield when using the supplied Metra mount. Also beware of owning more than one Kenwood / Garmin unit and expecting to use their partnered Inrix traffic feature. Kenwood / Garmin / Inrix cripples the ability to use more than one unit on a single smart phone which is also required to use the traffic feature. Poor planning / homework on their parts and they just finger point at each other. Also Inrix support is next to non-existent.
Everything appears to work as advertised... Tech Support is Great...
Outstanding unit. Great sound with amazing features. A great choice.
Pros: Easy to install. Easy to configure. Fabulous sound.
Cons: Hard to read in bright light.
Great product easy install waiting for speakers also Kenwood good sound with factory should be even better with speaker upgrade
Nice unit, Great sound, all the features you need good for the money
Installed this unit in my wife's 2008 Mercury Mountaineer. Looks great and she's loving all the new features she didn't have with the OEM radio. The unit immediately recognized her iPhone and she is thrilled. Garmin navigation, Carplay and Siri support is a plus. Crutchfield support has been A+ when I called with questions.
Pros: Touch screen, nav, Carplay
Cons: Boot time at startup by not much of a con
Very happy with the performance. It has more features than I will ever use. Easy installation. I had a small issue with the steering wheel control module, but a quick call to the manufacturer fixed that.
Pros: Great features. This system updated an older pick up with features you would find in a new one.
Cons: The instructions were a little vague.
Perfect upgrade I was looking for. GPS system is great!
Great products and great service
So glad I got this head unit. The sound is terrific in my car, and I like that I have both backup camera and navigation as well. The Bluetooth works seamlessly with my Samsung phone as well.
Awesome deck and easier navigation vs the 693 I had originally purchased. Plus it has a few more usable bells.
The key to this whole experience is the installation kit and detailed instructions with them. Easy to follow, very detailed, and made me look like a pro. It looks like it came with the truck, and works so much better than the stock radio. GPS is easy to use, and I am still learning about all the other features. I would recommend this to anyone. get the installation kit offered, it makes the whole process as easy as following simple instructions and matching up the wiring.
Pros: GPS, idata interface, ease of installation, sound.
Cons: Can't think of any............
Awesome head unit, gps is way better than my Old garmin. The radio part is great too. Only part I wish would happen but not a deal breaker. When it's in split screen mode it takes away your speed. I like this part cause I have giant wheels and it affects my speedo. So I use this as a backup. This Kenwood is great anyway.
Pros: GPS, radio, idatalink, SD card for music and upgrading gps
Cons: Loose some viewing options in split screen
Easy installation, product came with all necessary instructions. Still learning how to use all features, but works great and has excellent sound quality. Screen is easy to see and the navigation system works very well. Another great Kenwood product.
Pros: Easy to install, feature rich, great quality
Cons: None so far
After reading several reviews I settled on buying this one. I couldn't be more pleased. This is exactly what I have been looking for.
I picked this stereo up to replace the factory no-frills stereo in my car. But unlike previous Kenwood stereos, this one has proven to be an embarrassment. On the plus side, the sound is as good as you expect from Kenwood. The system is pretty responsive and quick. However, the warts quickly showed themselves. In iPod mode, it has a bad habit of randomly failing to update album art between songs. I also found that it often failed to load all of the playlists. Unlike previous models that pulled the playlist on demand, this one attempts to load them at startup. Sometimes it fails, and when you tap a playlist it will just give you a popup that says "No contents". If you only use CarPlay, you'll be fine though. I couldn't get bluetooth Pandora to work at all, either. If a USB device is plugged in, it will only try USB in Pandora mode. But even after unplugging the device, it will just leave "No device connected" or some such on the screen indefinitely. There are no options to change sources. Pure Bluetooth mode works, at least, and allows source changes. After a few rounds with tech support over this, they asked me to mail the radio in for repairs. The repair shop just did factory initialization and sent it back. This fixed nothing. They took a second RMA, but this time UPS dropped the ball (second time this year). I don't know where they delivered it, but it's not at my house. So with only my experience so far to go on, I'll leav
Pros: Good sound Responsive controls Kenwood tech support is quick to respond
Cons: Glitches and bugs
No only was the customer service one of the best, but the fit of the DNX694S in my car was so neat that a friend of mine whom I invited to check out the system said it looked as good as factory. The sound is absolutely stunning. I don't usually drive with my stereo on (i like to hear the rumble of my exhaust) but this system sounds so smooth that I just had to take a cruise today and listen to it. Beautiful. Thanks for helping me choose such a great sounding system.
Nice interface. Easy to navigate from radio to navigation to music apps. Haven't tested the DVD playback or some of the other features. When connecting blue tooth, you must select the call and media selection on the radio for the app to appear on the display. Unlike other Blue tooth connections where you need to check those boxes on your phone or device, with this radio the boxes must be checked on the Blue tooth setting of the radio as well. Once checked, I believe they stay selected when you reconnect.
Best customer service ever! From the purchase all the way through the install. Top notch. Will never buy from any other place.
Installed this into a 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I'm pretty handy and have a good selection of shop tools. I'm comfortable with working in the dash - however if I didn't have the Crutchfield support I"m not sure I would of got through this install. I purchased the posi harness wiring connectors and they were awesome to use. I'd do that again on any audio I add, boat or car. I also called the Crutchfield support line about 10 times and each time the treated me very nice and worked with me as long as it took. I found the instructions on the Idatalink products to be very vague and difficult to understand. Now that I'm done they make more sense but not good for a rookie. Their support was not as good so I always called Crutchfield. The Idatalink harness and steering wheel control do not allow for use of the factory mic which was disappointing - otherwise the ability to assign tasks to the steering wheel controls was awesome. I was impressed with touch screen on the Excelon, at first it was a major concern until I turned it on. The sound, as others have mentioned, is amazing and powerful. You can really set that sound system up based on your vehicle. Having on board nav is really nice - I like the Garmin interface - however my son, who uses this vehicle prefers to use his Apple Car Play and loves that. We also ran one of the USB connectors up to the center arm rest and connected to the factory installed USB by purchasing an adaptor. Overalll great product.
Nice clean factory look with replacement dash panel for 2003 Dodge Ram to go from single DIN to double. Like the integrated Garmin GPS and video display for front and rear cameras. Enabled me to get rid of the suction cup GPS on my dash and additional rearview monitor for an aftermarket back-up camera. Couple of minor gripes: It takes about 10 seconds to boot up. Good news is that the backup camera will display immediately, even while it's still booting so you don't have to wait to start moving. Also, to get real-time traffic updates, you install a phone app (unlike stand-alone Garmin models). That in itself wouldn't be a big deal, except Kenwood has written the app so that you must open it and connect to the stereo each time you get in the vehicle. That's an annoying feature and hopefully they will update it to allow users to select automatic connection when the bluetooth connection is active with a paired phone. Wish there was a dedicated steering wheel control for it. I'm struggling with a buggy universal one right now. That won't be an issue for most people, but my truck is 15 years old and didn't come with steering wheel control buttons for the stereo. Now that I've got them in another vehicle, I wonder how I lived without them.
Pros: nice integrated GPS and video display good sound quality
Cons: Slow boot up annoying traffic app
Great product great sound. smaller than my original head unit, disappointed about that. 2014 Toyota tundra.
Pros: everything else
Cons: smaller size, and buttons
This head unit far exceeds my expectations. The touch screen functions are silky smooth, transitions from application to application are quick, and Apply Car Play is the best thing since subwoofers.
Pros: Speed, phone audio improved significantly, dimmable screen, Apple Play,
Cons: Took 7 hours to install...
It's impossible to connect live traffic update on iPhone or Android devices
Pros: Other than below is acceptable
Cons: Can't connect live traffic update
Installed in a 2016 F150 XLT where, combined with a PAC dash kit, replaced the base stereo and factory 4.2" screen. Good riddance to both. I initially ordered the DNX573S but returned it after some elevated floor noise when an iPhone was connected. Even though I later discovered the problem was related to a loose factory ground terminal, it turned out to be a fortuitous lapse on the Ford assembly line at that I ended up with this unit. What I like: Excellent sound quality. - Even my non music appreciating wife was instantly awed by the crispness and sound stage. I can finally hear shortcomings in the studio recording, including microphone hum and line noise. An embarrassment of features - CarPlay, two USB ports, etc. etc. One can spend a long time adjusting settings to get the sound just right. Start up - I haven't timed it, but it's far quicker to boot up and the old Pioneer AVIC in a previous car. It also starts in less time than the OEM stereo in our Volvo. Crutchfield - Can't say enough good things about them. The bad: Price - Approaching $1000 seems a bit much. The rebate helps and the price will drop once 2018 models are released. Garmin - I haven't played around with it much, but the maps seems less developed than a stand alone Garmin with the same maps. Noise - Although 5V preouts can be a good thing, any noise you had before will be more noticeable. This isn't a fault of the unit, itse
Pros: Awesome sound quality Feature rich Warp speed start up Crutchfield service
Cons: Price Garmin GPS not as good as stand alone unit 5V preout could potentially find hidden noise
If i could give it more STARS I would. The new Dnx694s is the ultimate user experience with fully custimizable controls and top of the line sound. Purchasing from Crutchfield was easy and I knew up front everything that I would need for my installation there was no surprises. Crutchfield customer service and technical support is world class. There is no better option when you want to purchase car audio or home electronics. Thank you Kenwood and thank you Crutchfield.
Pros: Amazing in everyway
So far so good. Really enjoying the HU. Went from the Pioneer AVH-491 seems to be a big improvement. I thing I've noticed that the power up messages that everyone complains about with Kenwood goes away after 10 seconds. Sound quality sounds great. Bluetooth works well. GPS nice. Haven't messed with Android yet. Only problem I'm having is with the backup camera. It seems to Only work when it wants to. Not sure if it's the HU or camera still trying to figure out.
Pros: Startup messages goes away after 10 seconds. Sound great. Bluetooth and GPS works nice.
Cons: Screen is hard to see in direct sunlight. Having problems with camera.

Garmin Navigation: With built-in Garmin & HERE navigation software and map data, the Kenwood Excelon DNX694S features on-screen maps of the United States, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Canada, and Mexico. The built-in maps include over 6-million Points of Interest (POIs) such as hotels, restaurants, gas stations, attractions, parking, airports, ATMs, and more. The built-in navigation software provides you with calculated on-screen routes and audible directions to follow in order to reach your destination safely.
Note: While the receiver's map database was judged to be as accurate as possible at the time of its release (2016), a map database can never be 100% accurate. Road information that is maintained in the map databases, such as turn restrictions or road names may change over time.
Software/Map Data Updates: When the preloaded maps are considered out of date, the Kenwood receiver will provide periodic notification at startup. Garmin software and map updates can be purchased and downloaded as needed, via microSD card. To find a software or map update, please go to www.garmin.com/kenwood.

The GPS antenna is designed to be mounted inside the vehicle on the dash. The GPS antenna measures 1.3125" (w) x 0.625" (h) x 1.4375" (d). The self-adhesive pad measures 2.5625" square.
Note: The navigation receiver took approximately 14.1 seconds to calculate directions from Charlottesville, Virginia to LA, California. It only took 7.3 seconds to calculate directions from Charlottesville, Virginia to Baltimore, Maryland. These tests were done inside the Crutchfield Lab of the Crutchfield Head Quarters. Results will vary based on length of calculated route and your surrounding area.

While the DNX694S is in navigation mode, it pulls real-time data from the INRIX Traffic app on your smartphone which provides you with up-to-the-minute traffic, weather, parking, traffic cameras, and travel advisory information on-screen. You get 2 years free access to INRIX traffic information (fees will apply after 2nd year). Your iPhone must be connected via USB, while your Android smartphone must be connected via Bluetooth to the Kenwood navigation receiver.
On-Screen Map: The Kenwood Excelon DNX694S displays a real-time moving map illustrating your current position and intended route. It will show map scale and geographic details such as lakes, rivers, highways and towns. Your route is marked with a magenta line. A checkered flag marks your destination. As you travel the DNX694S guides to your destination with arrows on the map and directions at the top of the screen. The upper-left corner of the screen indicates the distance to your next maneuver. During your calculated route, your arrival time is displayed in the lower left corner, your current speed is shown in the lower right corner. The posted speed limit for most major roads is displayed near the lower right corner as well. The unit allows you to zoom, pan, and point using the touchscreen during navigation.
Note: In Split-Screen mode, you can view song/artist information (including album art) of your audio source while you also viewing the navigation map. In addition, the backup camera can be displayed in Split-Screen mode along with the map screen. You can even watch video in Split-Screen mode along with the map when the vehicle's parking brake is engaged.
Text-To-Speech Voice Prompts: The unit's text-to-speech voices "read and speak" the same words that are displayed on the unit's screens. The voices have an extensive vocabulary and they pronounce the street names as you approach turns. Voice prompts can heard from both of your front speakers, only the left front speaker, or only the right front speaker. You can independently adjust the volume (0-40) of the voice prompts without affecting the main volume. The unit offers English, French, and Spanish voice prompts.
Note: You can continue to listen to your music source while navigating. The DNX694S will mute the music source, when there is a text-to-speech voice prompt. Once the voice prompt has ended, your music volume will automatically raise to previous setting.
Driver Assistance: The DNX694S features Turn & Lane Assistance, Exit Services, and Speed Limit Icons to assist you along the calculated route to your destination.
Speed Limit Icon: A speed limit icon may appear as you travel on major roadways. This icon displays the current speed limit of the roadway. Trends: The DNX694S has the ability to recall frequent destinations and historic traffic information to help calculate your route faster.
ecoRoute: The ecoRoute feature calculates your vehicle's fuel economy, carbon footprint, the fuel price of navigating to your destination, and offers tools for improving fuel efficiency. The first time you access the ecoRoute features, you will be asked to enter fuel and mileage information (Fuel Type, City Fuel MPG, HWY Fuel MPG, Fuel Price) about your vehicle.
Note: The data provide by the ecoRoute feature is only an estimate. The data is not actually read from your vehicle.
Route Preferences/Avoidances: When calculating a route, you can select the following preferences; faster time, shorter distance, less fuel, or off road. You can also program the unit to avoid certain things that may be undesirable on your route; such as U-Turns, Highways, Toll Roads, Carpool Lanes, Unpaved Roads, and Ferries.
Auto Reroute/Detour: If you happen to depart from your original route, the internal navigation system recalculates the route and provides new route instructions. You can also select a specific area to detour around. The navigation system will attempt to get you back on your original route as quickly as possible, after calculating a detour. If the route you are currently taking is the only reasonable option, the DNX694S might not calculate a detour.
Trip Planner (Multiple Destination Routing): You can create and save a trip with multiple destinations (up to 500 via points) using the Trip Planner. Once you have entered your destinations, you can manually set them in the order of your preference, or allow the device to calculate the most efficient route. Trip itineraries can be saved in memory for future use. You can even add scheduling information to each location in your trip, including the desired arrival time and layover duration at each location.
Trip Computer: The trip information page displays your current speed and direction, and provides helpful statistics about your trip. Dual trip odometers keep up with your total mileage. The page also indicates the distance and driving time to your next maneuver, as well as the distance and driving time to your destination. Your maximum speed and moving average speed are also displayed. The information can be reset in advance of your next trip.
Safe Mode: Safe Mode disables all navigation system functions that require significant operator attention and could become a distraction while driving when the vehicle's parking brake is disengaged. You can also view the backup camera display along with the map screen. You can even display the navigation map screen and DVD or AV-IN video simultaneously with the vehicle's parking brake engaged.
Front-Panel Controls w/ Variable Color Illumination: In addition to the touchscreen controls, the unit includes frequently used buttons along the left edge of the screen. You can adjust the head unit's button illumination, as well as display background color from the following preset colors - Blue, Purple, Sky Blue, Yellow, Green, Amber, Red, Pink, White or Scan (Scans through all preset colors). You can also select a custom "User" color that is adjusted between Red, Green, and Blue (values range: 0-31).
Dimmer: The dimmer function will dim the head unit's display & front-panel illumination automatically when your vehicle's light switch is turned On, if you have the unit's orange/white "Illumination" wire connected to your vehicle's headlamp circuit. You can also choose to dim the display manually. The Kenwood logo and eject button remain the same brightness.
Clock & Date: The navigation receiver offers a 12-hour clock & day/month/year display. The clock is visible from any source or menu screen. With your vehicle's key in the accessory or start position, the head unit will continue to display the LCD background image, clock, and button illumination during "Standby" mode. Pressing and holding the Power/Home button turns the unit off completely.
Remote Control: The Kenwood DNX694S offers compatibility with factory steering wheel controls (adapter sold separately) and is compatible with Kenwood's IR wireless remote control (sold separately) for added convenience.

I dont know how much they are. I would hope i czn update for the lifetime of the radio [ Michael Aug 28, 2018 ]
Crutchfield's site should answer this question; I entered the make, model and year of my vehicle and was advised by them to purchase the kit that would allow the device to fit properly. It was installed by a professional and the look is impressive. I "love it", other than the vehicle........it's the best purchase I've made in a long time. Crutchfield helped me when I was ordering and I purchased necessary connections for my steering wheel; works perfectly. [ Betty Jul 16, 2018 ]
Yes it will with proper dash kit [ Michael Jul 15, 2018 ]
I guess that would be a question for Crutchfield [ David Jul 15, 2018 ]
I put this unit in a 2012 Tundra that had the factory back-up camera with the monitor in the rear view mirror. I think this unit would work with the factory camera but you would need to locate the factory wiring and splice into it. I chose to install an aftermarket camera because 1) I didn't want to pull the original camera wiring down from the headliner and reroute it. 2) I didn't want to cut the factory harness. My factory back-up camera and monitor are still 100% in tact. Also, I think the after-market camera provides better image quality than the original. Hope this helps! [ Johnny Jul 02, 2018 ]
Yes, it should work, it's just a video signal, the OEM connection to the new head unit may need to be changed to a standard RCA type connection and the harness will need to be wired to make sure the camera comes on when the car is in reverse. But other than that it should work. It might just plug and play. If you buy the custom harness from Crutchfield they will wire it correctly I'm telling you these guys are great. Don [ Don B. Sorry, but I have no idea. Mine was installed in my motor home by others. I would think the Crutchfield folks could answer this question? [ Stephen Jul 02, 2018 ]
So far, for me, it only works with a wired connection. Pandora works through the Bluetooth, but I will tell you, you lose a lot of sound going through Bluetooth. Pandora works better through the wired connection. Hope this helps. [ Calman Jun 27, 2018 ]
Sorry I use Apple products so I do not know [ David Jun 27, 2018 ]
I can only speak on dnx694s. Its awesome and I only have 1 complaint. There is no HDMI to link your phone. If you are excited to link your phone go with a model without GPS built in. I prefer waze to garmin anyway. Garmin has cool features that waze doesn't. Its still 4.99 stars to me. [ Michael Jun 10, 2018 ]
i believe the responsiveness is equal on both models I have had no issues. [ David Jun 09, 2018 ]
It supports bluetooth and apple or android play. Two separate cords for each. As far as mirroring, I am not sure as I am still figuring out the capability of the unit. The bluetooth, in my opinion is never as great as being plugged into the unit. So, with my other vehicle that has android auto, I have become very good at using the Google assistant which this radio will provide via apple or android. Hope this helps. [ Calman May 02, 2018 ]
Haven't tried it, and the kenwood owners manual does not say it does [ Emil May 02, 2018 ]
Yes. It's a great view. There is a set up process that allows the user to set depth markers. [ Steve Jan 13, 2018 ]
Yes. I have the kenwood DNX 694s with the brandmotion camera, it works very well, it pops up quickly on the screen as well. [ ralph Jan 13, 2018 ]
Yes [ Stephen Jan 12, 2018 ]
there are connections for a backup camera to display on this unit. i do not have a camera so do not use this feature, but the connections are there. [ matt Jan 12, 2018 ]
