Kenwood bad
Dean from Kansas City on 4/18/2023
Could never get the front mount to stay on. Neither the stick-on nor suction mount can withstand the temperature fluctuations of the mid-west. App is pretty bad. I just transfer the SD card to my computer when I want to review video. Video quality is poor. Can't even make out a license plate. The G-Sensor was not triggered when I put my car in the ditch at 60 mph. My biggest complaint by far is about Kenwood as a company. After about 2 years the front camera developed a short circuit (probably from falling off the mount all the time). It would work briefly on cold mornings when the wire contracted enough to un-short the circuit. The system remained functional but I had no front video. None of the electronics repair places in my area work on dashcams. I wanted to buy a replacement front camera so I got the part number from Kenwood. The front camera is unavailable for purchase from US retailers and Kenwood absolutely refused to work with me on finding a solution. It only comes as a complete package. If one component of the system fails you must replace the entire system. Kenwood doesn't stand by their product and they don't care about their customers.
Pros: Records video
Cons: Poor video quality Poor hardware quality Unintuitive software/UI Features don't work Kenwood will only help if they are legally obligated

Kenwood DRV-A501WDP
Tom from Akron, NY on 3/31/2023
I purchased the KENWOOD DRV501WDP to install in my Ram truck. The installation instructions are brief and the operation manual is pointless and vague. I was able to hard wire install the device easily enough as a DIY kind of guy. With a little playing around I quickly learned how to operate the device. I decided that an SD card reader for iPhone was easier to view and save footage than the wireless feature. The images and video are very good quality and all important data like speed & location are imprinted on recordings. I plan on ordering another for my wife's car soon and can easily recommend this product. This is my first experience with a dash camera and it was painless to install. Good luck,??

It's a pretty good dash cam, the only issue that I have come across is the input wire for the rear camera is too tall that it cause the camera to push upwards against the base. Adding a 90 degree USB adapter seams to do the trick.

Frustrating Cam......
Christopher from Foley, AL on 6/30/2022
Ok so first of all Crutchfield tech support is great (yet again) BUT the camera itself has effectively zero helpful instructions. It does come with some very "basic" instructions in like 20 languages---but for the average person just wanting safety while driving (and proof for insurance company and law enforcement) this camera and its functionality (with app on smartphone) is horrible. It does not walk you through set-up. It does not walk you through formatting. It does not walk you through interfacing with the smartphone app and it does not walk you through downloading and saving videos--which let's face it is the WHOLE idea for getting one of these. Prepare to be very frustrated. I would not recommend this front / rear Dash Cam. One bright spot--Crutchfield tech support as always is stellar....
Pros: Decent price and nice video quality (once set-up is completed which is next to impossible).
Cons: Zero helpful / useful instructions on how to get fully operational.

Trials and Tribulations
Kevin from Colorado Spgs, CO on 6/5/2022
Quick start guide is USELESS.. 95% is IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE. Website is garbage. App is garbage. Getting acquainted with the features is actual work. I ordered a dual dashcam and got a dual pain in my butt.
Pros: Perhaps eventually I may figure out a pro.. On my own of course, tech support was laughable.. It was like calling my uninformed self to remedy my issues.
Cons: Website sux. App sux. Quick start guide sux. Be prepared to figure it out yourself.. several tech support technicians I contacted were less than knowledgeable experts on the dash cams I asked about.

Jacob from LOVELAND, CO on 2/1/2022
It's ok. I have not installed the rear facing camera yet but the front facing is fine. If I could review the Kenwood app separately it would get ZERO stars. It is such garbage that downloading on your phone at all is a total waste of space. I haven't played with the camera a lot but I feel like it's more of a "set it and forget it" toy. If I need it hopefully it'll do what it's supposed to. Overall pleased but I didn't have high expectations.
Pros: Pretty easy to use
Cons: Useless App

Nice unit
Crutchfield customer from Lanexa, VA on 10/29/2021
Seems to work well. Put it in my SUV before a trip from VA to MS. Bought the rear camera also. Easy to install running all cables out of sight.
Pros: Small unobtrusive. Records on bumps with adjustable sensitivity. Easy to install.
Cons: Button to save video is small, hard to hit when driving. When screen saver is on you have to hit twice, one to wake and second to save. When using rear camera option main camera resolution is less. Setup takes a little while to learn.

Very satisfied with this product
Connor from Clemson, SC on 9/6/2021
Good all around dash cam. Easy to install and setup while offering the user a wide range of features. Extremely intuitive menu and navigation of settings and features. Video quality is more than good enough to see what is happening and night time recording is also good. The only thing that I don't like about it is if you put it into standby while parked, even closing the car door will trigger the camera to start recording. This is also a positive thing as it will definitely flag a video if you experience a crash or your car is hit while you are not present
Pros: Good video quality easy setup intuitive setting menu customizable video length accelerometer (g-force sensor) is extremely sensitive
Cons: accelerometer (g-force sensor) is extremely sensitive

Easy to install w/o any major hangups or problems. Great clear picture and sound. Navigating the screens takes a little time to hit the learning curve. But once you get the hang of it, not an issue. If you're looking for a good set-up, I'd say this is the way to go

So good so far ??
Erin from SAINT LOUIS, MO on 4/2/2020
So good so far. I like how small it is and that it can mostly hide behind my mirror and tint. The only issue that I've had so far is actually not with the cameras, but with the App. It is not nearly as easy as I thought it would be to download videos straight to my phone. Not a big deal as you can still remove the memory card and pull off data that way.
Pros: Physical size, audible noise to know it turns on and off with the car (it's hardwired in).
Cons: The mobile app isn't as functional as I was hoping it would be.

BROOKLYN
Kenneth from BROOKLYN on 3/23/2020
i bought this cam sight unseen. Kenwood DRV-A501WDP. front and rear. here are the key things you should know *if you run without screensaver feature, the cam will overheat and restart itself. EVERY SINGLE TIME. and even faster on a hot summer day * footage is only recorded in 1440p only if the rear cam is disabled. With front and rear enabled , the most you can do is dual 1080p 30fps. sucks, but i can live with that. even with these compromises, the cam does the job. 1080p footage is enough for my needs. And i dont mind the screen saver feature to prevent overheating. Just wish i knew of these limitations before buying!!
