And if that isn't enough music for you, you can also satisfy your music fix using the receiver's rear aux input for a portable music player. Both USB ports can handle MP3, WMA, AAC, WAV, or FLAC music files on a thumb drive, too.

Variable color illumination lets you pick the display and button colors for the perfect accent to your dash. This receiver also provides three sets of high-voltage RCA preamp outputs, so you can amplifiers to your system for additional power and control for your speakers.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ordered instead of a Sony deck that was marked way down. But I've owned 6 kenwood car receivers and I've always had good luck. Now difference here. Way more options than I'll probanly ever use. But I could really dial it in for my truck. Speaker size. What frequency I want different ranges at. Distance of speakers in relation to the driver. You name it. And FINALLY kenwood has a more subtitle display color and brightness. Any deck I've ever seen in the past was too distracting. I can get this just the way I want it. Very happy with the purchase. Customer service with Artie was also very good. Help me decide on this one. Above all, all of this at a great price.

    Pros: Too many to list

    Cons: None so far

It's exactly what I was looking for to add to my system...

I'm really happy that I ordered this deck to add to my always expanding system! I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a upgrade for their car audio system!!!

Pros: It's a 5 volt deck which I wanted mostly...Fast turn around and delivery...Pricing was great!!

Cons: Doesn't come with a remote "unless you consider having to use your phone which I don't like" and if you want one you have to order one separately and for the life of me couldn't find one that I could order from crutchfield so you have to find elsewhere which I did on amazon...

Very easy install. Overall this unit sounds great with my OEM speakers. I like the dash-line words and the colors make the dash visually pleasing I just need radio and Bluetooth is all of the extras are unnecessary for me. There 3 minor reasons for 4 instead of 5 stars. (1) The buttons are a soft push feel instead of a harder tactile click. Also I'm not a fan of the radio preset buttons being joined in pairs. (2) The second reason is that the apps didn't seem to work on my Android; perhaps I'm not understanding a setting. (3) when switching sources sometime you cannot quickly skip over a source before the unit goes into a quick load mode before moving o ; this is really only a few second delay.

    Pros: Sound

    Cons: Buttons

Great looking unit! Just what you would expect from Exelon. I took off and retired my Bose head deck for this guy. WOW and here I was afraid to loose sound and quality. Gains 3x the volume clarity is incredible. Answering a call is clear as day. So many colors I got to match my cluster. With the 2 USB output, one ended up front and center on the dash the second one I put it in the glove box (like an oldschool CD changer on the trunk, lol). I did buy some cool extenders for the 3.5 jack and usb to accomplish this. Is still under construction sense I did relocated the head deck to where the CD changer use to be ( with a bit of imagination) over all it sounds great and my Escalade had the Bose setup.

When I ordered my stereo it said 4-5 business days so I wasn't expecting to get it in two days! What really made me satisfied with my order is that they emailed me every step of the way till it was out of their hands and in the shipping company's hands! This is a great company to get all your car audio needs and know that what ever you get is going to be quality!

Pros: The stereo works great no loose buttons or anything!

Cons: There are no cons from me!

Great unit! Significantly better than my factory unit and still able to use the wheel controls with the optional module. Adapter panel for dash gave me a nice additional pocket under the deck to store phones. I'm considering buying another one of these for my kid's car- it's very good overall.

Pros: Built-in crossovers and speaker configuration settings to account for 3rd row seating, can hide IPod and cables because of rear connection points, can change volume (offset) and EQ settings per source to help level things out.

Cons: Biggest issue - hard to see when direct sunlight is on it, lag time between source changes, buttons are small, 20 second lag time to connect to Bluetooth.

Very nice radio with great sound. I upgraded from a much older Kenwood to this one so I could use my iPhone. Everything worked great until I plugged my iPhone into it. Then nothing worked. I had to reset it several times. When I finally got it to work my phone overheated so now I'm having issues with the battery. This unit is NOT compatible with the iPhone 6s!

    Pros: Quality sound and functionality

Cons: Doesn't work with an iPhone plugged into it. Ruined my phones battery.

This is the best head unit for the price. It beats out anything that is double it's price. The Bluetooth makes even older iPhone phones and Ipod sound amazing. The ability to program your setting for your speakers is above every other brands. This is one head unit that does what it says it can

Cons: The only thing is you have to read the manual to fully understand how this thing really works

In Washington state, maybe not the best choice ...

Gregory from Bellingham, WA on 8/20/2018

    2001 Volkswagen Passat
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really wanted to like the KDC-X502 - it had a lot of features and seemed to be what was needed to replace an aging 2001.5 VW Passat Sedan Monsoon HU. But I didn't really know what I wanted except for 'it must sound at least as good as the existing Monsoon system'. The Crutchfield rep recommended this unit, but after installation it was clear that I couldn't use it. For starters, it's interface is too 'busy' with extremely small buttons arranged (IMHO) non-ergonomically. In short, this interface seems to beg a traffic ticket in Washington state under the new Distracted Driving Laws. And witnessing two rear end accidents in stop-and-go rush-hour(s) traffic the past three weeks makes me wonder about the cause ...). The super-reflective front panel is really a problem because you literally have to lean over to see what it's displaying when driving in sunlight. The amplifier section seems to be all right, except it does not have enough power to drive a decent component system. So you need an add-on amplifier, or if you plan to re-use the OEM Monsoon amp then you need to install a relay in the amplifier power line to keep it from draining the battery (because the Monsoon HU has an output that turns the amp on and off, while the Kenwood has not such interface for the amplifier). The tuner sensitivity, both AM and FM is really low. Surely, it has a lot of features, but most I had to disable for a simpler setup. Ultimately returned for an Alpine UTE-73BT/KTP-4

Pros: Many features Audio quality quite all right

Cons: Driving distraction Poor driving ergonomics (reflective display, small buttons, non-ergonomic controls layout) No case for front panel USB and Aux interface provided by cables, which must be run and/or terminated someplace accessible. Poor tuner sensitivity User manual and tech support very difficult to reconcile.

I bought this unit to upgrade my stock 2001 Toyota Tacoma radio and add bluetooth. This was easy to install and makes using my phone to listen to my music and audio books simple. 2002 Ford Ranger
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I would give it ONE STAR for having TOO MUCH STUFF on it but that wouldn't be fair. I installed this in a 2002 Ford Ranger (extended cab), along with four Kenwood 2-way speakers and a Kenwood sub. With all of the wiring harnesses, tools and additional gear supplied by Crutchfield, it made installation about as painless as you could ask for. This thing sounds great, with a ton of adjustable parameters to let you hear it the way YOU want to hear it. It has decent enough power (for the cab of a truck) and it's a night-and-day difference over the factory unit. The USB ports and AUX-IN work seamlessly. I haven't tried the bluetooth yet. The only niggles I have are the single-knob approach to dialing it all in (which wasn't terrible after doing it for a while), and the teeny clock numbers. I mean they're almost unreadable. If I missed the part where it says how to making them bigger, somebody clue me in. Otherwise, this thing is stupid cheap for the features on it, isn't too hard to figure out how to make it all work, was a breeze to install, and sounds great.

Pros: Easy to install Tons of adjustability Good power (for a truck)

    Cons: Tiny clock

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this to replace the factory CD/tape head unit in my 2004 WJ with Infinity sound. It still worked fine but I really wanted Bluetooth. I've been using Alpine since around 1993 and looked there first but the new single din units from them are pretty ugly in my opinion so I decided to give Kenwood a try. I love this thing so far, looks great with clean face (all inputs are on the rear) color matched my factory gauges and sounds amazing. All brands have there own sound, after decades of Alpine I was worried I may not like this unit but I love it. I'm still running the rest of the system stock for right now and this HU made a drastic improvement in the sound quality over the stock one. Bottom line, awesome HU especially for the price.

Pros: Looks great, sounds great, lots of features and adjustments.

Cons: The only con that comes to mind is searching a thumb drive is best done sitting still. It's really just a limitation of single din head units.

    Not good.

    1998 Nissan 200SX
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Does not work as advertised with a USB Flash drive. I spoke with Tech support, re-worked the folder structure on the flash drive several times per their instructions, but my entire music collection - 8,384 files in 322 folders, at 32.3 GB, which is not that large, was on a 64 GB Flash drive. But I couldn't get to at least 1/4 of it an any one time, sometimes 2/3 of it would not be available. I got tech support and followed their instructions, but the result was the same. I put my old stereo back in the car, and sent the Kenwood back to them. I bought this unit specifically to have my music all on 1 flash drive, and be able to get rid of my Ipod, I don't like Apple, but it looks like I'll have to rebuild Itunes again, and go from there. Also, the blue tooth speaker phone is worthless if the car is moving. ANY noise at all and no one can hear you, even with the car not moving and engine off, I had to shout to be heard. My Subwoofer also sounded horrible with this stereo, I messed with the setting, Low pass Filter, etc, it never sounded good. I have 3 Kenwood Ham Radios that I really like, but I won't buy another stereo from them.

Pros: Looks nice. Good sound quality.

Cons: USB working with a Flash drive is a dismal failure, Blue tooth speaker phone is useless.

Awesome stereo. I'm not use to so many equalizer features took a little fine tuning but it sounds great. The blue tooth is easy to set up. Long cables on the back for usb made it easy to run where I needed them. Aux port is kinda short but I was able to position where I can use it if I need. I will probably buy another one of these in the future for one of my other vehicles

    Pros: Easy to use

Cons: Only rear aux port on a short cable

2000 Jeep Cherokee- Fantastic head unit paired with Memphis Street Reference 6 1/2's. What an improvement over the factory unit! Color matched with the instruments and HVAC controls perfectly! One Con- the display is very reflective in the daylight and difficult to read. I put an anti-glare protector over it and it is now much improved.

Pros: Coming from an older audiophile this is a great unit for the price!

Cons: Face plate glare in the sunlight.

Has some good power and made a huge difference with the stock speakers, but I replaced all 4 door speakers with Polk Audio and it really makes them come alive. I was considering adding a small (compact) amp to the system, but there is no need!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit does all and a lot more than I expected. It is installed in a 2006 Dodge Dakota and has sirius xm and maestro steering wheel and factory amp control added to it. Everything turned out great on this unit after a few calls to support, but they were all great on helping me get this project done.Just now learning what it can all do and how to operate it correctly..The biggest install problem was flashing the maestro interface, it was attempted many times and then a replacement unit was tried, and still had same problem. It would flash and say it was complete but would not work. I was told to disable virus and malware protection before flashing unit as they will stop some of the files from being installed. After doing that when it said it was flashed it was installed and everything worked great. This needs to be added to instructions to stop that problem from ever happening. As far as this unit goes now, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great stero head at a great price.

    Pros: All good

    Cons: None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Awesome head unit. It is replacing the factory unit in my 98 Dodge Ram and it is a huge improvement over the factory stereo. I love how I can control pandora & search my pandora stations on my phone over bluetooth on the reciever as well as access my phonebook contacts to make a call without touching the phone. Have it powering the factory infinity speakers and it sounds killer. Way more control over the sound than the stock unit. The custom color schemes are pretty cool also.

Pros: Great sound, easy to learn controls, music app and phonebook control of my iphone over bluetooth, custom display & key colors, dual rear usb inputs, rear mic input, rear aux input and a great price. 3 pairs front/rear/sub 5v rca outputs to keep amp gain low & many more.

Cons: Now I need to buy some speakers and subs to complete the whole package. Other than that no cons in my opinion.

Radio too difficult to operate. Nothing intuitive except One button for volume. Changing radio station that is not on a preset requires multiple steps to enter that mode. Scanning a radio station requires passenger assistance in order to keep drivers eyes on the road. Change function from radio to satellite or auxiliary same problem multiple buttons to enter that mode. Life too short spend more $ and get something easier to operate or give as a gift to your annoying friend.

    Pros: Inexpensive

    Cons: Too difficult to operate

Super easy install. Crutchfield install instructions were perfect and simple to follow. The Kenwood unit works great and the option to change the display color makes it match the dash nicely. The only thing I'd like to change is a way to browse music I've got loaded to the USB drive but I guess that's impossible on a single din display.

    Pros: Easy install, fair price

    Cons: display size

Still adjusting the sound parameters which is much more intuitive than my previous Alpine deck. Great flexibility with colors. Sound seems much clearer with improved sound stage.

Pros: Very easy installation once I figured out the wiring previously done by someone else. Very easy to tailor the sound to my vehicle and more intuitive than my other deck.

    Cons: None

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 3.0: The Kenwood Excelon KDC-X502 is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (ver. 3.0) allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X502. Visit Kenwood's Support Site for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled phones.

SSP & USB Pairing: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X502 without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. You can even pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5+) or Android smartphone (running Kenwood Music Play App) by simply connecting it to the Kenwood head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.

    • Dual Phone Connection: Thanks to the Dual Phone Connection feature, two Bluetooth-enabled phones can remain connected to the Kenwood receiver. This means you can an answer an incoming call from either phone from the head unit. Also, both of your phone's contact lists are downloaded to the receiver. To make a call from one of the phones using the Kenwood receiver, you simply have to select Phone 1 or Phone 2 on the head unit's front-panel.
    • Music Mix: The new Music Mix feature allows five Bluetooth audio source devices to be connected to the Kenwood receiver at one time, so you can switch between Bluetooth playback sources a lot easier and quicker. While "BT Audio" source is selected on the head unit, you can simply press the music playback button on your connected Bluetooth source devices to switch between devices and begin music playback. However, you cannot stream audio from two different Bluetooth audio source devices at the same time or combine music libraries or playlists from two different connected devices.
Note: You can pair up to five Bluetooth-enabled devices to the Kenwood head unit. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The controls of the KDC-X502 can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone (featuring adjustable gain), so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering a Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the head unit's front-panel controls, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call immediately or after 1-30 seconds. The KDC-X502 also supports the Call Waiting function, so you can answer another incoming call while suspending the current call you are on. Your compatible cell-phone must also support this feature.
    • Dialing a Number: Using the KDC-X502, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:
      • Enter Phone #: Allows you to directly dial a phone number up to 32 digits from the head unit's control knob or remote control.
      • Preset Dial: Allows you to register up to 6 phone numbers for quick dialing. The preset numbers can be accessed from the head unit's front-panel controls.
      • Phone Book: You can download phone book data from your mobile phone to the KDC-X502. You can then dial a contact within the phonebook from the head unit's front-panel controls. Contacts are categorized as Home, Office, Mobile, Other, or General.
      • Call History: The Call History is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls.
      • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone.

External Mic: The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the volume level, noise cancellation, and echo cancellation of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 10' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Kenwood Excelon KDC-X502 supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or audio player. You are able to stream your stored music library on your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, as well as music apps downloaded on your smartphone to the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X502 for playback.

    • SBC + AAC Codecs: In addition to support for the standard SBC Bluetooth audio codec, the KDC-X502 offers support of AAC. By supporting AAC, the KDC-X502 offers better audio performance of the music streamed from your Apple iPod, iPhone, or iPad.
    • Advanced Music Browsing: In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the KDC-X502 lets you browse your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, etc. (AVRCP 1.4 phones only; which includes Android 4.0+ and iPhone 5.0+).
    • Song/Artist Information: The head unit will also display your stored music and music app's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (not compatible with all apps).
Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Siri Eyes Free Control: When paired and connected to an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth, the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X502 has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. Simply press-and-hold down on the head unit's Answer Button to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the KDC-X502 and its microphone. You even can ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Siri. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

Note: The head unit's display will only indicate hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X502; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

    Android & iPhone Integration

Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0) Connectivity: The Kenwood Excelon KDC-X502's rear-panel USB ports let you connect select Android (OS 4.1-7.1.2) smartphones that support AOA 2.0 for music playback. Kenwood does not guarantee operation with all Android devices, regardless of operating system. There are two Android AOA 2.0 modes to choose from based on what content you want to listen to and how you want to control it.
    • Hand Mode: The Kenwood Excelon KDC-X502 supports Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0), which lets you connect your Android smartphone (OS 4.1-7.1.2) to the KDC-X502's rear-panel USB ports and listen to stored music and music apps from your Android device through the Kenwood head unit. You'll be able to control basic playback functions such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track. Other advanced music navigation will still be done from your Android smartphone's touchscreen. In this mode, the head unit will not display song/artist information; only "Hand Mode" will show up on display. You'll continue to view song/artist information from the Android device's touchscreen. You'll also still be able to access other functions and applications from your Android smartphone's touchscreen, while listening to music through the head unit. If you make a call or answer a call from your smartphone while listening to music in this mode, the music will pause until you are finished with the call and then start back up again.
    • Browse Mode (via Kenwood Music Play App): Downloading the Kenwood Music Play app onto your Android (OS 4.1-7.1.2) smartphone with AOA 2.0 support not only allows you to listen to stored music from your Android device through the Kenwood CD receiver connected via USB, but it also lets you browse your Android smartphone's music library from the head unit's front-panel controls. You can browse your store music library by Playlist, Artist, Song, Album, or Genre. The contents of a Playlist or Category can be searched alphabetically or numerically; you can even skip through the stored music files in specific increments (0.5/1/5/10%). You can also control Play/Pause and Previous/Next track from the head unit. In addition, the head unit will display song/artist information. You can exit the Kenwood Music Play app to access other functions and applications of your Android smartphone, while your stored music library is still playing through your head unit. If you make a call or answer a call from your smartphone while listening to music in this mode, the music will pause until you are finished with the call and then start back up again.

iPhone Direct Connection: The Kenwood Excelon KDC-X502's rear-panel USB ports can be used to connect your Lightning Apple device or 30-pin iPhone 4S to the head unit. The USB connection allows for playback of stored music and music apps on your iPod or iPhone through Kenwood receiver. If you have a newer iPod/iPhone with the Lightning-connector, you can use Kenwood's Lightning connector-to-USB cable (113KCIP103 sold separately) or the Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone to the KDC-X502. If you have an iPhone 4S with a 30-pin dock connector, you can use the dock connector-to-USB cable that comes with your Apple device or a 3rd party "Made for iPod/iPhone" certified dock-to-USB cable (sold separately) to connect your iPhone 4S to the KDC-X502.

    • Head Unit Control: From the head unit's front-panel controls you can search for stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Podcast, Genre, and Composer. The contents of a Playlist or Category can be searched alphabetically or numerically; you can even skip through the stored music files in specific increments (0.5/1/5/10%). The KDC-X502 also supports Repeat (file/all) and Random (album/all) playback functions of stored music on your iPod/iPhone. In addition, you'll be able to control basic playback functions (such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track) from stored music and select music apps streamed to your iPhone. You can also choose to control your Apple device from its own touchscreen, instead of the head unit.
    • Song/Artist Info Display: The KDC-X502 will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information such as Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song title, and Album title.

Smartphone Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1.5A of current to power and charge your connected Apple iPod/iPhone or Android smartphone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position (if your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it).

Equalizer: The Kenwood Excelon KDC-X502 offers 8 EQ Presets for easy adjustment, a 13-band EQ for customized tuning, a Drive EQ mode to overcome road noise, and a Stage EQ for better imaging. Separate EQ settings and EQ presets can be stored for each source or you can apply one EQ preset or curve to all sources.

    • Preset EQ: The integrated equalizer offers 8 preset sound modes (Rock, Pops, Easy, Top 40, Jazz, Natural, Drive EQ, or User) suitable for the music genre of your choice.
    • 13-Band EQ: The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 13-band EQ (62.5Hz, 100Hz, 160Hz, 250Hz, 400Hz, 630Hz, 1kHz, 1.6kHz, 2.5kHz, 4kHz, 6.3kHz, 10kHz, & 16kHz). Each frequency's gain level can be adjusted from -9dB to +9 dB, while the Q-factor can be adjusted to 1.35, 1.5, or 2.0.
    • Drive EQ: The Drive EQ mode helps you hear your music over road noise. It boosts certain frequency ranges that become hard to hear due to road noise.
    • Stage EQ: Stage EQ virtually lifts the sound up to ear-level for better imaging inside your vehicle.

Audio Settings: The Kenwood Excelon KDC-X502 offers a variety of audio settings to further enhance your music listening experience.

    • Sound Reconstruction: When MP3, WMA, AAC files encoded at a low bit rate (less than 96 kbps, 44.1k, 48kHz) are played, the Sound Reconstruction function restores their high frequencies so the sound quality is closer to files encoded at a high bit rate. The processing is optimized for the compression format and the bit rate used. When Sound Reconstruction is Off, the unit plays the original sound stored in the audio file.
    • Space Enhancer & Sound Realizer: The Spacer Enhancer widens the soundstage inside your vehicle, while the Sound Realizer makes your music sound more realistic.
    • Loudness, Bass Boost & Bass Extension: The Loudness feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. The unit's Bass Boost enhances low bass frequencies at any volume level. There is also a Bass Extension feature which further enhances the unit's bass output at extremely low frequencies.
    • Volume Offset: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -15 to +6.

Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Remote Control

Remote App (for Apple iOS): The Kenwood Remote App (for Apple iOS 8.0+) operates the Kenwood receiver like a wireless remote control from your USB or Bluetooth connected Apple iOS device. The Kenwood Remote App provides traditional touchscreen control, as well as directional and freeform gesture control from your compatible mobile device.

    • Source Selection: The Kenwood Remote App provides list of the receiver's built-in sources and connected sources (CD, Aux, AM/FM, USB, Bluetooth); so you can select which source you want to listen to from the app on your mobile device.
    • Playback Control: The application lets you control CD, USB, and Bluetooth audio playback. You have control of Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, and Repeat/Random. From the app you can also select AM/FM bands, select preset stations, and seek AM/FM stations.
    • Display Information: The app also displays source information such as station number, track number & playback time, as well as song/artist/album information (when applicable)
    • Audio Settings: From the application on your mobile device, you can adjust the receiver's volume up or down. In addition, audio settings such as EQ, Crossover, DTA, and other audio adjustments can be easily set using the Kenwood Remote application.
    • When using the Kenwood Remote App with your compatible Apple iOS device, the application and device must be connected to the receiver via Bluetooth (not USB) for playback of Bluetooth audio. For playback of a USB-direct connection from an Apple iOS device, the device and application must be connected to the head unit via USB (not Bluetooth).
    • The Remote App is no longer compatible with any model Android OS device (as of 1/1/2019).

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).

Optional IR Remote: The KDC-X502 is compatible with Kenwood's IR remote control (RC-406, sold separately) for wireless operation of the receiver.

    Display Features

Detachable Face w/ Hidden CD Slot: The Kenwood Excelon KDC-X502 features a hidden CD slot behind a manual flip-up cover which blends into the front-panel of the head unit. The KDC-X502 also features a detachable face to deter theft (no face case provided). An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

1.5 Line Display: The KDC-X502 is equipped with a 16 digit 1.5 line LCD screen. You can select between English or Spanish text.

Variable Color Illumination: The Kenwood Excelon KDC-X502 features variable color display and button illumination. You can choose from one of 24 preset colors, have the unit scan through all 24 preset colors continuously, or customize your own color (RGB; 0-9). The custom setting allows you to individually adjust the intensity of Red, Green, and Blue (from 0-9) to better match your vehicle's interior lights. The same color setting is applied to both the display and buttons, or you can choose a different color for Zone 1 and Zone 2 (see owner's manual illustration). The Kenwood logo remains red.

Brightness & Dimmer: You can adjust the brightness of the LCD and button illumination independently or together (from 0-31). You can also dim (on or off) the display and button illumination. You can even set a specific time for the "Off" and "On" dimmer setting to be activated.

Text Scroll: The KDC-X502 will display song/artist information text from CD, USB, Bluetooth, iPhone, and Android. You can set the text scrolling feature to three different modes (Auto, Once, or Off) to scroll longer titles across the screen.

12Hr/24Hr Clock: The head unit can be set to display a 12hr or 24hr clock. The unit also displays the day (Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, or Sat). The clock is only displayed when selected and is not displayed simultaneously with song/artist or station information. The day & time can be selected to remain on, even if the head unit is switched off (as long as the vehicle's key is in the accessory or start position).

Demo Mode: This unit features a Demo mode which can be turned On or Off within the menu.

Hi Matt. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. I bought the x702 as a gift for my brother and his fiancé. They both have iPhones, as do I. I did read a few things about it NOT working with certain apps due to copyright protection. Maybe do a search of some android groups. The unit itself is fantastic. My bro and I are very happy with it so far. [ Chris  Jan 11, 2018 ]
