Dedicated to the music lover

The Kenwood Excelon KDC-X702 CD receiver offers just about everything for people who want to play music, including crystal-clear aptX® wireless music streaming, a built-in HD Radio tuner, flawless CD playback, Internet radio control, and a 13-band equalizer to sound-sculpt your tunes. The variable color illumination enhances this Kenwood's handsome looks, and gives you some personalization options. And, Kenwood backs up their Excelon receivers with a 2-year warranty.

Let's talk wireless

In addition to hands-free calling with Bluetooth for two phones, you can pair up to five phones with this Kenwood for streaming your favorite playlists wirelessly. The receiver offers two options for clear, near-CD-quality music streaming: aptX® for Android phones and other compatible devices, or AAC files for your iPhone®. And if your passengers want control over this receiver from your smartphone, you can simply load Kenwood's free Remote app for them.

HD Radio clarity

HD Radio

The KDC-X702 lets you enjoy HD Radio from participating stations. When you're tuned in, you'll hear FM that's close to CD quality or AM that comes in clear and static-free. And if you're not in an area with HD Radio stations, don't worry — this Kenwood's sensitive radio tuner will pick up local analog stations, too.

More radio options

Using the controls on the receiver, you can access your favorite Pandora®, Spotify™, and iHeartRadio® Internet Radio stations from your iPhone or Android. You can also check out the incredibly deep programming and nationwide coverage offered by satellite radio by adding a SiriusXM tuner

Lots of connectivity

In addition to playing CDs, you can connect a portable music player to the rear aux input, and the two rear-panel USB ports can handle thumb drives loaded with MP3, WMA, AAC, WAV, or high-res FLAC music files. You can also play, control, and charge select Android phones, an iPod®, or an iPhone that's plugged into either USB port.

Tone controls and expansion

Use the 13-band equalizer and digital time alignment to adjust your music, so it sounds like you've always got the best seat in the house. Kenwood's Drive EQ boosts specific frequencies to help overcome road noise that can drown out your music. The three pairs of RCA preamp outputs send a clean, high-voltage signal to any outboard amps in your system, and you can adjust the audio levels and crossover points for these outputs.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our articles about Bluetooth profiles and streaming music using Bluetooth with aptX.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

Great Sound

This receiver gets better radio reception than my old radio and sounds MUCH better--even when I used only the old speakers. Operation is pretty intuitive and was easy to set up. The only negative for me is that the clock display is fairly small.

Pros: Great sound Intuitive Easy installation and setup

Cons: Small clock display

I've been a fan of KENWOOD for years. This unit was bought to replace one I'd had for 10 years. The sound quality was beyond imagine, and the sound shaping is on point. I could spend hours working on it, but found a great sound for my old Ford..... Love this unit!!!

Great sounds, many options to play with. Looks good. Wish it had a remote but overall a very good head unit. I purchased this from the outlet. Looks new but wasn't reset. Previous owner's phone was still saved in device.

Pros: Looks good. Good sound quality. A lot of options to change and setup exactly how you want it.

Cons: No remote. Previous owner's phone saved to unit

Ive been a longtime Kenwood fan and have had nothing but decks in all my vehicles that I've owned. I would have given this product a 5 star but what pained me the most about this new deck was that it didn't come with a seperate remote control. Kenwood came up with this dumb idea to make a remote control app for your phone. I can see where they were going with this being that we do everything on our phones now but this app has caused disaster after disaster ever since I opened the box. I've had to send back 2 of the same decks that both had a usb error message whenever I tried to plug in my iPhone XR and it was labeled as a defective product. Long story short, I called Kenwood USA and they said that they have had none stop complaints about the remote app not working properly. Uninstalled the remote app and that fixed my usb issue and made Bluetooth sync faster. I have to thank the CF tech team for all their help with my issues and a thank you to customer service for sending and returning my items. IF YOU BUY A KENWOOD DECK, DO NOT GET THE REMOTE APP!!!

Pros: Multi color zone option display 2 USB ports 13 band EQ 5 volt preouts

Cons: The Kenwood remote app

Great deck but aptx giving me issues.

It's a great radio but I found a bug in it and it has to do with aptx Bluetooth streaming. When streaming via Bluetooth with aptx, any song with plenty of midbass and bass, I get lots of humming noise coming out the tweeters when it's playing at loud volumes. I've tried 2 devices, same thing. Now I can play the same song via USB drive and I get no humming sounds coming out the tweeters. And why do I say it has to do with aptx, because on an Android device, you can go into development mode, and in there you can switch aptx streaming to AAC streaming, and what do you know, noise is gone.

Pros: Features

Cons: seems aptx is faulty

A well built head unit with fantastically precise audio. The HD radio, aptX Bluetooth and two year warranty make it worth the investment but the precision of the sound shaping features seal the deal. Easier to utilize than my factory unit, even at my old Sienna's low height on the dash. Very satisfied and anxious to be on the road with it!

Pros: Clarity of sources, ease of use, custom display colors, EQ dynamics, good warranty

Cons: Small buttons, menu structure takes some brief acclimation

Been using it for week and it's very nice, just running a 2 channel amp to the front speakers and a sub right now and it sounds great. I can tell a big difference in sound quality compared to my last car which only had a different headunit. It sounds cleaner and I use bluetooth with aptx, which is the main reason I got this. Very glad about this purchase as it seems to be the best single din out there at this price point.

Pros: Sound quality, aptx, 4 volt preout DTA Rear USB and Aux

Cons: Display is hard to see with certain colors USB is not that good with android

Excellent feature rich replacement

Still in the early listening phase but so far this is an excellent unit. Breaths new life into my 05 Mini Cooper S, with added features which were not available then or very pricey additions. Hands free phone, Bluetooth connectivity and USB connections are the biggest upgrades this unit provided. The unit replaced the premium Harmon-Kardon unit which sounded awesome at the time and this Kenwood is, in my opinion, even better. Now all I have to do is get educated on all the new feature this unit has, which are many. Excellent unit, I'd recommend to anyone looking for a feature rich replacement to their stock radio.

I ordered this radio to replace an older KDC-502 that was giving me issues with connecting to my Bluetooth as well as not being able to play high resolution FLAC files. I was able to install it within an hour as the hardware and wiring was very similar and only had to make a few tweaks.

Pros: So far the radio sounds better and looks like the Bluetooth connects well. It also plays the flac files that I wanted to play

Cons: Understanding the options for setting up the equalizer, trying to figure out how to get better higher frequency to work.

I got this for my wifes' car as it is illegal to even have a phone in your hand when driving. You WILL get pulled over if the police see it in your hand even if you're not using it. The fine is more than the cost of this unit. Looks great. Bluetooth works great. I love that you can have multiple things connected via Bluetooth at the same time and the phone overrides everything. I couldn't use the metal sleeve to install it as the screws were not long enough. I just used the install kit that cruthcifield provided. Woked fine.

Easy to install. Setup procedure was well worth the effort. Intuitive control once one understands the menu flow. I really like the way this product allows me to customize the sound to fit my application, so it's not a "one size fits all" listening experience. The optional display colors are a huge point of sanctification because I could create the exact light color produced by my dashboard lights, so the installed unit looks as if it was a factory option. Bluetooth connection a breeze, and the supporting smartphone app is well appreciated

Pros: Can be customized to fit every unique part of the vehicle's environment from speaker size, to cabin volume, all in easy to do steps!

Cons: none

After installing a $300+ lookalike stereo in my 1964 Impala and finding that it was about $250 over priced and no good I decided to do a glove box stereo. Otis recommended this unit as there are several in the price range. So far I am very happy with it. It has features I like and looks really nice. There are a lot of settings that you can use or not worry about which makes it nice. The display is nice and shows well in direct sunlight....if you have polarized sunglasses it will make it hard to see but i am sure this is true with all things. Going from the previous stereo to this one I did notice better audio quality which was nice. Interface is straight forward once you get it set up to your liking. One complaint is that it does not come with a remote...but you can purchase one separately but Crutchfield does not carry it. The Kenwood remote app is lame and unresponsive at times so makes it useless. Very happy with this unit and Crutchfield's support.

Pros: Display Settings Quality of sound

Cons: No Remote included Remote App is useless

Great sound. The quality of received signal is second to none. The cell phone interface if par excellence. Bluetooth connection was a snap. Sound quality using a cell phone/ listening to XFM/FM/Am is as good as I have listened to in a car. The pigtail/connector service offered by Crutchfield is a must have. Worked without a hitch. My 2007 Forester is spiffy now.

Pros: Awesome sound. Deep deep bass and still clear as a bell. The Cell phone/hands free connection is as clear talking and listening as sitting at home talking on the phone

Cons: Button layout is difficult. Better keep the instruction book handy.

I've owned an older KDC (one with a rear mounted USB cable connection and remote AUX connection) model for about more than five years. This one is an update to that....and BOY is it an update. The Bluetooth connects quickly, the built-in amp is powerful, it connects to my phone quickly, it works with Spotify, iHeart Radio and even Pandora. My only gripe is that the display color separation of the display LCD and Keys are not that intuitive like the old KDC. So I give it 95.9 or 4.5 stars.

Wonderful product this is my second purchase of the Kenwood KDC-702. Fit perfectly into a 1997 Mercedes E320. With the choice of the many colors for different functions, 2 USB cords, all the popular internet services spotify, Iheart, etc, bluetooth, phone directory, microphone for hands free and on and on made this a great purchase. Crutchfield's support, wiring harness, keys (removal tool) for the old stock Mercedes radio made this an easy install. The radio is great for the price and Crutchfield is a great company to order what you need.

This is a review for the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X702. I upgraded from a great Alpine deck from 2004 that still worked well but I really wanted to have hands free bluetooth calling. The deck was put into a 94 Mustang GT with a Ford Racing GT40X supercharged 302 crate engine with over 500 hp. Needless to say, the engine is quite loud and I was hoping the microphone would pick up my voice more than the engine. I was pleasantly surprised. People say they can actually hear me clearly on the phone now while driving this car instead of immediately saying, "oooh, you driving the mustang?" The car is setup with 2 Rockford Fosgate Power amps. One 4-channel for the fronts/rears & one mono block putting over 1900RMS to two 12" Alpine Type R's. The higher pre-out voltage did actually make a difference in clarity and richness in sound. This was another plus I was hoping for. It easily connects to my Samsung Galaxy S9+ for audio streaming. The only downside I can see so far is that the HD radio sometimes seems to come in very strong and then weaken at times. I haven't had time to mess around with the HD radio settings yet to see if I can correct this. Overall great single din deck. I'm very pleased with it's performance.

Good unit not so hot reception

N from NJ on 8/10/2018

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The AM and FM radio reception is disappointing. I'd give it 2.5 stars. I listen to 2 FM stations and 1 AM station. I can get a decent signal about 40% of the time, mostly before lunch, later in the day it can't pull in the stations that well. I live in east coast suburbia. Reception with this unit is not as good as my stock Toyota JBL tuner was. Disappointing. Crutchfield said to try antenna amplifier but don't be too hopeful. Have not tried yet. Using my phone as source over Bluetooth sounds great. Glad I chose a radio with better blue tooth capabilities. In addition, the bluetooth connects with phone within a couple seconds after entering the car which is very convenient. Phone conversations are clear and easy. Blue tooth seems to slow my phone down but that is another issue. The controls are okay once you are familiar with them. Some people have complained about the "source" button and having to go through each choice serially to get to the one you want. It is what it is, but not a deal breaker. The faster you tap the button, the faster you get to what you want. Installation was very easy. I paid for the harness set up service and everything was plug and play. I had no power to the unit on initial power up. Called Crutchfield and they zeroed in on a blown fuse in the engine compartment. I was up and running within 5 minutes of calling.

Pros: -Great sound from all sources -Excellent sound via Bluetooth, connects easily -Good controls, works well with Android based phone -Phone conversations easy and clear sounding -Good display -Very easy installation

Cons: AM/FM reception is disappointing. Stock radio was better.

Excellent deck. i haven't owned a Kenwood Deck Since the late 90's and boy have i been missing out. i was going to go with an indash dvd receiver but opted for this instead and do not regret it for a minute. as always Crutchfield's support team is one of a kind! answered all my questions for this product and made my decision easier Although i have to admit getting this tuned right is a challenge. I installed it a week ago and am still trying to fine tune all the settings for my set-up..

Pros: excellent features,

Cons: no remote or option to buy on Crutchfield. had to buy elsewhere.

Installed this in my 2006 Honda S2000. Sound quality is great, and phone calls are very clear on both ends even with the convertible top down at in town speeds. Definitely should have upgraded the door speakers at the same time, but that will be next on my list. The head unit itself barely fit in the stock stereo location, and the stock stereo door closes but it is a very tight fit. One complaint is the size of the buttons on the face. They are extremely small due to all the writing on the face. All the writing is for the features of the stereo like it's some kind of nascar ad. Due to the small buttons i have to take my eyes off the road for a quick glance which is unacceptable. All single din stereos appear to all have this issue. My second complaint is I wish it had voice dialing so again I don't have to take my eyes off the road to make a call.

Pros: Great sound and call quality.

Cons: Buttons not designed for safe usage while driving.

Great sound, poor interface

Daniel from Albuquerque, NM on 6/7/2018

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The stereo delivered on everything that was advertised and was a huge step up from the 18 year-old stock system in my 4Runner. The old system was definitely the weak link because now the stock speakers and sub sound fantastic. There are a lot of settings that you can tweak to get the sound just right. For instance, the system doesn't stop at just fading and balancing the speakers, you can adjust for the type of vehicle you have and the amount of speakers. That being said I'm knocking off two stars: The menu system is not intuitive by any stretch of the imagination. You'll definitely need to refer to the manual and just play with it for a while. Also, the lighting for the keys directly under the display is terrible. No two ways about it. So much so that it is problematic at night. If you listen to the radio a lot and use those preset buttons you're going to have a bad time. I'll be keeping this because the cons of the system don't really apply to me, but I wouldn't get it for my parents.

Pros: awesome sound and tune-abilty. For those that are willing and want to dig into sound optimization, this is fantastic, if a bit cumbersome. Many input option: bluetooth, aux jack, usb.

Cons: absolutely terrible user interface. face buttons are extremely small and poorly lit.

Would be a great receiver, if it worked. Bluetooth and USB are DOA. Bluetooth gives HF error 68 and "please wait" when trying to access menu. Kenwood support is the worst, no empathy and no answers other than take it to some dudes house they call a service center. They do not even have these units on the floor in their call center to test customer issues. Everything they do is from a knowledge base. The sound is amazing and Iphone audio is super crisp when using USB. Crutchfield as usual is awesome and I will get my replacement and update my review. Aside from the unit not working the only other gripe I have is that the backlight key colors change when you enter the menu. You can turn off this function for everything except for the keys. Why?????

Pros: Looks nice. Sounds great.

Cons: HF error and unreaponsive device on port 2 right out of box. Wasted time to install it so tight and perfect.

Worthy upgrade

Thomas from Johns Creek, GA on 3/17/2018

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This KDC-X702 system was purchased as an upgrade to an older Kenwood KDC-BT852HD from 2013, installed in a 2007 Kenworth T600 semi truck. I believe the predecessor was actually introduced in 2011, so already a little behind when I got it. The main reason for upgrading was bluetooth streaming had gotten sketchy. Not seeing a whole lot of clues from the internet brain trust, I decided to swap in newer tech in hopes of curing bluetooth problems. I mainly listen to a 50/50 split of SiriusXM and bluetooth streaming (Spotify and some other apps). I am also a fan of HD radio and use it from time to time when I'm in an area with broadcast stations I like. I have it paired to a Samsung S8+ Android phone. My summary review is this: If you're a tech geek and/or audiophile, the 702 is a worthy upgrade. The audio quality and features just work that much better than even Kenwood's predecessor or lesser models. If you're just an ordinary end user that likes to tune in and make phone calls while driving, and doesn't care much about the advanced features, this unit will probably frustrate you and cause buyer remorse. This is a 5 star system with a 1 star user interface, resulting in a 3 star rating from me.

Pros: 1. Overall sound quality is better. The 702 has more sound shaping controls than the law allows. If you can't get this thing to sound right, you're not trying hard enough. 2. Apt-x streaming brings bluetooth source audio to a whole new level. Subscription Spotify and high bitrate MP3 content is amazing. 3. FM radio reception is substantially better on the 702 than it's predecessor. 4. Secondary controls are a tiny bit more intuitive, not requiring as many return trips to the

Cons: 1. I want my 3 line display and large size clock back! The 1.5 line display on the 702 disappoints on this feature laden unit. 2. Obviously the reason for the crappy 1.5 line display is to make room for all the extra buttons (presets). 3. Hopefully some day before I get old and die, some company will produce a bluetooth/networked device that is not created on the premise that it is the center of your bluetooth universe. 4. The remote control app is terrible. Half the control

This radio sounds great. I have been in serious need of a new radio for my truck. I was running my phone through the tape deck with an adapter (yeah, I know...) AND there has been a CD stuck in the unit for about 2 + years. I really started to suffer when the tape deck started failing. Anyway I knew I had to make the move so I looked into it for long time and decided to get the KDC-X702. I haven't put a radio in a vehicle for close to 16 years, so I was wondering how things have changed. I was happy to find out that Crutchfield still has great customer service and following a couple calls set me up for success. I really enjoy the hands free calling and Blue Tooth. The HD radio has great clarity and the extra stations are getting more play than I thought I'd give them. I rescued my CD from the factory unit and gave it a run in the new stereo.. Sounded perfect. All in all I'm very happy.

Pros: Easy to install. BT, HD radio, very bright screen.

Cons: There are a lot of small buttons.

RUNS VERY HOT!!! READ!

I love this radio, its looks and its features are excellent for the price (and I am a long time Pioneer fan). BUT! I noticed at mid to high volumes (23+) the audio becomes terrible and garbled and it begins to sound as if the speakers are blown. I have determined that this is an overheating issue with this radio's internal amplifier. The stock heat sink gets wicked hot to the touch (will burn you in an instant). I have added a much larger finned heat sink on top of the stock one with some arctic silver thermal paste in between. This has stopped this radio from overheating and the aforementioned audio problems no longer happen. This is mod is a MUST if you are going to keep this radio and listen to BT Audio, USB, or other high quality sources at mid to high volumes for 15 minutes or more. It doesn't happen with FM/AM radio sources. The only other alternative fix is going to be using an external amplifier with this radio.

Pros: Excellent features, very nice looking radio, easily readable display, great sound (when its not overheating).

Cons: Radio reception seems worse then my old Pioneer and this radios internal amplifier runs extremely hot. The factory heat sink/cooling is lacking, this radio can be driven to the point of overheating. Must add additional cooling or use an external amplifier.

Unfortunately there were multiple issues with this unit. (1) The initial sound levels upon start up produce way to much bass when using sub woofers. I had to turn the bass down to -15 before you could clearly hear the lyrics. (2) The sound level adjustments are very UN-user friendly. They reference #'s which at first it seamed like frequency numbers but they go from 60, 80, 100 to odd ball #'s like 1.4. (3) The color options for the screen are nice but it is not as simple as just picking a color. Even though I chose red when you enter a menu the screen turns bright white. Apparently you need to go into other setting to change that. Things like this become a nuisance in the case you have work done on your vehicle and the battery gets disconnected. Way to many things to reset. (4) While trying to get the sound adjusted it suddenly sounded like my door speakers were blown. Which the door speakers are 2 year old Polk audio speakers and sounded great prior to this receiver. At a decent volume I tried different modes like CD, Radio ect. The same held true for all of them. What I did figure out was if I shut the truck off and restarted it I could play the music at volume for a minute or two then the sound would fall apart. I was already frustrated with this unit by now but this sealed the deal that there was something wrong with it and it had to go. I have never been a fan of Kenwood and this confirms it for me.

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This Kenwood KDC-X702is the fourth head unit I've purchased from Crutchfield in the past twelve years and as always, the purchase experience and the customer serverice was great. The first three units I purchased were Alpines and they were all great receivers. When it was time to upgrade the receiver in my commuter I automatically set the search filter to only include Alpine. My needs were simple, I wanted to be able to be able to easily connect my IPone with Bluetooth or USB I wanted to access music files and Pandora as simply as possible. I wanted to make nice clear, hands free calls with little effort. Lastly, I wanted my USB connections at the rear of the unit. I really don't like having wires strung all over my dashboard, so I find having the USB connection in the rear is the best option for me. I then typically replace the old 12v or cigarette lighter with a USB port for a nice clean factory look. I wasn't having any luck finding an Alpine that had the rear USB feature anymore. I decided to widen my search to include Kenwood and Pioneer. I immediately came across the KDC-X702 along with another Kenwood that seemed to have everything I was looking for and much more. I received my order along with the wiring harness and receiver den adapter provide by Crutchfield within the three day as promised. I had the unit and USB port installed in under two hours and could not be happier with my purchase.

Pros: Overall nicely put together unit, packed with features. 2 year warranty.

Cons: Haven't really found anything yet.

Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 3.0: The Kenwood KDC-X702 is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (ver. 3.0) allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

  • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
  • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Kenwood KDC-X702. Visit Kenwood's Support Site for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled phones.

SSP/USB/NFC Pairing: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Kenwood KDC-X702 without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. You can even pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5+) or Android smartphone (running Kenwood Music Play App) by simply connecting it to the Kenwood head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display. Android (OS 4.0+) smartphones that have Near Field Communication (NFC) pair simply by touching the Android device's NFC tag to the NFC tag on the head unit's front-panel.

  • Dual Phone Connection: Thanks to the Dual Phone Connection feature, two Bluetooth-enabled phones can remain connected to the Kenwood receiver. This means you can an answer an incoming call from either phone from the head unit. Also, both of your phone's contact lists are downloaded to the receiver. To make a call from one of the phones using the Kenwood receiver, you simply have to select Phone 1 or Phone 2 on the head unit's front-panel.
  • Music Mix: The new Music Mix feature allows five Bluetooth audio source devices to be connected to the Kenwood receiver at one time, so you can switch between Bluetooth playback sources a lot easier and quicker. While "BT Audio" source is selected on the head unit, you can simply press the music playback button on your connected Bluetooth source devices to switch between devices and begin music playback. However, you cannot stream audio from two different Bluetooth audio source devices at the same time or combine music libraries or playlists from two different connected devices.
Note: You can pair up to five Bluetooth-enabled devices to the Kenwood head unit. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The controls of the KDC-X702 can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone (featuring adjustable gain), so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

  • Answering a Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the head unit's front-panel controls, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call immediately or after 1-30 seconds. The KDC-X702 also supports the Call Waiting function, so you can answer another incoming call while suspending the current call you are on. Your compatible cell-phone must also support this feature.
  • Dialing a Number: Using the KDC-X702, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:
    • Enter Phone #: Allows you to directly dial a phone number up to 32 digits from the head unit's control knob or remote control.
    • Preset Dial: Allows you to register up to 6 phone numbers for quick dialing. The preset numbers can be accessed from the head unit's front-panel controls.
    • Phone Book: You can download phone book data from your mobile phone to the KDC-X702. You can then dial a contact within the phonebook from the head unit's front-panel controls. Contacts are categorized as Home, Office, Mobile, Other, or General.
    • Call History: The Call History is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls.
    • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone.

External Mic: The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the volume level, noise cancellation, and echo cancellation of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 10' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Kenwood KDC-X702 supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or audio player. You are able to stream your stored music library on your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, as well as music apps downloaded on your smartphone to the Kenwood KDC-X702 for playback.

  • AAC & aptX Codecs: In addition to support for the standard SBC Bluetooth audio codec, the KDC-X702 offers support for AAC and aptX codecs for higher quality audio streaming from select Apple & Android devices. By supporting AAC, the KDC-X702 offers better audio performance of the music streamed from your Apple iPod, iPhone, or iPad. aptX audio coding technology provides even better sound quality with lossless, CD-quality streaming for compatible aptX-compatible smartphones, like many Android smartphones with OS 4.0+.
  • Advanced Music Browsing: In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the KDC-X702 lets you browse your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, etc. (AVRCP 1.4 phones only; which includes Android 4.0+ and iPhone 5.0+).
  • Song/Artist Information: The head unit will also display your stored music and music app's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (not compatible with all apps).
Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Siri Eyes Free Control: When paired and connected to an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth, the Kenwood KDC-X702 has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. Simply press-and-hold down on the head unit's Answer Button to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the KDC-X702 and its microphone. You even can ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Siri. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

Note: The head unit's display will only indicate hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the Kenwood KDC-X702; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

Android & iPhone Integration

Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0) Connectivity: The Kenwood KDC-X702's rear-panel USB ports let you connect select Android (OS 4.1-7.1.2) smartphones that support AOA 2.0 for music playback. Kenwood does not guarantee operation with all Android devices, regardless of operating system. There are two Android AOA 2.0 modes to choose from based on what content you want to listen to and how you want to control it.
  • Hand Mode: The Kenwood KDC-X702 supports Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0), which lets you connect your Android smartphone (OS 4.1-7.1.2) to the KDC-X702's rear-panel USB ports and listen to stored music and music apps from your Android device through the Kenwood head unit. You'll be able to control basic playback functions such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track. Other advanced music navigation will still be done from your Android smartphone's touchscreen. In this mode, the head unit will not display song/artist information; only "Hand Mode" will show up on display. You'll continue to view song/artist information from the Android device's touchscreen. You'll also still be able to access other functions and applications from your Android smartphone's touchscreen, while listening to music through the head unit. If you make a call or answer a call from your smartphone while listening to music in this mode, the music will pause until you are finished with the call and then start back up again.
  • Browse Mode (via Kenwood Music Play App): Downloading the Kenwood Music Play app onto your Android (OS 4.1-7.1.2) smartphone with AOA 2.0 support not only allows you to listen to stored music from your Android device through the Kenwood CD receiver connected via USB, but it also lets you browse your Android smartphone's music library from the head unit's front-panel controls. You can browse your store music library by Playlist, Artist, Song, Album, or Genre. The contents of a Playlist or Category can be searched alphabetically or numerically; you can even skip through the stored music files in specific increments (0.5/1/5/10%). You can also control Play/Pause and Previous/Next track from the head unit. In addition, the head unit will display song/artist information. No. The stereo itself has a built-in CD player but it does not have the ability to connect to an external CD player (or Changer).

I heard that Excelon don't have true 5volt, and their would be a update to using tidal true CD quality sound on your USB pro audio app from the play store soon?

A
I been running the X702 in my truck with 2'amps, a 12" sun and kenwood x1800p components and I would say I noticed a huge difference from my 4v x300 and this deck, so I have no doubts this is a 5v output because these amps are running a new level of output they never previously had

Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget.
