Very disappointed.. Cant handle increased bass, highs are good if you like a lot of treble. When you turn up the bass it distorts, A big let down for a Kenwood product Installed in a regular cab 2000 Chevy Silverado

Pros: easy install with Crutchfield instructions and kits

Mediocre Speakers

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I replaced my factory speakers with these hoping to get better sound. I didn't opt for an expensive model or expect miracles, but these things completely underwhelmed me. They have very clear mid and highs, but are pretty horrible at lows, making an unsettling pounding sound if I turn up the volume to a medium-high level...and that's with 0dB bass boost, loudness off etc. All in all much worse than factory. If you're considering these speakers, save your money and keep factory, or splurge for something a bit more expensive. You ears will thank you.

Pros: Decent mid, clean good highs.

Cons: Horrible low freq, turning even moderate music into an annoying pounding sound.

Good speakers, but for the price you get what you pay for. The highs are good, but the bass sounds like it is pounding through the speakers. I had to turn down the bass setting on my factory radio. I am planning to replace them with Boston Acoustics which I had before in the past.

Pros: Decent sound and good highs

Cons: Too much bass. The sound does not come together with the highs as they should.

I just bought a set of four of these for my fiancee's 2006 Civic 4 door. Wow was I impressed. Yes you can go with the statment anything is better then stock speakers but these sound great. Have a clean sounding bass, not the annoying panel rattling bass. Great Highs and lows, mids are ok. The warm is ok. For spending under $100 for all four speakers you can't go wrong. I would buy these over and over again.

Pros: Great Highs Great Lows Clean Bass

Cons: Warmth

Replacement for blown OEM front door speakers on a 3500 Silverado Quad-Cab. Install was a breeze, and they sound better than the factory. Not using an additional amp, so didn't need anything stronger. I'd definitely recommend them for a quick, value replacement.

I have been doing installations for over 30 yrs. This was recommended by a Crutchfield adviser for a factory replacement speaker. Well sound quality is poor, I cannot even say it is a good factory replacement. Do Not waste your time with this. Spend a few extra $$ for something better. Ended up costing me time and money to try it out. I should not have listened to the Adviser, but then Crutchfield has not steered me wrong before. I had to pay return shipping for BAD ADVICE.

Pros: Crutchfield includes everything to make istallation easy.

Cons: The speaker is Junk.

Good Cost Speakers

These speakers were at a good cost, Had front blown door speaker. Sounds better than factory, but still stress about the bass. I have to keep my factory radio at -3 for bass or i think it will blow the speaker. Besides that they have crystal clear highs. Along with other reviewers the bass is terrible, Had to upgrade my rear deck to make up for lack of bass.

Pros: The highs

Cons: The lows

For the money, i could not argue. I ordered these on a Thursday morning, they shipped that night & i would've had them in the mail by the following Tuesday, but UPS left my package in Dallas, so it was the following day before i got them. Still super quick! I could've got these speakers elsewhere for about $10 cheaper, but i knew my Forester needed an adapter to hook the speakers with. My current ones happened to be soldered.. Crutchfield included the harness at no additional charge! So far they are fantastic!

Pros: Easy, quick install. Super glad crutchfield gave me the adapter harness to fit my vehicle, otherwise i would've been up a creek. Compared to the blown stock speakers i had in my Forry, these are fantastic!

Cons: Nothin yet!

Great benfit of ordering from Crutchfield is the support in the way of pre order consultation and getting what you need with the order. Decent upgrade from my OEM speakers. Not a ton of bass, but sounds detailed and "tight" with my new Kenwood KDC-X395 head unit. Mid-range and treble definitely sound more articulated. If you've got a '02 Subaru Outback, make sure you have a Torx 10 driver to separate the OEM speakers from the black mounting brackets in the doors. you might have to pry the old speakers loose from the brackets with a screwdriver also.

Used these to replace stock rear speakers in a 2006 Saturn Ion. They fit in easily and the directions were spot on. Sound quality is a lot better than the previous speakers as the clarity of the music is 100x better. The bass leaves a lot to be desired, but I am using a stock deck and no sub so I don't expect much either. They have good sound quality for a compact car and I have no complaints.

You definitely get what you pay for here. I bought a pair of these to replace a blown factory speaker in my car. So these are definitely better than a blown speaker, but by no means are they a high quality speaker. At $50 for a pair, it was about as low as it gets on crutchfield. The sound is solid for now. They don't rattle, but like most of the other reviews say, they also don't handle bass all that well. I still have the factory receiver so it's not a problem. I will be soon upgrading to a better receiver at which point I will probably replace these Kenwood speakers with something better. But for now I'm happy with the money that I spent on these.

Thought they would sound better than my stock speakers, but unfortunately they sound more distorted at the same level of volume as i would be with the stock speakers that i have had in the truck for over 5 years. As mentioned in other reviews, don't expect a lot of bass from these speakers. I installed a subwoofer knowing I'd need it for good solid lows. These speakers do an excellent job of handling the mids and highs and make for a solid total system. I am very pleased with them, much better than the OEM speakers. The mounting hardware did not exactly fit the speakers so I had to do a little modification to get them anchored, no big deal.

You'd think these would be better than the factory installed speakers for a 2000 Subaru. Wrong!!! Had I not bent the connections and already thrown out my original speakers, I would have returned these. Awful. Yes, they have great highs and mids....they're amazing. However, it's not that I listen to music with a lot of base or anything, but these speakers have ABSOLUTELY NO base whatsoever. I mean, it actually sounds as if any base sounds in your music have just been removed. Very affordable, but you'd be better off not even replacing your original speakers....no matter WHAT car you own.

I ordered these speakers because I needed to replace the front door speakers in my 2003 Toyota Sienna XLE with the JBL sound system. The Crutchfield website made it easy to locate a set that was compatible with my existing system and would require minimal installation. The speakers were installed without a hitch and sound great. Compared to the factory speakers, the Kenwoods project a much more voluminous sound. I've found myself listening to less talk radio and more music to fully enjoy the sound! The only issue I have is a slight buzz that I occasionally hear from one of the speakers during the most bass-heavy music. I'm not sure if it's a function of the speaker or any vibration in the speaker housing, and no one else in the car hears it, so I can't confirm that it is a problem with the speaker per se.

2011 HONDA FIT factory speakers were better

2011 Honda Fit Sport

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Was looking to replace factory speakers on my 2011 Honda Fit. They weren't horrible...just lacked a little more bass. I looked here and found that these Kenwoods were highly rated by 158 people (at the time of my search). I did read that most said they lacked bass and this is due to their size. I figured they couldn't be any worse, right? Well, I'm uninstalling these as soon as I get back from a long over due vacation. They are worse then the factory speakers. They have much less bass. They are very clear sounding, but absolutely no kick. I'm going back to my originals and may add a powered sub and see what that does for me. The Chevrolet Equinox/Saturn Vue brackets that Crutchfiled sent do not fit on the 2011 Honda Fit!!! After some thought, I decided not to destroy the factory speakers and use their brackets (as some on the internet had suggested). The free brackets that came with these speakers do not come with screws. I bought some self-tapping sheet metal screws and drilled them into the doors. I then used black zip ties to join the speakers to the brackets. I got that idea off the net as well and it worked nicely. The speaker wire adapters Crutchfield provided did work as advertised...no problems there. I'm just not happy at all with these Kenwoods and will be returning them soon.

Bought 4 of these to replace the stock speakers in my truck. In my opinion the stock speakers had a better sound than these. They do have better high's than the stock by far, but the mid and low's are not as good as the stocks. With a sub for the bass it sounds ok, but if you don't plan on adding a sub, don't bother with these. Had I not ruined one of my speakers removing it from the truck, I would have rather returned them and upgraded.

These are not "high-end" speakers, but they perform well for the money. If you are looking for a "mid-level" performance speaker you can't go wrong with these Kenwoods.

These were replacements for the front-door speakers that failed in a 2004 Subaru Outback (without stock tweeters) and they are pretty good, but don't expect a huge improvement over the stock speakers. To my surprise these Kenwoods don't produce bass as well as the stock speakers, but the highs are much better. If your original rear speakers still work you should be okay. The sound gets slightly better as the volume increases-but only to a point and then they start to distort. I did not use baffles or Dynamat so maybe that could have helped somewhat. Overall these are a good purchase considering the low price.

Speakers fit readily into front door of 2002 Camaro Z28 convertible with Monsoon sound package. Sound is good for the price. Original speakers were bi-amped - you should mark the wires for woofer and tweeter as attached to original speaker and then connect only the woofer wires to the new speaker - - still had good sound including highs after installation this way -- attaching both sets of wires as I originally did was not good -- too little impedence for the amp.

THese are great for stock replacements, wasn't looking for a significant upgrade.

Overall these speakers sound far better than the OEM. I think they have adequate bass for what I listen to. Others may expect the frame to rattle when they listen to music. If so think "subwoofer" otherwise these sound great for the price. The mounting holes lined up well for the install. NOTE: the supplied harness adapters do not work with the rear speakers in the 2003 (maybe others as well). You have to modify the OEM but the Crutchfield instructions give you a couple of ways to do it.

Everything installed as advertised in my 2000 LHS. I did have to slightly modify the support rings to fit the original screw holes but that was no big deal. The speakers perform better than the original (infinity system) speakers. Other reviewers cut down the bass perfomance, but for me it sounds better than the ones they replaced. While it doesn't "rattle the windows", the amount of bass produced is more than adequate for good listening.

Well what can you say, for the price these speakers are decent. I got another deal that cut the cost of these in half and I happily paid that amount for these speakers. If you are building a budget system to replace a factory system, and the price is right, these speakers will hit the spot. Speakers are often get what you pay for, and these are no exception. They can definitely handle much louder output than factory, I'd say they go almost twice as loud as my stock speakers without crackling/distorting.

Speakers = 4 and Crutchfield service = 5 I bought these from Crutchfield to replace bad (blown) door speakers in 2002 GMC Sierra, reg cab. High and mid range response excellent, though they have less bass than factory speakers. However, factory speakers had gone bad, buzzing at even medium volume. Crutchfield is the best re: order response, price, wiring harness (fit perfectly) and step-by-step installation guide (which saved me $100). Replaced both speakers in about an hour. Sound quality much improved over factory, if heavy bass not needed, but what can you expect from 6 1/2". Will probably buy a pair of speakers to replace the ones at head level in cab, and, when budget allows, a subwoofer as well.

Received two pairs as a christmas present from the wife to replace my stock speakers in a 2006 Honda Pilot EX-L. As expected the "stock speakers" were cheaply made Alpine's. Can't beat the "bang for the buck" factor in these Kenwoods - made a big, noticeable difference in the sound quality out of the stock head unit. As usual, Crutchfield instructions were on the mark in doing the install myself. Took me close to 30 minutes (taking my time) to do the front, and about 20 minutes to do the rear door speaker locations. Install was straight forward with no surprises. In addition, I installed Dynamat's in the four speaker locations - another good item to install. Overall, I am very happy with these Kenwoods

When I bought these speakers with the rest of my new system, I wasn't expecting an incredibly huge upgrade from the factory speakers, but at least something noticeable. When I got everything tuned in and set up, I was not so much surprised to find that these speakers in my front doors and rear deck were by far the weakest part of the system in my 2000 Monte Carlo SS. As other reviewers have said, the bass response is abysmal and at high volumes, the sound quality takes a dive because of this. It's almost embarrassing because besides the fact my 12" Infinity Reference sub hits incredibly hard, you can still hear the distortion in the highs and mids from these speakers, and you can hear the woofers in these speakers bottoming out, producing tinny bass notes that mix in with the bass from the actual sub. Even with the HPF on my receiver set to 125Hz, I still get a ton of very sloppy bass through these speakers at anything but the most mild volumes. A decent budget replacement if you absolutely need speakers, but you can do much better, and if you're trying to upgrade fully-working factory speakers, look to spend a little more on a higher quality pair. The speaker does fairly well with mids, and highs thanks to the tweeter, but the distortion and tinny bass ruins it.

I am not an audiophile so I ignored their sage advice and I have been disappointed ever since. Buyers who own a 1999-2003 body style Chevy/GMC Silverado/Sierra Extended cab truck! These speakers DO NOT FIT. I relied on the "oufit my car option" when buying new front speakers and wanted to stay fairly inexpensive in price. I found these speakers and decided to try them. Poor decision. There is absolutley NO Bass at all in these speakers. They are a little more clear than my factory 11 year old speakers but that's about it. I was dissapointed in the speakers combined with my new Clarion CZ100 head unit in my 2000 GMC Sierra Extended Cab. I used the template provided on the back of the speaker box to determine where to drill my 4 holes that mount these speakers. I realized I could only use the top two holes leaving the bottom two holes exposed in the factory cut-out speaker hole in the door. No matter how I tried adjusting this template I would always end up with only 2 out of 4 holes to contact metal. Once I mounted the speaker using the top two holes, and re-installed the door panel, the factory speaker grill and cut out in my door wouldn't fit over the speaker which resulted in a half-inch gap all the way from the middle of my door down on the front side of each driver and passenger door. Spend 50 more bucks and buy Polk.

I purchased these speakers along with the Kenwood Component speakers. I used these speakers in the rear hatch of my sports car just to fill in the sound with my components. My Kenwood head-unit is powering these speakers. Now when i put the fader just for the rears to see how the speakers sound alone, they sound much better than "MY" car stock speakers (some reviewers here state that OEM sounds better, this may be true depending on what kind of speakers your vehicle came with from the factory). Highs and Mids are very good with no distortion at high levels. I agree with the other reviewers that there is little to no base, and distorts a bit when a low note hits at high volumes. However, because these are just used to fill in the sound with my front components i have the lows/bass frequency completely turned off for the rears. I highly recommend these for stock "replacement" or when purchasing a component sets for the rears. If you want something with a bit more PUNCH, save up and get something else.

2008 Civic EX Coupe - Fits Rear Deck

Received the speakers with the universal adapter supplied by Crutchfield, which is impossible to install. I don't know why Crutchfield says don't fit but they do with the right adapter. I used a Scosche SAHC634 adapter that indicates front door only, but they drop right into place of the rear deck of my 2008 Honda Civic EX Coupe. Installation didn't go that smoothly. You have to bend the outer rim of the speaker inwards with pliers so the stock mounting screw can be used to fasten the whole assembly back into place. Now they're modified and not returnable, but for the price, so what? Maybe that's why Crutchfield says they don't fit??? BTW, they sound better than the stock speakers because of the added tweeter which the stock speakers don't have.

I purchased this speaker to replace the factory door speaker in my Jeep GC 1997 and at first the sound was nice and thought it was a good speaker. Until I listened to a song I had on my iPod called Pump up the Jam. The base kicks were horrible and in no way reflected the original sound. I think the problem is with the Jeep Infinity Gold system, they rely on a different speaker in the back doors than the front and the amps treat them different. Not a good speaker for this application and recommend a higher quality speaker for the back doors.

Kenwood speakers were chosen as a low cost replacement for the original speakers, which were completely spent after nine years of use. Installation was easy thanks to the comprehensive instructions and Nissan Wiring Harness provided by Crutchfield. The Kenwoods have universal mounting holes which lined up perfectly with the factory door mounting bracket. These speakers are a huge improvement in sound quality since the old speakers had little usable output. Even with new speakers, the sound in this truck is only mediocre since I am still using the original radio/CD and the truck is fairly noisy. Next steps are to replace the OEM radio with one that has both USB and aux inputs. I'm strongly leaning towards the Kenwood KCD-MP345U since it meets my requirements, its cost is low, and it should be well matched with the new speakers.

Installed a set of these in the front doors of my 2002 ram with the included adaptor plate. They are running through the factory amp which has a filter on it so I am only receiving mid and lows through these speakers. They do sound nice though since I still have 3 3.5s in the dash. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a quality replacement at an awesome price. I would not recommend them for the back doors though, when I went to install a pair the old speakers were only 3 screw and I could not find an installation that suited me for optimal performance. Luckily my back speakers were manufactured with better quality than the front ones and they still are kicking. Buy these now, upgrade later when you can afford it. It's what I did.

Recently purchased a set of these for my '01 Legacy for the rear. 1st, Crutchfield does an AMAZING job with supplying all the necessary parts to make install of a pair within 20 min. I purchased them because my rear speakers were shot completely. I will agree with alot of others here, they reproduce highs and SOME mids nicely, but the lower side of the woofer isn't what it should be. However, for the price its a good deal. Personally, I would spend a little more if you want something that gives you EVERYTHING over a factory speaker...something in the $69-119 range/pair. These are good entry level replacements.

The extremely knowledgeable and helpful Crutchfield representative advised me that these were the preferred speakers to substitute for the JBL speakers in my Toyota Sienna 2001 sound system (the left front door speaker diaphram had ruptured). The installations instructions were fine, and they installed without undue problems. However...these speakers do not even come close to reproducing the base range of the JBL's...the underperformance is startling and dismaying...previously enjoyable CD's sound like they are being played through a 2" transistor radio speaker from the 1950's, and boosting the base as high as it can go does NOT make a substantial difference. I will have to purchase other speakers and re-install.

I was excited to get rid of my stock stereo speakers and replace them with these beauties. I was looking at some Polk Audio speakers before these and decided to get these because of the competitive price. Don't do what I did. After I installed these speakers they were a noticeable improvement from stock speakers as far as highs and high-mid audio. However they sound like they are playing underwater. By that i mean that when i play music the front speakers really pound out the sound and these just sound like that guy over the microphone at the airport. Now with that in mind, I did do the install myself so i may have messed something up but if your looking for a cheap upgrade to get better highs and high-mids but loose all lowend then these are perfect. Keep in mind these are component speakers not all round speakers. You will most likely need a sub if you want to get lows. You will have to spend more than this to get great sound quality.

Let me start by saying that Crutchfields service is great, fast shipping and awesome products. Next on to the speakers themselves, these speakers have super highs and great mid range quality. Where they are lacking is in the low department my original OEM bumped harder in bass than these do. Understand though these are only 6.5's and you cant expect much from that... For me though I have a built in 8" woofer in my 06' Civic rear deck for bass and it balances everything out smooth. I bought them to replace both doors and rear deck speakers also have a built in factory amp to give them alittle more push that they needed. All in all GREAT quality product from Kenwood and service from Crutchfield.

I replaced the 4 15w oem speakers with these Kenwood KFC-1662S 6-1/2" 3 way 35w speakers and made sure the speakers were absolutely air tight in the doors (any air escaping the mounting holes or elsewhere would degrade the bass). I instantly noticed an improvement in clarity in the upper mids to highs that the oem's lacked. However, surprisingly at normal listening levels, with bass to max, they didn't have much mid range punch at all in spite of the advertised frequency response (35-22k Hz). After spending about a total of 10-15 minutes every day I got in the car for 2 weeks trying to adjust the Alpine CDE-102 receiver settings in full range mode along with a Alpine KTP-445(45W x 4) power pack, I still didn't get the full range I wanted. These speakers could go really loud without distortion but there's very little mid range punch and the little bass they do produce quickly gets lots when you're on the road. I was expecting the full range sound to at least equal the oem's. They didn't even though they used a larger magnet and are 35w vs 15w stock. The upper mids to highs are crystal clear though. I ended up adding a sub to round off the sound for more bass and punch (got a MTX X ThunderLink XT110P from Crutchfield). Now things are sounding much much better. So the bottom line is that they sound very clear and crisp and the price is great. Just do not expect to run these without a sub if you want a full range sound.

Wow - I have a camper trailer that the dealer had installed a pair of Pioneer speakers in to replace the factory units just before we took delivery. They were too heavy to be mounted in the 1/8" thick ceiling paneling and the screws were falling out. After looking at the problem, it was obvious we needed lighter weight speakers and these Kenwoods fit the bill. The Pioneer speakers the dealer installed were 4-1/2 lbs *each* and these Kenwoods wieghed 3 lbs for the pair while they were still in the box! Don't let the light weight fool you, these Kenwoods sound ten times better than the Pioneer TS-MR2040's the dealer installed.

The rear speakers in the car (pioneer 2 way) completely overwhelm these and I can't even hear them. I would send them back but it's too much trouble to pull them back out. Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Installed these (with the 4 inch Kenwood sport versions for the rear doors) in my 06 Subaru Impreza paired with the Clarion CZ500 receiver. My impression is this: too much bass for a speaker. I had two sets of infinities (front and rear) with my Jeep and they sounded awesome. Great mids and highs, with just the right amount of bass pushed out by the built in amp on the Sony MEX BT3700 receiver. And it did not matter if I switch from preset eq 1 to preset eq 2 on the unit, the sound "flowed" the way one would expect, despite the music being played. Granted I went from a 2-way speaker, to a 3-way speaker with the Kenwoods, but even placing the bass at a -4 setting on the custom eq setting is too much bass being pushed out for many of the simple rock, or classic rock tunes I listen too. It seems to damper the music and my ride to and from work. So I do not mean to offend anyone, but I just do not see where some reviewers are claiming the bass is too low. Personally, I would wait for Crutchfield to have another sale on the Infinity, Alpine, Boston's, or Polks and buy those instead. To me, music is about the overall sound, not the thump, or bump, I get from these Kenwoods. But if your into that, then maybe these paired with the right receiver are for you.

I bought 2 sets of these to replace the original (totally trashed) speakers in my 96 Grand Cherokee. I'm very happy I did. With a little bit of power (not sure how much the factory amp puts out) they deliver very good clarity, pretty good volume, and the bass is a bit more than I expected from a 6 1/2" speaker. The free adapters and harnesses from Crutchfield made installation a breeze, give or take a few door clips....I didn't buy the tool. Next up will be a woofer and I'll bet set!

Great Speakers for your money

Really easy to install, I didn't even need to use the wires that Crutchfield gave me for free. I have an aftermarket headunit that has bass boost. My old stock speakers would start distorting and cracking after maybe getting it past 25 on the volume. After installing THESE speakers, I can actually turn it past 40 without any distortion whatsoever (I didn't want to go more, didn't want to wake up neighbors). Quality is excellent, but after all, its Kenwood, so no surprise there. Don't waste your money and time on other speakers. If you install these speakers right, you'll never need another pair again.

Kenwood makes a quality product. They always have and hopefully always will. The Kenwood KFC-1662S is an entry level speaker. It is only met for the average joe who wants to upgrade from their OEMs. This speaker is not meant to produce great bass. The 1662S will perform well at mid range levels but it will have a tough time reproducing the lows. The "highs" are very good for a speaker in this price range.

Fairly impressed by these. A friend ordered two pairs from crutchfield and gave me a set free in return for some instillation help. Very crisp sound great mid range, which was what I was lacking. Didnt really have high hopes for the product given the price but was pleasently impressed. Remember these are door speakers, and wouldnt recommend these as a back deck speaker as they dont really supply much bass. Sounds great in my 09 Galant. All in all, excellent bang for the buck!

These 6 1/2" Kenwoods were installed in a Chevy TrailBlazer w/ OnStar & w/out Bose. Ordered 4 of these since I bought a Kenwood HU to control my iPod. Good deal. The speakers are an excellent upgrade from the OEM paper cones. The rear driver's side was blown as well. The speaker harness was plug & play. I chose not to use the factory tweeter in the front, so I had to drill a hole on the side of the speaker door mount to slide the new speaker wire harness into the chamber behind the speaker. They sound so much better than what was in there already and they are not even "broke in" yet. Good value.

Terrific highs and Midrange but bass is just not there. Magnets on these are pretty small even compared to the stock speakers I replaced. Much clearer sound that the booming stock speakers. Installation in my 2003 Dakota was no picnic either, you'd think with all the information out there they would make the adaptors to fit exactly, but sawing the end of the adaptors off to get them the right size for the mounting was more than I expected. All in all an average speaker for a good price, but still better than the infinity speakers that came stock.

I had looked at all 6-1/2's for under $75 and came across these, I didn't want to purchase an amp for my mids & highs & that is why I focused my attention on these, I read all the reviews like you & I was leary but I ordered two pair for my 04' Trailblazer at the same time I ordered a Kenwood Excellon KDC-X693 CD/mp3 deck, after installation I was dissapointed, my factory speakers had more low end bass but I gave them the proper break in period (about a week at normal listening) & WOW what a difference the highs are high and the mids are near perfect, they don't handle lows very well but most other notes will hit you in your chest, I have a build in crossover and have set it above 50 hertz, I also left the factory tweeters hooked up in the front, for the price these speakers can't be beat, I have always gone with Alpine or Boston but after installing these I am all about Kenwood, I will be adding a 10" sub and small amp to complete the package. For anyone on a budget wanting AWESOME sound without spending it all on mids & highs I recommend these 100%, remember they don't produce low notes well though, if you listen to music with exterme lows you will want a sub, on the other hand even with the best of mids you still want a sub to complete the thump anyway, RIGHT?

I can kind of hear the 4"-10"s over the 6"1/2"s. thats probably because the 4"-10"s are mounted in the back near the top and the 6"1/2"s are mounted in the door down low. I wasn't at all suprised by the poor low bass respnse with both sets of these speakers....which is why i am planning to get a Kenwood Excelon KFC- X1200F 12" 4 ohm subwoofer. I picked up a pair of these to replace my stock front door speakers (one of which was blown, and both of which were terrible to begin with...) They are paired with a JVC KD-PDR30 H/U. The sound is a vast improvement over stock! The speakers do handle a decent amount of bass while remaining clear; they are no replacement for a dedicated sub, but they are more than adequate for average use. More volume, more clarity all around. Tracks from my IPod are very clear and defined across the frequency spectrum at all volume levels; I tested with everything from Hot Water Music to Dragonforce to Peter Mulvey and everything in-between, and nothing was lost. Listening to sports talk radio, I did notice that the speakers are still a touch "muddy"; I expect that this will brighten up as they break in, as have all of my speaker purchases in the past. Verdict: while not an "audiophile" speaker, these Kenwoods do not disappoint for the average user. Highs are crisp and defined without being thin or tinny, mid-range is full, and a reasonable amount of bass is present. The speakers do not distort under a decent load. For the price, these can't be beat!

I was very disappointed and surprised at the poor performance of these speakers! I installed them in the rear deck of my '97 Lincoln and the stock speakers were much better than these, so I sent the Kenwood's back. Crutchfield staff have been great and everything else in the order was fine, especially the JVC arsenal radio, that easily overpowered these speakers. I'm not sure if there was too much space around the speakers since they were in a deck or if they were just made out of poor materials, but I absolutely do not recommend them.

These speakers provide 100% better quality than OEM that were in the truck as one was broken, LOL. Over all though these are great speakers for the price, and as always Crutchfield sent everything needed to adapt them to the vehicle.

I want to start by saying that this installation was FUN! Crutchfield and its products, shipping, detailed instructions, and staff are all top notch and a pleasure to use. I have never attempted a car speaker installation before this and I had my doubts as to just how "easy" this was going to be. When I called Crutchfield to place my order, I had hoped to be told that I would merely have to remove the speaker grill covers, unscrew the old speakers, and pop in the new Kenwood speakers. I was not that lucky. Eddie told me that I would have to remove my door panels to get to the speakers. Eddie also assured me that I would be receiving detailed instructions for my vehicle and that if I ran into any problems with any part of the installation, the Crutchfield support staff would be ready to help. Well, it took me just three hours to complete the speaker installation to include having the door panels back in place and taking my truck out for a test drive. I am proud to say that I didn't have to call tech support and that the step by step instructions that Crutchfield provided made this whole venture just plain "FUN". These new Kenwood speakers sound fantastic and are well worth the price. I am looking forward to dealing with Crutchfield again soon.

The mids and highs sound great, but really fall short on the low end; factory had much better lows. If you plan to use low-pass filter and subs, then these speakers probably will work out fine, but for factory replacement, spend a bit more and get some thing with more RMS wattage and better lows.

My son and I installed these in his 2001 Saturn SC2. It took us a couple of door disassemblies to get it right. What I mean by this is the Saturn only has two bolt holes to mount the speaker. These speakers have good low end so what we experienced was buzzing and rattling on the door frame. So on the second attempt we drilled the necessary additional mounting holes so that all four screw / mounting holes were utilized. We also lined the hole with weather stripping foam to form a gasket. Usually door speakers have limited enclosure volume but I got to say that these speakers sound really good with very good bass response and upper end as well. Might I also add that we haven't installed his new HD radio from Crutchfield yet (on back order). So we are still using his stock radio.

Good speakers, bad install instructions for my car

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

These don't work very well in my 2005 Honda Civic Sedan. I knew that they would require some modifications, but even then, it wasn't a very good fit. I finally got the front speakers in after having to reposition and redrill because I ended up covering a panel snap hole. The installation instructions were vague and didn't really exactly match my situation. For instance - and here's a tip Crutchfield - you don't pull on all sides of the door panel to remove it - the top of the door fits in a groove and you have to pull out the sides and bottom and then lift off the top. And if I knew that I had to remove the entire back seat, side door trim, and the whole back shelf of the car, I would never have attempted the install, especially after doing all that work and then not having a good fit. My car will never be the same again. So the moral of the story is ... if the item says that it fits with modifications, be sure that you know what you are getting into. You may be in for more work and frustration that you might expect. If I had to do it over again - I probably wouldn't have done it. As far as the speakers, they are definitely good for the money. Really clears up the muddy sound of the factory speakers. P.S. Get the baffles. The speakers are exposed to all kinds of nasty environmental conditions in the door of your car without protection of the baffles.

I purchased 2 sets of these speakers for my Nissan Titan Crew Cab w/o the Rockford Fosgate sound system. These are much better than the factory mass used Panasonics that were in there. Only thing, the schoche adapter for the front fit fine, but for the rear doors, the holes in the schoche adapter did not line up with the factory screw holes and had to be widened with a large drill bit in-order to fit. On top of that you cannot mount these speakers to the adapter before placing it in your door, as you do with the front doors, because the screws that come out of the backside won't let you past the metal of the oval door speaker opening. So mount the adapter first, then secure the speaker, only able to use 2 screws, at top center and bottom center. Once I figured all this out about an hour later, the other side was a piece of cake.

I got these guys for the rear deck of my '97 Cavalier, and they were powered by a 17 watt by 4 RMS Sony H/U. I bought them specifically because they are so sensitive, and matched well with my low power output. The sound is strictly 'alright' in my opinion. The tweeters put out decent highs and the mids were OK. The lows were not very present, even for a 6.5" The Sony XS-GT1625a's I tried had a much fuller sound with good, punchy low end, as did some Infinity References. Of course, those speakers cost more too...

Experience after about two weeks: Bought to replace original factory door speakers in a 98 Honda Civic Hatchback. Removing the grilles was simple, I just pulled them off without any tools. The speakers are basically identical in size to the factory issues, even the magnets are the same. In one sense I suppose this is a minus since it indicates similar power between the two. But I was mostly looking for convenience, and since the materials are better and there are separate components handling different frequencies the Kenwoods are clearly superior. The screw holes align just fine with the old holes, although you have to tilt the speaker a bit (the logo won't be exactly horizontal) and use the "longer" holes. Of course, the sound initially was very tight but after a bit of breaking in it is opening up and getting warmer. I play a fairly broad spectrum of sources, from radio news stories to beat heavy music. I'd rate these speakers as adequate. Definitely better than factory and the sound is clean, but at least as of yet they don't blow me away. But then I never really expected them to. For my needs, I am satisfied.

Very easy install, even a caveman could do this. They sound good also. Would buy again, zero complaints.
