About the Kenwood KAC-M5001

Power for your sub on land or sea
Power for your sub on land or sea
Kenwood's compact KAC-M5001 mono marine subwoofer amplifier will power the bass in your vehicle or vessel with up to 300 watts RMS. That's enough to hear the bass clearly above the noise of the road, trail, or waterway as you rumble along. This little powerhouse will fit almost anywhere, including a storage compartment on a boat, motorcycle, or ATV, so you can put great bass in whatever vehicle you wish. The amp's conformal-coated circuit boards and IP67/IP66 rated covers and chassis protect against water spray and dirt, so the music won't stop just because the going got sloppy.
Works with almost any system
The KAC-M5001 will accept an input signal from just about any source, whether it's RCA cables from an aftermarket receiver or the high-level speaker wiring from a factory radio. The high-level inputs can sense the signal and turn the amplifier on, so you won't need to run a separate remote turn-on lead from the receiver or factory fuse box. The amp's low-pass filter lets you tune the sound for the best performance from your sub and its enclosure. The included wired remote lets you tweak the bass from your driver's seat.

Features
Marine Amplifier: The Kenwood KAC-M5001 is a Class-D mono subwoofer amplifier, providing 200 watts RMS into a 4 ohm load or 300 watts into a 2 ohm load, and is designed for the marine environment. The marine amp carries IP66, IP67, and ASTM B117 rating.
CTA-2006 Compliant: CTA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement methods for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers), with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. CTA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers under the same conditions (apples to apples).
CTA-2006 Specifications:
- Power Output: 200 watts RMS x 1 (into 4 ohms, 14.4V, 20-200 Hz, = 1.0% THD+N)
- Signal to Noise Ratio: 78 dBA
Other Specifications:
- Power Output: 300 watts RMS x 1 (into 2 ohms, 14.4V, 100 Hz, =1.0% THD)
- Signal to Noise Ratio: 97 dB (at rated power output)
Amplifier Topology: The class-D amplifier has these performance-enhancing features:
- Increased Power Flow: Heavy-duty internal terminals for power and ground help increase the current flow from the battery connection to the internal circuitry, providing enhanced sound quality and bass reproduction.
- High-Quality Capacitors: PMLCAPs (Polymer Multi-Layer Capacitors) improve detail and minimize distortion.
- Magnetic Shielding: The amplifier's output coils include magnetic shields to reduce radiated noise and increase sound quality.
Speaker Level Input: The RCA input jacks can be used for preamp level or speaker level input signals. If connecting the source unit's speaker wire to the input jacks, a pair of speaker wire to RCA adapters will be required (sold separately). When using a speaker level input signal, it may not be necessary to connect a remote turn-on lead because of the amplifier's signal sensing function.
Protection Circuits: The amp uses a microprocessor to provide protection against over-heating, shorted speaker wires, low impedance on an output channel, and sending a DC signal to the speaker outputs.
Controls: The Kenwood marine amplifier's control panel includes a screw-down cover for protection from the elements.
- Input Sensitivity: rotary control provides an adjustment range from 0.2V (200mV) to 5V
- Filter Frequency: rotary dial adjusted from 50-200 Hz for the low-pass crossover point
- Bass Boost Level: rotary dial; 0-18 dB
- Bass Boost Frequency: 3-position switch; 40 Hz, 60 Hz, or 80 Hz
- Wired Remote: wired remote level control is included
- Remote Dimensions:
- Width: 0.7"
- Height: 0.8"
- Depth: 1.3" (2.4" including knob and wire)
Connections: All of the amp's input and output connections are provided on a single 12" non-removable harness:
- RCA Inputs: one pair of stereo RCA inputs; used for speaker level or preamp level signals
- Speaker Outputs: two pair of 18-gauge wires; internally shorted to easily wire two subs in parallel
- Power and Ground: two 10-gauge wires provide the power and ground connections; an 8-gauge amplifier wiring kit is recommended (sold separately)
- Remote Turn-on: one 18-gauge wire; used to activate the amp if using low-level (RCA) inputs
- Wired Remote: proprietary connection to the included wired remote level control
- Fuse: one 40-amp ATC fuse wired in the power wire
