More details on the Kenwood MD-2070
D.R.I.V.E.II (Dynamic Resolution Intensive Vector Enhancement version II): This unit features Kenwood's patented D.R.I.V.E.II distortion reduction circuit. This circuit makes it possible to record analog sources, like that of a cassette deck or turntable, and still benefit from the high quality 24-bit recording as when recording from a digital source like CD. The D.R.I.V.E.II system maintains the correlation between the musical components of the input and output signals so as to not cause any sound degradation.
D/A Converter: This unit uses a 1 Bit (24-bit type) D/A converter, which consists of Kenwood's original 24-bit REC D.R.I.V.E.II system.
A/D Converter: This unit uses a 24-bit A/D converter, which consists of 4th order sigma-delta conversion, plus D.R.I.V.E. conversion.
ATRAC Encoding: This MiniDisc player/recorder uses ATRAC version 4.5.
Front Panel Multi-Jog Control Dial: This control knob provides easy access and control of editing and titling functions.
Editing Functions: In addition to the conventional editing functions (MOVE, DIVIDE, COMBINE, and ERASE), this unit provides more versatile editing functions such as the QUICK MOVE function for moving desired tracks at once, and the QUICK ERASE function for erasing desired tracks at once. These functions are easily controlled by the front panel multi-jog control dial.
Titling Features: The "Title input" function allows you to assign disc and track titles. The "Title search" function allows you to find the desired track title by checking every title. The "Title copy" function allows you to copy the CD text while recording a CD. The "Preset title" function allows you to preset frequently used titles. These functions are easily controlled by the front panel multi-jog control dial.
Shock Protection: A shock resistant buffer holds up to ten seconds of music for shock protection.
Digital Record Level Control with Auto Fade: In addition to the standard analog level, this unit also allows you to set digital recording levels for better control over your digital recordings. There is also an Auto Fade option, which allows you to fade-in to a previously set recording level, and/or fade-out. The default fade-in/fade-out time is 3 seconds, but can be set anywhere between 1 and 10 seconds in 1 second intervals.
PC Keyboard Input: This option allows you to connect an optional IBM PC compatible keyboard for easier title editing and track playback.
12-Character Dot Matrix Display: The display on this player/recorder uses a 12-character dot matrix display.
Record Level Indicators: This unit utilizes a 14-segment Fluorescent display.
Analog Recording Level and Balance Control: The recording level knob rests inside of the recording balance control. These knobs allow you to control the recording level and recording balance when recording from the analog input of this device. Note: These features do not work when recording using the digital inputs.
Timer Switch: This switch allows you to add a separate timer for timed recording and/or playback.
Track Numbers: The track numbers may be set manually or automatically.
Sample Rate Converter: This allows you to convert 32kHz and 48kHz to the 44.1 kHz sampling rate of MD, so you can record from DSS with digital out or DAT/DCC.
SL16 Compatibility: Using the SL16 system control connector on the back of this unit to connect to other Kenwood SL16-compatible audio components lets you take advantage of convenient system control operations. Using the SL16 connection will provide the following features:
- Automatic Operation: the input selector on a Kenwood SL16-compatible receiver will switch to the corresponding input when you start playback from this unit
- Synchronized Recording: when recording a CD, after setting the SL16-compatible receiver's input to CD, starting playback on the SL-16-compatible CD player allows you to start recording automatically with this unit
- Remote Control: you can operate this unit with the remote control that is included with the SL16-compatible receiver
Memory Recording: The last 6 seconds of data is stored in a buffer so you can start recording 6 seconds before you actually engage the record function. This button is on the remote control only.
Record Auto Pause: Recording is automatically paused when the sound input is below a certain level for over 3 seconds, or when the track number changes during digital recording of a CD. This feature is convenient when you only want to record one track from a CD. This button is on the remote control only, but can be accessed through the front panel multi-jog control dial. If recording more than one track, refer to the Auto Cut feature.
Auto Cut: When using the Sound Synchro Recording function, using the Auto Cut feature will pause the recording automatically when the sound falls below a certain level during recording. Once sound is again detected, recording will begin again.
Sound Synchro Recording: Allows you to automatically start a recording when input goes above a certain level. This level can be adjusted. This button is on the remote control only.
Auto Time: During the recording process, use this feature to determine the exact amount of silent space between tracks that it should look for, so as to automatically mark the next track when sound resumes. The default time is 2 seconds, but can be set in 0.5 second intervals between 0.5 and 4 seconds. Using this feature with the Sound Synchro Recording function and the Auto Cut function is especially useful when recording from an analog source.
Auto Level: During the recording process, use this feature to determine the exact level of "loudness" or "softness" of the silent space between tracks that it should look for. The default is zero (0), but the level can be set between +3 and -3. This feature was designed to be used with Sound Synchro Recording, Auto Cut, and Auto Time functions, or the Record Auto Pause feature.
