These dual voice coil woofers are built tough with PBO Advanced Fiber a molded fiber laminated with a woven cloth fiber that's light and strong for quick response and durability. And PBO fiber provides more damping than other materials with no extraneous cone noise.
The imaginative Kenwood "tornado-style" cone adds rigidity to limit flexing and resonances. An extra-long, spiral-vented pole piece is designed to maintain maximum magnetic energy while dissipating heat. A wide, one-piece rubber edge surround helps to guide cone movement during high excursion. The bumped back plate allows the voice coil to travel further than a conventional back plate, generating bigger bass.
With 1,200 watts of peak handling power, the Kenwood Excelon KFC-XW1225dB 12" dual voice coil subwoofer is ready to rumble. Two 4-ohm voice coils provide extra flexibility in wiring your system for maximum efficiency. This PBO powerhouse sounds great in either a sealed or ported enclosure.

Dual Voice Coils: For increased system flexibility, the woofer has two 4-ohm voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel with each other, the woofer presents a 2-ohm mono load. When the voice coils are wired in series with each other, the woofer presents an 8-ohm mono load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 4-ohm load.
PBO Advanced Fiber Cone: The molded fiber cone is laminated with a woven fiber cloth. PBO fiber provides higher sound velocity and better internal loss characteristics than found with other materials; this results in higher sound pressure levels without cone noise. This cone material is highly resistant to the elements, so, over time, the specifications of the cone will not change due to the environment.
"Tornado" Woofer Design: The cone is formed with three raised ridges around the circumference of the cone. The width of each ridge is graduated, making a tornado-like appearance. The ridges make the Tornado Cone much more rigid than conventional cones, with resonant frequencies that are more than an octave higher. Additionally, the Tornado Cone's resonance is of a more random nature than those of conventional cones, which reduces their intensity. Since the resonant frequencies are lower in amplitude and far above the woofer's useable frequency range, they are much less audible, resulting in clearer, more detailed bass sound.
One Piece Rubber Surround and Gasket: A one piece rubber surround and gasket attenuates basket vibrations, improving bass clarity.
1.2mm Steel Basket: The design and metal thickness of the basket provides vibration attenuation equal to that of cast aluminum.
Spiral Vented Pole Piece: This woofer is made with a one-piece back plate and pole piece. The yoke is bumped for long excursion. The vent opening is flared and shaped into a spiral to reduce wind noise.
Gold-Plated Speaker Terminals: The speaker terminals are gold-plated for corrosion resistance. The terminals are screw terminals with standard type male quick-slide terminals sticking out from the bottom terminal plate. This configuration allows you to attach bare wire, wire terminated with spade connectors or wire terminated with female quick-slides. The width of the screw terminals is 0.543". The dimensions of the quick slide terminals are: 0.187" W x 0.03" thick.
Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by Kenwood range from 0.8 cu/ft to 1.5 cu/ft. Within this range, the ideal size recommended by Kenwood is 1.0 cu/ft.
Recommended Ported Box Volume: The ported box sizes recommended by Kenwood range from 1.0 cu/ft to 2.0 cu/ft. Within this range, the ideal size recommended by Kenwood is 1.5 cu/ft. One 3" diameter x 7" long port should be used with a 1.5 cu/ft enclosure.
Power Handling: The woofer has two 4-ohm voice coils, and each coil can handle up to 300 watts of continuous input power (600 watts peak). Although the specifications section of the manual lists two power handling specifications, "RMS Power Handling" and "Peak Power Handling", Kenwood has established "Rated", "Maximum" and "Peak" input power ratings for this woofer. The "Rated" input power spec is equivalent to the "RMS Power Handling" spec listed in the manual, the "Maximum" input power rating is a continuous power handling specification, and the "Peak" input power rating is equal to the "Peak Power Handling" spec listed in the manual. The power ratings are as follows:
