About the Kenwood Excelon XR-W10F
The Kenwood Excelon XR-W10F 10" subwoofer produces serious bass output in the hard-to-fit areas of your compact car or truck. This shallow-mount sub measures just over 3" deep, so you can really get creative with your installation.
Big cone, big bass
The extremely light glass-fiber cone is 25% larger than last year's model, employing a honeycomb pattern that delivers quick response in demanding conditions without flexing. More cone surface area means this sub can move more air, so this design gives you powerful, accurate bass out of an extremely compact speaker. It's like getting an 11" sub in a 10" frame.
The sturdy butyl rubber surround helps to control the cone, so this woofer can rock hard without losing its punch. The cast aluminum basket offers a unique design that vents air out from the back and all sides of the subwoofer for exceptional heat dissipation. Pair this sub with the right amp and enclosure, and you'll get some powerful bass without losing too much space in your vehicle.
To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 260 and 525 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Kenwood Excelon XR-W10F reviews
This sub's unique design isn't marketed particularly well by Kenwood...it is a unique high performance design that has ~30% more cone surface than a standard 10" sub (almost 90% of a 12") plus the xmax of a midrange non-shallow sub (~1/3"). Essentially this gives you the approximate output performance of a good quality standard 12" sub, with 350w of power handling and excellent build quality. Deep bass rolloff is similar to a 10" despite the radiating surface, so if you prefer the sound of a 10" but like the output & dynamic potential of a 12", this is the product for you! It produces this near-12" cone size by using protruding outer mounting points, but this means it also needs a box which does not use a recessed cutout which can be common on prefab slim boxes. If you're looking for an appropriately matched prefab box, I believe Pioneer's slim 10" box fits this requirement. I've also used Kenwood's standard line 12" (same RMS power and xmax but fits a standard size cutout) with great results and SQ, although it will play a bit lower if you give it a larger box vs this sub. I wasn't all that excited about Kenwood subs until I used these product lines, but I am impressed with my results on these modern shallow models. Another review claimed power handling issues, but I've used Kenwood's 350w RMS rated products with competition grade flagship amps putting out full RMS rated power with zero reliability issues (calibrated properly w/o overexcursion / clip
Pros: output performance of a standard 12" midrange sub small box requirements build quality durable design good deep bass rolloff / F3 for a shallow 10"
Cons: premium design means premium price not compatible with recessed prefab cutouts for standard 10" subs sealed box deep bass rolloff is steeper than Kenwood's "value" shallow 12"

Very unhappy with Kenwood this is one of the worst product's I have bought. Does not seem to be able to handle the RMS in specs.
Pros: looks great
Cons: Not good construction for the price
