Q
Two of atmos speakers rated 4 to 8 ohms, will be at 60 feet away from my receiver, 16 gauge will be good enough, or do I need 14 gauge?
[ Neker718  Jun 10, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
myself l tend to use toward the peak power side while watching movies so on a amp of 250 or less I would use 14 gauge any amp larger I would use larger gauge wire. I've had some loude speakers glowing cherry red before.

Q
Is this wire safe to install behind my baseboards along my floor?
[ Cynthia  Feb 19, 2017 ]
4 answers
A
The way I understand it, Wire you install in the walls has a different coating that does not fill your building with toxic smoke if your building was to catch fire. Other than that running speaker wire is not going to cause a fire, just not enough power runs thru speaker wire to generate enough heat to cause you problems. Now keep in mind that this wire is smaller in diameter and would be easier to run behind a baseboard. Legally you would have to use a different wire to meet building codes.

I placed mine along the outside of my shoe molding as I have it in a room with wall to wall carpeting. I believe it is safe to install behind the baseboard if there is adequate room and the wire covering integrity will not be broken. I have been happy with this purchase and if I expand my listening area with more speakers will order more.

I installed Monster XP wire in my family room along my baseboard with no trouble not behind my baseboard . You just lay it along the baseboard and your carpet and it looks great. just try to keep it as close to the baseboard as possible. Square it around the corners for a nice clean look. You should not have any trouble. It works great.
[ FRANK  Feb 20, 2017 ]
A
I would say yes to your question and make sure the cable is in one long piece from receiver to speaker so you have no problems in the future and know that if you have a wiring problem come up its not from a worn connection between two spliced speaker wires. Also keep wire away from power outlet wiring! I hope this helps you.

Q
Can this speaker wire be used with outdoor speakers?
[ Bill B  Jun 27, 2015 ]
4 answers
A
I would use outdoor wire for safety of my amp and speakers
[ Kenneth  Jun 14, 2017 ]
A
Bill, I have used it for a couple of years without any problems. I live in Wisconsin with diverse seasons. It has worked great for me.
[ JOHN A  Jun 29, 2015 ]
A
Bill, I've looked all over the cable spool and my paperwork, and I don't find anything regarding indoor or outdoor use. If it was me, I'd go ahead and use it for my outdoor speakers. But, I'm not you, so you might want to get some cable that says it's specifically made for outdoor use. Your call. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. --Gary. P.S. I got curious for myself so I called Crutchfield Tech Support: they said it would probably be OK if it wasn't directly exposed to the elements, such as rain, etc., otherwise you should get marine-grade wiring. Hope this helps you. --Gary
[ Gary  Jun 29, 2015 ]
A
It should be just fine in any location if not subjected to direct sunlight for extended periods. I do not know the UV capabilities long term, so shielding may be necessary. Otherwise, it is very good, heavy duty and flexible cable.

[ Roland  Jan 30, 2015 ]

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: That wire is not in-wall rated, however here is a link to all of our current products that are; http://www.crutchfield.com/g_22112/In-wall-Speaker-Wire.html?showAll=N&tp=1432 If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
Do I have to strip the speaker wire or does it already come that way?
[ Teresa  Jun 17, 2015 ]
3 answers
A
The cable needs to be cut to length, the two wires separated for a few inches on each end, and then stripped. It could be carefully done with a sharp knife, but I'd recommend using a wire stripping tool.
[ TERRY K  Jun 18, 2015 ]
A
It has to be stripped, but it isn't hard to do.
[ BRIAN  Jun 18, 2015 ]
A
This is a 50-foot spool, so you cut the wire to the length you need, and then strip the ends. A cheap pair of wire strippers will work, or you could do it with a knife if you are careful.
