Universal Window-mount Antenna
Crutchfield customer from Deerfield, OH on 2/7/2021
2005 Chevrolet Malibu
I had my doubts but went ahead and purchased this antenna. It did have mostly good reviews. I mounted it on the windshield above the rear view mirror. I'm getting good FM reception from stations 35 and 45 miles away. Hid the power wires for the built in amplifier and coax under the front edge of the head liner and the A pillar trim. After removing one screw the trim can be pried off. Not a hard install at all.
Pros: Good reception.
Cons: Had to splice a wire onto the ground wire to reach a body bolt for a ground. No big deal but the antenna should have come with a longer ground wire.

Big improvement over stock antenna
Paul from Danielson, CT on 6/12/2020
If you have purchased this antenna you are most likely to install it yourself. Be aware going into it that you'll have to extend the ground wire. Check your stations before you begin to find out how many come in clearly. Pull out the existing stereo, run a piece of wire down to wrap around the antenna wire to pull up through the radio opening. Connect the antenna to the radio, connect the 12volt wire and put the radio back in place. Remove the pillar molding and run the antenna cable up the pillar and adhere the antenna to the top of the windshield (Clean the area first). Add a length of ground wire to the antenna ground wire. Install a round connector to the other end of your ground wire. Tuck the wire and cable under your headliner. Tape the wires to the body and tape the ground wire in place to secure using the pillar bolt. Install the pillar and bolts. Make sure the top bolt goes through the ground connector. Check your stations and enjoy the improvement.
Pros: Many more stations to choose from
Cons: A little work is needed to install correctly

Better than my old, stock antenna, but still not great
Bryan from Hardy, VA on 3/25/2020
2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STi
It definitely improved my reception some on my 2008 Subaru Impreza STI, but that's not saying much. The stock antenna was no longer pulling in much of anything (I suspect a break in the line somewhere). I can now get several of the local stations but I still don't have anything close to the reception my wife has with her stock antenna in her 2010 Subaru Forester.
Pros: Better reception
Cons: Still not great reception

Quick fix

Installed this along with a new head unit in my Subaru Outback wagon, as the factory antenna is the kind that is etched onto the rear window glass and had essentially stopped working. This was a much less expensive and easier solution than replacing (or trying to repair) the factory antenna. Works like a champ.
Pros: Inexpensive Flexible installation options
Cons: So directions/specs for power requirements

Works very well. Ground wire is short. But long enough in a very limited number of places. I put mine under the roof panel at the very top of my windshield. Then hooked the ground wire right to the screws to the visors. This only improved reception a small amount till I put it at the top of my window. Anywhere lower didnt help much at all. Helps a lot higher up.

James from west Texas on 5/23/2017
2000 Subaru Impreza RS
Easy to install, and product works as advertised. I tested it two ways, one with the antenna jack connected but the 12V+ wire disconnected and then with both the antenna and the 12V+ connected. The antenna definitely needs power to function properly. Signal seemed good. I had one of these I bought about 10 years ago, but let it go when I sold that car. It worked good all those years but eventually I noticed the red LED indicating 12V+ hookup would no longer illuminate. I was still getting reception so I think that the indicator LED may have burned out in that model even though the antenna still functioned. Hoping to get similar lifespan out of this new one.
Pros: Works as advertised, good for eliminating or shaving the factory antenna.
Cons: Feels a little bit cheaply constructed.

The antenna came promptly. I soldered a lead to the braid to extend the ground wire. The installation was easy. I covered the wire with some loom where exposed. The reception was far improved from my original antenna. I used the power connect to the electric antenna output of my radio. As recommended in other comments I used additional glue to make it stick to the windshield.
Pros: Good reception.
Cons: AM is not as strong as FM.

Very effective, and a great value!
Phil from Elizabeth, NJ on 8/8/2016
2006 Hyundai Azera
I bought a lower milage 2006 Hyundai Azera for my wife in June of 2015. My wife doesn't listen to music (ever!), but she loves AM talk radio. From day one, we had no AM reception from the factory AM/FM/CD player, and almost no FM reception. We live in New Jersey and every other car we've owned got pretty good radio reception, including my 2003 Subaru Outback, which like the Azera, has a window-embedded antenna. First I had my installer replace the factory antenna signal amplifier, with no improvement. Then I ordered a new head unit, a Pioneer with HD radio, figuring that would fix the issue. Still no improvement in reception, and we got almost no HD radio reception. Before I gave up, I decided to try this little $20 window-mount antenna. Voila! Reception is now much better, and that applies to Am, FM and HD radio. My installer did a nice neat job, placing the antenna at the very top of the front windshield. We now get all the New York and local New Jersey stations, some in HD, some regular OTA. Problem solved for under $60, including installation. After a year of trying to fix this, no more whining about the reception from the wife. Hurray! Highly recommended.
Pros: Huge improvement in AM, FM and HD radio reception.
Cons: It is not invisible, although at the very top of the windshield, it is unobtrusive.

Universal Window-mount Antenna
Crutchfield customer from Huntsville, AL on 9/1/2015
2003 Mercury Grand Marquis
I was in need of an affordable replacement for a malfunctioning in-glass antenna on a 2003 Grand Marquis. I purchased this window-mount antenna with high hopes based on the numerous positive reviews. The system was pretty simple to install. As others have said, the only real issue is that the ground wire is very short and had to be extended in order to reach a ground point. I mounted the antenna in an open location on the upper windshield. Unfortunately, the reception has been very poor. I live in town with many stations and NONE of them come in clear. Some are clearer than others, but all fade in and out. Overall, the FM reception is only slightly better than the broken in-glass one. Also, there is absolutely no AM reception whatsoever. VERY disappointing! Think twice before wasting money and time on this unit.
Pros: Simple install, price
Cons: VERY poor reception!

The ground wire on this antenna is a short braided tin wire. If you don't have a close grounding point then you need to figure out how to extend ground wire to grounding point. Not straight forward with braided wire. This is a critical design flaw.

Jeff J. from Rahway, NJ on 10/3/2014
2000 Nissan Frontier
Installation was a bit complex in my 2000 Nissan Frontier that had a broken factory antenna, only because the antenna ships without instructions. The antenna cable is inserted into the receiver's antenna jack and the 12V cable should be connected to the wire that feeds the power antenna (I think it was blue/white on my receiver). The antenna is attractive and works well for both AM & FM stations. During hot weather the glue that holds the antenna to my windshield sometimes gets soft and the antenna falls from the window....not a big deal.
Pros: Attractive design, pulls in radio stations.
Cons: No instructions, so installation is confusing.

Universal Window-mount Antenna
Joe from Lancaster, Pa on 8/5/2014
I read some reviews were people really slammed these things. I was hesitant to try one but I already shaved the power antenna from the car. I got it, wired it up with the remote wire or key on wire and WAMO! I'm pulling in all the stations I want and more! It plugged into the factory cable that the pwr ant used and I just poked a hole in the package tray to feed the wires down into the trunk. Find a ground for the short braided lead or add a longer wire if needed and you're in business.
Pros: Affordable alternative to fixing or replacing a crappy power antenna and it works better too! Ideal for a custom car or maybe even a motorcycle. Make your connections clean and tight and off you go.
Cons: It did come off the glass already, two sided tape on the unit out of the box. I dont care, its laying against the back glass on the package tray. I didn't prep the glass either and now that I think about it ,the glass has tint film on it so...

i purchased this antenna to replace the 21" "big stick" antenna that i had got from another site a few months back, it sadly got ripped off my truck by a few evergreen branches my neighbors refuse to trim out of the private drive we live off of. installation is pretty straight forward except for the fact that there are no directions and it took me a few mins to figure out the black cable needed to be spliced to my radio power supply ( good thing I'm electrician right?). i was not fond of how short the ground cable was and the fact that i needed to drill a hole near my roof in my 2004 ford f150 to ground it. other than the little rd light that shines down from the center of the antenna installing it near the head board makes it almost unnoticeable, all together worth it and works great...easy to conceal and won't get ripped out or damaged like my last two exterior mounted antennas however i wouldn't take the term "amplified" to seriously its not exactly a satellite reception... but works exceptionally well it would also be nice if the product came with or Crutchfield designed block off plates for the OEM antenna mount. and last but not least the adhesive strips supplied did not hold the antenna to the windshield more than a week....
Pros: easy to install, concealable, best bang for your buck, secure and discreet.
Cons: red LED is bright, ground wire is short, mounting is a bit limited, no directions, supplied adhesive does not last/ is weak.

Universal Window Mount Powered Antenna
daspazz from Conroe, Tx on 6/24/2013
The antenna works great as an addition to a system with an old or failing antenna. I did have to make sure the unit was grounded properly and that it was getting power from a switchable source, like the power wire for the new radio. Once I made those adjustment the unit worked as expected. The unit comes with pre-applied adhesive strips and a scrapper and alcohol pad for pre cleaning the installation area. My only complaint is that the adhesive fails over time and then the antenna hangs down loose from the window and the only thing holding it up now is my headliner. You would think that if something is going to be applied to a potential problem spot like a "hot" window, the adhesive would be much better than it is. At some point I will be re-appling some type of adhesive that will hopefully work better.
Pros: Easy to install and does add better reception to my car audio system
Cons: Poor adhesive that will not last once the Texas Sun starts to work on the installation location (interior of front windshield)

Pretty easy to install and straight forward to setup. Set this up on my 87 BMW 325i and installing on my 93 Infiniti J30 soon. Used same ground point as the sunroof motor ground and ran cable under headliner and through a-pillar. Wired the power for the antenna to the ignition wire that powers my aftermarket head unit as well. Signal seemed good in and out of parking decks etc. Mounted the antenna to the front glass right in front of the rear view mirror so it is somewhat hidden.
Pros: Simple and Effective. Have seen other people say it does not work but I have not had an issue with. Have been using for 7 months now.
Cons: Non. Crutchfield even includes instructions for the product which is vehicle specific and wiring is a no-brainer.

This did not work in my situation. It is mostly because the cables are to short. Not enough leeway to mount it where you need to.
Pros: None
Cons: Didn't work, Ground cable to short.

Pretty Good, Mostly Excellent

Straight forward install. Better than factory antenna. I live 25 miles out of town in the mountains and am able to tune HD stations. However, antenna has definitive limits. When reception threshold limit is met, totally lose station. In and around town works great. An big improvement over factory window antenna. Some AM reception noises I'm still trying to work out. Only happens when signal strength starts to weaken. Factory antenna seemed to do better on AM.
Pros: Easy install,
Cons: Short cord length, poor printed directions

RBoyd from Spokane Wa on 6/27/2012
I have it mounted inside a Motorcycle fairing. Sound on stereo never fades and no static. Simple hook and does not have to show. Although it you did need to surface mount it is compact enough to not atract too much attention. Works Great!
Pros: No issue with signal or hook up
Cons: none

Works beautifully, HD radio works perfectly.
Selcuk from Brooklyn, NY on 6/7/2012
1997 Ford Explorer
Very easy to install, installed on a 1997 Ford Explorer, and it was a breeze. I have an aftermarket head-unit that supports HD radio as well. The stock antenna that came with the vehicle was stolen, brought this after reading reviews, and it works perfect! Picks up AM stations in HD, FM in HD, everything works perfectly fine. Just installed it behind the compass/temperature display and stuck it on the windshield. The 12v wire attached to the accessory line so when the radio turns on or you turn the key to the accessory setting, this will come on as well. No instructions come with the item, but it's easy for 2nd generation Ford Explorers 1995-2000 are the same so it should work. Run the wires from the antenna and push to hide them under the roof where the carpeting is, then down the the C pillar, pull one of the plastic covers from the passenger side right next to the door, underneath the glovebox, open the glovebox wide, underneath the glovebox shove the wires, grab the wires from the glovebox, and then transfer over to where the headunit is and then voila! install and done. My instructions are vague but hiding the wires are easy. For ground, I took out a screwdriver from one of the vanity mirrors on the passenger side, it is bare metal there, stuck the ground cable there (it should reach if you installed the antenna mentioned above) and then screw back the vanity mirror and thats it.
Pros: AM and FM HD signals are strong in a big city with huge big buildings.
Cons: None

Solved The Problem
EricM from Germantown, MD on 9/17/2011
This product works like a champ. I accidentally ripped the mast off of my my car in such a way that the the whole antenna needed to be replaced. The geniuses who designed the car made replacing the existing fender mount antenna involve removing a tire and part of the wheel well. When I saw this solution i was skeptical yet hopeful. I couldn't be happier with the result so far, it was easy to install and gets good reception Note to the folks at Crutchfield, the plastic prying tool is for hiding the wires under the interior trim. Ps you have to hook up the power wire or it won't work. It sounds like that is the problem the other reviewer was having.

Wow - it actually works!
Art from Richmond, VA on 8/24/2011
OK, so I bought this for my boat stereo, which came with a very basic wire antenna which wasn't much use. I installed it today, and I just tucked the antenna up under the console headliner. Low and behold - it works great! At first, I just had the antenna hooked up, but the 12 volt power and ground wires were not connected, and I got virtually no reception. But as soon as I connected the power and a good ground, it picked up all of my local channels very well. If you hook it up correctly, I'm confident it will work well for you.

Looking at the others reviews of this antenna, they're all over the map. I can only assume that they didn't realize that this is an active antenna and must have +12 and ground hooked up. Anyway, bought this to replace the rear window antenna who's reception got killed by metalized tint. Put it right above the windshield's rear view mirror, routed the wires through the pass. piller and attached power and ground. Getting reception as good as I would have w/ a external mast! Cheeze to install.

This product does exactly what it's meant to do.
Christopher from Charleston, WV on 5/7/2009
Ensure that the small black wire is connected to the power antenna lead on your head unit, and MAKE SURE to properly ground the little silver wire. You will NOT be satisfied with the tuning ability if this antenna is not properly grounded. Now, I wouldn't buy this as strictly an "upgrade" to a working external antenna, but in my case, my antique vehicle never had an external antenna, so I picked this up and mounted it behind the rear-view mirror. It works at least equally as well as the antennas on my newer BMW and Chevy Impala, and it's nearly invisible. So if you need or want an internally mounted antenna, go for this one. Just be sure to hook it up properly!

Cure for the window antenna blues.
Bill from Los Angeles, CA on 8/3/2008
2003 Subaru Outback
I have the same make and model receiver in my car and my wife's car. The receiver works great in my car, but it doesn't get good reception in my wife's car. What's the difference? My car has an old fashioned mast antenna. My wife's car has the newer tech window antenna. It may look better, but it sure doesn't work very well. The universal window mount antenna works better than the window antenna in my wife's car, but not as good as the mast antenna of my car. This antenna is easy to install and connect. It needs to be connected to a power supply and plugged into the receiver. I attatched it to the side of the windshield so the wires that came with the antenna were long enough to reach the receiver. It is attatched to the side of the windshield and does not affect vision at all. Reception has improved quite a bit, though the fm sensitivity of the receiver needs to be better. If you need better reception a mast antenna is your best choice, but if you have a window antenna and don't want to drill holes in your car, the universal window mount antenna is a good choice.

Quick and Easy

2005 Ford Focus ZX4
The bolt connecting my factory antenna and the base snapped, which made it impossible to remove the bolt. Also I didnt want to replace the factory antenna base because it just made my car look stupid with the big antenna on my roof. So I ordered this antenna. It was super easy to install and I get great reception, unlike I did with the factory antenna. The only thing that wasn't great about it was the power wire is really thin, which made it hard to strip. Other than that it is a great product.

I installed this in my 2005 Nissan Altima. This antenna is a GREAT improvement over the stock winshield antenna. Very easy to install. I just tapped the 12V wire into the "Accessory 12V" wire behind my aftermarket CD receiver and plugged the antenna into the receiver. Got much better reception right away. I noticed a little static here and there while driving, so I attached the silver wire to ground and now I get perfect reception!

Bad reception, unless it's outside the car.
ryguy32789 from Chicago Suburbs on 1/2/2007
I bought this antenna to replace the broken stock motorized antenna in my Nissan 240sx. I plugged the antenna directly into the HD radio head unit and the power cable into the remote turn on lead. Reception was not very good no matter where I put the antenna; I put it on the dash, under the dash, even in a nook under the sunroof. The antenna would only pick up 1/3 of the stations, none of them clearly and none of them strong enough to pick up the HD stations. I even tried driving around the block and to an empty parking lot, and even in the wide open parking lot the reception did not improve. I relocated the antenna to the rear window and plugged it into the cable for the stock antenna. The only place I could get good reception was with the antenna outside of the car, defeating the purpose of the antenna to begin with. I tried putting the antenna on the top of the rear window, on the bottom of the rear window, on the cargo cover, and inside the drivers side quarter panel, and the reception was spotty at best in all of these places. I ended up just forcing the antenna mast out of the motor (it was stuck down) and hooking the stock antenna back up. Reception with that is perfect. I returned this antenna back to Crutchfield. I wouldnt recommend this antenna, unless you plan to mount it outside.

Universal Window-mount Antenna
Alex from Morris County, New Jersey on 5/14/2006
2000 Nissan Altima
This item is phenomenal, and is one of the best purchases I've made from Crutchfield. First off, my car has the antenna in the windshield, not an external mast-type antenna. My fiancee has a Camry with a mast-type antenna and got significantly better reception than my Altima - even with her stock radio. I had recently purchased a Pioneer head unit and was upset when I tried to tune in some stations. I still had bad reception. So I figured it had to be my antenna. I purchased this one and installed it the same night. I tried it out the following day and was so amazed that I couldn't stop yapping to my fiancee about the improved reception. It is awesome! I can finally hear those stations again. It is difficult to say how well it will work for you, because everyone's situation is different. What I can say with confidence is - If you have a windshield type antenna for your car and you're not getting good reception then you definitely have to try this. Installation was pretty easy. The most difficult part was trying to get the plastic off the stickers to stick it on the windshield. I don't know why, but Crutchfield says this item does not fit my car, but it does. Perhaps it is because this antenna is amplified that I get great reception, rather than it being a non windshield type antenna. I'm not sure. Regardless, in my opinion it is fantastic because it allows me to listen to the radio again.
