Still makes you have to find several wires on your own.
Crutchfield customer from Tucson, AZ on 2/2/2021
2007 Porsche Boxster
It's not a plug and play for a Porsche Boxster Non-Bose system for sure. You will need to find a different illumination source, and the 12V accessory source which Crutchfield could not help me find. Still need to tap into a 12V acc. somewhere and it's not easy to find. Factory stereo has a fiber optic "turn on signal", so you will need help not included in the instruction sheet, to find out how.
Pros: Good fit
Cons: Lack of specific instructions for specific cars and you still have to hunt down several other source wires this harness will not connect to like illumination, turn on signal, and accessory 12V.

Fits nicely and works just fine. The wire gauge is a little thin for my liking; 20 or 22 IIRC, compared to the 18 or 16 in my vehicle's stock harness. I've had no issues though, and the pre-stripped ends did save a few minutes when soldering the new harness together.
Pros:
Cons: Would prefer 18ga wiring.

This harness made the install! Once all the wires were soldered and the Sony XAV-AX1000 was installed the radio retained all the stock features: Sony dimming when the lights are turned on, remains on until the key is removed and of course comes on when the car is started. There are also instructions on how to connect the stock amplified antenna power lead using the harness and not the head unit amp output, so we can add an amp later if desired.

Not suitable for 95 to 2000 P38 Range Rovers
Crutchfield customer from Wichita, KS on 12/4/2019
1999 Land Rover Range Rover
Absolute rubbish. The first clue should be there is no listing on the package for a LandRover anywhere. The factory speaker connector does not fit the harness plug, the connector is larger than the plug. The Metra speaker plug does not provide pins for connection of the factory subwoofer that all P38 North American Export Range Rovers are fitted with. The power connector side is pinned out incorrectly placing a pin in socket #1 which is not used with the factory radio.
Pros: None at all.
Cons: Totally incorrect part.

Porsche Cayman 987.1 install and works.
alexandrea from Manson, IA on 3/12/2018
2007 Porsche Cayman
Ok, so for the cayman 987.1 non bose, this is not direct plug and play. That's due to the nature of how the car is set up with no hot wire in the harness and it has to be run spliced in from the fuse panel. You also have to add an additional blue wire to the harness (that is supplied). So this harness does work, and I would suggest calling crutchfield support or searching yt for how to install, I found a good one that explained the wiring setup, crutchfield does supply a diagram (which was a bit confusing).
Pros: It works inexpensive
Cons: requires some modification and and outside knowledge to make work.

This was included with a new radio for a 2016 Ram Promaster 2500. It worked good even though the package didn't have my make & model on it. For anyone else that needs this for a Ram Promaster, use it as-is. No modification is necessary. The constant +12V & switched/ignition +12V wires are already in the correct location. I bring this up because Metra's instructions for this harness say that these wires need to be switched around for some application. I confirmed this by testing the leads in the vehicle's harness with a voltmeter before connecting it to the new radio.

Instructions need an update
Russell M. from Terrytown, LA on 12/31/2016
2002 Volkswagen Beetle
Crutchfield needs to do a better job on their installation instructions. All questions answered with a couple of phone calls. Issue: The original stock radio had three connectors attached to the back and the wiring harness only has places for two connectors. Determining which connectors are to be used is not the problem. The problem is what to do with the third connector, what does the third connector operate/control in the car. That would have been some useful information to have available.
Pros: Connector worked as advertised
Cons: Instructions lacking information about install.

I soldered the wires (which were pre-stripped) and used heat-shrink to keep them clean. Talk about plug-n-play, this was a wonder. I HIGHLY recommend using their conversion kits!
Pros: The wiring used the same color codes between the two plugs. The wires had the insulation cut at the right spot for stripping, Only need my hands and a soldering iron.
Cons: Can't think of any!

Great Harness
Ben S from Thomasville, NC on 9/12/2016
2002 Saab 9-5
The included blue/white wire was needed in order to get sound in my car. This is apparently because mine has a factory amp. It came with very little instructions, so when I hit this complication I had to go to forums to find an answer. It worried me that because I'd used the blue/white wire when connecting the harness that I wouldn't be able to connect my stereo to an aftermarket amp, but Crutchfield support came through and confirmed it was okay to connect multiple remotes... Everything works.
Pros: Crutchfield was helpful and even got back to me over a holiday when I ran into a complication.
Cons: None. It all worked after I sorted out my minor complication.

Color matching is simple. I was set back a bit because I didn't read the directions and reverse the Red and Yellow wires for my vehicle but technical support was Excellent every time I called. The instructions also didn't mention that I needed to hook power up directly to the battery or auxillary power but again technical support knew right away how to point me in the right direction. Thanks Crutchfield!

Easy job for anybody who knows how to use a crimp tool
George T. from Miami, FL on 6/12/2016

The colors of the cables are the same as the ones for the radio conector. No need to touch your car's cables. The ends are already pre-stripped, so all you need is a crimp tool and approximately 12 crimps (I used the red ones) and the job is done. Easy enough.
Pros: Easy to install
Cons: no cons

Close but no Cigar
Doug E from New Braunfels, TX on 5/11/2016
2004 Dodge Sprinter
The plug configuration matched the factor Sprinter configuration but the wiring configuration was incorrect. While the wire color-coding matched that of the Pioneer harness, the Metra had the positions of the constant and switched 12v power reversed. It's a good think I verified the outputs of the factory wiring harness before finalizing the connections from the Pioneer harness to the Metra harness.
Pros: Decent quality. Color-coding matched Pioneer receiver. Found replacement pins for the Metra connector I could put on the Pioneer harness so didn't need to splice wires.
Cons: Wiring configuration incorrect.

Metra 70-1784 Receiver Wiring Harness
Crutchfield customer from New Brunswick, NJ on 4/3/2016
1998 Volkswagen Jetta III
This came free with the purchase of a Kenwood head unit from Crutchfield, along with the radio antenna wire, master sheet, and DIN removal tools. I had a very easy time with this adapter. The wires are all pretty striped and labeled. The document is also helpful, but I didn't need it. The wires are labeled. It says on it left front negative etc. It's great! I had a bad harness on my last unit (I didnt put it in) and this fixed a speaker that had gone quiet!
Pros: ?Pre striped ?Labeled ?Easy to use Document ?Came free with Receiver unit
Cons: No cons to me!

Works but needs splicing and rewiring to get power. 2003 Mercedes c240
Bryce W from rexburg, ID on 3/28/2016
The plug is cheaply made, in my opinion. The factory plug does not fit well into the slots, and require some muscling to even slide it into place. Good luck trying to get it out again. haha. (I had to, and it was not fun. I had to use pliers.) But the main issue was that the constant battery power and the ignition power lines were wrong. The yellow constant battery line on this harness had to be moved to the red wire from the factory harness. And the ignition power I had to splice into the cigarette lighter cord (black with yellow stripe btw) to get it to have power. VERY inconvenient. This is NOT a harness created for my car. It is very much a generic adapter just cheaply bundled with the stereo purchase.
Pros: Most wires match up color to color.
Cons: The wires didn't all come pre cut. I had to manually cut off the plastic from about half of the wires. (Going from this harness to the wires from the stereo adapter). Needed to splice the cigarette lighter wire to gain ignition power. Had to call Crutchfield for assistance (and the phone line was literally a busy tone for half an hour. :| ) Yellow constant battery power from this adapter needed to be put with the red wire from factory harness.

All the wires are marked for you. Supposed to made an installation easier for my VW Passat 2002 but connectors coming out from my car didn't fit the connector on this Harness so I had to manually cut and connect each wire instead. The product was useless to me, just waste of money. Nothing wrong with the product, just didn't fit my car. Other than that - ok.
Pros: Suppose to make your installation easier. BUT before you get it, make sure it fits the connection in your car!

I used this for my 01 mk4 golf and it made installation a 10 min job.I did not need to switch wires or add any for my factory amp to work normally. Only thing that is bad is this plug is large and you will have to tuck the wiring into any in dash cavity before you can slide your stereo all the way in. But great plug and play harness
Pros: Ease of install
Cons: Have to squeeze harness into dash to install head unit all the way in

Dodge Sprinter 2004 Requires Change
bluecuda from North Carolina on 11/28/2015

Really a great product, but required a change for my application. The [Ignition} and [Battery] wires needed to be reversed. The head unit worked fine but the memory (example being the radio stations you preset) were lost every time the the ignition was turned off. You can either mismatch the wiring color codes and reverse them or remove the pins and switch them. I took the extra time to reverse the pins to keep the color coding on the wires correct.
Pros: Direct plug in, easy to install
Cons: Required wire changes on my 2004 Dodge Sprinter

Had to be Modified for 2003 Mercedes CLK430
DD from Georgia on 9/24/2015
2003 Mercedes-Benz CLK320
This item was specified as compatible with my 2003 Mercedes CLK 430. Well the molex connectors are the same as what is in my car, but the yellow, black and red wires are not in the right position. I had to track down a wiring schematic for my car and remove those 3 wires and relocate them in the connector, as well as add the blue/white wire to turn on the factory amp. This item caused me a lot of grief, including returning a head unit thinking it was DOA because the red wire had to be tapped into a 12v ignition acc wire on the cigarette lighter before the unit would even power on. The instructions for the blue/white wire say to not use on vehicle newer than 1999. This is absolutely not the case for the 2003 CLK 430.
Pros: The speaker wires are in the right place.
Cons: The yellow, black and red wires had to me moved and the blue/white wire was required despite what the directions specified.

2006 Mercedes Sprinter
TR from Portland, OR on 7/15/2013
The harness worked perfect. The direction for a Sprinter van said to swap the yellow and red wires and then run a wire from the battery for the constant power. I tested the vehicle wire harness and power was there I just had to swap the yellow and red wires and it worked perfect without having to run a wire direct to the battery.
Pros: Ease of use and wiring

Ford Focus with factory Blaupunkt adapter
Gene from Salem Oregon on 1/25/2013
2003 Ford Focus
This wiring adapter worked great for adapting my Ford Focus 2003 factory Blaupunkt unit to my Pioneer stereo. There were only two wires to switch and the instructions I got with my purchase it told me which wires and for which cars. I soldered this adapter to my plug for my Pioneer unit and then just plugged it into my cars harness.I then just plugged in my Pioneer unit and every thing works great. The Pioneer unit I have does not have any the auto volume control for vehicle speed like my Blaupunkt had, but if it did, you would need another adapter for this feature. I understand it also is available from Crutchfield.
Pros: No need to cut up cars wiring harness. Easier to connect or solder wires at the table rather than in the dash. You can always easily plug the old stereo back into the car.
Cons: None

Winnebago Rialta VW Eurovan Wire Harness Won't Work
squagle from St. Louis, MO on 1/22/2013
2003 Volkswagen Eurovan
The Winnebago Rialta is based off of the 2003 VW Eurovan but has a different harness then the one provided by Crutchfield. It looks like this is due to the different 12v setup of the motorhome (runs of the coach batteries instead of the car battery.) This adapter will not work in the Winnebago Rialta.
Pros:
Cons: Does not work in the 2003 Winnebago Rialta

2005 Pontiac GTO
I went to replace my stock head unit in my 2005 GTO only to find out that in order to do this I needed a Voltwagon wire harness. A friend lead me to crutchfield and I was having an issue finding a metra part number on the website so I gave them a call. I called as I was viewing their website and the representative told me to go to the bottom of the page and read her the number, I hit the refresh button and BOOM all three parts I needed for my car were right there on my screen. My mind was blown! This was the first time I swapped a head unit so I made some phone calls during the swap and they had an answer to every one of my many questions. Best customer service, hands down!
Pros: Everything
Cons: Can't think of one thing.

John_M from Austin, TX on 1/3/2013
1998 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
Thank you CrutchField for including this item with my deck. Made the installation a snap. I gave it a 4 as the directions could be a little clearer. A quick phone call to tech support solved my problem (pink Amp On wire connection was not clear, at least to me). Switching the Yellow and Red wires for my application was a bit unclear as well. Yes, switching the wires is the right thing to do, but the instructions define the wire connections as to which one goes to ignition and which one to constant 12V. Following that after testing with my multimeter leads to incorrect connection.
Pros: Free with purchase. Easy to install.
Cons: Directions a bit unclear for a total novice.

Wire Harness worked perfectly
Mark from Moorestown, NJ on 12/31/2012
The wire harness was used on a 1998 Mercedes ML320. I am always a bit apprehensive about finding compatible aftermarket products for Mercedes because it seems there really aren't too many out there. But this wire harness was absolutely perfect. The instructions provided by Crutchfield provided easy-to-follow and detailed directions on how to correctly connect the wires in the harness to the wire harness of the radio I purchased (Sony MEX-BT3100P). The only flaw I found was that the directions incorrectly stated that the factory connector in the Mercedes needed to be cut in half in order to properly mate with the connector on the wire harness. I happily found that this wasn't necessary - perhaps the wire harness has been updated since the instructions were written. I was worried that the installation of my stereo would be complicated and take hours but it only took me an hour and a half including the time it took to solder the wires in the harness to the wires from the radio.
Pros: Great instructions by Crutchfield made using this harness easy and fast!
Cons: None

Crutchfield wire harness
Bruce from Mathews,VA on 6/24/2012
1994 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
The wire harnesses from Crutchfield never disappoint. They are one of the reasons I shop here. They make the job fun rather than painful, while maintaining your factory harness. If you still can't figure it out, Cruchfield support will blow you away with their knowledge. I bought a used car and a hacker had chewed up the factory harness. The Crutchfield tech told me what to look for and got me through it.
Pros: If your vehicle has special wire requirements or differ from a normal install, they'll include specific instructions telling you exactly what to do.

Joe P from Cleveland, OH on 6/7/2012

I wouldn't normally use something like this as I prefer to directly attach the new harness bundled with the receiver to the car's existing wiring. It was so much nicer to be able to do the soldering outside of the dash and in doing so, installation was a breeze. I would definitely use a harness adapter like this again.
Pros: Easy to use, permits soldering/ splicing to be done outside of the vehicle. Works with multiple makes/ models.

The kit fits but its not easy. You may have to break out the "adjustment tools" like a hacksaw, hammer, chisels, etc.
Pros: Connects easily
Cons: There is not enough space in the compartment for the large head. Its about 1/8" to 1/4" too thick. You CAN force it in but its scary. Feels like you are bending the radio to get it in.

not for sprinter
KSH from Kansas City on 3/16/2012
This item plugs into the harness for our 2010 Sprinter van, however the sprinter uses the CanBus system. if you use this, you will still have to run switched power and dash illumination. I ended up using an XSVI-1784-NAV to hook up our nav unit. if you don't have a nav unit, the XSVI-1784 will work as well for a little cheaper.
Pros: will get your speakers hooked up as well as ground an constant power.
Cons: will not provide switched power in a sprinter van.

volkswagen wiring harness
Sa from California on 2/9/2012
1999 Mercedes-Benz ML320
I bought the harness to use on a 1999 Mercedes 320 ML. There was one wire that was not connected correctly. The blue, 12 V wire for the radio antenna amplifier out of the radio needed to be connected to the tan/light brown wire on the Merceds plug. Without 12 volrts to the antenna amp, I received no AM reception. I used a pair of needle nose pliers to move an unused wired over to reconfigure the plug and all was okay. Other than that, the plug is a wise thing to use and generally makes the installation slick. Perhaps the wrong plug adapter was sent to me, but I doubt it

Crutchfield connector makes install easy
Crutchfield customer from N California on 10/16/2011
2005 Lotus Elise
I will always buy from Crutchfield - the connector kit makes install much easier. Eliminates soldering inside the car, wire by wire. Saves hours of work. This is my 2nd install. I was skeptical if the connectors work; I mean, how can they test each and every one? But it does work. My previous install had differential inputs, different from typical, and they got the wiring correct.

2000 Jetta with Monsoon
Crutchfield customer from Jacksonville, FL on 9/17/2011
2000 Volkswagen Jetta
The harness fit perfect with only one problem. With the Monsoon system, my amp was drawing power from the battery when the car was off. There was nothing on the harness let alone instructions on what to do about this. Had to disconnect the amp and rewire the speakers to by pass the use of the amp. This was annoying and frustrating. I don't really blame the harness or crutchfield's instructions, but maybe add something on what to do about this. Overall the hardness fit and worked well minus this amp problem.

All of the factory wires are confusing. Just plug in the harness they give you and it just works. Works exactly as it should!
dtsdig from Rochester, NY on 3/24/2011
I installed this into my 1995 Mercedes E320 Wagon with the Active Bass factory setup. I have spent days online looking for easy solutions that allow you to install a new head unit and still utilize the factory amp that powers the mid/bass speakers in the front doors. This is that product!!! I did swap the red and yellow power wire positions at the connector so that the constant and switched power works properly for my car as the included instructions said. I also hooked up the amp turn-on wire from the new Alpine deck to the power antenna wire on this harness because on my car the power antenna wire is also the factory amp turn-on. The system works flawlessly and sounds a million times better than the original with no wires having to cut. Thanks Crutchfield!

The harness just simply works as advertised. Installed it in my 2001 VW Jetta that came with a Monsoon sound system. Very easy to install because of the included Crutchfield installation guide and the colors matched up with my Kenwood receiver cables. The length of the harness cable and the cable from the receiver combined was a little long, but it fits inside the dash okay. One can trim the cables a little shorter for easier installation.
