About the Metra 70-7550 Receiver Wiring Harness

Metra 70-7550 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

Metra 70-7550 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness saves installation time since you won't have to cut factory wires individually, and this also enables you to re-install the factory radio if needed. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Connections:

Note: You will need to connect the harness's ground wire and the receiver's ground wire to your vehicle's chassis.

  • 12V constant power
  • 12V switched power
  • chassis ground
  • amplifier shield ground — connects to your new receiver's chassis
  • power antenna turn-on
  • amplifier turn-on
  • illumination
  • left front speaker +/-
  • right front speaker +/-
  • left rear speaker +/-
  • right rear speaker +/-

Features

Metra Wiring Harness: Metra wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Metra wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Metra wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Metra wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required & sold separately.

would this be the harness to use for an 05 g35 aftermarket radio?
[ ken2k  May 02, 2016 ]

Thanks for your question. It depends on your vehicle options. If you do not have the Bose system, then yes that is the correct harness. If you do have the Bose system then you would need this one: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142C4NN03/Scosche-CNN03-Wiring-Interface.html?search=142c4nn03&avf=N&skipvs=T Hope that helps.

Q
What gauge wire is the harness? I need to know what size butt connectors to use.
[ James  Apr 28, 2014 ]

A
At age 79 going 80 in July, my answer may be a little late for you. I used 16 of the 22-18 GA, But Splice Connectors and just 1 16-14 GA. I crimped the connectors and wrapped each with colored electrical tape and bundled the lot with electrical tape and twine. I know soldering is better than crimping but my hands are not steady anymore. Hawaii air is very corrosive so a good tape job is necessary. The sound coming out from my car speakers are just outstanding so I know my connections are for now ok. Good luck!
[ CHESTER  May 13, 2014 ]
A
I am not sure what the gauge is ,because I soldered my connection.
[ DAVID K  Apr 30, 2014 ]
A
I think that it was around 16 / 18 gauge I had what I needed on hand so I am not sure, but I think you can get by with some thing that will work on 16 gauge. KI4MGM 73 William

I actually haven't installed it in the truck yet, so I was able to look at the harness and it appears to be 18 gauge wire. I checked with connectors I have and red butt connectors fit correctly. Hope this helps.
[ RAY  Apr 29, 2014 ]
A
I want to say they are 16-18 ga. Im leaning more towards 18 ga. But I can't say for certain. You should be able to get away with using 16 ga connectors with no issues. I'd recommend the heatshrink type.
[ GARRETT J  Apr 28, 2014 ]
A
16 gauge
