About the Metra 70-8113 Receiver Wiring Harness

Metra 70-8113 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

Metra 70-8113 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness saves installation time since you won't have to cut factory wires individually, and this also enables you to re-install the factory radio if needed. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Installation Note: This harness uses your factory amplifier; your new stereo must have two pairs of preamp outputs to connect this harness.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Great wiring harness except for the fact that it took me a whole day to figure out that the reason my front right speaker wasn't working was because there was a piece of wiring sticking out of it causing it to short. PSA!!! If one of your speakers isn't working, check the wiring harness BEFORE ripping your door apart looking for a nonexistent problem. Still a little frustrated over that, but otherwise pleased with how easy it was to use on my Kenwood Excelon DPX.

First one I received wasnt put together properly and I spent couple days trying to sort out the problem with the Crutchfield tech help...multiple phone calls and hopefully the problem will be resolved once the tech figured out the harness wasn't properly manufactured...we shall see once the replacement arrives... It was the grounding pin for the rca jacks that wasn't making contact in the metro harness...

Did the job exactly as intended. However, you want to have on hand the after market car receiver's wiring guide to be sure you connect the right wires. Also, depending on the age of your car, it would be helpful, if you are both cautious and electronics oriented, to also have the car's stock radio wiring diagram on hand to be certain you are connecting the right wires. Fortunately, the stock wiring diagrams can usually be found with an on-line search. The solderless wire connectors that accompanied the harness worked great and simplified the required wire connections. It's nice that I can easily put the stock radio receiver back in when I sell the car as the the car's wiring and connectors are unaltered. And the best part, everything went in and works just fine.

Wiring Harness for JBL/Toyota OEM system from Elliston, VA on 7/7/2016

2004 Toyota Camry

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This wiring harness has to be the single best reason to purchase car audio from Crutchfield. Using the instructions provided, I was able to easily wire this harness to the harness provided by my JVC DVD Receiver in the leisure of my house. When it came time to connect the new receiver into the car, it was very simple: Plug in the antenna, plug in the SiriusXM receiver, plug in the rea-rview camera plug in this harness, then only two extra wires to connect: the reverse wire to the rear camera, and the "park" wire (which prevents DVD video if the car is moving). Best of all, Crutchfield included it for free.

Pros: Free. Greatly simplifies receiver hook-up.

Cons: None.

I only use Metra wiring harnesses for all my after-market installations. They clearly mark the critical wires (ground, power antenna, steering wheel controls, etc.) and provide a clear guide to the color coding on the remaining wires (which are usually like-to-like). Plus this harness had dual RCA outputs making the connection to the existing JBL amp in my 04 Sequoia a breeze to install.

Pros: Easy installation and Crutchfield threw it in to my order for free!!

I'm not a pro, but I've installed my fair share of aftermarket radios. when I wired everything together and gave it test run, I was getting very bad feedback out of the drivers speaker. this was my first experience installing a radio with factory amps (usually have my own) so I thought it was something I did. after over 2 hours of troubleshooting a possible bad ground or bad RCA Cable, I noticed that 2 of the pins in the adaptor that plugs into the factory plug were "shorter" than all the others. I took very small needle nose and pulled them up but they kept pushing back down when plugged back in. I called Crutchfield and they are send me a new one without any hesitation which is why I give it 3 stars. I'm sure I just got a defective harness and accidents happen. Just caused a lot of unnecessary troubleshooting.

Pros: easy instructions, clear labeling

Cons: just got a bad apple and wish it didn't waste so much time

Made my installation of a JVC KW-HDR81BT in a 2003 Toyota Highlander Limited with JBL premium sound easy. Although I had to search different forums before I went on with the install. There are some things that the instructions that came with the product does not tell you. But once the install was done the sound is many times better than the original JBL Head Unit( although I miss the 6 CD changer that bit the dust). I decided to use the original factory Amp because I was not willing to tear some carpet and the back of the second row passenger seat to get to it and use a different harness, which I bought just in case, and ended up for spare parts , I took one of its pins and used it for port 12 to dim the lights after the ignition is on. And now I get to enjoy beautiful music for my long highway travels. Motor On!!

Pros: Don't have to cut a single wire of the original factory harness, get to use your original JBL external Amp.

Cons: Have to do extra research on forums reagarding some missing features and how to make it work.

This is a quality harness that made the installation of a JVC double DIN receiver very easy. My only complaint is that it doesn't have an illumination wire, which some reviewers claim the Camry provides. Wanting an easy, quick installation, I just installed this harness as intended without trying to identify the illumination wire in the factory harness.

Harness worked great and really simplified wiring conversion for installation. Only one small comment, there was no wire included to tie to the lighting wire that dims the screen when the parking/headlights are on- had to splice one but all other major connections were very easy to match to the radio wiring harness. Used RCA plugs for the four speaker channels.

Pros: See above, plugged directly into Toyota harness without problem.

Cons: Had to test and splice dimmer wire but still far easier than splicing all of them.

worked well for connecting an Alpine Alpine CDE-137BT with 2002 camry

Jim from Columbia, MO on 3/5/2013

2002 Toyota Camry

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Like other reviewers have said, there is no wire for the dimmer function in the car harness. I researched this online and discovered that on the 2002 camry, the solid green wire (pin 2) in the Toyota wiring harness) will dim the head unit lights when you turn the headlights on. This is the "Illumination" wire on the Alpine head unit harness. You just need to splice a jumper wire into the solid green wire in the Toyota harness and put a bullet connector on it so it will plug into the Alpine Illumination lead. Also, I read online that if you connect to the green and white wire in the Toyota harness, then the head unit lights will dim when you adjust the dimmer control on the dash lights. Also, I discovered to just add the "amp shield ground" black and white wire in with the other chassis ground wires. I hope this helps. Jim I hope this helps.

Pros: Works great in connecting the Alpine head unit into the 2002 camry with JBL amp and no navigation system

Cons: The illumination/dimmer wire is not provided, you have to splice one in.

This kit makes life much easier....almost. I think I just got a poor harness (and user error on my part). The power antenna wire came out of my kit when I tried to connect it to the radio harness coming from the car and I could not get this to work and ended up running down to a Box store to buy a new harness. Part of the problem was that you have to connect the two blue wires or you get no sound (if figured I had thee antenna plug in the back plus one of the others..my bad). If the wire would have stayed and I connected them all I am sure it would have been fine but for free with the deck AND the install kit I am not complaining. I could have called to get another one I am sure but it was trying to surprise my wife and need one now.

Pros: makes life much easier

Cons: Connections of the wires intot hte harness could be better.

first of all, the factory amp adapter does NOT have the illumination wire hooked up, so you need to splice into the green wire on Toyota amp plug. second and most important it does NOT make any sense to actually use the factory amp since it's like what 10 years old and inferior quality already by now when compared to new head unit's built-in amp? I had static noise, background noise and other problems when using the factory amp! nobody at Crutchfield suggested that I should have tried to bypass it by using a different integration adapter (solaras have bypass plugs behind the dash, so it's an easy plug and play to bypass the amp) I ended up buying a Scosche amp bypass adapter and hooked up my JVC head unit straight to speakers, zero problems now, crystal clear sound. also worth noting is that amp bypass adapter actually has the illumination wire terminal hooked up (amp integration adapter does NOT so I had to splice).

Works, but...

MarkS from Marietta, GA on 1/24/2011

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This harness works, but as others have said, there's missing wires. My '03 Solara Convertible with the JBL Premium sound system had more features and wires than this harness had wires for. I had to first figure out which wire in the car's harness was the dimmer (white - green stripe), and cut it behind the plug to splice it manually. Then I had two ground wires and only one ground wire for the radio. Crutchfield tech advised I splice all three together (worked, no hum-thankfully). There's also no way (that I was able to discern with the new radio) to control the the antenna for just the radio...the power antenna is always up if the radio is on--the factory unit would put the antenna down if a tape or cd was playing (I think this is more a limitation of the radio). The JBL system has a crossover in the system that takes the signal and pushes the bass to the subwoofer...there's no need for a subwoofer pre-out connection (which this harness doesn't have) for the Toyota.

This harness works great if you have a pre-installed amp in you Celica. It worked perfect, and had easy to follow directions.

This harness wired up the major components. But it does not have a lead for the dimmer control. Why in 2010 Crutchfield would be selling a harness that does not capture this wire I have no idea. So keep in mind you will need to have some taps on hand so you can connect you're radio's dimmer wire to the car harness' dimmer wire.

Worked great, factory amp is working very well with my x994 kenwood. Appreciate being able to call crutchfield as I wasn't sure what to do with "one extra wire" from the kenwood harness. They put me on hold, checked a couple things and told me the color wire it should be soldered to. Awesome not having to pull the unit out after installation to address a mis-wiring issue.

The good: easy to rewire the HU for the car, no brainer The bad: NO antenna adapter for the Toyota diversity system; didn't even find one on the WWW; had to make my own from a y-adapter and solderless motorola plugs

3.5 STARS

broderp from Dayton, Ohio on 7/11/2009

I would rate this a five star product if it wasn't for two things: 1. The harness is missing a wire for the DIMMING feature found in most radios. If you want your display to dim when parking lights and headlights are on you can't do this with this harness. You will need to buy a second harness just for the wires, and tear it apart to get the wire so you can snap it into the first harness. 2. I bought a harness (same type , but for different car from crutch field almost a year ago) and it had the same issue. Seems like my concerns fell on deaf ears as this newer harness still is missing the wire. Crutchfields price is GREAT, but when you factor in the cost of two, plus the time and effort to tear one apart (it is difficult to do they are made quite well) it's not as good deal anymore since shipping cost more than taxes (unless you get if free with a radio purchace.)

I went to a local car stereo specialty store and had the owner tell me there was no way to use the factory amp with an aftermarket stereo. When I ordered this I wondered if it would cause any buzzing, but there was not even a hint of it. Thank you Crutchfield for being the best resource anywhere for helping me install my car stereo myself. Each car is a new challenge and I couldn't do it without your expert advise.

The problem with both the harness wiring and the Alpine connection diagram is neither shows which RCA male fittings actually connect to which female connections on the unit. The installation page needs to show the rear of the unit enlarged with the actual female fittings, such as left upper fitting is shown using the gray male fitting, etc. The back of the Alpine is not labeled as was the Blauplunkt I used in my other car. Perhaps advising Alpine of this problem would get them to stamp the terminals on the plate. In the meantime, your one page guide could be changed to do this.
