A must have for simplified after market installations

2012 Subaru Legacy
The Metra Receiver Wiring Harness is a must have for trouble-free after-market head unit installations. Simplifies the installation process and is virtually "goof-proof". Highly recommended, especially with Crutchfield's ReadyHarness service.

Works with Modification for ASWC-1 steering wheel controller
Bill S from Knoxville, TN on 12/28/2020
2012 Subaru Outback
This harness had to be modified to work with my 2012 Outback (H/K premium audio without navi), but I agree with the other reviewer that another harness model should be offered to retain factory backup camera functionality. With this harness pinout the ASWC-1 steering wheel controller would not identify my vehicle and was stuck sending +Vol and would blast the speakers at full volume. The fix came from user marozie at subaruoutback.org: The pre-wired 12 pin ASWC connector spliced into the 70-8902 28 pin connector is wired for Toyota. The installation doc that comes up when you enter this car on the Axxess website is also for Toyota (so they match, giving a false sense of legitimacy). According to someone at Metra Subaru has been switching around wiring that matches Toyota and wiring that's different. Anyhow, the correct wiring is grey/red (pin 5 on the Axxess 12 pin connector) to pin 21 on the 28 pin, grey/blue (pin 11) to pin 22, pin 23 and white/green (pin 2 on the 12 pin) to ground.
Pros: Works with OEM steering controls for +vol/-vol, +seek/-seek, mode, and remapped PTT to mute as the head unit doesn't recognize it. So the only two that don't work are on-hook/off-hook. I think that is a head unit limitation.. overall really pleased.
Cons: Requires modifications for use with steering controls and I don't have use of OEM backup camera.

Worked for me with extra effort
Christopher from Bronx, NY on 10/7/2020
2014 Subaru Outback
This harness ultimately worked with my 2014 Outback (H/K premium audio without navi), but another harness model should be offered to retain factory backup camera functionality. With this harness pinout the ASWC-1 steering wheel controller would not identify my vehicle and was stuck sending simultaneous button presses to the head unit. Entering into manual programming mode and manually mapping the steering wheel buttons solved that issue. But I did have to re-pin this harness and add a AXCSD-6V stepdown voltage converter to interface with the factory-installed rear camera - not a viable solution if you're lacking the technical experience to do that kind of thing.

Wrong part for my Outback
Crutchfield customer from Columbus, OH on 10/29/2017
Wrong harness for my Outback. The Crutchfield rep said it was the correct harness, their website said it was the correct harness but it was not. The harness would probably work fine in the right car. Ultimately they refunded me but I had to buy the right part locally for more since I already had my car apart. Luckily they were open and the right part was available.
