Might fit some...

Crutchfield customer from Durham, NC on 6/3/2019

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Does not fit 98 K1500 lower console cd. Even after trimming the face to a flush surface and literally forcing it in to where you'd think it would break, it doesn't line up with the opening. The sides are just shy, letting you see the edge and anything you put in there sinks in 1/2 and inch making it awkward to get out. I ordered a factory replacement which is supposed to be and looked like a direct fit...

The perfect pocket!

MT Vessel from Oakhurst, CA on 4/6/2018

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I used this during the installation of a Kenwood in the dash of my 1999 Chevy Suburban. My factory unit had a remote CD player that would no longer be necessary, and this pocket replaced it. I will say that I struggled a bit with the installation because it was difficult to slide into place. In the end, I ended up inserting a piece of wood into the pocket and hammering firmly on the wood with a rubber mallet. Once the pocket was in position, though, it stayed there as though glued in place!

Pros: - Fits perfectly - Adds storage space

Cons: - Difficult to slide fully into position

The pocket is super hard to push into place but it lines up well with the dash once it's there. The bottom should have a non-slip surface so your stuff doesn't rattle all over the place. Inexplicably it has holes in the back so very small objects can fall inside your dash.

Factory Look, Great Build Quality

Pedro from El Paso, TX on 5/4/2017

1998 Chevrolet K Series

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I was amazed to see this product available for the 95-98 C/K Trucks. The construction is solid Plastic, and fit VERY SNUGLY in the dash. It does not have the traditional clips originally used by GM, so it basically wedges itself in there. I did modify it to accept wires from the rear, which helped because it had some openings. I did have to drill them out, but I got them in. I also mounted the Remote Bass Boost Control and my Pioneer Stereo's USB Extension Cable inside it on the top. There is still plenty of room to store items, such as my iPhone. I did have to put the dash panel on to see if it was in, and I did have to push it in further to clear the Dash Panel. Otherwise, it looks like a factory pocket! I would definitely recommend this product for any 95-98 GM GMT400 owner!

Pros: Excellent Build Quality, Solid Plastic, Easy to Modify, VERY SNUG FIT, Factory Look.

Cons: VERY SNUG FIT, Had to attach the Dash Panel to see that I had to push it in further.

Its a piece of plastic that turns a useless CD player into a storage space. It does that well.

It's awesome to have storage instead of that CD player. For some reason the front faceplate comes off of this? No idea why, but it's not an issue once the dash bezel is back on. And it's a pain to slid this in. The fit is tight, and the bottom hit on part of my kick panel, but once I wiggled this around to get it in it was all good. Make sure you don't need to take this out once you put it in, because it's probably not coming out without braking

Pros: Handy to have, looks ok

Cons: Tight fit, holes in the back should be optional

Very, very tight fit - I called the support phone number because I thought for sure it was the wrong piece. However, the gentleman on the phone assured me that it would fit, so we manhandled it into place finally. We did cover the holes in the back of the pocket so things wouldn't fall through the back. I love having a spot for my phone and other assorted stuff, and it looks like it is original to the truck. As others have noted, the front face plate is flimsy and wants to come off, but does snap back into place pretty easily. Overall, I love it!

Pros: Great spot for phone, etc; looks original

Cons: Hard to get into place.

Pros: Fits. Great place to put cell phone. Looks factory.

Cons: Little holes in the back. I don't put anything small enough that might fall through. But I'm sure change would. Or other small items.

With the elimination of the CD player this little cubby/storage fills in nicely, besides what else are you gonna put in the empty hole that works this well for under $15?

Installed in a '02 Suburban

Tony from Chicago, Illinois on 1/30/2015

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I took a gamble and bought this. It states it won't fit my car but it fit it perfectly a 02 Suburban. It replaced the tape deck player. One thing that happened was that my music stopped playing when I disconnected the tape player. I figured it was just making a circuit. I called tech but they didn't have an answer for me. I figured out that if you connect the 2 outside wires on the connector that plugged into the tape deck it completed the circuit and the music came back on. In my car it was orange and pink IIRC. I had alot of wires going thru my head on the install.

Pros: Perfect fit holesin the back if you want to run wiring through.

Cons: None,, if you don't plany on running wiring through the holes just tape them up before you install it.

it worked as replacing the stock CD player

Pros: the pros on this would be that an exact fit although a bit tough to get in and it has slotted holes in the back so you can run wiring through from your stereo plastic is soft so you can easily make the hole bigger if necessary

Cons: I guess the cons would be that if you're using this as a trade for small items they would fall through in the back not exactly sure what the front little flimsy pieces for it is removable I took mine off and also is a very very tight fit had to argue with it a bit to get it in but did work

Not much to say here. If you have a 00-02 Tahoe that came with a tape deck, then this product will replace it and give you a cubby for storage. Crutchfield says this item is not compatible but it is. And if you purchase it with other qualifying items, then you get a 50% discount.

Pros: It does what it says. Provides additional storage room.

Cons: Almost didn't purchase it from Crutchfield because it says it is not compatible with my 02 Tahoe. Not true.

Crutchfield response on 6/10/2014
According to the manufacturer, that pocket isn't listed as fitting the 2002 Tahoe. They only list it fitting up to the 2000 model. We're very happy to hear that Dan found it to be an easy solution!

Fit was spot on and looks great. Only took a few minutes to install and makes max use of that space.

Pros: goes in fast and fits great

Actually didn't really need this. I wasn't sure what is was for until I got it. I already have the factory pocket where a cd player or cassette player would go. The factory one has some kind of soft lining on it, and the replacement is just plain plastic. That is why it lost a star. Otherwise, I never used it.

Fits perfect. Great place to stash iPhone/iPod. Use Black USB cable so it's not so obvious.

Pros: Just what I needed.

A
mine got pretty tight too. Just play with it but be careful not to break it. Supposed to be tight, don't want it loose
[ Preston  Jul 13, 2018 ]
A
To the best of my recollection, it was an extremely tight fit, and kind of snaps in with a fair amount of pressure.
[ Randall  Jul 06, 2018 ]

Hi, I installed the Metra Pocket in a 98 Tahoe during a resto/ mid. I at first had the same issue. If you closely follow the instructions and apply slow constant pressure it will finally pop into position. I was leary of so much force but it worked.
