Dash Kit

1993 Saturn SC2

I used this kit to install an Alpine UTE-42BT head unit into a 93 SC2. As with most aftermarket head unit installation's into older vehicles, some modification is usually necessary to achieve the proper fit. This included modifying the crossbar behind the stock radio. Because this kit mounts the head unit flush with the dash, it made the head unit contact the crossbar. In order to achieve a square fit with the dash, I cut the crossbar in half, horizontally, the width of the head unit. This made the head unit square with the dash and a place for it to rest on. If the head unit you are installing is the same depth as the stock radio's, or if you're just cramming it into the dash, then no problem! I used the stock radio's metal mounting bracket instead of kits plastic one. Overall a ok kit.

1993 Saturn SL

Overall it worked, however a few areas could use improving. One being the entire radio is left hanging by a plastic bracket, which I felt too flimsy , so used the metal one from the original radio. The second was the instructions completely ignored a package of screws and what to do with them (spare Parts) ? also the rear mounting spear on the Saturn is offset from center while the new radio has a centered mount with no provision for adapting. I installed the radio without the mount but would have felt more confident if it was mounted as intended. Also as stated by others the metal DIN tray is somewhat exposed after installation leaving a less than perfect finish.

Works .. be careful with that Utility Knife

Works well in my SL2. I agree with the other reviewer, the top could be stronger. The hardest part for me was cutting out the plastic for the old style knob radios with the utility knife. Super easy to use a hacksaw blade to remove the lip in the back inside the car, so I could use this mount, and it looks WAY better that the other Easy Fit.

It works, but....

As the title says, it works. Radio fits fine, matches dash, etc. But there are several things that could be improved. First, the edge of the metal radio sleeve shows on the outside edge of the dash panel. I "painted" it with a black Sharpie so it doesn't look awful, but it would be nice if it had a more professional looking cover. Second, the whole assembly is plastic. That's fine for the dash panel and the mounting tray. But the top bracket that connects to the mounting holes in the dash is far too flimsy to support the weight of the radio. I ended up taking the metal bracket off the factory radio. Finally, the price seems quite high, particularly since I had to do some modifications to make it work well. I bought a great radio (Clarion). It seems exorbitant to pay 25% of the cost of the radio for a plastic mount.

Not Exceptional, but Very Good

1994 Saturn SL1

It worked perfectly on my SL1 with a Kenwood receiver. Because it places the receiver flush with the dash, I had to cut out a plastic bracket which supported the factory radio, but the color matches with the dash color and it looks great now that it's finished. The plastic is pretty tough, and I had a hard time getting through it with a razor blade so it should last.
