Q
Did anyone have to modify the dash kit to fit the double din radio??

A
I forgot to mention that no modifications need to be made to the dash kit itself, unless you want to paint it. Very good quality. The DC power outlet is on the left instead of the right which I liked as well.

HI Kevin, I did this install last year on my 2004 Jeep Liberty. I upgraded with the Jensen VX7022 navigation receiver from Crutchfield. Highly recommend! Yes, you do have to do some cutting with a Dremel tool & cut off wheel. There is a black piece of plastic that has to be removed in the back of the cavity in order to make clearance. This Youtube video is what helped me out. The cutting part starts at 6:55, https://youtu.be/oM-SgW386jY VERY IMPORTANT: Once you get done cutting the tabs, use a big flat head screw driver to pry out the piece of plastic, it's glued to the plastic wall behind it! Overall it was a fun project. Your cuts don't have to be pretty no one will see it. Hope this helps! -Corey

I had to use a file to remove about 1/16" of material for the double din receiver to properly fit. Wasn't particularly difficult, but a tad frustrating that it need be altered at all.

No, the double din sits about 1/8 of an inch back from being flush with this kit but I did not have to modify or cut into anything. It still looks good.

A
Yes, we had to cut out part of the dash (the lower part that the factory radio set on) to get the double din radio to fit. Once we removed that part of the dash it fit nicely in the dash and front bezel.

I did not have to modify the kit itself. But you do have to modify behind the kit for the radio to insert into the dash itself.

I used this kit and had no problems on a 2002 liberty
[ Robert  Jan 31, 2017 ]
A
No, but your wiring may be causin it not to slide all the way back into position!
[ israel  Jan 31, 2017 ]
A
No not the dask kit but you do have to cut out a couple of pieces of the dash itself.

Q
Why is the cigarette ligher on the left side? Its susposed to be on the right side?Or is the picture just wrong?

A
The picture is correct. The dash kit does have the lighter on the opposite side from where the factory original is ( I don't know why) However, in my 2007 jeep liberty there was no problem installing the lighter on the left side. The wires were long enough and it didn't seem to hit anything inside the dash

It does come on the left side; however, it Is not an issue in the switching of position. We had ours installed and there weren't any problems with the change.

It's supposed to be on the driver side, the picture is right!
