Metra 95-7801 Dash Kit
David from Lagrange, GA on 5/8/2023
2000 Honda Civic
It did not fit the double din I purchased. Had to highly modify it to function. But after about an hour of work I got it to fit. Should have just saved the money and fabricated my own faceplate since that's the only thing used in my particular application. This much for a plastic square that I still had to fabricate. Others may not have this issue. I did.
Pros:
Cons: Didn't fit my application

A lot of waste
Randal from Ferndale, WA on 3/12/2023
Of all the stuff in the kit, I only needed the trim piece. It does not fit well. It's too big for the Sony deck I bought and has a big gap around the unit. The tabs don't fit right in the CRV and it rattles around. Crutchfield is great and sending me another to try. It seems like a lot of waste to produce, package and ship all this kit for 90% of it just to be thrown away. This is not a demerit on Crutchfield, Metra is the one producing the kit. Maybe Crutchfield could repackage it into the cars it goes with, but they shouldn't have to do that.
Pros:
Cons: Does not fit well with the double DIN deck I bought.

Dont waste your money.
Drew from Riverview, FL on 1/3/2023
1994 Acura Integra GSR
Absolute waste of money. I followed the vague and convoluted instructions as best I could when installing the head unit in. 94 Integra. When I was done, the radio sat loosely and rattled around in the dash. I've installed plenty of head units in the past and assumed this would have been an easy project but this kit resulted in a waste of 4 hours. There is nothing in this kit that firmly attaches the head unit to the dash; only cheap plastic that doesn't serve any actual purpose. I'm shocked that Crutchfield confidently recommends this and doesn't even offer other options for install kits.
Pros: None
Cons: Vague instructions (see link on this page), poor quality plastic parts, kit does not actually attach the head unit to the dash.

Conflicting instructions; Metra vs. Crutchfield. Fits loosely.
Erik from Texas on 12/5/2022
2002 Honda CRV LX
Firstly, there's a decent amount of plastic waste in this package. For 02-06 Honda CRVs you only use the faceplate, all else becomes landfill fodder. Minus a star there, not on Crutchfield. I followed the Crutchfield directions to the letter and cut the tabs indicated in their directions. The tabs are all marked by letters either on the face of the tab or the inside of the frame (some of them are small, so look closely!) however, I could not get this to fit correctly in my 2002 CR-V. It seems the two 'H' tabs on the bottom of the faceplate match up with the CRV's radio fascia so that makes sense. The two other 'C' tabs on the sides do not fit anywhere on my CRV's panels. The faceplate sits vaguely and loosely around my new Kenwood head unit. Disappointing. :\ I just reviewed the *Metra* instructions - which indicate to cut all tabs except for H and A! Different tab choice, I'm wondering if that would have made it fit... luckily this was the only frustrating part with my radio install.
Pros: It would fill in the gaps if it actually stayed in place. "Free" with purchase of a head unit.
Cons: Doesn't fit. Flops around uselessly.

Kit is very hard to use
Scott from Kensington, MD on 4/4/2022
1997 Acura 2.2CL
This kit is a major pain to use. It fits so many different models. It says remove all tabs except A and H, but A is not marked. The bottom brace that holds the stereo to the car does not line up, confusing instructions. I paid Crutchfield extra $ to have them do the wiring for the harness to make sure it was correct, that was well worth it, I would have definitely paid them to modify this Dash Kit for my car, what a pain, by far the worst part of the job.
Pros:
Cons: Poor instructions, not all parts marked. Fits too many models. No room for error.

Joseph from Palmyra, PA on 3/30/2022

This kit is just as terrible as other have stated. I bought a double din headunit for my 99 civic and decided to get this dash kit for it. My goal was to hope it wasn't as bad as people say it is and for it to at least be useable until I get something better. What I bought instead is literally just trash. The bracket I was supposed to use has terrible fitment and the quality of molding Metra uses for their injection molds is horrendous. It has flashing that needs trimmed away before it could even be used. I unfortunately was not able to discover this until I have trimmed off some of the tabs that are required to be removed before I can even try to use the bracket. I got lucky and the headunit I ordered (Boss be7acp) for my 99 Civic came with a bracket that fits nearly perfect.
Pros: None
Cons: Everything about this is a con

Crutchfield customer from Gulfport, MS on 1/3/2022

Not the best fitment for 2004 Honda CR-V. Was able to make it work and look good, but took a lot of time and fiddling. Had to trim tabs (not per the instructions), had to trim tabs off the factory dash panel also. Was a pain but in the end it fits OK. I don't think the average DIYer would have got this installed this clean (and I couldn't find any other pics/videos online that suggested they did either).
Pros: In the end I was able to make it work.
Cons: Poor fitment, instructions were not good, had to trim factory dash pieces.

Kit was trimmed per the included instructions but did not fit. Tried to utilize the trim ring with and without the aftermarket stereo's trim ring. Stereo was a Boss BV800ACP and vehicle was an '04 Honda CRV. The mounting brackets did not work either. I used the brackets and bolts from the OEM stereo but I could only use 2 bolts on either side. Still held in very secure. Would not recommend wasting your time on this dash kit if you have the same stereo and year/make/model vehicle.

2002-2005 Honda CRV Fitment Issues - Self Resolved; looks good
Crutchfield customer from Edgewater, MD on 7/12/2020
2002 Honda CRV EX
For the 2nd Gen Honda CR-V (2002-2005 -maybe 2006 as well-) there was an issue with the tabs and the fitment at first, however this was remedied with a Dremel and taking my time (I am by no means an expert). I only used TWO tabs on the bottom of the faceplate, and none from the top, and if i recall, two on the sides due to some clearance issues with the headunits bezel and the tight fit of the center console radio slot fitment. I paired this with the Kenwood Exelon 696s (2018 GPS multimedia, double din) None of the pieces are needed EXCEPT THE FACEPLATE (for my car)- As per instructions for the 2nd Gen CRV, you need to remove some of the tabs, which can be broken off, however, i would definitely use a dremel or a hacksaw/similar tool, as instructed. to avoid scratches, mask off other areas with 2 layers of painter tape. Then I had an issue with the top corner popping out, however, if you attach the faceplate WITH the CRV center console at the same time, the clamping force makes it stick better than attaching it all the way at first, or after (do it at the same time). Also, the little cutouts on top of the faceplate are good spots for routing the GPS antenna cable to the top of the dash You will have to make some minut further modifications to get this to fit, but it looks clean after.
Pros: Tons of extra brackets for near every honda/japanese car by the looks of it Looks clean
Cons: Use of a cutting tool/hacksaw/dremel is necessary (not a big deal for me) Instructions aren't very good for 2nd gen CRV Further modifications were needed to make it work

Metra 95-7801 Dash Kit
John from Eastern NC on 7/10/2018

I ended up tossing it, the finish was too different from the car dash and the new head unit. I did mount it and look and fit was OK, not great but for someone not as picky on looking almost OE and not wanting to cut and trim OE dash it's a very good option. I ended up using the trim that was included with the head unit and reworking the dash for clearance, the result to me is easily 10 times better than this kit.
Pros: Free, did fit.
Cons: Looked like cheap bandaid to fitment issue.

Lousy fit for 2004 CR-V
Steve from Silverton, OR on 6/17/2018
2004 Honda CRV LX
I had the same problem as many other people in this forum. I trimmed all the tabs except for the ones that I assumed were the H tabs, although they are not labeled as such. The trim ring will not pop in to the factory radio bezel because there is no clearance for the top clips to go deep enough and then pop up behind the bezel. I'm wonder if maybe the Scoche kit is any better.

Dash kit was actually very good, but the instruction sheet for my application - 99 Acura Integra were a little vague. I played with the kit a bit and figured it out, but reading alone did not help. that was the only reason it was not 5 star. They should also add that most tabs you dont need can be just bent and snapped off cleaner by using pliers. I used wire cutters only to discover this after.

Junk

This is garbage, cheap, flimsy, plastic garbage. For a 2004 CR-V, you'll only need the trim ring, and it looks terrible when finished. It doesn't fit well, so it's bent and uneven, and it doesn't cover the gap, so you're peering into the space above and below the radio. Used this to install a Pioneer MVH-X690BS, and it makes the whole job look like crap.

Honda/Acura Kit

2003 Honda CRV EX
I replaced the original radio in my 2003 Honda CRV because a CD was stuck in the player and I could not get it out. I purchased a Pioneer radio for this but there was a gap in the dash face plate because the Pioneer is smaller than the original radio. I bought this kit to close that gap. For my car, all of the mounting brackets were worthless. The plastic brackets that came in the kit had several different mounting points. The instructions tell you to brake off all of them for the 2003 Honda. That is probably correct because none of them aligned anyway. After doing so, you have no way to secure the radio in the dash. The only thing I could use was the gap filler that came in the kit. If doesn't work that great but it does close the gap.

Doesn't fit well on a 2005 Honda CRV. It leaves a gap all the way around the opening for that "I did it myself" amateur look. Terrible product. I followed the instructions for my vehicle very carefully and as you can see it didn't come close to fitting my car. There is no way to make it fit as its not tall enough. You can also see how poor quality the item is. The edges are not even straight they bow in. This was included as part of the purchase and a deciding factor on why I purchased my stereo from Crutchfield so I am hoping they provide me with a product that works otherwise unfortunately this will be my last Crutchfield purchase.
Pros: none
Cons: Instructions were difficult to understand. They item did not come close to fitting. Very poor quality plastic. The edges were not even straight as you can see they bow in.

As with most one-size-fits-all (or at least a lot of models) products, did not seem to fit well and the detachable face of the Pioneer AVH-4200NEX got stuck on it. Maybe I did not install it right. The instructions that came with it to describe which tabs to break-off conflicted with the instructions Crutchfield provided. I followed Crutchfield's instructions, but as was stated earlier didn't really seem to fit well for me. I ended up breaking it to get the detachable face unstuck... better it break than the face. It was free-99, so can't complain too much, but now there is a slight gap around the new head-unit.

Terry from Tennessee on 2/21/2017

Not great. For my application you only use one piece of the kit, the trim piece that surrounds the radio. It doesn't fit the best. The Crutchfield instructions were different than the Metra instructions. I followed the Crutchfield instructions and broke off all the tabs except the ones they specified. Now it doesn't securely fasten and I'm stuck because I broke off all the other tabs and the instructions specified. The Metra instructions specified different tabs to use but to late after you've already broken them all off.
Pros: None
Cons: Not a good fit if you follow Crutchfield instructions. Vague install instructions.

Only Used the Faceplate
Fred from Columbia, MD on 2/16/2017
1998 Honda CRV
Only used the face plate in my 1998 Honda CRV. Directions said to leave only the B and H tabs, I inadvertently took off the H-Tabs (short-ones on the bottom) because they weren't labeled. The flexibility of the plastic made it appear that it would be a sloppy fit anyway. I ended up taking my wife's hot glue gun and attaching the face plate directly to the console plastic which ended up creating a much more secure fit all around the face plate. This turned out to be a much better installation in my opinion. The face plate kit was thrown in at no charge and final install looked really good. So I made it all work.

It looks quite good. Only a single piece, the trim, was called for in my install. The instructions say: "Cut off all of the tabs from this part except the tabs labeled "C" and "H" This is wrong! tabs C will never connect, and, after you've broken off all the top tabs, the trim will flop from the top. I had to electrical tape this thing on. It's great that Crutchfield offers this (and the harness) for free, but bad instructions null out that bit. I'd rather buy something with proper instructions. Radio , Harness fine.

When ordering from Crutchfield, there were two sets of instructions that mention this kit. One is correct and one is misleading. I assumed incorrectly that the more complicated involved directions were more complete and wasted some time trying to get them to fit. Eventually I referred to the much simpler directions and found that only one piece, the front trim panel, was needed for the Kenwood dual din install in a 2006 Honda CR-V LX. Also the directions say to "cut" the unnecessary tabs. I found it much easier to simply use pliers to snap them off.
Pros: The one piece needed works fine.
Cons: The other dozen other parts, included, were not needed and added confusion and time to what was a simple installation.

Good kit if you take your time
Kurt from Ohio on 8/8/2015
2001 Honda Odyssey
Being a universal kit for so many vehicles, you really have to take your time and experiment with the kit to make it work right and look good. The directions can be very confusing and are not well written, so take your time and put the kit together step by step and you should be fine. It does take some tinkering to make it look good when you're done - like filing off the screws that attach the face plate to the assembly brackets. The end product looks very good and holds the radio well, but the directions are not well written, hard to follow and make for a frustrating experience.
Pros: Looks good in the end. Fits the vehicle perfectly
Cons: Directions are not well written Directions are confusing Assembly screws are too long

Tito from Iowa on 6/16/2015
Used this along with my Pioneer AVH-X4600BT for my Honda CR-V 2005 and it fit well, but not the best. Hence the 3 stars. It is a bit loose and the instructions weren't the best (neither along with the product or from Crutchfield).
Pros: Fits
Cons: Not the best fit

Metra 95-7801 Dash Kit
Shorty from Las Vegas, NV on 5/24/2015
2004 Honda CRV LX
Had to select 1 star as the system wouldn't let me leave with no stars. Very useless product with terrible instructions. Complete waste product. Did not need it with the radio I selected - and used the original brackets from the factory radio - and installed them on the new unit - this was basically worthless for my application - 2004 Honda CR-V.
Pros: Junk
Cons: Junk

It worked...eventually
Roboyt0 from Illinois on 5/5/2015
1998 Acura Integra GSR
I give it 5 stars for functionality as it, eventually, did exactly what it was supposed to do. It also makes the Pioneer AVH-X5700BHS look like it was made to go into the dash of my Integra. I don't do radio installations very often anymore, so this was my first in several years. Maybe others would know that you screw the trim ring to the ISO brackets you attach to the radio, but that information isn't relayed anywhere in the instructions. I made the mistake of test fitting the radio into the dash with the ISO brackets attached to the double-DIN...which caused it to get stuck in the dashboard...extremely frustrating. I ended up having to cut one of the corners off of the ISO bracket to get it out, so I could then figure out how to properly install it. Once a friend, who is a longtime installer, told me what I had overlooked it seemed as though it would be smooth sailing. That was until I realized the tiny, pan head, self tapping screws, that are necessary to install it properly were not included with the kit. I had to rummage through a bunch of screw bins to find something that was workable, tap the holes with the screw and then snip the screw down to 1/3 of its length so I wasn't screwing into the chassis of the Pioneer head unit. It was at this point that I also realized the corner of the ISO bracket I snipped off was where the trim ring was supposed to screw in to. It is holding more securely than I had imagined with 3/4 corners screwed together properly.
Pros:
Cons: If the instructions for installation in my 1998 Integra were anymore vague, the page would have been blank... -1 star for the horrendously vague and contradictory instructions -1 star for the fact that I will have to order a second kit to properly secure the trim ring to the radio...fortunately it's not that much -1 star for not including the screws necessary to attach the trim ring to the ISO brackets

JVC
Robert from Utah on 4/27/2015
2001 Honda CRV
Unit does all the functions I wanted, Bluetooth sync with phone was my no 1 feature. It connects most times without delay, sometimes takes a minute to two. Good sound, multi sources all fine, Eq settings a plus, clock resets as you cross time zones. External mic for phone is Excellent sound. Would recommend this unit for simple and quick install plus refurbished price cannot be beat.
Pros: Good fit in double din slot, mounting kit trim is nice finish.
Cons: Wiring harness fits car but still requires I join all loose wires to unit wiring, thought the point of buying harness was to have it matched to car And unit.

Too may unused pieces to confuse the installer.......
J from Alexandria, Virginia on 4/21/2015
It was a little confusing to get the best fitting pieces. Once the proper pieces were put together, it left some space and I had to glue a piece with black silicone to also fill a small gap.
Pros: Other than a couple of tweeking, it fill the space nicely.
Cons: I had to make a couple of small unspoken adjustments......

Piece of Junk
Spencer from Indiana on 4/11/2015
If I could give this zero starts I would. First, all you could ever use is the dash plate (rectangular piece of plastic that goes around the sides), all the other pieces are useless. the dash plate does not fit a Double din, it is TOO SMALL, so I used some sand paper to thin the edges and fit it, It breaks, I glue it back together, still won't fit. Then I realize that my car (2003 Honda CRV) has steel brackets that will work just fine. This product was not only a complete waste of money, but a complete waste of my time. It may work for some double din radios, but they should not advertise it as a universal fit, and it is WAY over priced. LOOK ELSEWHERE
Pros: Absolutely none.
Cons: 1. Expensive 2. Does not fit 3. Breaks easily 4. includes extra pieces that have zero use. I took a chance buying this, the reviews told me I was taking a risk. worst use of a $20 bill I have ever spent.

Pointless Kit
John H from Washington on 3/22/2015
1998 Acura Integra
The kit is useless, the instructions are terrible and to install a double din receiver into a 98 Acura Integra there were literally no parts used from the kit. I wasted 45 minutes hacking up a kit that I couldn't even use. Ended up just sliding the receiver in and wiring it up. The wire harness's are great.
Pros: None
Cons: Awful instructions, Cheap parts, screws missing, kit not needed for my vehicle.

will not work on my 96 integra. When the instructions say to "slap it together" I tried every combination there is and still no luck. Unfortunately, there arnt many other kits for a double din into an integra so get ready to get fusterated.

I received this kit when I purchased my Pioneer Double Din for free. I actually only needed one part of the kit which was the face plate. The universal face plate design worked out for me, but be prepared to use a dremel or rotary tool to remove the extra tabs because they do not cut easily.
Pros: -works fine with civics
Cons: -a lot of extra parts that i don't need -generic instructions

Could be better
CP from Arizona on 2/9/2015
2004 Honda CRV LX
Ordered through Crutchfield due to items that I have ordered in the past knowing that the radio add in are included. Spend a little more knowing that they provided these items. Harness was great, however the only item that I needed was the face from the face kit; which included a lot of other extras that were not required.
Pros: Easel fit.
Cons: Instructions not very clear on which tab to remove.

1999 Honda CRV
1999 Honda CR-V So, the kit is free which is a bonus. However, the instructions are horrible and nearly unusable. When installing the product you will have to use common sense and hopefully your solid Tetris skills acquired in the early 90's. My instructions call for the use of the side pieces which were not at all needed or useful ~ I reused the factory brackets. The only piece I used from the kit was the radio surround / bezel. This did fit very well and tightly into the Honda factory opening - the only modification necessary was the removal of all but two tabs on the top and all the tabs on either side or the bezel.
Pros: Free and ultimately what was needed to fill the gap in the dash.
Cons: Useless instructions. Cheap plastic components.

So-so on '03 Honda CRV
Mertz from Massachusetts on 1/10/2015
2003 Honda CRV EX
The dash kit was "free" so that's a plus. I used the OEM brackets to secure the unit. The installation instructions were not that clear to me and, most importantly, there is a small gap around and between the perimeter of my JVC KW-R910BT cd receiver and the dash kit frame. I used some thin black foam that I had lying around from a craft store to fill in the gap. I you didn't install the unit you might not notice the gap but I wanted the finished installation to look as close to factory tight as possible. I don't know if dash kits from other manufacturers would have been any better. Given that the Metra was included, I guess I can't complain too much but I wonder if Crutchfield could find better trim kit vendors.
Pros: It was included with the cd receiver.
Cons: Don't expect a factory tight fit (at least on an '03 CRV).

Kit comes with many parts , but only used the bezel which does an adequate job of filling the gaps. Other parts are not usable. Had to use oem brackets to attatch radio.
Pros: Kit is free.
Cons: Instructions not very clear

Use the bezel
JR from Illinois on 12/30/2014
There were lots of parts in this bag. Turned out the only thing I needed was the bezel. It worked fine.
Pros: Good instructions on how to trim the clips off the bezel to make it work. Went right in.
Cons: Seems a little cheap, but worked fine. Glad I didn't have to use the other pieces.

Dash kit worked ok.
Jay from Wilmington, DE on 12/19/2014
2004 Honda CRV EX
This kit worked well, except for the side attachment brackets. In consulting with Crutchfield, I decided to use the brackets from the original radio. That worked fine.
Pros: Fits dash nicely.
Cons: Side brackets did not fit, so I used ones from original radio. Additionally, the installation booklet was not clear about removal instructions, Then installation for a 2004 Honda CR-V EX.

Made of plastic and confusing instructions. I didn't use it as I don't trust its cheap plastic design and I couldn't get it to fit properly in an 06 CRV.
Pros: Came free with radio
Cons: Cheap crap

Chris M from Atlanta, GA on 10/28/2014
2006 Honda CRV LX
I received this product free from Crutchfield when I purchased a double din stereo for my car. At first glance, there are a lot of parts, and you would think that at least of them would be used... however, the directions are not clear, and the bezel did not fit the stereo I was installing. We ended up installing the stereo without using any of the parts from this kit
Pros: Free
Cons: Instructions not clear, kit tries to be too many things to too many different cars.

Metra 95-7801 Dash Kit for 2005 Honda Crv
RB from Memphis,TN on 10/2/2014
2005 Honda CRV LX
Totally unhappy with the kit. Had to call Tech for this kit,not the JVC unit. Poor instructions, "break off all the tabs except "C", but no tab labeled "C". Turns out,I tossed the whole thing except for the face plate which was poor fitting. I used the ISO brackets from my Honda radio, attached them to the JVC and then mounted the unit with the four bolts from the original radio. Bless the tech at Crutchfield who helped me find "C" tab. It's junk and frustrating when you spend the bucks and time to upgrade your radio and the whole experience is ruined by a cheap kit like this.

Basically unusable. I just used the existing metal mount and this for the trim but there was still a gab where the trim bows at the middle. Pretty poor all the way around. Glad it was free but who cares about free when it's worthless.
Pros: None really
Cons: Not usable. Has gaps. Looks bad. Doesn't hold stereo.

Not very good
bazookaman from Greensboro, NC on 6/22/2014
2004 Honda CRV EX
The trim kit came with a big bag of plastic parts. The majority of which were unnecessary for my 04 CRV. The single piece I used did not fit correctly and just hangs loose at the top.
Pros: It was free with my stereo purchase
Cons: Most of the parts included, I didn't need and tossed. The one part I did need, didn't fit correctly.
