Fits, but the documentation is WRONG!
Monte from Madison, AL on 1/24/2022
2006 Honda Pilot
I received this bracket when I bought an Alpine iLX-407 stereo. I was installing it in my 2006 Honda Pilot EX-L. The bracket comes in 3 pieces: left side, right side and face frame. There are 6 pieces in the package. The instructions say that one set of 3 is for the LX model and one set is for the EX model, which I have. The parts are clearly marked. I used the 3 EX parts and assembled it onto my new stereo, but it wouldn't fit in the dash. It was ¼" too tall to fit in the dash because of the angle of the brackets. The face frame was correct, but I ended up using the "LX" side brackets to get it to fit. So I used: LX side brackets and EX face frame. The parts were clearly marked WRONG. Metra needs to fix this issue!

Badly Labeled
Owen from Westport, CT on 5/2/2021
2006 Honda Pilot
Strangely enough, the pieces that have "EX" stamped on them are not for the "EX" model of car, it's completely unrelated. It added about 15 minutes to the install job because the instructions don't say which one is which, and you won't notice that you've chosen the wrong set until you're already putting it in. Otherwise, once I chose the second set of brackets, they fit great on my 2006 Honda Pilot EX.
Pros: Fit 2006 Honda Pilot EX perfectly
Cons: Horrible instructions and labeling

This worked out well but the words written on the pieces don't match the model of my vehicle, so I had to experiment with them to find the correct one. Added about 15-20 minutes to the project.
Pros: It worked fine with my system.
Cons: Not labeled clearly so you have to play with all the parts to see what fits in your vehicle. But it is all there.

Dash Kit for
Crutchfield customer from Melbourne, FL on 1/17/2020
I was able to modify this dash kit to fit my 2004 Honda Pilot EX-L with Navigation and new Kenwood radio/GPS. I had to cut off the plastic screw tabs from the side mounts, and file down the top and bottom flanges of the face-frame (that fit against the radio) to eliminate the curves as I needed straight flanges. I placed the modified plastic dash kit onto the radio, secured the OEM metal brackets, over the plastic brackets, to the radio. Finally, I screwed the metal brackets to the vehicle. The final setup looks really good with the vehicle dash reattached.
Pros: final product looks good
Cons: Required modification

This kit does not work with the Kenwood DDS6906S radio and possibly other double din radios on the 2007 model of Honda Pilots (LX) AWD without navigation. Trim bezels do not fit (too tall) of a lip. Side brackets do not put the radio in a position that allows the dash trim to be reinstalled.

Paul from Louisville, KY on 1/27/2019

This is not for the 2006-2008 Honda Pilot without NAV. The facelift for the 2006 model changed the dash and this does not fit into the factory hole. The Scosche HA1703B is the product that fits. Crutchfield lists it only for the 03-08 Pilot WITH NAV. This may work for the 03-05 model but not for my 2007.
Pros: zilch

Close..but not exact fit 2008 pilot
Fred from Cary, NC on 11/4/2018
2008 Honda Pilot
It was off. The mounting holes on the receive and the faceplate matched up perfectly. It did not fit into the mount correctly. Needed a 1/2 spacer on the top to set the angle right. Frustrating but fixable. Plus the slots should have been bezeled..the material is plastic and thicker than the metal mounts. Since it was a flat slot it could not use the original screws (too short) and I had to cut the plastic to slant the edges.
Pros: Faceplate looks nice
Cons: Fit is so-so

Not normal Crutchfield quality
James from Broomfield, CO on 11/1/2017

I have the same issues as mentioned in other reviews. Does not fit in a 2006 Pilot without loosening the screws which is not the best way to mount an expensive head unit. It would be great if Crutchfield would actually fix the issue. Looks OK but it is enough off to really bug me every time I look at the unit.

I ordered a Sony AX100 head unit & got it with the install kit including the Axxess steering wheel control interface, That included this Metra 95-7861 bracket. I got everything working & went to put the center dash bezel on & found it wouldn't fit because the head unit was sitting way too high. I called tech support & the only thing they could tell me was I must have put it together wrong. I explained there's only one way it can go together & they put me on hold for a few minutes. When they came back the guy said I wasn't the only one having this problem! He offered that Metra had a note saying it was real easy to install the brackets upside down & I should check. What I did do is google the problem & found this is a very common issue with that bracket in a 2006 Honda Pilot. It just isn't made right! I ended up buying a different brand from another source after reading reviews from people that had been down this same road. Sorry Crutchfield, but feel let down on this deal.

doesn't fit, but you can make it work
Keith from Frederick, MD on 7/23/2017
2007 Honda Pilot
The reviews about bad fit up on the Pilots are correct. There's no adjustment to this kit. That's a problem because it does not hold the new radio in the correct position and does not allow the fitment of the trim. I corrected it by installing washers at the top screws to tilt the unit down and allow the trim pieces to fit. However, once installed, the kit is not flush with the trim pieces. It's not terrible. My radio is installed and working so I'm happy. That's why I give it two stars. I sympathize with the people that have struggled with this kit. I just got creative to make it work. Also, it's cheap and flimsy. The more i think about it . . . . . not sure why I'm even giving it two stars . . . . .
Pros: None, but I do have my radio installed with it.
Cons: Doesn't fit. You need to get creative to get it to work. Weak and flimsy.

Buyer Beware
Crutchfield customer from MA on 5/28/2017
2006 Honda Pilot
Buyer Beware. This product does NOT work in my 2006 Honda Pilot. Even after the 40 minute support phone call that ended with blaming me because it has to fit...I must be installing it wrong. Seriously? There are three pieces that only fit together one way. Support rep was rude. Which is odd for Crutchfield. Second rep was better and offered another kit in case the first was bad. Ok, thanks. But the second kit had the same problem. So I called Metra (kit manufacturer). First words out of their mouth were "Yep, we know it's a problem with certain model Pilots. We're working on it." So thanks, Crutchfield, for selling me a product that doesn't fit and belittling my installation skills when I call for assistance. And for those that DO get this product and it doesn't fit, the only workaround I found is to loosen the bottom screws enough so there is "play", leave the top screws out, and then tilt the radio down as you re-install the factory trim. The finished product will be slightly loose and not the correct angle, but at least usable if you need to get it back together while looking for alternate solutions.

Metra 95-7861 Dash Kit
WILLIAM from Williamsburg, VA on 4/23/2017
2006 Honda Pilot
This kit is made from some lightweight plastic or composite material. And, while it seems inexpensively made and flimsy, it may have actually worked to my advantage, in this case. For my fit (a '06 Pilot), the unit lined up perfectly with the factory stereo mounting bolt holes... but due to it's designed angle, it seemed to be off by 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch when reinstalling the dash/stereo cover. However, because the material has some give to it, I was able to shoe-horn the stereo and kit into the proper position, allowing the dash cover to fall into place and the stereo to protrude where it should have (without gaps on any side). So, while the kit ultimately worked, I can't give it 5 stars due to a poor fit.
Pros: Inexpensive, lightweight material, easily assembled
Cons: not the best fit, I luckily made it work

Wrong kit for 2005 Honda Pilot w/Navigation
Dean from NJ on 11/6/2016
2005 Honda Pilot
I purchased this kit for a 2005 Honda Pilot EX-L w/Navigation to replace the factory radio in the bottom portion of the dash. Unfortunately, I was sent this kit, which is for the Honda Pilots without the navigation, where the radio is mounted at the top of the dash. The two models use different dash kits. Had to stop my install because I didn't have the correct part. Now I have to find the correct kit and complete the install on another weekend. Got the dash pulled apart, old radio removed, and cant finish the job.

The dash kit was not quite centered vertically in the dash opening. I holds the head unit too high by a millimeter or two. I like Metra, but this particular kit just seems cheaper than most I've tried. It's a 3 piece fit, and there are 2 different options for the trim. If you have an LX you will use the smaller face trim plate, if not you use the big one. It is a Tight fit! Took me a few tries to get it into place because I felt like I was prying the Head Unit to get it down far enough to pop it back together.

Metra 95-7861 Dash Kit for 2006 Honda Pilot EX
Matthew D from the Washington, DC Area on 12/27/2014
2006 Honda Pilot
Like others, I found the bracket was slightly off when installing a double DIN radio in my wife's 2006 Honda Pilot. The angle wasn't quite right--the deck was angled up too high, which meant there wasn't enough room at the top of the radio for the dash piece to fit, and a quarter inch or so gap at the bottom of the dash surround. To correct the angle and make it work, I added quarter inch thick washers behind the bracket for just the top screw on each side when attaching the radio. Thankfully the screws were long enough to catch thread, and that additional space angled the radio down just enough to get the dash in place. Once it's in and all the dashboard elements are in place, it fits and looks fine.
Pros: Ease of use
Cons: Poorly designed

Bezels were perfect fit. The mounting brackets didn't fit properly had to use washers for it to fit right in the dash.
Pros: Clean install
Cons: Brackets not molded properly for fit.

2005 Honda Pilot
My 2005 Pilot EX fits this Metra kit, but does not fit the Scosche kit. Scosche confirmed theirs won't fit all of the EX models. It seems Honda swapped parts in/out in the EX/LX models based on availability during manufacturing. I'm going to rig the Scosche bezel with the smooth surface and use the brackets from the Metra to get the perfect fit for my EX.
Pros: Fits my 2005 Pilot EX where the Scosche doesn't.
Cons: Bad finish, not smooth.

I used to this to complete a factory looking install. The trim ring is necessary to eliminate the gap.
Pros: Trim ring fit
Cons: Didn't care for the plastic side mounts but at this price point you can complain.

Not for a 2006 Honda LX!

2006 Honda Pilot
This didn't fit my 2006 Honda LX. The radio is set .25" to high and the dash trim will not go on. It can be modified to work if you have a dremel and a little skill. Need to offset the side mounts .25" down in the bezel frame.
Pros: The bezel fits fine.
Cons: Not for a 2006 Honda LX!

2008 Honda Pilot
I probably would have, and should have, stuck with the existing brackets that were in my 2008 Honda Pilot, but because these were shipped free with my new Clarion CX501, I decided to install using this kit. It's not the best fit, and it is slightly uneven (only noticeable if you are REALLY looking hard at one side vs. the other), but to the untrained eye, it looks like a nice, professional installation.
Pros: Free
Cons: Fit is a little wonky. Brackets don't line up well.

Recommended for a 2006 Pilot
TLN from Fredericksburg VA on 1/18/2014
2006 Honda Pilot
The parts by themselves are great. The side plates snapped into the faceplate securely and the finish on the pieces were blended into the dash well. The problem is that it just did not fit in my 2006 Pilot. It bracket placed the radio about 3/4" of an inch too high. I ended up purchasing a Scosche dash kit (PN HA1703B). It dropped in perfectly.
Pros:
Cons: It does not fit in a 2006 Pilot

BAD PRODUCT for Honda Pilot 2004

2004 Honda Pilot
I have a honda pilot 2004, this dash kit does not fit, Very poorly made product, had a huge gap between the face plate of the stereo and the face plate of Metra, Crutchfield had no resolution. The product finish does not match of the car's dash. I had to by a scosche dash kit, it fitted better and its build quality is so much better than Metra.
Pros: none
Cons: lots of cons

Does Not Fit 2007 Pilot
I had to shim up the top bracket attaches with 3/16" nuts to even get the radio to sit close to properly in the dash. The top of the stereo protrudes a bit, but is flush on the bottom, so I'll live with, but the bottom line is the kit doesn't really fit without modifications. Spent way too much time fiddling with what would otherwise have been a straightforward installation. I called Crutchfield, and they said this is the kit they have been using for years for the Honda Pilots - but that doesn't change the fact that the kit doesn't 100% fit.
Pros: None
Cons: There is a design defect with the brackets for the 2006- 2008 Honda Pilot without navigation version of this kit - doesn't work without modifications, and even then isn't perfect.

2007 LX Problem
RobertH from Fort Worth, TX on 10/25/2012
2007 Honda Pilot
This product appears to work for some Pilots in the year range given for it. However, it does not work for the 2007 Pilot LX model. When installed, the unit is too high, sticking out too far, and angled up at the wrong level. The trim piece cannot fit with this kit. I had to purchase factory brackets and glue the front trip piece in place to get this to look even half way decent. I didn't have the factory brackets since this was my second aftermarket stereo and I didn't keep the brackets on the first replacement. Sadly, there does not appear to be a kit out there that fits my Pilot, so there really isn't a better solution out there.
Pros: Multiple face plates
Cons: Does not fit vehicle

Seems to fit well and was super easy to install. My only issue was the two choices of face plates didn't have the "A" or "B" printed anywhere and I had to manually see if one would fit.
Pros: Looks nice, easy to install
Cons: No "A" or "B" printed anywhere for the different types of Pilots.

Kit is well designed but poor fitting. I had to put spacers (1/8 inch washers) behind the mounting brackets to tilt the unit forward so I could re-install my Honda Bezel
Pros: Ease of use The manufacturer did an admirable job of trying to help me fit the unit into my 07 Pilot
Cons: poorly fitting

Does NOT fit in '08 Pilot
Jessup from Dana Point, CA on 6/30/2012
2008 Honda Pilot
This kit does not fit the 2008 Honda Pilot as stated. The side bracket holes do not line up correctly to allow the head unit to angle down far enough to clear the factory dash bezel. I tried talking to tech support and they did not know why it wasn't working and didn't have a solution for me. I ended up adding two plastic washers behind the top two screws (switching the supplied screws with some longer one's I picked up) that connect the radio to the car. This angled the unit down enough to clear the dash bezel but it also makes the radio trim piece sit at an angle rather than flush with the bezel. Like other reviewers, I might try and make my own bracket and trim piece. I'm reluctant to use the factory radio (metal) brackets because then I won't be able to sell the OEM unit. Crutchfield is an amazing vendor and their products are almost always spot on, they really dropped the ball with this item. Maybe if we all bug tech support some more, they'll fix the issue and send replacements! One can only hope, right?
Pros: I technically didn't pay for it, since it was included with the purchase of my DVD Reciever.
Cons: It just doesn't fit. I had to modify everything about it AND purchase washers and screws to make it 'fit'.

No This Does NOT Fit
CHC from Northfield, IL on 5/18/2012
2006 Honda Pilot
For my 2006 EX-L, definitely this is not the right part for the job. Plastic brackets were too thick to fit where thin metal brackets were. I ended up pulling brackets from the OEM radio. Front bezel was right size without the head unit (radio). It did not have enough space for the the radio. I had to custom make them. Two things need to happen on this kit to be useful: Replace plastic bracket with metal one. Front bezel should have much thinner top and bottom. Don't bother with this kit. Just use the metal bracket from OEM and do something clever with the gap around the head unit. Black duck tape, maybe?

Metra 95-7861 Dash Kit
Crutchfield customer from Stationed in Germany on 1/25/2012
2006 Honda Pilot
DID NOT FIT 2006 HONDA PILOT! I'm in the US military stationed overseas, so I have to rely on organizations such as yours to get quality stereo products for vehicles. I've purchased my last 5 vehicle stereos from Crutchfield and I have NEVER had a problem with the installation. The adapter DID not align the stereo properly. In order to fix the problem, I pulled the brackets off of the stock stereo and attached them directly to the JVC stereo. This took away the attachment for the trim ring, so I have it just resting in the hole. I guess I can't go four-wheeling of the trim will come flying out! I am very dissappointed with this receiver kit.
Pros:
Cons: DOES NOT FIT 2006 HONDA PILOT!

Steve from Midwest on 7/4/2011

Does not fit 2006 Honda Pilot EX. When it's fully tightened the gap between the top of the player and the dash is 1/2". There needs to be over 1" for all the trim of the dash to be put back into place. I will have to get a different one to properly mount my head unit. Really inconvenient to have to pull my dash back apart to redo this. Not impressed, Metra.

does not fit the 2006 pilot
Sing from Pensacola, FL on 9/26/2009
2006 Honda Pilot
Kit does not fit the 06 honda pilot as stated. Holes in the bracket do not allow the head unit to angle down far enough to clear the factory trim on my 06 honda pilot lx. I had to go buy another kit. Even though, I had to trim down the bezel in order for it to fit the lx radio opening it did allow enough angle to clear the factory trim. The kit does not include smaller trim bezel for the lx model.

Metra DDIN dash kit

2006 Honda Pilot
I'm glad I didn't spend any money on this kit because it didn't work with my 2006 Honda Pilot and the new Kenwood deck I installed (DDX514). The bracket offset made the deck sit up too high so the dash panel wouldn't go back on around it. I ended up using the metal brackets that came with my factory stereo. Now I just have to figure out what to do about a trim ring.
