Plastic feels thin. It installed easy with my unit and lined up perfect on factory install holes. Plastic feels cheap. We will see how it holds up.

Great dash kit for prius.
Crutchfield customer from Oceanside, CA on 1/3/2021
2009 Toyota Prius
I used this kit to install a Alpine deck into my 2nd gen Prius. Overall I am satisfied. It wasn't too hard to everything lined up for a clean look. Be careful when installing because it is plastic and little flimsy. I would buy from this company in the future.
Pros: Fits well and looks good.
Cons: Flimsy material and could break if not careful during install.

Metra 95-8240B Dash Kit
Adalyn from Elizabeth City on 7/5/2020
2005 Toyota Prius
I just got my first car a 2005 Toyota Prius and I was looking to change the stereo. I purchased the Boss BN965BLC audio system. This item was recommended so I bought it. We installed it multiple times but the bottom piece would not fit. I am super frustrated and I feel as though it was a waste of money. My stereo does not look decent. I can't return it because my dad had to cut it so it would fit.????
Pros: None
Cons: The bottom piece does not fit in a 2005 Toyota Prius if purchased to go with the Boss BN965BLC stereo.

The plastic brackets are flimsy, but fit correctly. The adjustable slots for mounting the headunit are a pain, most of the time spent on the install, were spent removing and installing the headunit adjusting the mounting slots.
Pros: Fitment was great
Cons: time consuming install

It was free. Probably still too expensive.
Crutchfield customer from Mcdonough, GA on 6/28/2019

Plastic is bent and just over all looks cheap. I also thought that I would be able to keep the factory slot under the radio and there seems to be no way with my double din unit. I am going to try and make a replacement from the factory mount.
Pros: Free with a purchase.

Ok

Looks ok, not great. Would have preferred a plastic finish closer to the stock dash on the trim panel. Instructions on what holes to mount the brackets to would have saved some trial and error.

The kit is good, everything lines up, you have to screw it all together and unscrew it a few times to line up the radio correctly. It has the OE finish on the outside trim piece which is nice.

The faceplate is a perfect fit for my Prius, looks really professional and matched the dash around it. That portion is 5 stars. The mounting assembly is trash, extremely flimsy and pretty much worthless. Luckily the original metal assembly worked out fine on my new unit. One star on that. The resistor others have mentioned is definitely a pain in the ass to put in, and you have to be super careful not to accidentally cut one of the two wires you're splicing into. I also dropped some solder (not strictly required to do but definitely a good idea) on the floor of my car so now I've got that there forever. Unfortunately that seems to be something you can't avoid without messing up your climate control, not a fault of the part but it would be nice if they had a way to build in the resistor into the wiring harness or whatever.
Pros: Price, perfect fit for the dash
Cons: Plastic harness is worthless, luckily shouldn't need it as the original one can be reused.

Needs improvement, but you need it for installation
wayne from Oshkosh, WI on 6/24/2017
2005 Toyota Prius
The 68 ohm resistor installation is a disaster. They should have provided some shrink wrap tubing and connector pins so that it could be installed into the mating connector. That would have been the professional way. Instead, we have to settle for a hack job. 1 star. The plastic snap-in dash molding part that makes the radio look seamless to the dash looks good. 5 stars. The two plastic mounting brackets were not needed with my Kenwood DPX792-BH and are way too flimsy. Use the original metal mounting brackets instead for a much more robust and secure mounting setup as well as better chassis grounding. 2 stars.
Pros: Looks good in the end.
Cons: Flimsy mounting brackets which were ultimately not needed. 68 ohm resistor installation is a disgrace.

Looks good, feels flimsy
Bob from Bowie, MD on 3/27/2017
2005 Toyota Prius
Compared to the stamped metal brackets with the factory radio, the plastic brackets are flimsy and barely hold the radio in place. There's also a lot of play in the radio depth - getting it right is a royal pain. It does look nice when it's done, though. They also give you a random 68 ohm resistor to splice into an internal connector, with no explanation other than "you need this for climate control to work". This is apparently true, and also a pain to install.
Pros: Looks decent
Cons: Feels flimsy Hard to adjust

Fit my Prius and looks stock. I have a double-din DVD that swings open and it clears this kit perfectly. Kinda flimsy but solid when installed. Exceeded my expectations.
Pros: Fits and includes hvac resister if needed.
Cons: None.

Trim panel fits and matches perfectly. Used original steel bracket for new double din pioneer radio . Holes lined up perfectly. Just had to trim lower storage compartment.
Pros: Fit of trim, instructions
Cons: Use OEM steel bracket for 2 din

quick and easy to install - looks like it belongs in the car
Ryan from Ulster park, NY on 9/20/2016

Super easy to install the kit - black plastic matches the dash. Materials felt a little cheap but they look fine once installed.
Pros: Quick and easy and not too expensive.
Cons: Materials felt cheap. would be nice if it came with screws specifically designed for kit - make sure you save the screws from the factory pull bracket.

Good kit
Miguel V from Orange, TX on 9/11/2016
2008 Toyota Prius
I installed this in my girlfriends Prius to fit the double din unit I bought. The fit is perfect. I did not use the brackets that go to the left and right of the unit. I actually used the metal ones that come factory with the car. I really don't see why they are even in the kit. Since it was a double din I only needed the face plate that went around the unit. The color in my opinion doesn't match perfect but it's close enough. It only is noticeable in the right light. I think that issue should be brought to manufactures attention. But that's the only reason I gave it four stars. Other then the slight difference in color it is a perfect fit.
Pros: Great fit, easy to install
Cons: Color don't match perfectly

The fit and finish is just right. The kit I received did include the pocket. It uses the existing pocket to hold the mounting bracket together.
Pros: Fits well and has the needed clips and the resister.
Cons: I wish the mounting bracket was metal but nobody makes metal aftermarket mounts.

flimsy and does not fit well on 2005 Prius
Yeo from Skokie, IL on 5/31/2016

I end up using only the front/surface piece, as the plastic sides are simply too flimsy, and I end up using the factory sides. The front piece do not fit well with my Kenwood receiver on the 2005 Prius.
Pros: --
Cons: like a toy, too flimsy

Metra Trim Kit Commentary
Douglas from Tucson, AZ on 4/29/2016
2005 Toyota Prius
I conducted extensive research on which double-DIN trim kit to purchase for my second gen Prius. You have (2) brand options: Scosche and Metra. I read user review and watched videos of finished installs for both trim kits. The Scosche product has a graining to the trim. The Metra product has a smoother finish to the trim. I believe the Metra's trim will better match the shinny plastic of my 2005 Toyota Prius' dash. Note that if you have a later year second gen Prius-say 2008-the Scosche product may better match your vehicle's dash plastic, as the later years have a graining to them. User reviews of the Scosche product did not seem positive. A YouTube reviewer that installed both trim kits said that the Metra product has a better fit / seats better, compared to the Scosche unit. I will update the community once I receive the Metra double-DIN trim kit and install it.

Fits close enough, not quite as neatly as the OEM fit. But it does the job.
Pros: Easy to use.
Cons: Fit isn't quite as flush as the OEM bezel. Does not come with the pocket portion shown in the kit description. Use the original one from the car.

The metra kit that comes with it is by far the best fitting for the Prius. The Scoche kit has a nice wiring adapter that has no need to wire a resistor into. I did by the Scoche kit for only this plug and play adapter. Then used the metra for everything else. The metra kit fits like factory with even gaps and color/texture that matches perfectly.
Pros: Clean factory finish One of the best matches I have seen for any car kit Easy install and fits in easy to factory bolt locations. No tabs to break off or add on to fit your vehicle take out of package and install.
Cons: Resistor needed, the Scoche kit comes with a wiring harness adapter to keep the AC unit working.

installation package
Steve from Los Angeles on 1/6/2014
2004 Toyota Prius
does an adequate job of holding new unit but flimsy plastic doesn't instill confidence; trim surround piece for my car had to be modified to fit which seemed strange since all double din radios should be the same size
Pros: allowed installation
Cons: plastic flimsy, doesn't hold storage compartment in correct location, lack of specific instructions required many test fits (had to guess which holes to use); trim surround had to be modified
