Feels very cheap compared to the factory radio. After 7 years it has started to random start displaying everything in Chinese characters. Still faintly visible after the car and retained power shut off. Hope it isn't draining my battery while I'm at work.
Pros: retained factory features
Cons: GM's fault that it is even required to add aftermarket equipment.

Does the job

2006 Pontiac G6
It fits perfectly in my car and blends seamlessly into the dash. I wish Metra put more thought into the display to make it a little more in this century. It looks older than my factory radio display itself. The buttons are squishy, but you don't use them as much when its not tied to the radio anymore. As the only option for retaining the driver info center, it does the job. Crutchfield provides excellent instructions on how to disassemble the dash of my car, which is fantastic considering how much work it is to replace the stereo.

Nice fit; easy install
Forrest from Covington, GA on 8/24/2018

Looks nice; the display is kind of 8-bit retro. Had an issue immediately on the first one; Crutchfield replaced it immediately. Buttons are a little squishy and don't always make contact. All my '07 base-model Malibu DIC functions seem to work. My new Kenwood single-DIN mounting sleeve slipped right in - I appreciated the Metra-supplied spacer to move the receiver "out" about 3/8" - looks better.
Pros: Fits well; all works; retains all my DIC functions
Cons: Display is old-style; buttons feel cheap; expensive - cost more than the Kenwood receiver and four MTX speakers!

Over-priced piece of junk.
Alan from Corpus Christi, TX on 1/23/2017
2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
If this unit cost less, then I'd say it's worth it. But for the price you have to pay for it, it's a ripoff. My 2006 Malibu Maxx has the rear-seat entertainment console (RSE) People in the back seat can play DVDs or listen to CDs with headphones. When the factory radio is installed, it works perfectly. But when this Metra junk is put in, the RSE won't even power on. I contacted Metra directly, asking them what I have to change to make it work properly and this is what they replied with: "...we have nothing to keep the rear seat entertainment in these vehicles since they only work with the factory radio...We don't have a solution for it." Metra doesn't get that the whole point of buying their overpriced adapter is that we don't WANT to be stuck with the factory radio! Also, the buttons are flimsy and make poor contact. Sometimes you have to press the button really hard, and several times in a row, in order to change the menu options. There are only 3 of them, so it's not like they saved a ton of money by using faulty buttons. You'd think that for the price, they'd put on buttons that work. I do not recommend this product, or anything else by Metra.
Pros: You do get to keep SOME of your car's functions.
Cons: You only get to keep SOME of your car's functions.

Works As Intended
Crutchfield customer from Milwaukee, WI on 1/11/2017
2007 Pontiac G6
Overall, it works just as intended and I didn't have any issues with it. However, the instructions that come with it are terrible for someone who's completely new to putting in a car stereo. If you're an experienced person you won't have any issues at all. I wish Crutchfield had a instruction sheet of their own for this kit, since I had no idea what to do with the wiring harness or how to connect the wires from the stereo. It may not be clear from the picture but both the screen and the buttons are backlit. The screen quality is pretty poor compared to the screen that comes with the factory radio, and the display can get quite slow when its cold outside. The buttons also require a bit of a push to switch between modes. I wish for the high price the quality would be a little better, but its the only thing of its kind out there. Overall, I'm satisfied with it but if there was a competitor with a better quality screen or buttons I would go there.
Pros: Works Easily Backlit Seamlessly Blends In With Car Plastic
Cons: Poor Screen Quality Squishy Buttons Bad Instructions For Beginners

Chad from Bowling Green, KY on 12/28/2016

The kit does everything on my 2007 Malibu. The entire message center and chimes are functional through this device. You will loose the steering wheel controls but there is a separate device for that. The only negative aspect is the price. There is not much to this unit to justify the price but there is really nothing else on the market that I could find to keep the message center information.
Pros: Works as described: complete message center and chimes. Plastic is a direct match to factory components
Cons: Price for what it is.

Keep your DIC...but pay for it!
Thomas from NC on 10/6/2016
2007 Pontiac G6
The Metra 99-3303 does what it claims. Construction seems a little cheap for such an expensive adapter. If you have a Pontiac G6 GT Convertible you do not want to lose your DIC alerts that tell you the status of your top position. So I would like to thank Pontiac engineers for integrating the DIC into the radio and costing me way too much when a much less expensive adapter would have done the job. Best way to buy it is as a kit from Crutchfield.
Pros: Works great. Provides all info that was available from the stock display. Easy to install.
Cons: Way too expensive for an adapter. Some what cheap construction.

Perfect item at the best price you can find, period.
Odaat12 from Illinois on 5/28/2016
2008 Pontiac G6
This product exceeded my expectations. As the model is known for, the CD player in the stock (non-Monsoon) radio in our 2008 Pontiac G6 went bad, but to replace it is a hassle because of its custom size and the fact that the radio is coded to the car originally. You could put in a single din receiver or other full size, but you lose the car's information system features....unless you use this awesome little product. ALL of the functions I had before work, and, frankly, it looks nice than the original. Best of all, I looked all over for as good price on this, and hands-down, when you buy it from Crutchfield with a receiver, it is the absolute lowest price available anywhere, period. We are very happy with the mix of this item and a Pioneer receiver and speakers we installed, all from Crutchfield.
Pros: It's a solution to the GM vehicle information system problem when putting in a replacement receiver.
Cons: None.

Daniel from everett, MA on 2/15/2016
2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
Installed this into a 2004 Chevy Malibu Maxx, working perfectly well - displays outdoor temp and time, and performs all the functions of the trip computer that showed up on the factory stereo. The brightness control was difficult to get working (I made the adjustment during the day, maybe the levels were just too close together to tell in the light), but everything else works as you would expect. The plastic bevel around the screen is fairly deep, so with the unit positioned near the bottom of the dash, it makes it a little hard to see the characters. It replaces all the trip computer functionality that you lose when you take out the factory stereo, so it does the job adequately, but it's definitely not an upgrade from the original display.
Pros: works!, Trip computer, bright display, outdoor temp readout
Cons: hard to see number because of the bevel, mushy buttons

A real MUST have for a G6
JoeBlog from Kansas on 12/19/2015
2006 Pontiac G6
I wasn't going to consider swapping out the Monsoon system in my G6 if I couldn't keep the Status Display. Metra really came through with this product. Once the harness is put together with the radio, it's essentially plug and play from there. I've read complaints about the buttons, but they work well enough, and they're color customizable too (it also helps if you're doing the adjusting at night so the changes are more visible). I've matched the new head unit and the Metra button colors to the dash panel color of my car, and it doesn't look out of place (the LCD display doesn't change colors though). I'm happier now that my status display is still there, the new head unit fits into the Metra perfectly, and I didn't need an electrical degree to get it all to work. And with Crutchfield tech support having my back, I'm more confide than ever that I'll be able to enjoy this setup for a long time to come.

This kit fit nicely inside my G6's dash. The buttons work pretty good, but I wish they were more responsive. The screen looks good - very clear and easy to read, but the white-color backlighting is there to stay. The rest of my dash is lighted red, so it's a little out of place. Not a huge deal, but a multi-colored screen is something that should be looked into.
Pros: Clear screen. Fitment is good.
Cons: The screen is white, but really should be multi-colored to fit a range of vehicles. The buttons are so-so responsive.

Factory settings
Metra 99-3303 from Canton, NC on 4/8/2014
2006 Chevrolet Malibu
For the price you pay it should include the steering wheel controls too. Unit works and displays everything the factory did. The biggest problem is the buttons do not instantly change settings, they are not hard to push it's just that you have to push them multiple times for it to change. One would think that with technology today this would have been ungraded by now. Don't get me wrong I like the information like time, temp, trip, gas mileage, oil change etc, but this is the only way to get it. I really wanted a double din touch screen unit but it's not available with the information system. A little retarded but it is what it is.

Cons: buttons doesn't work the way one would think they should.

You NEED this
Amit from New Yrok on 3/26/2014
Okay, let's just face the facts: you NEED this product. GE, in their infinite wisdom, tied the very important Driver Info. Center to the stock stereo. There's no getting around it. This is the only product on the market that I have been able to find which allows you to put an aftermarket stereo in an 05 Malibu and keep the DIC. Thankfully the product is good. The black ABS material looks exactly like the cover to the AC controls that lie underneath, so it really matches the interior. The display and buttons themselves are functional, if not the prettiest thing in the world. The buttons are a little mushy too. They feel spongy, they don't have the sharp feedback and response I would have liked. Sometimes it takes a few tries to get them to register, but this is a minor complaint. You can customize the back-light on the buttons (not the display) between red and green, to better match your stereo. Installation was simple (although taking apart the dash to get to the radio wasn't, but that's GE's fault.) You just plug it into the wires in the car (the kit includes the appropriate wire harness) and you're good to go, no need to reprogram any computers in the car. The only other thing I will mention is that the single DIN stereo I purchased sits a little bit sunken into the adapter, it's not flush with the surface. There is a plastic sleeve that allows the stereo to sit forward about a half of an inch, but I didn't notice it until after I have already installed the cage.
Pros: Matches standard Malibu interior. Works right out of the box. Allows installation of aftermarket stereo. Lets you keep the DIC. Kit includs correct wire harness.
Cons: Mushy buttons, uninspired functional design.

2007 pontiac G6
Marc from Houston, TX on 7/10/2013
2007 Pontiac G6
Required for aftermarket head unit install on pontiac vehicles. Works as described for the most part, color change options are for buttons only (green or amber), the display is backlit white. Display brightness is adjustable (and dims as well), but needs to be set on any level lower than the highest setting for dimming to work, and only dims while interior lights are on via auto or switched on manually (during the day the display will be at full brightness). This will keep your retained accessory power and chimes, but the only thing this will NOT provide is an illumination wire hookup for most head unit harnesses. I had to wire mine separately to a switched 12v accessory line, all other wires will match color to color. I was told by Crutchfield support that the PAC OS-311B would provide this illumination wire if you need it, but my vehicle doesn't have OnStar or steering controls and this provides RAP/chimes, so the extra expense was not justified. Keep in mind that with the pontiac some menu options are not available while you're driving, so if you're having trouble getting into the info+menu options or other options, try it while your car is in park (mine would back out of the menus automatically sometimes). I have read that without this device, you may start getting error codes from your BCM about airbags and other systems without this installed-- your mileage may vary and this may be a hit or miss issue for your vehicle.
Pros: Allows install of aftermarket head unit, half off when buying with head unit (cheapest price I've found online), matches trim on my vehicle, does it's job providing information.
Cons: Buttons are a little sticky/soft and don't register all of the time on first press (info button is worst), but it's not a huge deal if you rarely use them like I do-- I only reset one of the trip counters after I fill up, and pretty much leave it on the time/temp screen. As mentioned by a previous reviewer, the brightness on mine DOES flicker brighter sometimes at random, usually happens less frequently as I turn the dash brightness control down further.

Metra 99-3303 Dash and Wiring Kit
Crutchfield customer from Mentor, OH on 4/22/2013
Love having the DIC. Easy to install. Looks good, some reviewers mentioned it has a cheap feel to it. I found it to be good quality and was surprised at how well it matches Malibu interior. Easy to operate. At full price, it's too expensive. I paid half with purchase of new head unit, still a tad high considering it's not much more than a display with 3 control buttons. As others mentioned, the buttons are a little finicky, you have to press them hard. Will just have to get used to this.
Pros: Retains use of DIC, ease of use, looks good
Cons: Price

Good solution to a tough problem
MitchB from Medina, OH on 3/30/2013
2005 Chevrolet Malibu
Product does what it says it does, and its a good thing; without this kind of product aftermarket radios in this kind of vehicle would be useless.
Pros: Does the job perfectly
Cons: Buttons have to be pushed hard, and the back light is somewhat flaky. Other reviews have said that it is too bright and fixed, thats an RTFM problem - the unit has a settings mode that lets you change the active brightness. That said, at least on my unit it occasionally flickers brighter than I have it set. Weird but only mildly annoying.

Didnt need
Gram from Detroit, Mi on 1/26/2013
2005 Chevrolet Cobalt
1st off, the 05 Cobalt does not require this equipment. The data is still displayed on the instrament cluster on dash, so now i have two displays of the same info. It would have been cheaper to just go with the adapter intead of this, and the added space would have been nice under the head unit. 2nd off, its ugly. Looks cheap, and the black housing does not match the siver plastic of the center dash. 3rd off, How does GM justify routing all dash data through the frickin head unit?! I understand that in the more expensive models the display is actually in the radio display, but not all their vehicles. This was bull from the start. GM must have a side intrest in the company that makes these units.
Pros: It displays what it claims to
Cons: cheap looking - expect more for the price. Un-needed in 1st place.

On overpriced, cheap made necessity if you want to install an aftermar
Luis from South West, Missouri on 1/3/2013
2007 Pontiac G6
This is something that unfortunately you need to be able to install a aftermarket stereo in you Pontiac vehicle, however this product is cheaply made. Display is way to bright with flimsy buttons and and cheap back on the display. It should be able to be removed from the bezel that way you can choose to mount it on the dashboard or to just hide it in the glove compartment if you choose to install a double din.
Pros: Only pros is that it allows the use of aftermarket stereo. Nothing special about it.
Cons: Flimsy buttons, bright display, overly priced.

Necessary accessory to install an aftermarket stereo in a mid 2000's Malibu. It works, keypad response is a little slow, but on the other hand, keeps the time and temperature display available regardless of that is shown on the main units display
Pros: See above. You don't have to mute the stereo main unit to see what the time and temperature is like with the factory radio/cd player
Cons: Key pad response is a little slow, but it works.

2005 Pontiac G6
First of all, I didn't install this into my dash so I can't speak for fitment. I wanted to keep my DIC in my 2005 Pontiac G6 but I also wanted a double din stereo so I extend the wires and installed it in the glove box. Everything works, but like many others have said, the buttons are not reliable. They take several pushes to get the information to change on the screen. It feels like a low quality part, especially considering the cost. I gave it 3 stars, based on the button functionality and the cost.
Pros: Crutchfield discount when ordering with a stereo. It works.
Cons: Cheap, flimsy buttons. Still expensive even with the discount.

2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
After installing the first one and finding out that it was defective I was not pleased to have to take it back out and wait to do it all over again only to cross my fingers that the second one will work. Luckily it did. Crutchfield was great throughout the whole thing, from the great tech support and troubleshooting to the overnighting the second unit. I feel like they should send you three of these at once and hopefully one will work and then send the others back. The second one is working fine for now. The buttons don't always work the first time you press them. Cheaply made and over priced but it does the job.
Pros: Let's you keep the car info and does what it says.
Cons: Too many defective units, cheap parts.

Chase from Salt Lake City, UT on 6/3/2012
2006 Pontiac G6
I installed this dash kit in my wife's 2006 G6 over the weekend and so far it seems to be working exactly as it is supposed to. As others have commented the buttons are a little flimsy but they all work and since we rarely change the settings these buttons will hardly get used. The color of the plastic is very black and does not exactly match the rest of the dash, but this could very well be do to fading from the sun. The LCD screen is very bright. Even with the brightness turned all the way down, and contrast adjusted to increase readability this LCD is still brighter than our new Stereo's screen. Not a deal breaker but something that will take some getting used to. Installation went very smooth. This kit came with all of the necessary parts including the wiring harness. I opted to solder all of my connections and seal them with heat shrink tubes to get the best possible connections but this installation could easily be done with either electrical tape or wire caps.

Chevy/ Pontiac OEM Dash Adapter
Jeff from Columbia,SC on 2/18/2012
2007 Pontiac G6
The OEM Dash Adapter in my G6 looks great , easy to hook up with the original connection , direction Crutchfield sent were very helpful . I like the display under the PIONEER DEH-4400HD CD ,We installed in the car . The only thing I found when installing the Din for the radio is that the thickness of the adapter around the screen display wouldn't allow you to bend some of the tabs over to lock it into place .Other than that everything is working with no problems. The price was well worth it .
Pros: The Adapter was easy to hook up and install, keeps the DIC and other car information available for you to see. Will buy this product again.
Cons: The thickness of the LCD screen with the aftermarket radio Din ,you are limited to the amount of locking tabs you can bent down . That's all I see.

2005 Chevrolet Malibu
I was worried after reading the other reviews about this product. However I was pleasantly surprised, the item looks nice and fits well with the trim of the vehicle (Malibu). I like having the information center separate from the stereo as it makes it easier to read. My only complaint was the lack of documentation. It came with several accessories but no instructions on how or when to use them. I was able to get everything installed but I'm not sure it was 100% done correctly. I had to solder the connections from this product to the stereo (no easy adapter). However the end product looks nice and is functional. I have only used it a week so I can't say anything regarding it's reliability.

Ordered this because it was required with system in car. First one did not work...nothing on display screen & front speakers did not work. Called tech support & they had me try a "reboot" you might call it. Cycle the ignition key 5 times (this was not in the instructions that came with unit). Still did not work. Tech support was excellent I must say. Shipped me another one. This one worked with no issues (so far). Hope it stays this way.

bad product
Rich54 from Fort Mill, SC on 7/24/2011
The Metra unit worked as it was supposed to at first, but eventually every function of it died. It's a piece of junk, not built to last and now it is preventing my car from starting somehow through the vehicle theft deterrent system. I am going to remove it and reinstall the factory radio. I have no choice. It's no doubt GM has done this on purpose to prevent the installation of after market radios. And if a product like this was available of good quality I would keep using an aftermarket stereo. But as it is, there is no viable alternative to install other than the factory radio.

Super easy to hook up. (Posi-connectors rock) Looks good. Buttons feel a little funny but who cares? Kept all the information just like it said it would. Crutchfield offers 50% off with purchase of a unit so the price was right. I used the spacer and the DIN sleeve didn't have suitable tabs to lock the bottom or I would have given 5 stars.

No Other Option
Krides from Portland OR on 4/13/2011
This is not something you purchase because you want it, you purchase it because you need it. If you've already read other lukewarm/negative reviews then you know what I'm going to say. The installation was fairly straightforward but the first one stopped working within 6 hours. It had a blank read out & passed power straight through it regardless of whether or not the key was on. I called customer service, walked through the wiring, cycled the key & they graciously agreed to send me another. The next time I turned my car on it worked just fine. When the new one arrived I went ahead and installed it fearing that the first one would fail again. The second one completely died in 36 hours. No read out, no power to the stereo nothing. I pulled it out and put the first on back in. So far no further issues. Yes, it has a cheap feel to the buttons and the general appearance of the LCD but thanks to GM I had to buy it or lose the driver's data & fail our local emmisions testing. Local retailers wanted $200 for it, Crutchfield sold it to me for less than half that with the purchase of my new deck and they stood behind it even though it's no where near the quality of the other products they carry. I really appreciate that fact.

This product is okay. It looks fine in my car it matches the black in my G6 perfectly. And it seems to work fine now. The main problem that I had with it was when I had it put in my car, it would turn on my new radio when I was not in my car. It ran my battery down the first night. I had to take it back to the place that installed my radio and the had to re-wire it another way to keep it from doing that and that ended up costing me more money. So that's something to watch for. Another thing is someone said that the buttons were hard to push and the info button is kinda touchy. Sometimes I have to push it just right or a couple different times to get it to change. But I do like having it in my car now that I got the one problem fixed. I would miss not having the temp and stuff in my car if I didn't have this. And it has everything else that my factory radio had except the clock which of course is on my new radio so no big deal.

Not at all satisfied with this product. First of all the clock on the information center was not retained. The size of the fonts on the display are much larger than the factory radio however the position of the display is not easy to read from the driver seat. And the dimmer adjustment for the screen is quite cheap and not at all sensative to adjustment. Overall it does function and was very easy to install but needs to be updated in quality.

Adequate
James from Saint Paul, MN on 12/23/2009
Bought this is install a JVC KD-S100 stereo into my 2007 Pontiac G6. It made installation very easy, and retains the DIC. Living in the Northland, I did notice one thing - it doesn't correctly display temperatures below 0! For example, instead of it displaying a -2 degree temperature, it shows the temp as 253 degrees. It appears to be a computer / software issue - maybe Metra could upgrade this somehow. Otherwise, this is a good adapter, and allows GM owners an option to upgrade their factory stereo.

Works
Mike from Syracuse, NY on 8/3/2008
I put this in my wife's 2007 Chevy Malibu Maxx with an Alpine CDA-9884 head unit. The head unit itself came with a blank dash kit which would have worked fine, but you disconnect the computer screen in this car you will get engine warning lights. Here in NY, you cant have that if you plan to pass an inspection. So this was sort of an after-thought order. Crutchfield, being the angels of car audio that they are, still honored the 50% off deal because I bought an Alpine unit. Good peoples. The install was fine, the harness was more than adaquate. I had to integrate 2 other modules, one for steering wheel controls and one for factory car audio chimes and power managment. Not hard. Installed, it looks a little odd. The 1 line of LED text is obviously different from the factory screen, a bit more crude if you will. But it does its job, the required info is still available (mileage, odometer A and B, timer, oil life, etc). Looks fine. Definitly worth it for this car.

..it works. Ill say that much for it. It keeps all trip, mileage, mpg, etc., like the factory one. But to market this as a suitable replacement is lunacy. The dash kit itself is alright. Everything lines up and installs perfectly in my '06 G6. The color/texture is all off, but thats livable. The wire harness is a little awkward, twistix will come in handy :) My real beef with this thing is the LCD panel and controls. The LCD is old school with simple backlighting, although after adjusting the contrast, its fully readable at all times. It also lets you change the button backlight color to red or green, but not the screen... The buttons to control everything work as they should, but you have to really mash them to get a response. All in all, this thing feels really cheap, which is not the price I paid for it! Add to that, it doesnt match my dash, at all, and the LCD seems to flicker when anything more than a snare drum is played. This gets a 2, only because it let me keep my trips and temp. I mostly blame GM for the fact I had to buy this thing, but for $190, they can make a better product. Seriously.

It works
I put one of these in my 06 g6 GTP coupe about a year ago (formerly with the monsoon, no on-star) with a pioneer deck and it worked fine. My only complaint is that you can't control the backlighting to match the red of the g6 (green or amber on buttons only, no backlight dimmer control). If you want a clock be sure to buy a deck with a clock. Other than that you can only show one stat at a time where the factory deck had temp + selected stat/warning. I'd buy a new version if they came out with a better match for the car's interior but I'll never go back to the monsoon system!

What happened to the clock?
Pontiac G6 from Clearwater, Mn on 5/2/2007
I have a Pontiac G6. Crutchfield packaged this kit with the Sony CDX-GT410U CD Receiver and sold this to me as kit to fit my G6. The fit is good and the mounting is excellent. It came with proper instructions to take apart the car interior in order to properly remove & replace the existing stereo. I was disapointed with the wiring harness. I was under the impression that buying a kit from Crutchfield came with custom wiring harness already soldered for the matched head unit. Unfortuneatly this is a false assumtion as I had to solder/crimp the wires between the stereo head harness and this mounting adapter wiring harness. The good thing is that I did not have to cut into any of the factory car wiring. The display font size (read out) is larger than the factory one. However the clock is missing. I really miss the clock and this is the main reason I gave it a mediocre rating. It would be nice too if the mounting was such that you could choose the stacking position of the head and the diplay. However the the display part has to be below the stereo head as this permantly fixed. Because of the lower location (the G6 read out was above the stereo) the top of the font is cut off a slightly (this could be a result of the larger font size too). Other than the location and the missing clock the unit works exactly like the factory. Even the back lighting works with the instrument cluster dimmer.

Would be great if not for design flaw
Bob from Colorado Springs, CO on 1/30/2007
2005 Chevrolet Malibu
I am on my third one of these in just a few months, and looks like I'll need a FOURTH one. The problem? Half of the display has a habit of going bad. The first one I got was bad out of the box. The right side of the display didn't work. I returned it, and got another unit that worked for a while until the same thing happened. I exchanged it for the one I have now (#3) and the SAME thing has happened to it. According to Metra, there was a lot of them with bad displays. It looks like Crutchfield may have all of them. The display went bad on the current one when I had to jump start the car. It was around 12 degrees, and the car hadn't been run for a about 36 hours. The car battery wasn't "dead" (the lights came on, etc) but it needed a jump start to get it started. When it came on, half the display was out. Again. Crutchfield has been great through out all of this, but this is just a shoddy product. If I wasn't a long-tine Crutchfield customer, and was overall happy with their prices and customer service, I'd probably never be a Cructhfield customer again. Scosche is making a similar item, and I urge Crutchfield to looking into selling it instead of the Metra product.
