I'm not a jerk. I give 5 stars when you simply just "do your job". Now for the rest of the story. I'm not blaming Metra for the design. That crap is all on Ford. Anybody else who has bought this kit for a Taurus will know what I'm talking about. The problem was when I made the speaker connection in the trunk. Basically, the harness fit, but wouldn't work. Only way I could get it to work was to cut the harness out and hard wire 8 wires. Is that Metra's fault, Ford's fault? Doesn't matter to me right now. I used contact cleaner, tried and tried for about an hour. Gave up, hard wire. Done and done. All and all, my daughter is thrilled that she can now use Bluetooth, that's all that really matters to a dad. My advice is, DON'T BUY A FORD!! Have a good day.

When I bought this immaculate 2007 Taurus for work, I ordered the first kit from an online auction site, low and behold pass side airbag light was not an icon on that kit, which set off the airbag light on the dashboard, Crutchfield's kit, had all the proper wiring and icon, dashboard light is off, piece fits better, looks 100% factory

Pros: Everything fits correctly, perfect wiring harness, great instructions

Antenna and HVAC problems

Tom from Silverado, CA on 12/23/2017

2006 Ford Taurus SE

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

This install has been a nightmare. Some of it is Ford's fault for splitting the radio, with the receiver and amp in the trunk and the controls all over the panel instead of just on the head unit. But there are also problems with this kit. Problem 1, look at the <5 reviews and see how many are saying their HVAC knobs fall off. These are the original knobs on the original switches. This kit did not give you switches with a different shaft size or knobs. What the kit did give me is mounting holes that are too large. The instructions say to remove the 5mm screws and use those screws to install the switches in the new face plate. Wrong, they bottom out. Holes are too big. I used screws with wider threads, and washers, and got the switches to mount tightly. Have had no problem with loose knobs. Problem 2, the antenna connection. My new stereo has no radio reception. Surprised to see no mention of this in the ratings for the kit, but look at reviews for the 40FD10 adapter. People say that it wasn't needed for their Taurus, because the kit had the right connector. Some say even though it doesn't look like it fits it does, or had to grind it. Look at your pic of the 40FD10, male to male center conductors. Factory antenna cable has a male. This cannot work. And I get no radio. This is big, there are millions of Taurus cars out there. Used to fight Camry for best US seller. Crutchfield techs, please figure this out.

Pros: Gives you the long adapter cables, which are necessary for these vehicles.

Cons: Antenna connector does not work, and Crutchfield appears clueless as to exactly what is needed here. Also mounting of HVAC controls.

I purchased this kit to install a JVC Arsenal KD-AR959BS Bluetooth receiver I bought from Crutchfield in 2012. I had put this off thinking it was gonna be a pain to install , boy was I wrong. I had this installed and working in about an hour and a half with all the trim put back together. I wish I would of done this a year ago. Crutchfield makes the installs super easy because they send you detailed instructions specific to your vehicle make. Now I need to install some subs and an amp to get the sound how I want it.

I have to admit I was a little intimidated when I opened the boxes and saw how big and long the wiring harness was but as it turned out I had nothing to worry about. The install kit fits like a glove with no unsightly gaps or rough edges. Following the included instructions made the install of this panel, wiring harness and radio unit extremely easy and straight forward. Not having installed a radio in a Taurus before I was a little confused as to where to run the wiring harness but quickly figured it out and had everything installed and working in just a couple of hours.

Pros: Good quality panel, easy to follow instructions, easy to install

Cons: None that I can think of.

I had the factory stereo swapped out for a newer CD player in my 2006 Taurus. The kit definitely looks a little cheap, but I don't mind that as much as the issue I'm already having with the climate control knobs falling off. It's only been 2 days, so we'll have to see how much of an issue that will be or if I can figure out a fix for it. Otherwise, the kit does the necessary job of keeping the CD player in the dash.

Pros: Securely holds the CD player in the dash

Cons: The climate control knobs keep falling off The kit looks cheaply made

Easy install. Works great

Pros: Easy Install

Cons: The Dual DC535Bi radio I bought required using DIN mounting which was ok but I would have preferred to use ISO mounting that would have been an exact fit vs having to bend the tabs with the DIN mounting which is harder to get tight. Not sure if the issue is with the mount or the radio I purchased.

Complete Kit

Turtle from Kansas City on 6/5/2015

2004 Ford Taurus SE

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

The kit was complete and had everything I needed to install the stereo. (It looks and sounds great). This was my first time and I do not consider myself mechanically inclined. The kit was great, but my impression is that installing on a Taurus is a little harder than other cars because you have to run the wires from the trunk. But running the wires wasn't as hard as I thought. If I had to do it again, I could probably do it in an hour and a half, but since this was my first try it probably took me about 4 hours including getting online for videos. I also called support one time and they were excellent. The only reason I didn't put 5 stars was because there were several sets of instructions so I got a little confused and the screws that came with it to wedge the face shield were too short. But overall I would say this is very do-able with the kit.

Pros: - complete kit, everything that was needed - everything "fit", the new front panel looks great and the stereo is secure

Cons: - instructions were bare boned, but was able to get through it

It was easy to set up and use! Only issue was that it didn't tell me that I needed an 8 foot long cable for the 2005 Ford Taurus that I own! Apparently the stereo is in the trunk of the car. It took a bit of finagling but we got it all situated! Customer Service Rocked in helping me get it set up.

Pros: Awesome it was all together and clearly labeled

Cons: Not clear that some cars needed 8 feet of cable to be strung through the car to the trunk.

Pros: Was able to do most of the upgrade in my house during the winter Kit fits great

Did and install in my Ford Taurus and all the hookups need to be done in the trunk. This kit had everything required and gave perfect instructions. What I thought was going to be a nightmare of a job took only 90 mins. I would never buy from anywhere else ever again. Everything you need is in the kit.

Pros: Ease of use Instructions clear Made complicated install easy

This adapter makes it possible to use an aftermarket receiver in a Taurus. Since Ford puts the antenna and radio unit in the trunk the installation is much more lengthy than others but the wiring/dash adapter works well. Now the vehicle has Bluetooth, hands-free calling and great sound.

Pros: Dash adapter fits properly Wiring harness is the proper length Heater and A/C controls fit well Rear defroster control operates normally Passenger air bag light works properly

Cons: Directions could be more detailed including wiring diagrams

Verified employee review (What's this?)

It had every thing it should have in an adapter kit that is going to get you back to "With Tunes" I only had a one small issue with it; the knobs and area that they are in the vicinity of: the lighted parts, they were only stickers instead of plastic that light could shine through. Much less durable as well as not so desirable. I know if I ever have a problem with it, it will be a thorn in my side. But the rest of it was awesome! I'd say it was set up with options and the right ones too! Overall the stickers haven't been an issue and it is a good product and I'd buy it again, as well as recommend it to someone looking to do the same.

The unit comes complete like all the Crutchfield products I've used. The adapter seemed expensive until I opened the package and saw that to accommodate the silliness Ford built into the factory cover, the adapter needed to replace one factor climate control switch, the airbag indicator, the rear defrost switch and provide a face plate for the other two climate controls. That and the long antennae and wire loom to reach the tuner that Ford placed in the trunk.

Pros: Kit is complete and well documented.

Cons: None - then did a good job replacing Ford's silliness.

Product was easy to connect as well as to install, Took abit of Care to enclose all the wiring back into the dash. The arranging of your wiring pack from the rear to the dash takes alittle thought, but after hiding the wires and routing around the Glovebox, it was cool. Great Kit !

Pros: Step by Step Directions, Looks Professional once Installed

Cons: The little Passenger Airbag Sticker looks Cheap, but Hey, its a Great Product overall.

This kit may cost an arm and a leg with getting the head unit, but the price is well worth it, it sits right flush with dash and this is the first time I haven't used the provided head units trim ring but rather the dash kit's trim ring and it looks great

Pros: Flush, not too cheap looking, decently easy to install, just have to remove a few panels to run the wiring, but the wiring was of perfect length

Cons: None, well the rear defroster button looks funky, but I don't care

Verified employee review (What's this?)

I was very pleased with the fit and finish of the product. The instructions were excellent and you're left with an installation that just looks great. The install on the Taurus is a bit more complicated than some car due to the need to run wires to the trunk, move the AC controls to the new dash adapter, and splice into an existing wire. However, with the instructions given anyone with some basic tools can do this if you'll read and follow the instructions.

Pros: Great solution for upgrading the stereo in the Taurus with a very professional look. Price (particularly if bought with a new head unit) is very reasonable.

Cons: None!

Ford Taurus OEM Dash Stereo Adapter

2004 Ford Taurus SE

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

I am super picky for starters but isn't that what reviews are for. This product fit my Taurus and functioned properly but it gives off a cheap appearance. I guess for the price its what you could expect where I really didn't want to spend 150 plus dollars like the local car stereo dealerships where offering. Here are some of the features that I think could be improved: 1. The texture of the material on its face (maybe smooth instead of rough with a higher quality plastic used). 2. The three rotating dials that you remove from the stock unit and place onto this unit drag and they have a lot more wobble. They can pull off a lot easier. 3. The airbag light looks very cheap where you can see that its glued in where the sticker that says airbag is glued on too. I'd remove it but it looks like it's super glued where the plastic will be affected. 5. Defrost button appears to be a really cheap push in unit where a higher quality/tighter rocker switch would have been a huge improvement. I'd pay another 10 bucks for a better switch. 4. The areas that light up around the dials and illustrate more heat, more cool air, fan speed and how the air comes out at you are stickers where the red and blue colors are way off from the stock unit. Overall it looks like a add on unit and you definitely notice it. On the flip side it does what its supposed to do and at an affordable price.

Just confirming what Brent wrote. I used this item to install a Kenwood unit in my 2005 Taurus SEL with manual climate controls. It works fine! Crutchfield should change database information about the SEL model. They might be losing sales because of it. [Editor's Note: Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We have expanded out database to show w/Automatic Climate Controls and w/o Automatic Climate Controls.]

This adapter works great and wasn't too hard to install, the hardest part for me was pulling out the factory radio (it didn't want to leave)--I would have thought that running the bypass cord would have been the hardest. Here are some notes about the install that I wasn't aware of: This kit comes with an 18 foot bypass cord (well it's a series of cords bound together for each of your speakers and antenna) you must run from the trunk to the dash cavity because Ford had the great idea to put the radio in the trunk of the car. Yes, you heard me right, the factory radio you see in the dash is just the control unit and CD drive, this probably explains why iPod radio adapters never worked well in your Taurus despite working in a different car just fine. This process isn't too bad to do, the scuff plates and back seat come out fairly easy. Also, I suggest you purchase some cable conduit/cable loom to help hide and protect the bypass cord where it gets exposed or possibly abused like in the trunk, under the rear seat and where it comes up from under the front scuff plate to head into the dash (this cable conduit looks like a dryer's drain hose with a slit down the side of it. I hope by me telling you this removes a surprise from your receiver upgrade project.

The description says it doesn't work with the SEL Trim Line but it does. I think if your car has a digital themostat then it doesn't. The easiest stereo install I've done. The worst part was running new speaker wire wich isn't that hard. I bought this with the Kenwood KDC-X692, pioneer 4 way 6x8 and a compact 400 watt rms powered sub. System sounds great.

This product does exactly what it is meant to do. The only problem i had was from Ford and not so much the adapter itself. Ford engineering has got to come up with better designs. Other that that the product was easy to install (once the Ford issue was taken care of) and works great.
