It's a good enough product and functions as advertised. Not every aftermarket product will fit like OEM and the kit came with everything listed.

Not impressed

When I opened the box the wires where about 10 feet long like they where never cut off. The factory screws wouldn't hold the hvac knobs in place so I had to get self tapping screws. And after i went to install it I would clip into the dash, I super glued it so it didn't rattle

face plate is a perfect fit and looks good after installed. the wiring harness for the "premium sound" replacement is less than optimum. Instead of it pluging into the existing wiring connector, you must remove the driver's seat and plug the harness into the amplifier connector (you no longer need the amp). Then you must run the wires under the carpet and under the dash to the radio area. Once you have the wires there, you must individually connect 14 wires with connectors (not included) and then make sure all wires are tucked behind where the new radio will go. This process took two of us about two hours to install. :-(

Had to do some work to fit. I guess after reading the other reviews my dash is a little different. But the support I got from Crutchfield was great and so very helpful A big shout out to the support I received from them.

Exceptional product

This product was fairly easy to install and didn't put my through nearly as much trouble as I thought it would. I was able to install it in one night along with the stereo I purchased with it. Crutchfield has definitely earned a happy and loyal customer.
Pros: The item had trouble going it's way to my address but the Crutchfield help team fixed it IMMEDIATELY. The product was safely packaged as well.
Cons: The face looks a bit bland, but it does exactly what it needs to do.

One size fits nothing

I tried to put this into a 1999 Ford Escort with little success. I had to modify the heck out of the stock DIN opening and this so called integration package still doesn't fit properly. Half of my install time was jacking with this.
Pros: none
Cons: It's ugly, doesn't fit, built cheaply, and is overall just aweful.

Good product, Bad clips
Tim from Phillips, ME on 6/2/2011
Good product for the price but the clips that lock it into the dash do not work correctly. If you try to bend the clips, they break and you have to modify the factory ford clips to work.

Serves it's purpose

I was originally afraid to use the Metra brand based upon other reviewer comments that it looked cheap. After receiving it, I think it looks quite nice, much better than I expected. Making the connections was pretty straightforward. However, as mentioned before, the holes for screwing in the climate control items were too small for the stock screws. I just opened the hole slightly and everything worked well. Also, I could not get the unit to lock back in the IP. I see that others' bent out the metal prongs. I tried that but it didn't move much. I will try again with some type of tool to see if it will budge. Right now, the unit is just pushed into the hole. It doesn't look like it'll fall out though. I just want to try again to lock it in. Overall, this unit looks nice and works well.

98 Ford ZX2 w/ Premium sound, no CD Player
Disturbed_Rat from Pahrump, NV on 9/25/2009

Over-all the unit looks better than the OEM unit. In the instructions, I found it easier to remove the kick panel for an unobstructed view of the Temp control cable for removal/ assembly. The supplied connectors were smaller ( about 1/4" smaller and the wrong shape) than the OEM harnesses, which will require splicing and soldering. Other than that, I would recommend Metra to anyone doing a Home install.

Decent Product

Yeah it looks cheap, but it's a Ford Escort so it fits right in. Relatively easy to install. Very sturdy, not flimsy. Hard to get it to fit in the dash. I think you are supposed to cut part of the dash but I didn't, I got it to fit by bending the tabs on the side outward and pressing real hard. A hint: The factory switch screws will not fit in the new part. Use small wood screws and screw them right into the plastic.

I've used a different brand before and unfortuantly, this is the better of the brands. It still seems cheap, but not like the others. Here's a highlight of the good and bad: - The tealish color at night doesn't match the original color. - Some people don't like the grain. Imagine this thing smooth... with as much empty space as it has, it would just look plain wierd. And besides, look around your dash, your radio was actually the only thing that didn't have grain! Although it is different than stock, this actually matches the interior more. - I installed this on a 2002 and didn't have to trim any part of my dash. However, the right side wouldn't stay in very well so I bent out the clip some and now it stays in just fine. - Also on the other brand, the climate controls are set inwards sort of like the stock radio was. But, unfortuantly, people don't realize that this makes it so you can't see the top portion of the control positions. - Oh, and who cares where the defrost button is! It's now closer to you so you don't have to reach over to the passenger side of the unit, with was dumb in the first place. So, all and all, I'm satisified with this kit. Knowing that there is much worse out there makes you feel better about what you have now.

Not bad for your only choice
mattyc20 from Battle Creek, MI on 7/20/2007

Basically i agree with guy before me. This product was very fuctional, and overall delivered exactly what it was supposed to. Yes it did have a few shortcomings, but i actually found it to not be that bad. With mine to attach all of the controls with a new self threading screw wasnt that bad, and actually was a good idea. I didnt have to cut away the pleather dash, i had to actually break away the plastic on the interior dash around the top and bottom. This is because the depth of the new unit is thicker. So a little breaking of some useless plastic was needed, and some movement of fan controls and rear defrost because now its on the opposite side as before. Overall it wasnt too difficult and i think it looks even better than before! Great product for your only choice, but i wouldnt spend more than 50 dollars on it.

99 Ford Escort ZX2 w/ Premium Sound install
binghamjd from Virginia on 2/26/2006

I was fairly disappointed with the product overall. The installation harnesses worked great. However there is an extra harness (about 8 inches) that was not needed. But the instructions fails to tell you when it is to be used(Thanks for the info Tripp). Everything went great until I had to reattach the Fan and Tempature controls. They both are attached with a screw. On the Fan control, the screw hole was to small. And for the Tempature control, there was no hole. I then inserted the unit into the dash at would not fit. I found that you have to cut away the Pleather dash covering and underlying foam to get it to fit. Im not sure what 2 corners need to be trimmed. This tells me that the ubit ist the same size as the factory unit. The only other point of note is that the finish isnt smooth like the orignal. It has a course finish which IMHO doesnt work for the cars finish. Final thought: It is functional but has some short comings but what other choice is there? P.s. The tech support I recieved from the Crutchfield team was excellent. In an age where customer service is EXTINCT, I was etremely pleased with the staff. Great Job
