Metra 99-5839CH

Your 2010-14 Mustang is a very cool car, but the console presents a bit of a challenge when it's time to install an equally cool stereo. Retains SYNC

This kit features a full-color touchscreen that that let you access all SYNC functions (if equipped), menu options, and climate controls found in your Mustang. It's a perfect match for the color, texture, and contours of your dash. The included wiring works with amplified and non-amplified systems, retaining balance and fade controls and your subwoofer. More details on the Metra 99-5839CH Dash and Wiring Kit

The Metra 99-5839CH Dash and Wiring Kit replaces these items:

Product Research

Vehicle Compatibility: The Metra 99-5839CH installation package allows you to replace your 2010-2014 Ford Mustang's factory radio with an aftermarket head unit, while retaining key factory features & functionality.

Double or Single DIN Dash Kit: The dash kit has been designed with high quality automotive grade ABS plastic to match the texture and paint of your Ford Mustang's factory dash panels. The dash kit will support installation of a single-DIN or double-DIN aftermarket head unit. Single-DIN radios will mount with the included pocket. Double-DIN radios will mount without pocket.

Note: There are two different radio trim panels to choose from. One for mounting your aftermarket head unit in the upper portion of the kit, and another one for mounting it in the lower portion. If mounting the radio in the upper portion, a factory module will need to be relocated.

Integrated Touchscreen & Push-Button Control Module: Included 4.3" touchscreen and push-button control module lets your retain your Mustang's climate controls and vehicle customization functions. Use the touchscreen and push-buttons to control your vehicle's factory HVAC system and adjust vehicle personalization settings. The eight backlit push-button's color can be changed to over 250 different color options. The touchscreen also provides vehicle performance information that is delivered through the CAN Bus as well as a convenient way to reset the check engine light.

Radio Replacement Interface Module: The radio replacement interface module is built into the touchscreen & push-button control interface. The following factory features are retained.

  • Factory Amplifier & Sub: The 99-5839CH retains your vehicle's factory amplifier & sub. It can also be used in non-amplified factory systems.

  • Ford SYNC: The Metra 99-5839CH will retain the Ford SYNC system (including USB & Aux) through your aftermarket radio's rear-panel Aux input.

  • R.A.P. (Retained Accessory Power): RAP (Retained Accessory Power) keeps the radio powered on after the key is off, until the driver door is opened or the OEM timer ends; whichever happens first.
  • Steering Wheel Control: The Metra 99-5839CH lets you retain your Mustang's factory steering wheel controls (no separate adapter required).
  • Your aftermarket radio must be set to the Aux input to hear SYNC functions, such as USB & Aux.
  • There is a set of RCA's labeled "From 3.5" which will not be used.

+12V/10A Accessory Output: In the 2010-2014 Ford Mustang, there is no 12-volt accessory wire in the factory harness, so the 99-5839CH is designed to provide a 12V/10A switched accessory output (red wire). Otherwise, you would need to run an accessory wire to the fuse box or underneath the steering column when installing an aftermarket radio.

Navigation Outputs:  The Metra 99-5839CH provides wired outputs for navigation radio installation; including a VSS (vehicle speed sense), Parking Brake, and a Reverse Gear output to make installing an aftermarket navigation head unit simpler and less time consuming.

Aftermarket Backup Camera Input: The integrated touchscreen features a composite video input for adding a backup camera (sold separately), so you can view a backup camera image on the integrated touchscreen monitor. There is a second composite video input which will not be used.

Wiring Harness: The included wiring harness contains the following bare wire leads which will need to be hardwired to your aftermarket radio and vehicle.

Did anyone install this with Shaker 500 OEM system? I installed and for some reason my OEM door 8" subs do not work. Any suggestions?

is goog parts and work magnific onli probles is the radio do you need sale radios complit updates in the sistem
[ Jaime Rodriguez  Jul 03, 2018 ]
Okay, first off, a but of truth: I used this exact kit on my 2012 Mustang with Shaker 500 and without NAV but did NOT retain the factory 8" subs. I replaced them with Shelby/ Kicker 8" subs and used a small Kicker pxa 200 amp to push the subs. But, in order to use the factory amp you've got to hook up the Metra power lead for the factory subs. I believe it's a blue colored wire and it should splice into your new radio's harness. That turns on the amp. Also, you'll have to hook up the rca cable that corresponds to the factory sub amp on the Metra adapter. That sends the music signal to the factory amp. Those two connections should get you up and running. However, I have seen some receivers from my past installs that you may need to turn on preamp outputs and/or assign the outputs (sub vs. full range) to get things working. Some I've come across are either turned off by default or not assigned to be subwoofer outputs. It kind of goes without saying, the factory sub amp RCA's plug into your receiver's sub output, if it has one. Not all do. Now, the subs WILL NOT PLAY THE SAME WAY they did when hooked up to the factory Shaker receiver. The factory crossovers sent a bunch of midrange (100+ hz, maybe even as high as 1500 hz) to those subs. An aftermarket receiver will have a much lower crossover point so those subs will only receive true bass (below 100-150 hertz or so) the sound will change as far as those subs are concerned. Hope this helps. 2 connections need to be made from the Metra harness to the new receiver harness.

Is anyone able to actually get SYNC to work?
[ RusWolf  Jun 12, 2018 ]

I have the same kit in my 2014 mustang gt. SYNC will not work so I use the radio screen to make calls. If you find out how to make the sync system work please let me know
[ Dwain  Jun 12, 2018 ]
You will have sync in the car but the voice activation part will not work. You have to use the screen on the radio to make it do what you want it to do.
[ Dwain  Jun 12, 2018 ]
No sync is not compatible with the metra 99-5839ch wiring kit. It will work for everything else on the steering wheel.
[ Dwain  Jun 12, 2018 ]
I see this replaces the climate controls. Does it retain heated seats? I have heated seats so it's a deal breaker for me if it does not.
[ Owen Toler  Feb 08, 2018 ]

Yes, there are controls on this unit for heated seats.
[ Walter  Feb 11, 2018 ]
I don't have heated seats, so I honestly have no idea
[ Tommy Dunlavy  Feb 09, 2018 ]
Yes it has the option to turn on heated or cooled seats. It can also do dual climate control.
[ Christopher  Feb 09, 2018 ]
Yes it does, you have to configure it to in the options once you have it up and running
[ Marty  Feb 08, 2018 ]
Looking at the instructions, it does.
[ Fernando  Feb 08, 2018 ]
Do you need to have Sync in your mustang for this to work?
[ Yancy  Dec 04, 2017 ]

I don't believe you need sync. You may be better off. I really wanted to like this kit. I do have sync but I was never able to get the kit to work properly. After repeated calls to crutchfield and to metra, I had to take the kit out of my car. I could not get the car's sync to see the metra module and sync up properly. I tried everything they said, but the car battery would die in a day or two. I personally believe the module was defective, but I was a couple of days past the crutchfield 60 day warranty and could not return it. I was left with an expensive kit that I could not use. I ended up buying a Maestro kit which hooked up and ran perfect the first time. Since you don't have sync, it may work great for you.
[ Richard  Dec 04, 2017 ]
No, actually I removed Sync as my system is better (But you dont need to).
[ Fernando  Dec 04, 2017 ]
No you do not need Sync for this to work. Works just fine with your phones Bluetooth (to stream Pandora, Spotify, etc.)and to take calls, but not required.
