Room for improvement.

I gave two stars because it fits in the stock location and black is an acceptable color. Everything else? ...Well, the storage above the single din opening could have been twice as big and still fit in the space available. As it is, I can't even fit my fingers into it and reach all the way to the back. I hope I don't drop something in and can't retrieve it. Also, there are four holes in the rear of the storage space (for things to drop into and be lost forever?). I had to cover them with tape before installing. Upon installation, my 8mm socket kept getting stuck between the bolt and the dash kit housing since the bolt hole was too close to the housing sidewall. All of that said, I think Metra should know better. A few well thought out changes could have made this a much better product. After all, it will be the central focal point in my dash, but only because I don't know of a better one.
Pros: fits as advertised
Cons: Poorly engineered and poor use of space.

This thing feels pretty flimsy but it works fine. I bought this 3.5 years ago for my 2007 Hyundai Sonata and recently removed it again because the receiver I bought just died on me. The plastic seems weaker than I remember but it still works with the new receiver and nothing is broken on it.
Pros: It work, looks pretty good.
Cons: Seems a little weak.

I hesitated to replace my malfunctioning stereo because I assumed only an OEM unit would work in my car, and the OEM unit did not have the features (bluetooth/aux) that I wanted. I didn't even know a product like this existed. Had I known, I would literally have replaced the stereo years ago.

It does it's job and it was included FREE; so it's hard to complain. However, the piece is very lightweight and pretty cheap. The Kenwood receiver isn't held as tightly as I'd like. Also, it scratches very easy. However, it fills the hole in the dash well and it looks a-ok for an after-market install.

Dash kit -- nice fit for clean install
Bob Z from New Jersey on 5/2/2016
2006 Hyundai Sonata
I bought a Pioneer radio to replace the stock radio in my daughter's 2006 Hyundai Sonata. It was easy to install with the Crutchfield instructions and install kit (faceplate/mounting bracket and wiring harness). This faceplace kit made the job easy and looks good with good fit. I particularly like the storage slot above the 1 DIN radio space. The slot is big enough to store the phone while connected on USB to the radio unit. I even made the install easier my mounting the handsfree mic from the radio right in the faceplate of this kit. I drilled a hole, pushed the head of the mic through, and hot glued it from behind. No need to run wires through the dash and up to the rearview mirror (typical mounting location for the mic).
Pros: Good fit. Extra storage slot.

Jeff from New Jersey on 1/14/2016
2006 Hyundai Sonata
Does what it is supposed to do. I wish that the radio could be mounted to the bracket with screws, however, rather than being forced to use the collar that came with the stereo, which is basically just held in by bending sheet metal tabs. A little more plastic on this would have accomplished that task, I don't see any reason it was not built that way. I have used other such mounting brackets in the past for cars I owned that are mounted by screws.
Pros: Works as advertised.
Cons: Not as sturdy a mount as I would have wanted.

As other reviewers said, the plastic is a bit flimsy. Other than that, it fit just fine and did the job. Liked the extra shelf too. My '07 Sonata also had nut screws and not phillips screws, although there were phillips screws on every other part.
Pros: Fits perfectly in dash
Cons: Flimsy plastic

Cheap
David from Florida on 6/8/2015
2006 Hyundai Sonata
Disappointed but not many choices in an adapter. Flimsy plastic. Doesn't have the bottom two screws, which it needs. The radio DIN cage fits loose - can't bend tabs enough to get it tight - so the radio kind of floats. Over time, this will damage the adapter. Seriously needs ability to screw the radio to the adapter for a solid tight fit! Not recommended.
Pros: None.
Cons: Flimsy. Radio fits loose. No bottom screws.

Thus unit fits great in my 2008 hyundai sonata. It was simple to install. Although the included instructions said the existing radio would only have philips head screws, they in fact had nut screws. Not a big deal but a minor annoyance when installing.
Pros: Fits well and has a shelf that my phone can easily fit in.
Cons: Being a single din opening, it's a bit difficult to get my big hands in to do anything once it was installed. Nothing that could be fixed easily though.

Very easy to install, did it myself without any help from the instructions. its very straight forward once you have the dash taken apart, just screw it in and put the dash back on. EASY. I've never even done this before and i did it within 50 mins.
Pros: holds stereo, has pocket to hold a few CD's, your phone or ipod, or whatever you like that is around that size.
Cons: seems like it could break easily if you drop it or bend it before you install it.

Instructions were good. The opening was a little large for the device so I had to improvise and bend several other "tabs" on the sleve of the stereo. Once that was done the fit was good.

Larger opening than standard DIN size
Greg from Bloomington, MN on 9/23/2012
2008 Hyundai Sonata
I am not happy with this product as the opening is larger than a standard DIN size. My head unit purchased has about an 1/8" free movement up/down in the opening. The design makes it difficult to bend the tabs far enough to make a tight fit for your head unit sleeve. It is cheap plastic and is missing attachment points for the bottom two mounting screws that the original factory cover has. Others have mentioned the color is black and does not match the rest of the dash... it doesn't look as bad as you think, but I think a color match product would have been more popular and nicer looking overall. I don't recommend this... if there is another option out there for you I would go with that based on the opening size issue.
Pros: Quick installation
Cons: Opening too large, head unit is not tight in the opening, color is only available in black.

Easy installation
JohnL from Halifax, PA on 9/7/2012
The receiver kit came with all the needed insturctions for an easy installation. My daughter wanted to get started with the install, so I handed her the instructions and told her to get started. When I checked back with her, she had the dash apart, the original radio out and was installing the new receiver kit. The new radio fit wll and the project took less then 1 hour to complete.
Pros: Detailed instructions on removing the old and installing the new were easy to follow. Receiver fit great.
Cons: The only con would be that the color was black and the dash of the car is grey. However, there are enough black items on the dash that the black receiver does blend in..

A good option for replacing the factory radio
CEO from Montebello, CA on 7/10/2011

Easy to install, the radio cage to bezel fit is weak. I had to use silicone RTV to secure the cage and keep it from vibrating and moving around. The color should be a better match to the factory dashboard. Should have the 2 lower mounting brackets for a stronger fit.

Good part, but not finished to match Sonata
jfurman from Studio City, CA on 4/15/2008
2007 Hyundai Sonata
I found the fit to be perfect on a 2007 Sonata. The Metra unit is firm on installation despite using two less screws and one less clip than the stock head. The upper curve shape matches the molding on each side perfectly. I was also able to get the standard sleeve with my new head unit to install firmly into the DIN opening with no problems. (My JVC KD-AVX44 comes with a trim frame, so no problems like the other reviewer.) Only issue is that Hyundai coats its hard plastic dash pieces with a matte finish. This unit does not have the coating, so it looks a little darker/glossier than the plastic on either side of it. I have read that others have painted it to match perfectly, but it's not so significant an issue that I am going to bother with that.

Gets the job done
Kyle from Tyler, TX on 3/11/2008
2006 Hyundai Sonata
I have a 06 sonata and wanted to take the CD player out of my old car and put it in this new one. I have always used Crutchfield and will continue to do so. The shipping is great, even with UPS ground I received my kit in only 2 days. The instructions were very helpful in the installation and were easy to read. The kit fits snugly in the dash however the top half, where the slot is, doesn't seem to quite match the original curvature of the dash and you can see where the dash material gets thicker as you round the top. The color difference is not that noticeable. I was going to paint it but decided not to. The back of the little pocket has small holes in it which I found very convenient to run the cable to my iPod. Over all it's a nice kit with only minor design flaws. I would recommend this kit to anyone with a sonata.
