I wish the center console had the same texture as the ORM piece. It does fit nicely with no adjustments. However, only 1 of 3 mounting screws fit from this/radio to the dash mounting locations as original piece has. IT isn't a show stopper but a disappointment.
Pros: Good looking, mostly fits as plug and play
Cons: 2 of 3 dash mounts can not be used.

Perfect Fit for 2009 Nissan Frontier SE
Larry from MOUNT AIRY, NC on 11/23/2020
2009 Nissan Frontier SE
The dash kit is a very good match for the original dash plate. I used the plastic mounting plates which appear pretty strong once all is assembled. I didn't have any place to secure the factory metal plates to the dash kit. All factory screws went in without any problems. The bezel for the dash kit worked better than the Jensen one. I used a small rotary cutter and a file to remove the bridge bar for DDIN installation.
Pros: Looks Good. East To Attach Head Unit and Temperature Control Module. Nice Rubber Texture on Dash Panel.
Cons: DDIN bridge bar needs break apart scored into it for easy removal.

I wouldn't recommend the ISO option during installation, the brackets are a thick plastic, so thick in fact the screws provided only reach a few thread lengths into the metal chassis. The plastic tabs that hold the head unit in place are easily dislodged with very little effort. Also the storage bin is a nice feature but it's so badly warped that it's appearance distracts from the overall great look of the kit.
Pros: Easy Install
Cons: ISO brackets need work Storage bin needs retooled

Disappointed the install holes did not line up. Had to drill new holes. It would have been nice to use oem metal brackets. I feel like stereo will fall out later. Does the job but not even close to OEM
Crutchfield customer from Parker, CO on 1/2/2020
2012 Nissan Xterra
Kit replaces only the visible features of the OEM dash - without any of the structural stuff. DDIN OEM radio is mounted to the panel via metal brackets on both sides of the deck. Those metal brackets are then directly (and indirectly through the panel) mounted to the dash. This kit replaces the metal with plastic snap in brackets that are not secured directly to the dash. My guess is that the new deck installation will be secure. However, I seriously doubt it will hold up anywhere near as well as the OEM under crash conditions. (If I thought it were a true safety issue, I would not have installed it in my wifes car. However, I did give it some real thought.) My second gripe was the fit. While it was close to the OEM fit, was not as close as I would have expected. The new install leaves a clear gap all the way around. (My wife made fun of the 20-minutes I took to try to center the unit equalizing the gaps.) Further, the new panel didn't even both to include "knubs" to lock it to the dash as was done with the OEM. While this wouldn't have completely solve the gap issue, it would have pulled/held the sides together. If I were to do this again, I would likely attempt to track down an OEM panel. (Even though my wifes xterra had the integrated deck, the model with the upgraded stereo had a separated deck. I'm guessing I could have got a face panel for that vehicle and used it here.)
Pros: Cheap and does the job
Cons: Not a great fit. Not nearly as secure.

Fits as intended.
Crutchfield customer from Rochester, MN on 4/14/2019
The fit is what you expect from Metra. This will do what it is desighned to do. Please be aware that the color in the picture is off. I have a grey interior and the radio area is deep, almost charcoal, grey -- this is the right color. The kit is not as light as the picture so if you have a grey interior and are tempted to get the black kit because tis seems too light, you might want to talk to your Crutchfield specialist and consider the grey.
Pros: Good fit.
Cons: Kit is good, picture of kit is off.

Good dash kit. I tried to use the factory brackets from Nissan but couldn't figure out how to connect them to the dash kit. Dave from Waterboro, ME on 3/28/2018

Installation on a 2012 Nissan Frontier SV was easy, too easy. It just attaches to the plastic dash fascia, not the steel top brackets the original unit tied into. I managed to cold work the original sheet metal side brackets and bolt them into the new Metra side plastic mounts. If I had a do over I would get the Scosche dash kit instead.
Pros: Free with unit. It fit well, no issues.
Cons: Not beefy enough for an off-road vehicle.

Mine went into a 2012 Xterra Pro4X with the RockFord Fosgate system. Everyone has mentioned the having to cut / file / modify to go to a double din install, so I won't harp on it other than to say you shouldn't have to do it. Where my install went a bit screwy isn't necessarily Metra's fault....the Crutchfield install docs just sort of don't address the Rockford Fosgate system...they tell you to start doing things that you just don't really do with the Rockford... This article (for 2009-up) rockford setups tells you to use the metra dash kit but to keep the factory metal side brackets and use them on the install, only you can't. The metra system doesn't accept the attachments like the factory setup does. So, toss caution to the wind and just use the metra side brackets and hope they support the weight. So far, so good. Fit was decent, the look is fine, though it doesn't have the factory texture, but the color matches well. All in all, it does the job and I'm complaining more about Crutchfield's directions than the actual metra kit.
Pros: It fits and the color matches
Cons: Loses Factory texture and you have to modify for double din.

Jonathan from Knoxville, TN on 2/14/2018

Very nice that this is included with purchase at no charge. Only thing I would change is the dash kit is made for both single and double din radios. For double din radios you have to cut out a small cross piece as the instructions show you. I would prefer to have two different versions of this piece so you don't have to modify the kit. Other than that small detail, it is great.
Pros: Excellent color match, easy fit, included free in order
Cons: Must modify to fit double din radios. Instructions are provided for modification.

This item made my aftermarket radio installation look factory. It is a bit worrying cutting the middle of the bezel out, to accommodate the double din, but that seriously was the hardest part. Other than that, you remove a few screws to install the factory A/C controls, and that's pretty much it..
Pros: Looks like it came from Nissan itself.
Cons: Cutting the center needs to be precise...

Works good, looks good, a little confusing at first.
Dan from Houston, TX on 9/11/2017
2012 Nissan Frontier SV
Worked great, looks good. Instructions and pictures left a lot to be desired. If you regularly do installs, it shouldn't be a problem. But for someone who doesn't do installs all of the time, all of the extra parts that allow the kit to work for several different applications added to the confusion. More clearly marked parts and better pictures would have helped. That being said, it was only an extra 10 minutes of head scratching until I had it figured out, so really not a huge deal.

Metra and Scosche both make trim kits for my vehicle (2011 Nissan Xterra). The Metra opening is bigger and requires an additional trim piece around the head unit's face plate to finish it off. The Scosche doesn't, and it looks much better.

Inadequate bezel fit with climate controls
Scott from Seattle Wa on 4/10/2017
2011 Nissan Frontier SV
I was glad to see I'm not the only person who has the climate control space size issue. At first I thought my electronics had failed or similar. Turns out the holes for the climate, fan, heat, AC etc aren't adequate so the buttons get stuck in down position. Disappointing. As others suggested I will probably file the openings a bit or also leave the torx screws a bit loose. BUT I shouldn't have to do this. Long time Crutchfield buyer since early 90s and this is disappointing....
Pros: Look is OK
Cons: Fit is not adequate. Plastic vendor needs to fix this!!

Worked. They need to incorporate factory metal side brackets into their assembly. I was able to mod for my 09 frontier to include OEM metal brackets, but not without trial and error. Install finished up clean. Metra kit leaves you with only 1 intended screw through dash kits center molded hole, to hold the whole business in place! A couple speed bumps and I think there would have been problems. Add brackets on outside of metra kit stereo dub-din and adjust to be in same spot as original dash panel (this is where they could have improved their mold to include alignment tabs to save guessing). Then bend each oem bracket slightly inwards (@1/6-1/8") to re-align this assembly with the two tabs to the dash. This will give you the 3 screw attachment as before.
Pros: Got it to work... looks good.

The only reason I gave this 4/5 stars is because it came with extra parts in case my setup was slightly different and I don't care for wasted parts. The Metra 99-7428B Dash Kit does a good job in providing a replacement bezel for double-din radio in my Xterra. The opening is a bit large, but the kit includes a surround that covers the gap. It would be good for the kit to include more than one surround due to the fact that not all double-din radios are the same size. I had to cut the surround a bit to make it work. Also, the top of the bezel does not have the notch in it for the top tray to snap in to to hold it in place. As a result, the top tray does not stay seated properly. It keeps coming up at either the left corner or the right corner. Make the Metra 99-7428B Dash Kit have that slot in the center would have made me give it 5 stars. Missing that means it doesn't function as well as it could have with just a little more effort.
Pros: Looks close to OEM bezel. Cutouts for A/C controls, hazard switch, and air bag notifier are great. Most of what you need is included in the kit.
Cons: Opening seems a bit too large. Missing the slot on the top for the top tray to snap in to causing the tray to keep popping up.

It does what it's supposed to do, but it isn't a perfect fit and the material is much cheaper looking and feeling than the stock piece. Also, the holes for the climate controls don't line up quite right, and I had to back out the screws just a little to keep the buttons from sticking.
Pros: Does what it's meant to
Cons: Not a perfect fit and looks and feels cheaper than stock

Metra 99-7428B for 2012 Nissan Frontier
Rick C from Middleboro, MA on 2/7/2016
2012 Nissan Frontier SV
The kit worked ok to adapt my double din radio. It does however take away some of the mounting support that the stock factory unit provided. I am not a big fan of replacing steel factory radio brackets with kit provided plastic ones.
Pros: IT works.
Cons: Lost factory mounting support in at least three areas. Factory unit is screwed to dash in three areas. The kit uses one screw and lacks the rugged support of the factory unit. Some screw areas are omitted. The radio trim plate is to wimpy. Had to shim it with duck tape to keep it from rattling. Take your time here!

Could be better
Jon from New Jersey on 12/18/2015
2012 Nissan Xterra
All things considered, this is fine, but a couple things irked me. First of all, this has no texture like the factory unit. Not the end of the world though, but I did like the stock texture. The main issue is the holes for the climate control buttons aren't quite right. My buttons jammed when I first put this in. Trying to free them ended up dinging up the surround and the buttons, which annoys me. Ended up having to loosen the screws securing the whole climate control unit to have a bit of give and allow the buttons to travel, but they are still a little sticky.
Pros: A lot easier than cutting up the stock unit
Cons: Different texture/finish to stock unit; doesn't fit climate control buttons properly; doesn't have all the same clips as the stock unit

First time installer, learned a couple things
DanP from Florida on 9/18/2015
2010 Nissan Xterra
Not having installed an aftermarket head unit, I learned a couple of things. My replacement head unit, a relatively inexpensive Pioneer, comes with a "cage" already installed over the chassis. Not realizing this and trying to follow the instructions, I was trying to use the plastic things that come with this to attach to the head unit before inserting. Of course it didn't fit and I was a little puzzled until I looked a little closer at the head unit and realized what the directions were describing. I literally didn't use any of the "additional" stuff that came with this piece. Just the main big piece and the little cubby piece. I just fit the head unit into the top open bay and four metal locking tabs secured it perfectly. Also, if you have the stock "non Rockford Fosgate" stereo in the Xterra, do youself a favor and take the A/C vents off using the four easily engaged release tabs. It'll make getting the stock unit out easier.
Pros: Does exactly what it needs to do at a great price
Cons: not a thing

Used this dash kit on my 09 Frontier a few years ago and recently installed it on my '12 Frontier. Perfect fit each time and very easy to work with. Only small issue I had both times was cutting out the divider in the middle to make it a Double Din opening. Other than that its a nice product and fits well.
Pros: Fits perfectly and easy to reassemble A/C unit and new HU into the kit.
Cons: cutting out the divider to make it double-din is a little tricky... maybe its just me.

Very good, but not perfect
AndyR from New Jersey on 4/10/2015
2012 Nissan Xterra
I mounted a double DIN unit using this installation kit in my 2012 Nissan Xterra; As several others mentioned, the color matches quite well however the kit has a smooth finish as opposed to the textured OEM finish. Personally I don't have a real issue with this however some people might. Also, the small frame that snaps into the double DIN opening isn't totally secure - hasn't fallen out however you can tell it is not a perfect fit. The unit I mounted however seems pretty secure and the overall look and feel is quite good imho.
Pros: - Easy to install - Double DIN unit well secured - Overall fit and finish quite good.
Cons: - Factory OEM finish not precise - Thin plastic snap-in frame for double DIN opening not a perfectly snug fit

These Metra's always seem to deliver with factory screw placement, fit, and finish. I wasn't sure about the change in colour on mine (from charcoal to light grey), but it worked nicely in my 2012 frontier.
Pros: Exactly like factory fit, finish, and feel.
Cons: It has 2 less anchor points than the factory and causes the screw on the very top to vibrate the dash trey. Will be installing a nylon washer to see if that will rectify the problem.

It looks good in the dash with a double din. I have a Nissan Frontier. It doesn't have the textured finish like the factory but once I got it in it didn't bother me as much as I though it would. The small trim around the radio face could be better, it fits a little lose. It certainly makes the radio look like it fits in my truck better than previous aftermarket installs I've had.
Pros: Easy to use Looks good
Cons: small trim a little lose and no texture

Nice Kit
Walt from TX on 9/27/2014
2012 Nissan Xterra
Good overall. Did not have same texture as OEM panel, but made of nice material and still blends in well. The single DIN ISO mounting brackets did not snap in as positively as I would have liked. It tried to pop out twice before I got it mounted to the vehicle. Using the radio bracket instead might have actually been more secure. A metal strap to mount the rear of the chassis to the dash frame was not mentioned in the instructions, but might be a good idea on the ISO mount.
Pros: Nice appearance & fit, decent instructions, well made overall.
Cons: Single DIN ISO mount could be stouter.

This mount kit has a different finish than the existing dash, it's smooth instead of the textured existing, nothing major just a personal preference, the real issue with the kit is the double din trim plate, it did not fit for me and constantly pops off, without it I have a nice gap.

Changed out the factory radio in my 2009 Suzuki Equator. This kit fit extremely well and the directions were on the mark. No problem going from a double din to a single din mount. Extra storage pocket included is nice place to store my iphone while playing through the new stereo. The grey color is lighter than original, but does not stand out or look ugly. Got used to it very quickly. Other than color variance, this scores a 5 to me.

Could be better
DanE from Meridian, ID on 4/22/2013
Initially installed this with my AVH-P8400BH, and immediately ordered a different brand (carries other products by this company, but not the dash kit...so left the name out). The trim ring provided with this kit was bowed due to being so thin, and when installed, still left substantial gaps around the chassis/face of the receiver. The mounting did not have any attach points back to the dash, so it depends on the dash pop-tabs for stability and security (unlike the 'other brand' that screws in to the factory dash mounts). The plastic mounting plates (that hold the receiver to the fascia) are flimsy, and the only things holding the receiver into position (vibration is a certainty). Pretty consistent to what I've read on other forums/sites. Gave it 1 star since it was included with my receiver purchase. The 'other brand' is nearly a perfect mounting match. Was almost able to use the factory metal receiver mounts, but ended up using the plastic ones included with their kit. Seems to hold the receiver stable, and rock solid mounting to dash. Am happy with the new kit.
Pros: Free
Cons: Flimsy construction, lacks secure mounting to the vehicle dash, lacks secure mounting of receiver

DM from Cleveland, OH on 3/29/2013

If you have a grey interior on your car, get a black trim kit, it will look better. I bought both and grey never seems to match right but black will go with anything. I ended up keeping the black and returning the grey kit. I just wish they would be able to match the facytory look to include the dimples. I even thought about attempting to dremel my factory panel and try to rig my new head unit to work with it. Oh well, black does look decent enough. Get black.

Cons: Doesn't look as good as factory. Grey never matches right, get black.

Ok, but...
MikeM from Salina, KS on 2/2/2013
2012 Suzuki Equator
i'm pretty ambivalent about this kit, which came with am DD size JVC head unit from Crutchfield. The kit is simple, and I thought the plastic was thick and durable. Mounted fine in the original factory opening, and I had no issue remounting the HVAC controls back in the unit. I mounted my radio using the side plastic supports that came with this kit, and the radio is very firmly attached to the dash. So, what's not to like. My issues were: - The instructions really leave something to be desired. It goes through how you remove the factory radio from the original frame, but if you use the plastic brackets to support the new radio (which I think you have to... the brackets mount to the black trim using screw points that don't exist on this casting), then you don't need to take the original radio out of the original frame. - The texture of the plastic does not match the original - the original has a "weave" pattern to it, some say carbon fiber look. This is matte plastic. It matches the dash, something I worried about, but does not pop. - I'm stuck with a gap at the top and bottom of my radio where I can see into the dash when the sun is at my back. Not much, but enough to annoy me. Haven't figured out how to fix this one. The trim bezel for the radio won't work, since I'd have to had used the whole radio mounting ring, which from what I can tell won't fit in this casting. I'm not disappointed enough to redo it, but wish there were a better option.
Pros: Reasonably strong, everything fits (except as noted below), color matches original piece. No concern radio will fall out now that it's installed.
Cons: Gap around radio is annoying, wish it was textured like the original. Concerned it'll show fingerprints like crazy.

I read the reviews on this dash kit before ordering my receiver and figured its free and if it doesn't work out I'll buy one of the other dash kits. Man was I pleasantly surprised! Everything went together real smooth and tight. Alignment was spot on, no complaints, and the thing is strong. I mounted a DD chassis in the unit. Yes, it is smooth and not textured like the OEM piece, but it looks great in my truck and I'm very meticulous when it comes to upgrades and mods on my Frontier.
Pros: Strong Alignment is spot on Excellent color match to OEM black
Cons: Not textured, but not a show stopper for me

Nissan Frontier Dash Install Kit
RonT from S.E.Georgia on 12/26/2012
It works, but not very high quality. Let me start by giving kudos to Crutchfield as the first one I rec'd was defective (incomplete mold) and they replaced it for free and over-nighted the replacement. The unit itself is not much to brag about. It fit the dash poorly and I filled the gaps with black adhesive backed felt (I used it to line the storage box beneath the radio too). I also found the plastic clips that held the radio in place to be very weak and would allow the radio to shift forward. I disassembled the kit and riveted the plastic pieces together to stop the movement. If another choice of Install Kit were available, I would have chosen it.
Pros: Holds radio in place.
Cons: Looks cheap, fits poorly.

Good not great
MIKE from Davis ca on 9/9/2012
Everything fit well except the trim ring for the DD unit. I was concerned about the fact that the unit would not mount to the metal like the factory one did but it is surprisingly secure in this mount. The wiring harness provided by Crutchfield has no ground (black wire says subaru only) the factory unit grounds by the attachments to the metal so you will need to run. A ground wire but the screws that are removed from the metal support will easily hold a ring terminal so it isn't that big of a deal.
Pros: It fits and looks good minus the trim ring for head unit
Cons: DD trim ring could fit better.

Crutchfield customer from Clarksville, TN on 7/10/2012
Thin plastic, warped edges, no place for the factory supports. It did the job but barely, had to file back some of the button holes so them buttons could move freely, have gaps between the trim and the kit, and the single din storage pocket is bowed on all four sides. It went in, it holds my radio, but it screams cheap after market.

Color is way off
Joe from Wilmington, NC on 5/24/2012
2012 Nissan Xterra
I bought this for my 2012 Xterra. I found that the color no where near matches the gray in the dash, which is extremely dark. This is more of a medium gray. Black would be closer in color to the existing dash trim, so I'm going to buy one of those to see if it looks better.
Pros: It seems to fit correctly.
Cons: The surface scratches very easily. The surface of the factory trim is extremely rugged; there is no comparison between the two. The whole thing seems to be pretty flimsy, but that is par for the course for these things so I don't know if I'd say it is worse that usual.

Worked great
Suzuki Equator 2011 from NJ on 5/14/2012
The front bezel fit into the factory dash easily. Was a little worried about the left and right sides as I could see a crack of light from the back. Once in place how ever it was perfect Did not show at all. My truck only uses two of the three switch locations on the bottom portion that is just above the two knob holes. The reason I mention these is because I had to shave these around the edges a bit because depressing the switch would cause it to jam in the down position. I just scraped the edges of the switch hole with a knife, scrap mind not slice. After a few tries the hole was ok with the switch, after depressing it would spring back up. I used a 1 din receiver and it had some play when using the sleeve that came with the radio. I solved this by wedging and gluing 2 nails onto the top of the sleeve that just happened to fit the gap perfectly. The bezel always hid the gap , I just didn't want the play. Bezel is a matt black job, not as nice as the one that came with it , but servicable.
Pros: Great fit Easy to install
Cons: tight on the buttons causing them to stick Not as nice a finish as the factory bezel

2012 Nissan Xterra
Build quality is very mediocre. I had a very hard time getting one of the brackets to snap on: had to use use epoxy and two clamps to force it into place. It LOOKS decent once it is installed, but the color seems chosen at random. It doesn't match the xterra gray even remotely. Though it does sort of compliment it. What might work better is getting one of these and repainting it. Alternatively, modifying the Nissan radio mount doesn't look too hard for someone who is confident with a dremel. Though I am loathe to hack up actual car pieces irreversibly.
Pros: It holds the head unit. It is cheap. There are no alternatives, so at least you don't feel like you've made a bad choice!
Cons: It is cheap.

Adapter Package
Bernard from Hawaii on 4/2/2012
Not sure I ordered the correct conversion packet. The face and bracket were wrong. There was nothing special on my buyers paper to show a special readio so I selected stock. The installer did use the wire harnesses which wer4e just fine. The installer adjusted the original harness to accommodate the new radio.
Pros: Radio fit well into the slot.
Cons: Need a better way to visualize the different faces and harness to insure exactness.
