Color matches to the dash but there was about 1/16th in gap on left side, but according to my wife "OMG husband, you are the only one to notice that". Ample storage too.

Great kit for a 2004 Mazda

This worked great. There was a small section of the trim that did not fit perfectly flush, but I am the only one who would notice. I should also say that the top tray that replaces the OEM clock now holds my cell phone while plugged in. It is really slick. The lower section under the stereo is pretty big and could fit several things. It leans a bit forward, but if I stuck loose stuff in it I might add a silicon mat. They should think about listing it as an accessory. If I knew the top opening where the OEM clock was located was as big as it is, I would have ordered the 2-din stereo. I wanted a good spot for my phone, and I thought it would have to go in the lower opening. Either way, I do not regret my decision because the opening in the back of the lower bay allowed me to fish my stereo microphone through without making any new wholes.

Nice replacement for OEM

This is a good fit for installing aftermarket in this vehicle. I have always used Crutchfield for customized installs. Not every aftermarket compares well to OEM quality in my opinion. Some cheap adapters are just not good quality and don't fit well.

Better than Competitor, Lacks Fit and Finish

I must say that I like this dash kit better than the other leading competitor. Having the pocket at the top makes it look more intentional than a blanked off hole and having the receiver higher up in the dash looks more balanced than having everything lower. However, the fit and finish of this one is severely lacking = gaps at the sides, not flush at the bottom, and the trim at the top doesn't fit tightly with the pocket leaving overlapping plastic. Also, the face of the receiver sits about 3/8 inch back from the face of the trim which gives it a recessed look. I actually like the look of this better than having the face proud of the trim, but it does make the corner buttons on the unit a bit harder to push. 3 stars because it was included with the purchase. 2 if I had to pay for it separately.

I have this kit installed in a 2004 mazda 3. The large main piece is dead on, a perfect fit for the car (sometimes I forget it isn't a stock part). Because I went from the large factory stereo to a single DIN stereo, some of the excess space got replaced with pockets. While the new pockets are nice to have and work fine, they are a little on the cheap side and don't line up quite perfectly (which can be seen once finished). Could probably be fixed with a little extra time and some epoxy.

Ordered a new stereo for my 2005 Mazda 3, and added this kit with that purchase. Fits great. Only for stars for clarity of instructions, it's 2013 people there has to be a better way to write these manuals clearly. As always when you take into consideration the total purchase Crutchfield is always the best value, and for customer service no one beats them. Had an issue installing the radio I purchased and called at 11:00pm est. Not only was there actually a person there to help who had knowledge of the product, but they also knew which product I was calling about and all my info based solely on my phone number. With one call they have made a customer for life

The quality of the dash kit is fine, the problem is - it doesn't fit. I wish I had known this before I ordered, but I've never had a problem with Crutchfield products before. The top trim piece won't fit flush against the unit and the bottom won't attach to the temperature control section so it sticks out about 1/4". You can push the bottom flush, but as soon as you let go, it moves back out. Basically, it looks terrible.

Good Kit

After having the Scoche kit for many years it eventually broke at several key areas that hold the unit in. It also was not wide enough to fit the 1/2 Din EQ that I wanted to install. Ordered the Metra kit and it arrived promptly. Crutchfield has always had the fastest shipping and packages their products sufficiently to avoid damage. This new kit fit nicely for my needs and looks cleaner than the Scoche kit. The plastic better matches the interior of my 05 Mazda 3. It also fit the EQ I wanted to install nicely, I just had to drill holes for the power wires and RCA's. The top pocket did not fit perfectly but it really rounds out the clean look of the kit.

Crutchfield included this kit with the purchase of an Alpine stereo deck. I was initially concerned that this kit would force me to remove the LCD screen that comes stock with the Mazda 3, but went ahead and fully installed it anyway. I've been satisfied with my decision ever since. This kit forms a couple extra pockets for storing charge cables, cases, etc. Perfect fit in my 2006 Mazda 3 Hatchback!

Does the Job

Product fits and is easy to install. Some people have complained that the plastic is cheap looking. In my opinion, the main plastic piece that houses the aftermarket head unit and the larger storage unit below does not look terrible. It mostly matches the surrounding OEM plastic of the mazda dash. The top piece, which replaces the LED screen, however, is a crappy-looking shiny black plastic. I found that pocket to be quite useless, actually, and simply reinstalled the LED screen. It only provides me with the ambient temperature outside and the fan information (gas mileage information and radio station display not active), but I prefer the look. Reinstalling this requires some modifications to some of the plastic provided in the kit and to the car as well. There are guides available on mazda forums. Overall good product and reasonable price.

The Adapter Kit was easy to install, super useful, and aesthetically pleasing. I only have one complaint: The tray that replaces the LCD display for the temperature and clock is not fully finished to make flush. There is still a small gap between the kit and the trim panel that goes over it. All in all, an excellent kit though!

This is not a bad dash kit considering it was free. The only issue I had with it was the the fact that the directions are not very good. The directions didn't tell me to remove the plastic clips from the factory deck that hold the climate controls in place. Once I figured that out it worked perfectly. Looks pretty good too. Now I wouldn't purchase this but since it was free I'll take it

Maybe from the negative reviews i've read for the mazda 3 kit, i kind of had a low expectation on the fitment.. but i've got to say i am impressed..i have to give this a 5 star.. quality is good, not great. but i would recommend this to anyone who is looking for an upgrade.. i have a 07 mazdaspeed 3 and i had this kit installed today.. when i saw the finished product, i was very pleased.. i did have a car audio guy do the installation for me.. it shouldn't make a difference but for $50 to get it done right.. im ok with that..

Ok build quality, good match for interior surface

This product worked well to fit a single din kenwood receiver into the dash. Upon very close inspection you can see small gaps between the dash, but these are all less than 1/8 inch and not noticeable.

First off, the instructions that came with this kit are terrible. The kit itself matches the interior just fine, but it does leave a gap on the bottom. It can be fixed if you want to create your own notch in the kit. If you want to keep your factory LCD, good luck understanding the instructions. I searched the internet for hours and finally figured out you need to mount it to the air conditioning vents.

just bad.

not only did i have to modify this kit to fit my car, it fits horrible. the finish on the plastic doesn't look anything like the texture or color of anything on the oem interior. i had to shim the inside cage with rubber to make it fit right and there are huge gaps on the outer sides of the kit. i couldn't think of a worse fitting product. do not buy this unless you have to. crutchfield should offer a better fitting kit.

Solid dash kit

This dash kit is solid and fits pretty well. My only complaint is that the small pocket that goes above the stereo (replaces the factory LED screen) had a slight curve in what should have been a straight part. A factory trim piece attaches to this pocket, so the factory trim piece gets pulled up but the curvature.

I put this into my 05 mazda3i, The Kit looks great and i dont feel it is "cheap looking" at all. I had a few leftover peices which confused my slightly during installation, but hey, it was my first time installing an aftermarket head unit. I recommend this to anyone, it matches the dash just fine.

Great for the price, but a little cheap looking

I installed this kit in my 2006 Mazda3 5-door with a new Pioneer deck and have the manual (not automatic) A/C controls below the stereo. The kit has the same texture as the OEM dashboard and looks great but the panel gaps are noticeable. You can't beat the price (mine was free) and if you don't mind a bit of the cheap look, go for it. The sound from any new stereo beats the stock one.
