Crutchfield's web site is wrong, it does not fit a 2013 Nissan Frontier. The Metra manual that comes with this item lists it as compatible with Nissan Frontier 05-08, Pathfinder 05-07, and Xterrra 05-08. I'm not sure which dash kit to replace it with. The American International NDK780 manual says that it fits a 2013 Nissan Frontier, but Crutchfield's web says it doesn't. Additionally, Crutchfield's automated phone system won't let me get to tech support without an order number. I received this and a radio as a gift so I'm not sure how to fix the problem.

It works, it fits. I wish the trim section at the top was straight and didn't have a slight bow to it. The instructions were a little sketchy. I had to try several combinations of the provided parts to find the best fit for my unit. I ended up using the Metra side plates instead of the metal sleeve that came with the stereo. I like having the little cubby hole below the radio now (old unit was double DIN).
Pros: Works, fits. Additional parts included for flexibility of installation.
Cons: Instructions not 100% clear on which parts to use.

not sure what kind of Rating to give this. First getting my stereo shipped to me was great. Knowing the stereo is a single din radio and sending me a double din was not so great. Now as far as fixing the problem yeah they did, BUT know I was getting all parts and radio I set up a time for install at a shop. So after receiving the order and me setting the Appointment on a day I had to take off and to find out part was not correct its a day of loss pay for me and days til I could schedule to get it installed. now that I took another day off to get installed with correct kit it seems to do its job. SO FAR. So other than taking 2 days off and finally getting part I guess I am Happy So I am going to give it a middle of the road star rating

Didn't Fit My 2007 Frontier as described
Guest from Lake In the Hills on 12/12/2019

Did not fit my 2007 Nissan Frontier properly. Cracked my dash when I tried to snap the top back into place and I was not being forceful. My truck is old and I can kind of just get the dash rested in place, so I'm not going to lose my mind, but it's annoying for sure. Didn't bother getting it replaced because that won't uncrack the dash.
Pros: Didn't actually fit my truck
Cons: Looks decent, holds radio in place nicely

I hate to say it, but this doesn't seem to work with my head unit. Pioneer DEH-X8800BHS CD Receiver. It pushes the unit to far out of the dash for a good, clean fit. Metra 99-7581 Dash Kit
Kyle from Morganfield, KY on 3/14/2017
2007 Nissan Frontier
It works great but with a double din unit you only need the small frame that goes around the front of the radio. The rest of the stuff is for a single din unit. I'm glad it was free with my radio. If I had paid for all that and I only needed one piece out of the package, I would have been upset. In my 2007 Nissan Frontier XE the double din frame is held in by a star wrench screw and I didn't have one of those so I just put in the right place and snapped my dash back into place. It holds well and looks good around my head unit. Thanks Crutchfield!
Pros: Easy to install, looks great.
Cons: It's a lot of waste because I can't use 90% of the product with my double din head unit. It would be better if they would just send the double din stuff separately.

Not a proper fit for Double-DIN in the Xterra
Crutchfield customer from Harker Heights, TX on 2/10/2017
2005 Nissan Xterra
As others have mentioned, this does not property fit a Xterra double-din install. Pretty clear this is an issue after reading the comments but still being sold and advertised for the Xterra double-din. Most people wouldn't consider it proper fit you have to cut off two mounting tabs and silicone the trim piece in to make it fit. If I had known beforehand, I would have probably gone with a single-din radio which the install kit looks like it properly supports.
Pros:
Cons: Doesn't fit double-din installs correctly but still sold as if it does

2005 Nissan X-Terra
Larry from Ft Thomas, KY on 12/18/2016
2005 Nissan Xterra
I have a 2005 Nissan X-Terra. This came with the purchase of the radio (JVC KW-R920BTS). The factory radio is a double DIN radio and the radio I purchased was a double DIN radio, so the only thing that I need to use from the Dash Kit was the piece of plastic that goes around the radio to give it a more professional look. Had I purchased this somewhere else I may not have considered buying this. The reason for the 2 stars is because it did not fit the opening in my dash properly. The directions said that there would be 2 screws on the side of the air conditioning vents that this would screw into to hold it up. They were not there. If i were to try to install it with the "screw holders" that it came with it did not fit. So, to remedy the situation I simply cut those off and placed it in the opening. The pressure of the radio is enough to hold it up. If I would have purchased a single DIN radio I may feel differently about it because it looks like the rest of it houses the single DIN radio perfectly. If I would have installed the radio without it all together it would look OK with a small area around it that would show the inside of the dash, but it is by no means an absolute. I can't complain too much I didn't pay anything for it, I just wanted to make sure that if you had a 2005 X-Terra you had this information.

Didn't work for a 2007 Xterra using a double din stereo. The double din surround didn't fit and instructions were to screw it in where 2 screws already existed, but the 2 screws it showed in the image didn't exist in our vehicle. It was included with purchase but completely useless
J from Bronx, NY on 6/6/2016
2008 Nissan Frontier
This came with the Pioneer 4200NEX double din headunit for my Frontier. The kit has a single din kit and a trim ring for double din. Naturally the single din part did not come in handy. So I installed the double din trim ring, its a narrow frame that has a roughly 1/8" lip to fill the small gap between factory bezel and the new radio. Not only was it flimsy which i guess is expected for a thin ring, but it got in the way of the motorized faceplate. The headunit would get stuck both opening and closing. Needless to say I removed it since you dont even really notice the gap without it. Now it works fine. This may infact work for stationary faced double dins, but was useless for my set up. Glad it was free or i would have been quite annoyed with the extra labor having to remove it after i already finished.
Pros: Included with purchase has both single din kit and double din trim ring (see cons)
Cons: for the 05-08 Nissan frontier, this kit is useless no parts are needed The trim ring for the double din install actually interfered with the operation of the headunit and was removed

Not the best
Pete from Portland, OR on 3/3/2016
I have experience with a number of dash kits. This one was easy enough to configure and install. The finished result is unsatisfactory and I'm in the process of searching for an alternative. The primary issue is the amount of gaping amount of space around the edges of the (single din) deck and the cheap appearance of the pocket. I've always been pleased with Crutchfield, but this kit is crap.
Pros: Easy to install
Cons: Cheap looking, poor fit.

I got this for a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder and a double DIN radio. The only part you need is a little skinny trim ring that fits around the opening. All that plastic you pay for and only one of several parts is needed. They should sell just that part for a dollar or two. The part doesn't even fill the full gap around the radio. If there other options...shop around.

The quality seems OK, and this is probably a good kit if using a single DIN receiver. However, none of the parts were useful for installing a double din in my Pathfinder. The instructions show to use one trim ring from the kit, but this looked terrible when installed and was un-necessary.

Cons: Un-necessary for a double DIN in my 05 Pathfinder.

RW from Birmingham, AL on 2/8/2016
2007 Nissan Xterra
This is a basic dash kit that I used to install a Pioneer DVD reveiver into an '07 Xterra. It was made of a sturdy plastic and fit perfectly into the dash. The only problem I had was with the instruction booklet... When installing into an Xterra there are some plastic tabs that have to be trimmed to make everything fit. The generic instructions do not include this step. Luckily, Customer Support at Crutchfield was aware of the problem when I called. They were able to get me moving in the right direction!
Pros: Sturdy construction Great fit Easy installation (once I contacted Crutchfield)
Cons: Instructions are generic and may not include every detail needed to complete the install

Literally only used 1 piece from this whole kit. The double din rectangle was all I used. Used this in my 2005 Nissan Frontier and the double din trim piece hangs out over the head unit. Was hoping for a flush mount. But whatever. The quality of this kit isn't that great either. Its pretty cheap and flimsy plastic that easily bends.

Cons: Cheap quality. I only needed 1 of the 5 pieces that were included. Doesn't give a flush mount.

I installed the JVC KW-R910BT in 2006 Nissan Xterra. It fits okay. Not flush and perfect but much more aesthetically pleasing than without. No one that comes in my car notices the imperfect fit, only me since I installed it and I am my toughest critic. The install was tricky. It took a forceful hand to get the panel back in place while placing this in. It doesnt have a place in the Xterra to connect to the panel so I had to hold it in place while I moved the panel back into position.
Pros: Fits

Barely adequate
HPNQ420 from Wisconsin on 7/2/2015
2005 Nissan Xterra
I used this to install a single DIN Alpine HD148BT in a 2005 Xterra Off Road with the Rockford Fosgate system. The metal bracket set the unit the right distance back, except the RCA connectors did not allow it to be seated. I then used the plastic ears and set the unit out about 1/4" for clearance. The ears do not lock the unit in place well without a super hard push along with prying the tabs on the ears to engage the adapter. The trim pieces do not fit in the dash opening. I trimmed them, but they would not lock in place with the head unit set out far enough for adequate RCA plug clearance in back. I ended up cutting the trim piece down to separate top and bottom (no side) pieces and it looks almost ok. If I cared more I would adapt the factory metal brackets and fabricate my own close out. It did not matter in my case but the double DIN trim piece does not fit the opening either.
Pros: My stereo is in the dash. In all other respects Crutchfield's suggested components worked great, just not this. Main adapter fits.
Cons: Poor retention, trim pieces do not fit, clearance problems.

Not a perfect fit
Eric from Virginia on 6/14/2015
2007 Nissan Xterra
The only part out of this kit that was needed for my 2007 Nissan Xterra didn't fit without modification. The location where the screws were supposed to go was not correct. My Xterra did NOT have screws in the locations that the directions said it did. I had to trim the screw hole tabs in order to get this to fit. So there is no screws holding it in place. But if you don't trim off too much of the screw hole tab, it will hold in place until the unit is in place. Once installed, the unit will hold the trim piece in place.
Pros: None
Cons: Had to modify the trim piece to work on 2007 Nissan Xterra.

This kit provides all you need to install a new 1-DIN unit, but the only piece applicable to a Double-DIN installation is a trim ring that provides acceptable protection around the sides/front of the new stereo.
Pros: Nice quality, lots of options and parts. Single-DIN portion of kit is excellent.
Cons: Double-DIN trim ring is passable, but hardly worth it if you don't get this free with your new head-unit's installation kit.

Does NOT fit 2014 Xterra X
Michael from Portland OR on 10/6/2014
2014 Nissan Xterra
This is a well put-together kit made from quality materials. The documentation is clear and it installs with great ease. The only problem is that it does not fit in a 2014 Xterra X. Crutchfield's site specifies it, as does Metra's. but sometime at or before the 2014 model year, NIssan changed the form factor in the X trim audio system to match the S and the Pro-4X trims. As a result, the 99-7581 places the head unit about 3/4" too far back into the dash, and leaves a gap around the installation that varies in size between large enough to insert a finger, and large enough to insert a flat trim tool. For the 2014 Xterra X, you'll need the Metra 99-7619, which is the same kit used for the newer S and Pro-4X models. The 7619 fits like a glove!
Pros: Well-made, clear instructions, solid installation.
Cons: Doesn't fit newer Xterra models.

Cons: Maybe would need to come with a plastic version of the factory plates for double din installs being u need the factory plates to do that install. In case someone had prior removed the factory unit and no longer has those plates.

Mark from Baltimore, MD on 1/6/2014
I was less than impressed with these for my Nissan XTerra. The one peice I needed from the kit does not fit properly at all. It needed to be modifed to work even somewhat, but in the end it was just a temporary peice until I could fabricate my own bezel to give the final install a clean factory look.
Pros: They came free with my purcahse so I didn't waste money on them.
Cons: They don't do pretty much anything they are supposed to do. They need to be modified to work at all in certain applications.

In-dash Receiver kit for 2007 Nissan Frontier
Mish from Rockland County, NY on 12/11/2013
2007 Nissan Frontier
This product fit my car perfectly. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the cover bracket that snaps in around the radio was a bit loose. I had to use some electrical tape to keep it from rattling around. It really was not that much of a problem, I just found it odd that everything else fit so perfect except this one piece.
Pros: Fit perfect. Exact same size and shape as the stock harness. The ISO brackets allowed the radio to fit securely in the receiver.
Cons: Just that one cover bracket was fairly loose, but it has not rattled since the install if you tape it down with some electrical tape.

three strikes - this kit is out
David B. from southwest VA on 3/12/2013
2008 Nissan Frontier
And here they are: 1) As Reich1 noted, the design of this kit puts the head unit in a location that creates physical interference between the head unit's rear wiring and the dash crossbar in the Nissan Frontier (mine's an '08 non-Nismo, so it's not just the Nismo version). This literally made it impossible to install in my vehicle. 2) As MarkP pointed out, the brackets that attach to the sides of the head unit have very poor retention in the main body of the mount. The head unit pops/falls out of the mount with very little force. Be prepared to catch your head unit if you ever get rear-ended 3) The "trim plate" that goes on last had an insane amount of vertical play - in the neighborhood of 1/16 of an inch.
Pros: Crutchfield's return policy - I'm returning this heap
Cons: I was conned into thinking this would work...

Not for Nismo
Reich1 from Lexington, NC on 1/14/2013
2006 Nissan Frontier
I do not believe that the Nismo model was taken into consideration. If all models have a metal cross brace tube that runs behind the receiver this install kit is junk. Where the wire harness goes into the receiver it hits the metal tube. There is no way around it and that issue is not addressed in the instructions. I had to space the metal frame that came with the stereo out about a 1/4". It looks fine but I should have not had to take it out and try different things to make the install kit work. And yes I tried the plastic ears that come with the kit. They two would not snap in place without the back of the stereo hitting that tube. I was installing a Kenwood KDC-BT752HD. Someone at Crutchfield should look to see if all models have that tube. If so the stereo and install kit does NOT work without modification!
Pros: Finish matched factory colors and texture good
Cons: Didn't fit right.

JV from San Jose, CA on 1/10/2013

Didn't really need the whole kit but with all the different types of decks and the volumes that this company deals with I can see why the entire kit is included. You will need one part of the other in a 2006 pathfinder, so I appreciated it being there. Lots of parts left over, I would have been very upset having to pay for the kit and only using the frame that was needed for a double din to double din replacement. All in all thanx crutchfield.
Pros: Without it there will be an awkward gap.
Cons: Kind of cheap looking but you get what you pay for and this was free, so....

After attaching the plastic mounting clips to the stereo when I went to slid the stereo into the holding fixture the clips didn't clip very well. One little touch and the radio would pop back out. A little frustrated
DEW from Up Chuck, SC on 9/4/2012
2008 Nissan Xterra
Not really sure if this kit was necessary, but Crutchfield said it was. I installed it on a 2008 Nissan Xterra. The frustration began with the kit had many pieces I didn't need for my double DIN Pioneer unit. The only piece I could use was a rectangular plastic frame. The problem was that it wasn't labeled for orientation on the stereo's faceplate. I tried several placements of the frame and had clearance problems while securring the dash panel, in other arrangements, the frame seemed awkward and cheap plastic looking.
Pros: None
Cons: Missing detailed instructions, cheap plastic.

I had the factory double DIN radio and was replacing it with a single DIN. This did help to fill the space, but it honestly isn't holding the radio as well as I'd like. The thing works don't get me wrong, but it's not the best in the world. The directions also, were terrible at describing how exactly to place the radio. I ended up just doing what worked best for my scenario; not sure if it is truly right or not.

Gets the job done
Brad from Beckley, WV on 7/2/2012
2008 Nissan Xterra
Well, this product is good and bad. I don't believe there many options for my 2008 Nissan Xterra, but this one came free with my Alpine CDE-122, so it's hard to complain. But, for those of you who are looking at this to purchase, I will give an honest review. The install was simple, and fast. I have never installed any type of in dash system until this and it took me 35 min from start to finish. It's a little flimsy and cheap looking but that's not the bad part for me. I had read some reviews on here talking about how it makes the unit sit too far back in the dash and this is true. I'm not concerned with the looks as much as I am with the fact that it makes detaching the face on my Alpine almost impossible.
Pros: cheap, easy to install
Cons: finish, sits CD player too deep into dash

Decent quality. It did not work for my 2007 Nissan Frontier though because the kit made the unit I bought sit so far back in the dash that the wire harness was hitting the frame. I just used the existing metal brackets from the factory stereo. The screws lined up perfect with the new stereo I bought. I just bought a pocket from a 99 frontier and it fit perfectly in the metal bracket underneath the new stereo. Subaru and Nissan pockets are the same if you need to find one. Includes a single DIN mounting bracket when the unit I ordered is double-DIN so didn't need that. Also couldn't use the metal mounting sleeve that came with the head unit. Ended up having to use the OEM metal brackets from my 2008 nissan frontier to get the head unit to line up with the dash opening. The OEM brackets only lined up 100% with one screw hole on each side of the unit so I used a drill and file to make another hole in the OEM bracket so the screws would line up better. There was one thin black plastic rectangle piece that filled the opening around the unit very nicely though.

Disappointing at best
Bill from Central Florida on 3/18/2012
2006 Nissan Frontier
Thought it looked rather flimsy when I unpacked my order, I was right. Unit installed easily enough but sits the receiver too far into the dash. Almost impossible to get the unit to "click" into the DIN cage due to interference with steel support bar behind dash. After finishing the installation, I think it looks like something I would have done on my '51 Ford when I was 15 years old. Unit is not flush with the dash as shown in the picture above and has gaps around it. I intend to remove and fabricate a new spacer that will align the unit correctly. The storage compartment below the unit will be almost impossible to clean. It could have best been left off and replaced with a blank cover to fit the opening but that probably wouldn't have fit either.
Pros: It is mostly hidden from view so no one can see how cheap it is.
Cons: cheap, cheap, cheap

Dissatisfied with fit and finish
Bill from Seattle, WA on 1/22/2012
2008 Nissan Xterra
I, too, have a 2008 Xterra in which I just installed a single DIN HU, and I, too, am really dissatisfied with the fit and finish of this kit. The two plastic brackets provided with the kit that attach to the left and right sides of the HU began to degrade (shed bits of plastic) the moment I placed the requisite screws into them. Installed in the dash, this kit looks unfinished, is not tight to the touch, seems too recessed into the dash, and with flex around the edges, just looks plain cheap. I also hate that fact that thin, poor quality plastic is now used to hold the kit into the dash as opposed to the solid metal brackets that came with the factory unit, and I'm worried that those other terrible plastic brackets that are holding the stereo in place yet began to degrade even prior to installation into the vehicle won't be able to hold up to button presses and on-the-road bumps and vibrations in the long run. This kit really ended an otherwise easy installation process on a sour note, and as it seems I'm not the only one with this specific vehicle that has noted the above with this kit, I implore Crutchfield to find a better quality, more suitable replacement for the Xterra.

I installed a Double DIN unit in a Nissan Frontier. For that job I needed one (and only one!) of the many parts supplied. Just for fun I put it on a scale I had in the garage. 92.3% of the material shipped in the kit went in the trash. The plastic looks cheap. I'm not sure what it is, but it looks like ABS from a poorly textured tool. In the end it did fit, was reasonably square after some fiddling, and looks generally OK.
Pros: It works.
Cons: Lots of wasted plastic, looks cheap.

The kit was just right for my vehicle and easily allowed for the conversion from a double din setup to a single din setup with a storage area below the unit. It took all doubt and confusion out of the equation. Very good service from Crutchfield.

stereo fit fine but the plate that goes around it to fill the gap did not fit, too big. I have a small gap all the way around the face, 07 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab.

Kit works - 2010 Nissan Frontier
ckam from calabash, nc on 12/6/2010
I am not a big fan of these plastic kits. For the install of my Double DIN JVC rx 600 radio, I just had to use the thin trim ring. It fit pretty well so the radio install looks good. Not too bad an item.

Installation of the kit and radio was easy. The only confusing thing was the extra parts. One of the extra pieces was labelled as possibly extra but in addition the slides were not needed with radio I installed neither was a trim piece.

Convenient and easy set up but...

Instructions were great and very clear. Install was quick and easy with provided material. Fit was superb. My only disappointment with the package is that the plastic frame makes it difficult to remove my receiver's faceplate.

Not a good fit
I have bought many head units from Crutchfield in the past and was always impressed with the kits they sent. Unfortunately, this time around, this kit that was sent with the head unit for mounting in a 2008 Xterra gives for a cheap and atrocious looking mount. Gaps can be seen around the stereo and the unit sits too far back in the opening. I now have to figure a way do do a better looking mount.

Metra 99-7581 Dash Kit
Leo from Morgantown on 8/29/2010

I felt the actual kit was on the flimsy side. It held the unit too far into the dash and the harness was pressed up against a bulkhead. I would have paid more for one that was a bit more studier and fit without worry.

Waste of money
Crutchfield customer from Lubbock , Texas on 3/4/2010
2005 Nissan Pathfinder
I order this kit because I wanted to put a double din stereo on my pathfinder and this kit was completely useless, there were no parts for a double din after market stereo. I had to remove the factory brackets from the factory stereo to put on the after market stereo because the kit only works for a single din stereo. It was a waste of my money for a kit that I'm never going to use.

Poor instructions.Have installed 6 or 7 stereos over the years and this was by far the worst. Finally got it secured good but does not look close to good, but it is installed . Looks cheap and unfinished.Maybe crutchfield needs to make there own installation kits.

Metra 99-7581 Dash Kit
Crutchfield customer from Alabama on 11/20/2009
2005 Nissan Frontier
Fits 2006 Nissan Frontier adequately. After doing research, I found only two options for install kits for the Frontier, Metra and Scosche, so there you go. This one is from Metra. Feels flimsy at first, until completely installed. Not the best looking install kit, but then again, only one other manufacturer and that one looks the same. I do not like the storage, look unfinished.

This is the dash kit Crutchfield sent with my Alpine head unit for my 07 Nissan Xterra. It doesn't fit. the plastic bows out, it's not flush with the dash and it looks terrible. I'll be ordering a different one.

2005 Frontier
Curtis from Kailua, HI on 7/18/2009
2005 Nissan Frontier
Kit installed fine, but paired with the Dual XHD7714 which has a large center dial, you can't fully flip down the front panel to put in a CD because the dial hits the bottom tray. I then remounted the receiver flush with the bottom tray and now the factory facia interferes with the receiver trim ring. End solution, I had to trim back the factory facia to fit around the receiver trim ring so that everything works as it should.

All parts fit my Nissan Frontier well, but there was no documentation on how to install I got it right through trial and error and comparison to the unit that was uninstalled. Most of the parts are not needed for the Frontier.

Although is fits the Nissan Frontier, the appearence looks unfinished., and storage tray should be lined with rubber or felt. Also it doesn't hold the head unit as firmly as I would have liked.

Perfect kit for Xterra!
dennis from New Windsor, NY on 3/31/2009
2006 Nissan Xterra
I bought an Alpine iDA-x305 and this kit was a perfect fit. I read other reviews and I agree the extra cover plates do not fit around the radio, but this particular radio didnt need the cover plate. It looks fine the way it is. I can't speak for other head units. The back screws lined up perfectly and it's a nice and secure fit. At least for my radio.
