The CORRECT dash kit for the 2014 Xterra X!
Michael from Portland OR on 10/6/2014
Both Crutchfield and Metra's website specify this dash kit for the 2014 Xterra EXCEPT the X trim model. For the X, both sites list the 99-7581 as the appropriate kit. THAT KIT DOESN'T FIT! In the 2014 model, the base level audio has the same footprint as the higher level OEM audio packages, so the 7581 installs with a gap all around and puts the head unit too far back in the dash. The 99-7619 is the one you want for a 2014 Xterra X! Once I got ahold of this (correct) dash kit, things went VERY smoothly! The kit brackets are molded with all the proper mounts for the various vehicles that it fits, and requires the installer to cut off the parts that aren't used. This is a very easy procedure: I used a hacksaw and it took less than a minute to do both brackets. Just remember to check twice and cut once! After the cutting, the kit snaps together easily. The kit does not come with mounting screws for your head unit, so you'll need to get these separately. Once installed, this kit provides a very solid installation and a clean look. I was replacing the OEM double-din unit with a single-din Kenwood KCD-X998, and the pocket that inserts under the HU looks great, even if it doesn't look completely factory (almost, though!). Overall, this kit is exactly what I was hoping it would be.
Pros: Easy and solid install, sharp looks.
Cons: At this time, not listed as compatible with the 2014 Xterra X.
