Before the trash man comes
James from New Matamoras, OH on 2/20/2023
2001 Honda Accord
I did not use the dash kit. If any one wants it let me know before the trash man comes. The mount on my Accord works really well and so does the old door and box. They are MUCH higher quality. I was convinced that a bump in the road would snap the thing in two if the mounting screws were set a smidge too tight.

Metra 99-7895 Dash Kit
Joseph from Mancos, CO on 2/1/2023
2002 Honda Accord
As others have mentioned this dash adapter is a perfect fit. A couple of installation hints though; if you're using the metal sleeve that comes with most stereos make sure the metal tabs engage and lock into the back side of the adapter. This will keep the sleeve (and in turn the stereo unit) nice and tight in the adapter. Also place a piece of closed cell foam (1/8"-3/16" thick) in between the stereo unit and the top of the storage cubby on the adapter. This will help support the back of the stereo and keep it from jiggling around.

Crutchfield customer from Cochran, GA on 4/30/2019

Works fine. No substantial complaints. 1) my Honda OEM bolts weren't long enough due to the thickness of the plastic. I was able to use the OEM mounting brackets behind the DIN which is a plus, just with a slightly longer bolt 2) I don't like the tabs inside the pocket that are there to hold CDs. I stick my phone in there for storage and find the tabs slightly annoying. Definitely not a deal breaker though.
Pros:
Cons: CD tabs inside the pocket

Perfect fit! After connecting the head unit wiring harness with the factory harness kit, in the warmth of the garage, it too 10 minutes to remove the factory radio and install the JVC unit. The instruction for removing the Honda dash trim were spot on, even with tips on the proper direction to tilt the trim to disconnect the switches and controls. Just what I have always found from Crutchfield!
Pros: Instructions were spot on and unit fit perfectly in dash.
Cons: Help me to stop dropping screws behind the dash into those awkward places! Got an app for that? Also, loose the fins in the tray.

NICE DEEP POCKETS! but lose the CD fins.
Daniel from Santa Monica, CA on 8/29/2017
2001 Honda Accord
2 stars?! Why such a low rating? First off, who puts those CD fins into the bottom storage area? Completely unnecessary and annoying. Pros for storage compartment: It's large! It is deeper than the factory compartment which is great because I can store my iPhone 6 in there without hitting it every time I shift into 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear. Cons for where the radio goes: the radio mounting bracket just can't clamp onto the darn plastic! after forcing it to try to get it to fit, the whole radio mounting bracket was completely bent, it's made of VERY thin metal. After tightening all the possible notches to get the radio to be a tight fit, it still wasn't tight enough. Pressing any button on the radio caused it to wobble. I had to put the confusing instruction manual folded in half in order to support the radio properly. When ever I have time, I will replace this with the factory radio mount. Thanks for the free stuff Crutchfield, but ill pass on this mounting bracket.
Pros: deep pocket easy to install
Cons: The CD fins doesn't hold radio properly?

This dash kit does its job without much issue. The plastic is kind of thick and that prevented me from putting the bottom two screws through the kit. The cubby has these fins that extend out from the sides. They're for cd cases I think, but they're totally unnecessary. Rarely do people use cds anymore, and even if they did, those shelves still aren't necessary. Regardless, the cubby is still an additional storage area that can be used. I like to put my phone in it.

johnny from Dallas, TX on 7/26/2016
1998 Honda Accord
The stereo I bought fit perfectly, but the trouble came when I was putting my car's trim around the kit. When I'd push the top bit of my dash in, the bottom would pop out and vice versa. Lately I've left the screws out of my dash as I've been doing some work on my car, so I decided to put the screws in. This solved the problem but there is a bit of bowing going on at the bottom portion of the "shelf" due to poor fit. Might not be the same on other vehicles, but it was really annoying because I was under the impression it was snagging on my AC harness or something. Overall, the plastic feels rigid but the quality of the fit is a bit off, for my car at least.
Pros: Does what it's supposed to do. It's rigid and doesn't feel like it's going to break.
Cons: poor fit, took a lot of messing with until I realized I had to force it into place with my dash screws. Not something I had to do with the factory radio.

High quality dash kit, but a confusing manual
Zaid A from Georgia on 6/4/2016

I used this to install a smaller, single DIN stereo in my car. The manual that comes with this kit is mind-boggling confusing. It mentions screws and extra parts and all that. A Crutchfield rep saved me hours of my time and simply told me how to do it, as well as agreed that the manual could be better. Other than that, it's a great dash kit.
Pros: Does the job, solid quality/material
Cons: Infuriating manual

pocket below radio opening is ruined by having 'jewel case' slots on the side. i didn't use this pos. i reused a (slightly broken, but still better!) one i still had from an Alpine i ordered about ten years ago.
Pros: would have fit and looked good... if it was good enough to have been used.
Cons: pocket below radio opening too deep (the size of CD jewel case). the overall product ruined (i didn't even use mine), by the size of pocket and the jewel case slots built into pocket. the slots protrude into the pocket far enough to make it almost good for nothing else. then you combine that with the depth of the pocket... you can't even retrieve small items from it... trust me, i tested before i decided not to use it. METRA... who do you think is carrying around jewel cases? get with it.

This bracket fit and lined up perfectly with the screws in the dash and made it very easy to swap in a new head unit. My unit came with a mounting sleeve that should have snapped into this bracket however one side went in too far and took a lot of effort to pull it back and get it to lock in place. Not sure if it is the sleeve on the head unit or this bracket had been bent out of shape but after I got it locked in correctly, it feels tight and sturdy in the car.
Pros: Fills the space well Extra storage spot holds my phone charger
Cons: Took some fighting to lock my head unit mounting sleeve correctly

Does the job, but not all that well
Matt from New Jersey on 12/7/2014
2002 Honda Accord
This double-din kit replaces the factory double din I got with my '02 Accord. IT fits the space fine, and I haven't seen the warping other reviewers have commented about, but the one major issue I have presently is that there's no real way to secure my single din head unit into this dash kit. There are no side screws which means I can easily, with little resistance, pull my head unit out of the dash kit. I found this out when I tried to pull a USB cable out of my head unit and found the HU starting to come out before the USB 'grip'/friction yielded.
Pros: Fills the space left by my factory double din stereo.
Cons: Does little to secure and stabilize my head unit itself.

The in-dash receiver mounting kit fits easily in my car. Metra products seem to be well-known and used in the car stereo industry.
Pros: The bottom empty slot has two short bars that extend a quarter towards the middle; useful for holding CDs and small items. Material is of strong plastic.
Cons: The short bars could extend across the the left an right ends to support CDs, USB drives and small items. The bars are both a plus and minus in my opinion.

It turned out that I didn't need this product to install the CD receiver I had , so I didn't use it. It wasn't worth the cost of shipping to send it back for a refund. It was intended for a vehicle that had never had a radio/audio unit before. You know: like a '53 Chevy.

Works, but is difficult
Nate from Leesport, PA on 6/8/2013
1998 Honda Accord
This adapter has good plastic construction and I will be installing the unit for my brother in about 2 days, but the major problem I've had with this is adapter installing the din sleeve there is simply not enough room between where the din slot should be and the plastic slot that can hold stuff it needs around 1/8"-1/4" so that it would be easier to bend the tabs on din sleeve down and hold plastic edge, so instead of bending down just say around 4-6 tabs like have for the past 4 cars I have done (oldsmobile, ford, and 2 chevy) it took me about all the securing tabs on one side, and all the tabs on sides plus 3 on top to hold this to what I feel is adequate as I do not want his radio to shift even a few millimeters, I want it to sit nice and solid all and all good adapter, but expect to bend down alot of the tabs and make sure to up some pick and hook tools. they are not required, but I had them on hand at the time and they help significantly with pulling and twisting the tabs in the narrow space between din sleeve and plastic and helped make the sleeve hold as I wanted it to
Pros: Good, solid plastic construction, seems durable enough, shade of black seems good for dash color
Cons: Too much room on adapter for plastic slot, should have left enough space between opening for the din sleeve to be easy to install

Looks nice.
Joe from Miami, FL on 1/4/2013
2002 Honda Accord
Looks nice but I did not use it. I was looking for a way to make the unit look as stock as possible and I found a way. Build looks sturdy but I felt that the head unit would be loose with this and it would be a lot easier to steal, since it isn't attached to any metal from the car.
Pros: Looks nice.
Cons: Does not look OEM and the radio would not be as tightly secured as I want.

Honda In-dash Reciever Kit
Mike D from Seattle, WA on 12/11/2012
Fit the Kenwood receiver to the Honda like an OEM unit. The factory unit was double DIN. Now I have a single DIN receiver with a little cubbyhole below for CDs or the phone. Can't beat that.
Pros: Well built, well documented, great fit, easy to install, no rattles. Not bad for free.

It does not fit 2001 Honda Accord V6 EX
makemore from Pennington, NJ on 8/10/2012
It barely works, have to use original metal to hold receiver and use this in front of it. and then, the instrument cover can not return back to position, because the kit stuck in the way.
Pros: free with receiver.
Cons: It does not fit.

Great!!
Tacky from Eastern, North Carolina on 7/4/2012

Put a single din pioneer in my 98 accord and installation was a snap. The plastic is kinda flimsy in places so be gentle and it will work just fine. Bolted up to the factory dash very simply. I actually liked this unit better than the double version i installed in my other ride. Got the job done.
Pros: Easy to install, didn't have to even use the instructions. Finished product is.great, and even has a storage area for 3 cd cases.
Cons: Plastic can be flimsy so be gentle.

Too low end
JJ from San Jose, CA on 6/18/2012
2000 Honda Accord
Replacing the original harness with this one is a giant step down. The new stereo (also from Crutchfield, Sony brand) does not fit snuggly inside the mount becuase the bottom of the slot and the storage hole doesn't have way to secure the stereo. Then, the appearance itself is less pleasing and useful compared to original drawer from car manufacturer. I ended up finding different screws and put the new stereo onto the original Honda harness.
Pros: Easy, free.
Cons: Appearance not great, no way to secure car stereo well. Hole is unsighty and cheap.

LarryA from Palmdale, Ca on 6/8/2012

I would return it but don't want to bother uninstalling everything. The problem is that at the bottom the unit buckles or bows inward due to the standard Honda interface. This looks tacky and unprofessional.
Pros: It does fit (although badly) better than utilizing the Honda stock radio interface
Cons: As noted above the unit plastic bends or bows due to improper fit

I don't like to bash things that I get for free but would have gladly paid more for a bracket made out of metal. The original bracket was constructed of metal sadly, I could not reuse that part with the new stereo deck. Worried about how long it will last and dash vibrations. So far so good.
Pros: It was free

What is the purpose of this item?
AnnaT from Concord, CA on 9/14/2011
1999 Honda Accord
No really, what is the purpose of this item? First of all the radio i bought from Crutchfield, fits perfectly into original car harware. Original car hardware is metal and has side plates to which you can attach your radio so it will stay in place and won't be loose. Now look at this item, first this is plastic, second there is no way to attach radio to this thing. It fits into car perfectly and can be attached to the car, but! Radio cannot be screwed to it. Bottom line, itis useless piece of plastic.

Excellent!
LarryE from N.California on 8/6/2011

It fit perfectly into the space of the factory radio. Main issue was that 2 of the screws could not be removed with a screwdriver. Fortunately, I could use a 3/8" socket to get more leverage. Also, I dropped 3 of the screws during the process, so it took a bit of time to find them and fish them out. A magnetic screwdriver or some other device should be recommended to avoid this.

Could be improved
Kent from Greensboro, NC on 2/7/2011
The kit goes together easily but the tabs that support the receiver aren't very precise so they allow some movement in the receiver. This results in the receiver hitting the lower plastic when you hit a bump. Put some foam or cloth under the receiver when installing.

Excellent fit; too bad about internal fins in storage box
Steve from San Diego, CA on 10/13/2010

This nicely filled the opening and the fit and finish are very good. As others have reported, the utility of the storage box is diminished by the wide horizontal fins (2 of them) that apparently allow people to store 3 CD jewel cases. If you have a Dremel or other small cutting head, you might want to cuts those fins out before installing this box.

Easy No-Hassle Fitment
949dweller from Irvine, CA on 6/19/2010
I'm very pleased overall with this Honda Receiver Kit, it was easy to install & it sits nicely in the dash. It provides a very clean look which is exactly what I was aiming for. If I were to be extremely picky I could say that by looking at it, the bottom of the kit sticks up a fraction of an inch but it is barely noticeable & you have to look very hard to see it. My wife is also very impressed. If you're intending to keep an OEM look to your dash with your new aftermarket radio, I highly recommend this!

Factory Fits!
PorradaVFR from Bay Area, CA on 6/16/2010
2001 Honda Accord
I initially installed this in my 2001 Honda Accord but was not a fan of the CD-slot design. I removed it and discovered that the factory radio could be removed and the after-market radio put in its place (in my case a Clarion). The end result in my case was keeping the closing storage bin from the factory dash with the new radio. While the fit is not perfect (the after market radio has a SLIGHTLY smaller face) it is neither a functional or aesthetic issue. Had this piece not had the CD slots and had a door I would have been happier with it.

Like most everyone said this thing fits like a charm and installs easily. The plastic does seem a little flimsy but that doesn't really matter. The only complaint I've noticed, and I saw it myself, was being able to see the metal bracket behind the radio. This was easily fixed by using some black electrical tape to create a shim and slight push the face of the radio cover up. Straightens it out, hides the metal and you don't even notice the black electrical tape. Just my two cents!

Easy Fit--Poor Design
Mike from Austin,TX on 9/13/2008
The kit made the install very easy but the finished overall look is below average. If the kit design only included a sliding cover for the huge gap vs a giant, empty, open space it would be much better. I know the intentions of the uncovered storage space is for CD storage but to have CD's in the open like that seems like an invitation for a smash and grab.

01 Accord, no gap
Phil from Oklahoma on 8/18/2008
This adapter slid right into an 01 Accord with no gap at the bottom. Fit all the way around the opening is great, so I'd recommend it at least for the 01 Accord... the bottom of the dash opening in this particular car didn't have the warping effect on the adapter at all. The cd slots in the storage area don't bother me at all since I won't store anything in there except for 3 or 4 thumb drives anyway.

Warping Plastic
Steven from Philadelphia, PA on 4/21/2008
1999 Honda Accord
Overall, the kit fits well and looks great in my 1999 Honda Accord, but I did have the problem with the plastic warping along the bottom edge of the fixture. However, the reason for the warping IS NOT THE KIT! There is a metal plate that allows the dash radio panel to clip onto the car which pushes up against the plastic of the receiver kit, causing it to warp. I think that the problem would happen with any kit made for the opening, so its really not Crutchfield's fault. The gap is barely noticeable except for the bright metalic clip showing through... so I painted the clip black and now it really looks pretty good. As for storage, the CD ridges take up some space, but theres still plenty of room for most of the stuff you'd usually store in the dash... like a cell phone or ipod to plug into the receiver.

1998 Honda Accord
I had absolutely no problems installing this in my 98 Honda accord. It works, and looks good. The whole install, including taking out the factory radio, installing this and the new radio, took about an hour including 30 minutes dealing with a frozen screw. My only negatives for this is that I would prefer there not be fins in the shelf so that it could be used for non-CD storage, and I would like the ability to crimp the DIN holder more tightly on the bottom (right now you can only fold down partially because the crimps hit the shelf. Nonetheless, everyting seems solid, and the new receiver looks great in the unit.

99 Accord Coupe - gap at bottom
James from Seattle, WA on 8/16/2007
The bottom panel of my adapter is slightly warped upwards as well, showing the infamous gap at the bottom. Very disappointing. Now I'm going to have to remove the whole thing and try to modify it in some way, maybe reinforce the bottom panel to keep it flat? I suppose I should try to find a better unit first... I don't like the fins inside either - out in the open like that is NOT a place where I would want to store CDs, so the only thing the fins will do for me is reduce the usable space. I much would rather this were a clean empty space with a simple door.

Metra 99-7895 Dash Kit
Thomas from Chapel Hill, NC on 8/6/2007
2002 Honda Accord
I have to agree with some of the earlier reviewers. I installed this kit in my 2002 Accord EX last week, and there's a small gap at the bottom of the pocket where you can see into the dash. It's pretty subtle and not a huge deal to me, but if you like your installs to be completely perfect, this is probably not the kit for you. Not really Crutchfield's fault as far as I know, since this kit is actually made by Metra. Unfortunately, I don't know if there are any other options for the Accord.

Not up to Crutchfield's standards
Dale from Louisville, KY on 5/18/2007
I have to agree with David. The bottom pocket warps after installation, resulting in a gap through which you can see the innards of the dash. Not pretty, and not up to Crutchfield's usual high standards. And while the face of the kit has a nice pebbled finish, the inside of the pocket does not. Instead, the plastic surface has a crude, unfinished look with mold and tooling marks that are readily visible if no CDs are stored in the pocket. I've yet to find a quality dash kit for 1998-2002 Accords. This one isn't it.

Does not fit properly in 2002 Honda Accord EX
David from Columbus, OH on 8/5/2005
2002 Honda Accord
I installed this kit in a 2002 Honda Accord EX. It mounts just fine, and holds the deck just fine, but the bottom pocket gets warped pressing against a plate at the bottom of the center console trim. This leaves a small space where you can see the metal behind the dash. I also didn't like the permant grooves for holding CDs, which make the pocket practically useless for storing anything else. I sure hope there is a more asthetically pleasing kit out there.
