Easy once you figure it out

Alan from Cypress, TX on 8/20/2017

2005 Toyota Tundra

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Instructions are somewhat vague and not well illustrated. Once I understood that I did not use the plastic side pieces and trim plate, it was simple. Insert the radio unit and use a screwdriver to lift the tabs and he held the radio pretty snug. Once it was mounted in the dash and the dash trim was re-installed, the radio has a solid fit.

Pros: Works fine

Cons: Instructions not that clear and illustrations lacking

Spoke with a gentleman on the phone about installing an aftermarket radio. He suggested a number of purchases for the installation. I was not going to purchase all of them as I thought it was excessive. I decided to purchase everything and I'm glad I did! I used everthing recommended and the installation was a breeze.

Pros: Great customer service and recommendations were spot on.

This is pretty much a drop-in for my 2005 Tundra. The only issue I had was that it seemed slightly twisted; I had a time getting it installed straight, and ended up putting a shim underneath for alignment. It straightened up nicely once the control panel was re-installed, though.

Pros: Fits, fills the odd-sized slot

Cons: casting was pretty far off from straight

The mount instructions were easy to follow. The plastic mount tab deformed when tightening the mount bolts with minimal torque. Time will tell how the mount screws stay tight with driving vibrations. The face plate was lose after install; used foam tape to hold in place.

Pros: Easy to follow instructions.

Cons: Plastic mount tabs flexed when torqued.

Jeremy from Spokane, WA on 1/28/2014

The product looks good once installed, but the mounting tabs are weak. The tabs are so weak as you tighten then they twist and will break. Not a show stopper as you just need to hold tabs straight as you tighten. They could be better but good enough to buy.

Pros: Looks good once installed, fit was tight fitting around the Tundra bezel

Cons: Tabs are weak and you can't tighten they too much, nothing a little lock tight won't prevent from loosening but I have used better systems that had better mounting.

Fits well, but texture and color are a little off

FEP Coder from Livermore, CA on 11/3/2012

2004 Toyota Tundra

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This kit worked as well or better than any other that I've used. It fits tightly in the hole in the dash panel of my Tundra. It would be really ideal if the texture, color and sheen matched the Toyota dash panel a little better. Alternatively, it could match the Sony radio better. Either would be nice.

Pros: Goes together well. Fits both the receiver and the dash well. Easy to install.

Cons: The black plastic is too shiny, has more texture and needs to be a little more gray to really match the dashboard perfectly.

While the item does work, technically, it's construction leaves a LOT to be desired.

Pros: It does fit the opening, but that's about the only "pro" it's got going for it.

Cons: Way too flimsy and just not what I'd call a quality piece. To keep the gaps right with the factory dash cover, you have to hold the front of it to keep it from deflecting when you tighten the dang screws. It's pathetic.

Toyota In-dash Rcvr Kit

Blake from Carrabelle, FL on 1/24/2012

2004 Toyota Tundra

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Kit is simple and easy to install but does have 2 issues which I knocked off a star for each. One is the plastic is very flemsy so it be would be very easy for a thief to snap it out of the dash. Two is the storage compartment under the radio is to tight and slick. I have average size hands and if you put something small in it that slides to the back you can't fit your fingers in there to get it out. Have to use a pen to fish it out. It does hold my cell phone and the radio remote well but I had to put a small strip of the soft side of velcro along the front of the opening to keep them fm flying out at me.
