Good trim to upgrade stereo!

This dash Kit was installed into a 2001 Audi S4. Kit works well for the installation of the double din Kenwood receiver that I had. What I was not a huge fan of is that it is only held into place by two plastic clips at the top. To access these clips for removal or installation of additional items (Amp and reverse camera) you need to pry them back. Which I have found can only be done with the top wood/black trim around the fog light / Hazard / cup holder area. Luckily i have it removed to replace the cup holder. Trim does look pretty good!

In general the product worked. I used it for a double din, so I had to modify it for it to work. Then what I didn't like was a little plastic sticking out that I had to file down so it wouldn't be noticeable. Someone that is not handy and using this for a double din should not get it.

A Great Value

I've purchased this product 3 times. The first 2 times I used it as the basis for very custom installations (Android tablet and car PC installations). This 3rd time, I'm using it as it was intended. In all cases, I was very impressed by the quality. This kit is versatile, complete and very sturdy. If there's anything to complain about, it's that the surface texture doesn't quite match the OEM plastics in the dash, but it's not something I ever notice now that it's installed. For the money, it's hard to go wrong.

Average fitment, best one out there for our cars

The only thing I do not like about this is the small frame that goes around the actual "unit" is always loose, if you bondo it from the inside fits much better. Best one out there for this model car though, 3rd time buying it.

It worked fine but it's not as straight forward as you'd think it would be. First you will not be using the metal radio cage that comes with your radio. You will be using the plastic brackets that come with the kit. Next you need a cutting tool to cut out the center bar if you are using it in the DD configuration. The instructions suggest using a box cutter, you'd probably end up cutting yourself or mangling the face plate before you cut through that plastic with a box cutter. Once you cut the center bar out you will have to also cut off the plastic tabs it leaves behind. You'll see it once you get it. Don't follow the instructions when you try to put the brackets on the face plate either, you'll just get frustrated and through the whole thing in the trash. Put one bracket on, slide the head unit in per the instructions leaving enough space to slide the second bracket into place then snapping it to the face plate. I promise it's easier that way. Then using the bolts from the head unit secure the brackets to the site of the head unit. Then finish the install.

Fits the B5 Audi S4 like a glove, with no tools!

I have no complaints about the Metra 99-9105 Kit! It fit my 2000 Audi S4 perfectly without tools and I am now happily listening to my music! The face and holder fit flush with radio set back only a tiny bit in single-Din config and radio set back a bit in double-din config but it looks stock. I had a piece of black "hazard" trim from an A4 (S4 comes in wood trim) and I used that to make it look even more stock. Great product overall and no gaps!

This kit fits perfect. I like that it comes with everything you need, plus some other pieces, should you change your DIN size later down the road. I had a single DIN headunit laying around that I installed, but will be installing a double DIN nav unit in the future, and I won't have to buy a different kit. That is nice. Plus Metra kits are always nice quality and are a good match to the factory plastics they abut to.

How can it be removed

Fit okay. As others have said it doesn't clip into the dash very easy. I question how I remove it if I want to add to the system or need to pull the head unit for service. I emailed Metra with this question. I told them the car that it was ordered for and their reply was this, " what's the part number?".

Audi A4/S4 in-dash Kit 2000-2002

The kit ended up looking good but the two upper clips that engage into the dash frame are not designed well. The cilps have a cored out section on the clip head so when you go to push them in, the two small walls of the cored area deform. This causes the clip to not flex easy and are almost impossible to push in fully. I alsmost broke the clips before filing down the clip head contact area a few times to remove the deformed area before finally getting them in. Took me an extra hour to do all this while trying to not break the plastic clips. I would recommend to the manufacturer to reverse the cored area or add another wall inside the cored area to increase the engaging surface area which will reduce deforming. FYI-I design plastic parts for a living.

Impressive

I was not really expecting much from this kit. I was intending on sanding it down and spraying it with plastidip to match the trim on the center console. When it arrived i test fit it and it looked OEM. The holding clips on the top were a little tight, but with a little effort, it fits perfect.

Finally...

I have to start off by saying I'm a little upset at how long it took Crutchfield to carry this, but am happy they finally do. Its really your basic dash kit, but one that took a while (before Crutchfield carried it) to find. If you purchase this kit, just try and get all the wiring and everything don in one shot, because the plastic clips do break fairly easily. The kit looks great with my Alpine CVA-1004 and Alpine DVA-7996, and with 2 little metal toggles switches mounted on the left side to allow me to view the screen while driving.
