About the Metra Helios AS-IRKIT

Control all of your A/V gear, even in an enclosed cabinet

Metra's Helios AS-IRKIT infrared repeater kit gives you easy remote control of your home theater receiver and other A/V gear placed in an enclosed cabinet, where your regular IR remote's signals can't reach. It includes four dual-emitter IR blasters that give you control of up to eight components.

Simple, intuitive set up

The low-profile IR sensor gets mounted on your TV's bezel or stand within line of sight of your remotes. The sensor receives your remote's commands and relays them back to an IR hub hidden away inside the cabinet. The hub in turn sends the commands to each of the four dual-output infrared emitters, which you place in front of your components. Use any of your existing remote controls or a universal one to control your equipment.

Product Research

Features

IR Repeater System: The AS-IRKIT IR Repeater System allows you to use an existing infrared (IR) remote control to operate up to 8 audio/video components located behind closed doors or walls in an entertainment cabinet or equipment closet. The AS-IRKIT IR Repeater System  consists of a hide-away repeater box, one 39" IR receiver, three 6.5' dual IR emitters, one 17' dual IR emitter, and a AC power adapter.

IR (Infrared) Replication: The AS-IRKIT IR Repeater System effectively replicates infrared signals (30-60kHz frequency range) from remote controls to reach your components (up to 8) stored remotely or hidden in enclosed cabinets.

Notes:
  • Protect the IR receiver from plasma screens and devices that emit too much low-frequency RF or an excess of ambient light, including direct sunlight, floodlights, and some halogen or fluorescent lamps.
  • You'll enjoy increased range in dimmer applications, as this IR repeater system has more sensitivity with less ambient light.

Hide-Away IR Repeater Box: The included hide-away IR repeater box features an IR receiver input and four IR emitter outputs. The IR receiver input & emitter outputs consist of 3.5mm minijack terminals. As the hub of the IR repeater system, it receives signals from the remotely located infrared receiver and channels them to the remotely located IR emitters and your components. The hide-away IR repeater box can be mounted in a discreet location on top of furniture or next to a TV to replicate infrared signals from your IR remote controls.

Note: The hide-away IR repeater box measures 4.1875" (w) x 2.0625" (h) x 1.0625" (d).

IR Receiver: The AS-IRKIT IR Repeater System includes one IR receiver which features an attached 39" cable that is terminated by a male 3.5mm connector that plugs into the hide-away IR repeater box. The "eye" of the IR receiver is located in the tip of the IR receiver and should be facing the area from which you will be using your remote controls. Peel back the tape on the bottom of the IR receiver to stick to a clean, flat surface.

Note: The IR receiver measures 1.1875" (w) x 1.0625" (h) x 0.625" (d).

Four Dual IR Emitters: The AS-IRKIT IR Repeater System comes with a total four dual IR emitters; there is one 17' dual IR emitter and three 6.5' dual IR emitters. Each emitter is terminated by a male 3.5mm connector that plugs into the hide-away IR repeater box. The dual IR emitters should be attached directly over your components' IR receptors using the integrated peel-&-stick tape. If you prefer, you can attach the dual IR emitters to a shelf so that it is facing the components' IR eyes and within 3" of the eye.

Note: The dual IR emitters measure 0.5" (w) x 0.5" (h) x 0.75" (d).

Power Requirements: The hide-away IR repeater box operates off of standard household current using the supplied AC power adapter with 47" DC cord.

  • Input: 120-240V~50/60Hz, 0.3A
  • Output: 5V DC, 5000mA

Can you use a wall plate for the sensor?
[ Nick  Feb 18, 2019 ]

A
I don't know. With infrared sensors, which these are, there has to be "line of sight" transmission capability.

I had to cut and splice the wires to get them into my cabinet. You could buy wire at a box store and make it any length you want if you are up for the diy. Approx 22ga stranded wire
[ Thomas  Apr 07, 2018 ]
A
Not that I am aware of. The manufacturer may offer longer cords.
