About the Axxess AX-GMCL2 Wiring Interface

Problem: Installing an aftermarket receiver in many GM vehicles means losing the chime that warns the door is open, along with audible safety warnings.

Problem: Installing an aftermarket receiver in many GM vehicles means losing the chime that warns the door is open, along with audible safety warnings.

Solution: Metra's AX-GMLC2 interface lets you replace the factory receiver in these vehicles while keeping the door chime and all audible safety warnings as well as your Retained Accessory Power feature (R.A.P.). The interface provides 12-volt accessory power, and also supplies the illumination, parking brake, reverse, and speed sense outputs you'll need to install a navigation receiver. The package includes a pre-wired harness to connect Axxess' ASWC-1 adapter (sold separately) to retain your steering wheel audio controls.

Wire up the AX-GMLC2 to your aftermarket radio, mount the module in a location where the chime can be heard, and plug it into the existing factory plug. Get the great sound you want, and keep all important safety features intact. The AX-GMLC2 does not retain OnStar and is designed for non-amplified factory systems, systems with analog amplifiers, or systems in which the factory digital amp has been bypassed. Warranty: 1 year.

Factory Non-Amplified and Amplified System Compatible: The Metra AX-GMCL2 is designed for GM vehicles with factory non-amplified audio systems, factory analog amplified audio systems, or when bypassing the factory amplifier. The AX-GMCL2 will retain balance and fade control.

R.A.P. (Retained Accessory Power): The ignition power source of most GM vehicles keeps the radio on until one of the doors is opened. This feature is called the R.A.P. (retained accessory power). The Metra AX-GMCL2 is designed to retain this feature.

Retains Warning Chimes: The Metra AX-GMCL2 retains factory warning chimes through the use of an on-board speaker.

12V/10A Accessory Output: In many GM vehicles, there is no 12-volt accessory wire in the factory harness, which requires the installer to run an accessory wire to the fuse box or underneath the steering column when installing an aftermarket radio. The AX-GMCL2 is designed to provide a 12-volt/10-amp switched accessory output (red wire).

Navigation Outputs: The AX-GMCL2 provides navigation outputs (VSS, Parking Brake, and Reverse) to help ease the installation process of an aftermarket navigation stereo.

Optional Steering Wheel Control Adapter: The AX-GMCL2 allows you to retain your vehicle's steering wheel controls using Metra's ASWC-1 steering wheel control interface module (sold separately). Your aftermarket stereo most also support steering wheel controls.

Customer Q&A

Will this harness work with a Sanptent Double Din?
[ scott  Jan 11, 2023 ]
1 answer
We do not carry Sanptent radios and cannot confirm compatibility. Theoretically, this should be compatible with any generic aftermarket cart stereo.

My Sony stereo does not have an aux input. Would I need one to hook up this harness? The unit is an XAV-AX8000.
[ Darren  Feb 21, 2022 ]
1 answer
This will depend largely on your vehicle. For details on installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on what you will need for an installation.

Will this harness work if the original factory system if it is a bose in the gmc savanna 2007 conversion van?
[ Marcus  Aug 13, 2021 ]
1 answer
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

For the reverse light and parking brake connections, is there any further wiring that needs to be added besides connecting to the proper wires on the stereo head unit?

So this has a plug to go into the new radio and connections for the little box. What about the connections to the car system. Is the intention to cut of the connector to the oem radio and attach loose wires? Do I need a different product to put into the car harness?
[ Edward  Sep 29, 2020 ]
1 answer
If I remember correctly I did not have to cot and splice any wires just plug the harness into the radio and the other end into the harness from my truck. I don't know what kind of vehicle you have but I hope this helps you, it was fairly easy .
[ PETER  Oct 05, 2020 ]
What is the 3.5 mm jack on this harness, and where does it plug into?

I bought this less than 2 years ago and I started having dash issues for a while but now I have drivers door control issues. I was wondering if this could be causing my problems? Both the dash and door controls either work or not. If they start working they stay on until I switch off the key. Sometimes it goes for weeks without an issue. Anything will help rule out options.

I haven't had any issues with my truck. Just a few lights out on my dash an radio but it was like tht when I bought it. My speakers didn't work but since I replaced the radio they even work now. It's probably your wiring
[ TERRELL  Aug 11, 2020 ]
I'm sorry I've had no issues, bring a mechanic, it sounds to me you either have a wire grounding out causing problems with pcm.. First check your wiring forbare spots. Then have pcm checked
[ Tater  Aug 11, 2020 ]
Will this allow you to connect to the vehicle's computer, so you can see the tire psi, load, rpms, open doors, gauges, etc.?
[ Aaron  May 30, 2020 ]
2 answers
No. For that sort of thing, you will need one of the iMaestro type devices.
[ Jonathan  May 30, 2020 ]
Initially i read in my research that this interface would not work on my truck, but I wasn't completely sure so I called Crutchfield and spoke to Antonio. He told me it would work but not allow me to see the information you're looking for on the stereo screen. My truck isn't set up for that so that's why it wouldn't work. I hope this answers your question.
[ PETER  May 30, 2020 ]
I purchased this device from you for my son. He was installing a radio and before this arrived, he jumped the gun and began splicing wires. Do you sell the factory side of the wiring harness for the Chevy Express Van 3500, model year 2005? Thank you.
[ Jonathan  May 08, 2020 ]
1 answer
We only sell the factory replacement harness - the Axxess AX-GMCL2 is the one we recommend for that 2005 Chevy Express van. If he cut wires in the factory harness it may require some hard-wiring. Our tech support is happy to do their best to assist with that if necessary.
