About the Metra ethereal CS-AVHDM

Remember the Analog!

In recent years, as video formats have shifted from analog to digital HD, and now 4K, equipment makers have cut back on or eliminated analog connections on many A/V receivers and other gear. This audio/video adapter from Metra ethereal makes it possible to keep enjoying audio and video from old-school VCRs and camcorders through your HDMI-equipped A/V receiver or TV.

The CS-AVHDM takes 480i composite video and stereo RCA audio signals and converts them to HDMI-ready digital signals. It not only converts the composite video signal to HDMI, it also upscales the 480i signal to either 720p or 1080p (there's a selector switch). The USB-powered CS-AVHDM comes with a miniUSB-to-USB cable to plug into a USB power source, like a USB port on your TV.

Works great so far. We've only had it for a couple weeks.

Pros: Transparent & automatic. ie. auto-on.

Cons: None yet. We've used only a short time.

The first one I ordered did not work but after talking to tech support on the telephone, a replacement was sent out & upon receipt & hookup it worked fine! The instruction sheet could be more comprehensive as product specs & hook-up were either non existent or not clear as to how this item works.

Works well. Sometimes, it's to be rebooted for picture generation. But at least we can use a standard definition box to feed an HDMI TV.
