Works, bought other splitters online with same price that failed

Rolando from Grand Rapids, MI on 7/10/2018

Setup: 1) HDMI from imac to my receiver. 2) 2 HDMI outputting from receiver: one HDMI to TV and another to the splitter. 3) From the splitter I have an HDMI cord going to two TV's. * Note I also have DirecTV and Playstation inputting to my receiver so they can display on all TV's using same outputs and All TV's are 4k. Issues: TV may have a second or two of black screen when turning any of the TV's on or off while others are on (really non issue). I have had this system for about 4 months and had a glitch where I had to unplug the splitter for it to work (one time and I use almost daily) Recommendations: - If your using a mac computer don't use dongle, use cord with thunderbolt/USB C on one end and male HDMI at other end (many people have issues with the dongles even high end ones) - Buy USB to 5V DC wire (5.2mm), this saves you an outlet to power the splitter and in my case more eye appealing wire is small compared to extension cord. - Buy quality HDMI cords, I had to travel over 70 feet for my furthest TV and had to use fiberoptic HDMI cables (really pricey). I tried to use the 50 dollar ones online and even they didn't work. Background info: Most or all splitters will have issues if you try to use TV's with different resolutions which is why I have 4k on all my TV's (1080P would be just as good if it fits your needs). I recommend Fiber optic cables over Active after doing a ton of research and reading many reviews I

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Metra CS-1x2HDMSPL3 4k HDMI splitter works. BUT, I don't think it likes being connected to a 4k TV and a 1080p TV. It works, but I have to unplug the 1080p HDMI cable when I want to watch only one TV. Otherwise, it either does not display anything on my 4k TV or my TV / directv receiver says "content not supported". Also, if I turn off the 1080p TV with the 4k TV still on, the 4k's screen starts to blink. Also, going from watching a DVR recording and back to live TV is problematic too. My receiver wants to switch to TV input instead of staying on Sat/Catv input 70% of the time. And 50% of the time the Metra loses "connection" to the TV / receiver / etc after stopping a DVR program. To fix it, I have to either unplug the HDMI cable from the Metra & plug it back in or I can change channel to sometimes fix it too. All this is why I'm giving it only 3 stars. I just wonder if the Metra or another one of my devices does not like "audio return channel" HDMI cables. Which is what I use....high speed, quality HDMI audio return channel cables with "ethernet" even though I don't need audio return nor ethernet... unless that's needed for 4k / 3D. My TV is 3D capable as well.

Pros: Price. 2 port 4k HDMI 2.0 support

Cons: HDMI Signal loss upon going from DVR recordings to live TV and vice versa. Main TV starts to blink it's screen after turning off the 2nd screen.

Great little spliter for HDMI ( 1 output to 2 )

The Metra split the HDMI signal from my DirecTV Box into two Televisions with entirely different specs & sizes. Saved the excess charges from DirecTV to operate the second TV. Very Happy !!

Crutchfield asked
Why did you buy this?

To output cable to 2 receivers. One driving a 5.1 setup for main TV and the second to drive 2 channel setup at 4 other locations on property via a Niles 6 way. Splitter cables for subwoofer out to each pair (each controlled by a half hot). I can drive both systems at same time or independently. [ LEE  Jul 29, 2018 ]
My daughters have 2 TVs in their bedroom. With a cable box I can use both TVs but with Chromecast I couldn't. So Dee hooked me up with this splitter to make it work! Thanks again Dee and thanks again Crutchfield!! [ MATTHEW  Jun 05, 2018 ]

I was looking for a device to solve a specific AV problem. With the help of my adviser "Buddy" it looks like Crutchfield had exactly what I needed. The Crutchfield wesite had all the detailed specs I needed to try to ensure it would work to solve my problem. We'll see when it arrives! [ R  Apr 04, 2018 ]
Needed to split my output from Dish receiver to separate TV's. [ Rickey  Nov 28, 2017 ]
so I can run two consecutive sources through my Sony receiver to have both a TV and projector display images. [ RAYMOND C  Aug 27, 2017 ]

1 question already asked

Wat you want to do should work fine. I split with one of these between two TV's and another one the opposet way. I couldn't detect any degrading of the signal. [ PHIL  Aug 20, 2018 ]
Mine is split between my tv and my projector, but I think it should work for your application. [ Leonard  Aug 18, 2018 ]
This splitter works great when connected to two TVs with the same resolution, but not when one is 1080p and the other is 4K. So this will probably work if your receiver tells the splitter that it is the same resolution as your TV. [ David  Aug 18, 2018 ]
So Sorry....this is a signal SPLITTER that sends the SAME ORIGINAL SIGNAL to 2 different inputs. [ DOUGLAS  Aug 17, 2018 ]
So sorry this is a SIGNAL SPLITTER that can send the SAME signal to 2 different inputs. [ DOUGLAS  Aug 17, 2018 ]
Yes, you can do that. However, before you buy this check to see if your receivers have a "Stand By Pass Through" setting which sends the HDMI to the monitor even when the receiver is Off. The only problem I see is that using the splitter with the receiver on their may be a slight audio mismatch with picture. [ Peter  Aug 17, 2018 ]
You should be able to watch TV without reciver on as I use the tv volume that is of your talking about audio reciver , I use mine to hook to a projector where I can have two sources going while watching games , so basically I have regulat tv on with 7.1 sound and project same picture to 100 inch projector [ RAYMOND C  Aug 17, 2018 ]
