About the Metra ethereal HDM-SP3

HDMI is sensitive to data port ESD (electrostatic discharge) spikes, which can destroy an HDMI port and stop your electronic component from working. ESD is the sudden flow of electricity between two electrically charged objects caused by contact, an electrical short, or dielectric breakdown.

HDMI is sensitive to data port ESD (electrostatic discharge) spikes, which can destroy an HDMI port and stop your electronic component from working. ESD is the sudden flow of electricity between two electrically charged objects caused by contact, an electrical short, or dielectric breakdown.

The HDM-SP3 was designed to clamp ESD spikes up to 8000 volts down all channels of an HDMI connection, including the TMDS and DDC lines. This will protect your equipment from the spikes that enter your system through any of the data ports (coax, Ethernet and serial), usually from your CATV/internet provider.

The HDM-SP3 does not protect against direct lighting strikes, which are well beyond 8000 volts. It also doesn't protect against minor over voltage, which is neither a spike nor a surge, but rather a constant feed of too much voltage. It gets passed onto the HDMI feeds and eventually wears out the HDMI ports downstream.

The HDM-SP3 has one female HDMI jack and one male HDMI connector. Your HDMI cable plugs into the HDM-SP3's female HDMI jack, while the HDM-SP3's male  connector plugs into the input or output of your electronic device.

Features

HDMI Surge Protector: HDMI is sensitive to data port ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) spikes, which can destroy an HDMI port and stop your electronic component from working. ESD is the sudden flow of electricity between two electrically charged objects caused by contact, an electrical short, or dielectric breakdown. Metra's ethereal HDM-SP3 is designed to clamp ESD spikes up to 8000 volts (IEC 61000) down all channels including the TMDS (Transition-Minimized Differential Signaling) and DDC (Display Data Channel) lines. This will provide excellent protection from the ESD spikes that enter your systems through any of the data ports (Coax, Ethernet and Serial), usually from your CATV/Internet provider. The HDM-SP3 supports up to 24Gbps bandwidth with 6Gbps on all four channels.

Notes:

    • The HDM-SP3 does not protect against direct lighting strikes (this is well beyond 8000 volts) and does not protect against minor over voltage feeds. The HDMI-SP3 should not be used in lieu of a an AC power surge protector and line conditioner, but should be used in combination with an AC power surge protector and line conditioner (sold separately).

Connectors: The Metra ethereal HDM-SP3 is outfitted with one female HDMI jack and one male HDMI connector. Your HDMI cable plugs into the HDM-SP3's female HDMI jack, while the male HDMI connector of the HDM-SP3 plugs into the input or output of your electronic device.

  • It is highly recommended to connect the HDM-SP3 on the HDMI output of any source device (such as a cable or satellite box) that has Ethernet, coax or serial connections.
  • It is also highly recommended to connect the HDM-SP3 on the HDMI input of any display device (such as a TV) with a coax or Ethernet cable connected.
