About the Install Bay FH-168

Buck Pomerantz

Get your speakers sounding right

The speakers in your stereo system should all be acoustically "in phase" with one another — cones moving in and out the same way at the same time — so the sound will have uniform strength and frequency response everywhere in your listening space. Install Bay's FH-168 phase checker can tell you if your speaker's wired correctly or needs rewiring. Play a test tone or repeating signal "pops" through the speaker, hold the FH-168 and its built-in microphone in front of the speaker, and the red and green lights will tell you what you want to know: a green light means it's in phase; a red light means it's out of phase. A yellow light warns you when the battery needs replacing.

This tester is designed to be used in conjunction with a separate test signal source, like Install Bay's online polarity test tone, or PAC's TL-PTG2 tone generator and polarity tester. Warranty: 1 year.

Features

Overview: The Install Bay IB-FH168 Speaker Polarity Tester lets you verify that your speakers are wired correctly. After downloading the Install Bay Polarity Test Tone, found here, the test tone can be played back on your audio system via a connected smartphone or media player. The Polarity Tester gets held in front of each speaker while the test tone plays, and a Test On/Off button lets you start testing when the IB-FH168 is in position. A microphone at the top of the tester will pick up the test tone while LED indicators for +Polarity and -Polarity will light to indicate if the speaker polarity is in-phase or out-of-phase. The IB-FH168 is powered by a 9V battery (included) and features a Low Battery LED indicator.
