Extend AC power to remote locations

Have you ever gone to plug in a new piece of A/V gear, and discovered there was no power outlet nearby? The Metra ethereal IECWP Power Plate can help. This problem-solving receptacle is part of a DIY solution for installing an AC receptacle in an area that doesn't have existing 120-volt wiring.

How it works

The IECWP Power Plate installs into a standard single-gang bracket near an existing AC outlet or surge protector. It gets power from an IEC power cable (not included) that plugs into the nearby outlet.

You'll run three-conductor electrical wire (not included) from the back of the Power Plate to an additional AC receptacle (not included) that you'll install behind your TV or other A/V equipment. The included wire nuts make connecting the bare wire to the Power Plate simple.

This helpful video from Metra's Brent McCall walks you through the entire process.

Product Research

Features

IEC Wall Plate: The Metra Ethereal MHA Series IECWP IEC Wall Plate fits flush in the wall (using a single-gang box; sold separately) and is the ideal solution for providing surge protected power to your flat screen TV or projector. The IECWP IEC Wall Plate features a UL-listed 110V outlet and provides a low voltage cable pass-thru (Romex cable sold separately; not available at Crutchfield) to get power from your wall-mounted flat-panel TV or ceiling-mounted projector to a surge protector/line conditioner.

  • Install a standard 110V AC power outlet (sold separately) near your wall-mounted TV; this is where your TV's power cord will plug into.
  • Then run Romex cable (sold separately) from behind the power outlet through the wall to where you will mount the Metra IEC Wall Plate.
  • Mount and install the Metra IECWP (using a single-gain box: sold separately) in the wall next to your AV equipment and surge protector/line conditioner.
  • Then connect the IECWP to your surge protector/line condition using a standard IEC power cord (sold separately).

Notes:

  • See Accessory Tab for the purchase of single-gang box and IEC power cable.
  • AC power outlet and Romex cable are not available at Crutchfield, and can be found at most local hardware stores.
  • Professional installation is recommended; consult an electrician.

3-Wire Pass-Thru: On the back of the Metra Ethereal MHA Series IECWP IEC Wall Plate is a 3-wire pass-thru for connection of a Romex cable (sold separately). The 3-wire pass-thru consiste of a Black wire (hot), Green wire (ground), and White wire (neutral).
