I received the Spyclops SPY-NVR4720W as a gift. I mounted the cameras on the outside of my home with all the cameras easily within 25' of the base station. They work from time to time, freeze up or just stop transmitting. One never sends a signal. (I know it works, because I connected it directly to the base station.) I spent several hours with a tech going through the various settings and concluded that I move the antenna in different positions or purchase some booster antennas. I really do not believe I should have to purchase anything else in order for this product to work properly. The signal does have to go through one and two walls, but so does my cell phone and it works great. The transmission power of this product is very weak and unless you plan to have all your cameras in the same room as the base station, I would avoid this product. When the cameras do transmit, the picture is good. The company needs to design a stronger signal boost and a way to increase the signal for those base units they have already sold.

Pros: Nice picture when properly transmitting. Easy placement on house.

Cons: Very weak transmission signal. Poor explanation of how to set up the cameras and what any symbols in the upper corners mean on the viewing box...when it works. When the cameras do transmit, they lock up and fade out completely. I have a "control" camera in the room with the base unit and it transmits great all the time. So it comes down to weak connection between the base unit and outside cameras just 25' away.

Great Product for the Professional

Instructions are not that great. Cams need to be close to a receptacles unless you spend the money on a power distribution box and wiring.

Pros: Good quality. Video quality is Amazing. Ability to view from smart devices. Low strain on wifi network. Optional hard wire abilities.

Cons: Installation instructions are very poor. Need additional power supply and wiring if receptacle is not close to cams

Good product, but not the easiest set up for non-professionals

I purchased this product due to some issues with vandalism at my house. The initial set up of the physical equipment was quite easy. The cameras connected with my Wi-Fi network within a few minutes of being plugged in. The recorded video quality is really quite good. I was disappointed with not having the ability to be able to zoom in on the video, although I'm not sure if there are other products on the market that allow this. It could just be a function of this type of product and not the brand/model itself. The only real struggle I had with this system is settings options. The installation instructions are horrible and very limited. I had questions on what settings to choose and the included instructions did not address any specific settings. I searched all over the internet for help, however, only found a downloadable version of the same instructions that came with the unit. I finally ended up calling the support line and they were extremely helpful. They explained that the system is intended for set up by professionals and not your average homeowner, such as myself. I have yet to figure out the time stamps, as they show up correct on the live version, but when I do video playback, AM and PM are reversed and military time is the only option. Aside from those issues (which in my opinion, can be solved by calling the support line), I am very happy with this product and would recommend it.

Pros: Easy physical set up and good video quality

Cons: Settings are not intuitive for a naïve homeowner... you'll either need a professional installer, familiar with security cameras or you'll need to spend some time on the phone with the support desk.

Needed Electrician to wire in cameras and a IT person to connect to devices. Directions were not clear or helpful. But the end result is great.

Pros: clear pictures, should serve us well

Cons: Not easy to do it yourself. Instructions not clear or detailed.

Customer Q&A

Crutchfield asked: Why did you buy this?
Price is my most factor. [ T  Dec 03, 2016 ]
The Spyclops wireless video surveillance system has all the features that I was looking for, and the price was better than comparable systems on the market. The HD bullet cameras, with infrared night vision is a plus for night time surveillance. The ability to network to my PC and to configure to my cell phone with the free app is important. I'm eager to get the system installed to keep an eye on my property. [ Robert P.  Aug 09, 2016 ]

How long will this record and what happens when memory full?
[ Jaime  May 14, 2019 ]
1 answer
Jaime, I reached out to Spyclops directly with your question. There is not a set amount of time, as it is dependent on the settings you use, and the content that gets recorded. The minimum estimate I was given was ~1-2 weeks. that would increase when set up to only record based on motion activation. As far as what happens when the memory is full, it records over the earliest content, so it overwrites in a loop.

Does the system require a regular computer monitor and are they easy to pair?
[ Ann  Oct 04, 2018 ]
1 answer
When connected to your router with internet access, you can use the free EseeNet+ app to remotely view your system from any web browser, iPhone, iPad, or Android device. The network video recorder can also be connected directly to a monitor via it's HDMI or VGA outputs. what is the camera view degrees? some other brands have a 105 degree viewing.
[ stan  Mar 08, 2018 ]
1 answer
I don't know the degree of angle of the camera lens, but it appears to be a wide angle view, although it is not described as a "wide angle" lens. The manual enclosed with the system makes no reference to the angle of view, but it is perfect for my use and is a nice system.

I have not encountered this error. Are you connecting using wires or wireless (WI-FI)? I would recommend that you reboot the HDD and make sure all cameras are connected, and that all cables are connected correctly. There is a setup menu, but the enclosed user manual does not address all possible issues one may encounter. If you can't solve the HDD error problem, you can find the Spyclops manufacturer online. I found this last year and they answered all my technical questions.

These cameras are not wireless from power. There are 118" long cables included to help power them. Feel free to call an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 for a personal recommendation. My Bio:
