Great for speaker protection.

Protects my 12 inch Kicker subwoofer on a box well. Works as advertised.

Pros: Good speaker protection. Good price value.

Cons: It's not cool looking, but my subwoofer box is hidden.

Protect your sub-woofer from the perps..

Used the grill grate to protect my 8" Kicker sub-woofer mounted in my 2011 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. It mounted securely to the rear deck and should prevent damage from my K-9, kids, and rowdy friends. The strong grate design works perfectly in the back of a retired police car.

Pros: Value, strength, design

Used these to protect alpine 12" bassline subs and they worked good, although I needed spacers for the sold separately clips, to raise them up to the height of the subs. I used large bolts

Subwoofer Grille

Crutchfield customer from Medina, OH on 10/31/2018

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

It is a nice grill and as expected and good quality but is smaller than I expected. I bought a 10 in speaker and thought a 10 in grill would work. It does not. It would work if I glue the grill to the top plastic frame of my woofer and I may still do that. Then it will look very good because it will perfectly match the woofer frame size. I just need to make sure the woofer will not vibrate and touch the grill.

Insufficient clearance

Ron from Frederick, CO on 9/26/2018

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Since infinity does not make a grill cover for their 10 inch kappa, I bought this universal one. My installer said it does not allow clearance for the subwoofer. I could not use it. It may work for others but not for the Kappa. This is in no way a reflection on Crutchfield, they are awesome .

Pros: Looks well built

Cons: Not built to allow clearance for 10" Kappa

Decent universal grills

Alex from Long Grove, IL on 1/22/2018

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Needed these to protect the sub & radiator in my loaded Kicker box that came without grills. Just barely fit with minimum clearance for cone travel (big surround & travel on Kickers) but as long as you center them no problem. One adviser said they'd fit, one said they wouldn't - they sit flat on the outer frame of the speaker so depending on the design they may not work with all 12" subs. Sturdy construction and a reasonable price (better still as open box from the outlet!). Easy to mount with the matching clamps - would be nice if those were included but I suppose not everyone uses them as they are kind of large. Open mesh won't restrict sound. Not as slick as the grills that JL has for their subs but have to compromise for universal fit. Worthwhile purchase.

Pros: - Study construction - Fit my sub perfectly

Cons: - Clamps not included

Excellent protection

Dave from Cincinnati, OH on 5/4/2017

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Quick mounting. Worked perfectly with the Polk 10" woofers that I purchased from Crutchfield. I have a sub box in the cargo area of my Ford Transit Connect and I needed to protect the woofers from building materials that I frequently transport from the hardware store to my apartment buildings. I've worried about this for a couple of months and wish that I had ordered these grills when I ordered the woofers. Had the Crutchfield software reminded me that I might need these, I would have ordered them when I ordered the woofers.

Pros: Sturdy, clean appearance, mounted to woofer box in less than 5 minutes. (8 screws per speaker grill)

Cons: The mounting brackets and screws should probably be sold with the grills. It would be easy to order the grills and later discover that the mounting brackets are not included.

Worked great. Well other than my nvx 12"'s have a thicker ring around the face so I had to put spacers in underneath the grille clamps. The only thing that would make these better is if they included the grille clamps and sold em both as a package. All and all my subs are now protected so I'm happy! Keep stocking quality Products Crutchfield!

Pros: Easy to install. Keeps you sub from getting poked or gouged!

Cons: Wish they Came With mounting hardware or grille clamps.

Ken from Mansfield, TX on 3/30/2015

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Good sturdy speaker grilles. Exactly as they are portrayed. Rubber ring does a good job of acting as a dampener and can be removed if needed.

Pros: Look good. Are a whole lot better than plastic!

Cons: Could stand to be deeper. I bought 12" hoping I could reduce the head height on the 10" speakers in my cabinet. These grills would not give the 10" enough room for full travel when mounted directly to the enclosure. I had to raise them anyway. Might as well have bought the same size as the speakers and mounted them on top.

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I was scared to death after having my new sub woofer and amp package installed in the car. The enclosure I'd selected had nothing to protect the speaker. The guys at the shop said that's the way most people do it because they want to show off their equipment. Not me. It's in the trunk of a car that gets used a lot. Without a cover I'd surely stick a fishing pole or rifle barrel through my expensive speaker. It fit my kicker 12" sub just fine. Just don't forget to order the clips to screw it on!

Pros: Easy to install

Walter from N. Charleston, SC on 12/3/2013

These grills are of good quality and offer good protection, but be warned!!!! They DO NOT fit on the Pioneer TS-W254R or any of the champion series subs. My problem is they simply sat on top and were almost 1/4 to small in diameter! Don't get me wrong, the grill its self is great, but the universal fit was kinda misleading and a waste of money since its cost half of what i paid to return it.

Pros: Good Quality Nice finish

Cons: Didn't fit

Don't tell Crutchfield or the maker I said this but these grills are worth more than what I paid for them if you are buying them for protection. They are very strong. Not strong enough to hold up me 6'1" 250#, but plenty strong enough to protect your high priced subs from life's daily hazards. If you want style & protection come up with a cool paint scheme & have at it. If you goof it up, get out the black & start over.

Pros: Well made, strong & best of all A Bargain!

Should have bought spacers

S. Kusen from Brookhaven, PA on 9/4/2013

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

As other reviewers suggested and even the product page itself, I should have purchased the spacers. I put this on the Rockford Fosgate Prime R1L-1X10 enclosure, and naturally it was raised up. Instead of waiting for spacers I piled two on the top left of the sub and two on the bottom right to hold it in place, and so far it's holding. Just put it on to naturally protect my sub, so it's getting the job done.

Pros: Good grill

Cons: Should just come packaged with spacers, they would be cheap enough to toss in or even charge another $1 on the product to include them.

Dan C from Lacey, WA on 5/13/2013

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Although these grills are quite cheap, they are EXCELLENT quality. I was looking for grilles to protect my subs, not really to look great. They fill that role perfectly. As my subs are mounted under the back seat of my '08 Dodge 2500, I was worried about the seat pressing down onto the speakers when people sat in the seat. The seat still flexes like it always has, but the grilles are rock solid. You could literally sit on the grille by itself and it wouldn't bend. Like I said, great quality, especially for the price. The only issue I can see is if you have a really large rubber surround on your woofer. In that case, you might run into clearance issues, especially with a top-mount setup (for the record, both of mine are top-mount and I had no issues). But with Crutchfield's return policy, you can't go wrong.

Pros: Super heavy gauge steel. Fits 10" Polk Dxi sub perfectly. Easy to install.

Cons: May have clearance issues with SOME top-mount setups.

Okay Speaker Grilles

CB from Las Vegas, NV on 3/27/2013

Great sturdy Grilles, they will protect your speakers. The only issue I had, was on one of my cars, the speaker stuck out further than the grille clamps would allow. Although I was able to still use them, I got a dowel and cut it to length, about 1/3 inch long for each grille clamp and was able to put a screw through the clamp, then dowel and then into the speaker box.

Pros: Sturdy and look good

Cons: had to make a custom mounting surface to use on one speaker box. But still looks and works great.

I used this grill to protect a 15 in. bass guitar speaker in a home-made cabinet. Fit perfectly and looks good too.

Pros: Fits

Cons: Would rather have the speaker screws hold in place, but the brackets do the job.

I purchased one of these grilles (12") for my Infinity 1260W 12" subwoofer. It fits almost perfectly. It is a little small but if you are willing to see 1/16" of the speaker's mount all the way around then it is perfect for you.

These didn't work out for an Alpine SWR-1243D

Phong from Washington on 2/27/2011

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Unfortunately these Grille didn't work out for an Alpine SWR-1243D. These Grille will sit on top of the subwoofer and if you want them to stay on, you'll probably gonna have to drill holes through the grilles. Because these sit right on the subwoofer, the clamps that came with it definitely will not work because you won't be able to mount the clamps and drill them into your box. I ended up having to buy one that was made by Alpine. Judging by the provided clamps, my guess is that these grille are meant for a much smaller subwoofers where these grille do not make any contact with the subwoofer.

Grill Mount info

Darren from Bedford, IN on 2/20/2010

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Very strong, heavy duty. however watch out for the required mounting brackets, if the grill is mounted flush on the box, they won't work. I suspect the grills are to mount on top of the speaker frame but note: I bought 10" to cover an 8" sub that is top mounted. If it was mounted on top of the sub as I think was intended, they would clamp down but I think it would interfere with the surround of the driver even though mine is not a "long excursion" woofer. Measurements would be nice for reference since most apps will be custom made. I'll be sending the brackets back so no big deal, that's part of customizing isn't it. I designed a better way to mount them and am glad it worked out that way.

I bought this grille for my Infinity Kappa (10") 104.7 sub and it doesn't fit at all. It's not big enough or deep enough for a top mounted installation. Possibly the manufacturer intended it for an internally mounted sub. Not an option for me. The grille is very sturdy and will definitely to the job so long as it fits.

Fine Product but Beware of the Fitment

The grille is sturdy and looks fine but was not wide enough or tall enough for the 12" RF Punch Stage 2 Sub. Crutchfield can not possibly know every fitment but are more than happy to take them back postage paid on their side. It's not a lot of money but just make sure you tell the rest of us if they don't fit and what the speaker was.

The grilles are heavier than they look and will protect your subs very well. Once I had my enclosures finished they look professional. By using these grilles they remind me of professional equipment that can cranked up to 11 on a scale of 1 - 10 and then when done, throw in the truck and be off to your next gig.

If your subs don't come with grills or they come with plastic grills, get these metal ones. Especially if you use the area where your subs are located like the trunk. These grills are strong and will protect your investment no matter what you throw in the trunk. They are kind of ugly, but well worth the protection.

Want to protect your investment? This is the only way to go. Sure the other grills may look cool, but will they stand the test when little brother tosses something in the direction of your system. Perhaps your boogie board gets recklessly thrown in? Why take the chance? They can be easily removed when you just want to show your system.

Will this fit on a JBL S2-1224 (12" subwoofer)? I bought a grill somewhere else, and it's too small. The JBL mounting ring is 12-7/8" across, and the screw holes are 12" across from each other. If this won't fit, what grill would you recommend? Thanks! subwoofer?

It won't fit around the outside but may work sitting on top of the frame. I used it on a 12" Kicker box and it fit nicely - look through the reviews for the grill, mine has a picture, posted on 1/22/18. You don't use the screw holes, there are plastic clamps that are purchased separately, may need to put a spacer underneath them so they sit straight. I'm pretty happy with the way they work and look, holding up well in the back of an SUV.

Due to the depth of this grill and the shape of my subwoofer (MTX 12"), the woofer would bang against the grill if i simply mounted the grill and turned on music. I need to space this grill away from the subwoofer cone (actually, away from the rubber ring around the cone). Any suggestions?

I purchased a spacer (see Atrend, google it) then modified the spacer with a dremel to fit my grille. This was for a 10 inch sub. You may be able to locate the same from the above company fore a 12" sub. Mine enabled me to use a grille to protect a down firing Infinity sub woofer.
[ Mark  Jan 24, 2014 ]
A
There are grills made for subs with a high cone surround such as Polk, Kicker, etc. Either use something like that, or make a spacer. You could either make a MDF trim ring that goes around the outside of the sub and then mount the grill to that. In the past, I have also made a double front on boxes with the sub being mounted to the inner layer and grill cloth, regular grills, or nothing at all. It looks nice recessed like that.
[ Bambihunter71  Jan 16, 2014 ]
A
Add to the rubber ring with foam or rubber from lowes and see what happens or mount the box the speaker is in to a location so it doesn't move and leave the grill off.
