Pioneer DEH-2400UB

Strong, solid sound
Most factory car radios don't have the power to give your tunes the punch they need, especially when you're listening at highway speeds. This Pioneer's MOSFET amplifier uses special transistors to deliver plenty of usable "real world" power, so you enjoy high-fidelity performance. When you're listening to the music on your iPod®, Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever reverses the compression process to add back some of the sonic info that's lost in the digital conversion. You'll notice a nice improvement in the sound quality of your MP3 and WMA files.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My only issue is that the volume knob is so short that when you try to adjust the volume you hit several other buttions. This can be avoided if you use the remote, but in a pickup truck is seems a little strange to use a remote. The short knob does allow for a removable faceplate, a feature I did not know was part of the product. Over all I am very happy with the unit. There does not seem to be a command to 'seek' the next radio station when traveling.

Pros: Many functions (especially with iPod or usb drive). Removable face plate. Included remote. Many, many functions. Bright display.

Cons: Very short volume control is difficult to use. Does not seem to have a 'seek next station' ability.

    works very nice

my old car stock radio broke, bought this one and works great. Happy i went with Crutchfield, installation is not too bad if you have the tools. i've never installed before but with the directions given it's not too bad.

    Pros: usb functionality is great

    A very nice unit

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I would have given this a 5 star across the board but the only thing that I think could be improved is the volume knob. It is recessed too much and it is a bit small for a person with large hands to operate. But I installed this in my wife's (with small hands) Jeep Cherokee, and she can use it with no problem.

Pros: Nice red display. USB and audio in port is a big plus. Easy to set up.

    Cons: Just the volume knob.

Cons: My only con is the volume is a little touchy when your adjusting it you have to make sure you have no pressure on the knob so it will just do volume

Bought this CD player for the AUX functionality and it has been great. Sound quality is very nice and the CD player is very user friendly and easy to program. My sales advisor at Crutchfield, Blake, referred this product to me and I thank him for that. All around great purchase for the price.

Can't beat the price! Installed easily and worked without any problems. However, I found the controls a bit non-initiative (especially when controlling an iPhone), but reading the booklet helped some.

Pros: Inexpensive; does what it says; quality seems good

Cons: The control panel is bright and flashy - rather obnoxious, especially at night. I'll be driving cross country next week and I intend to cover the display with yellow stickies!

    Great Product

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this during a sale with all the extras for free. What a steal for the price. First time ordering a radio from them, great instructions. The radio itself is a really nice unit. I have had better units than this, with more bells and whistles, but your buying a radio for sound, and this sounds no different than the more expensive models. One thing to note is that this unit is a little more on the technical side to setup. It has more flexibility, and adjustments than you would think coming from a unit of this price. What makes it a little more difficult is that the manual gives you no direction on how to set it up, so your kinda left on your own to figure it out. And honestly I am a bit of a tech geek, and this unit proved to be a little frustrating at times figuring out what I was doing. So my advice is once you install, take a good 30 to 60 minutes and make all the necessary adjustments, there is no way you can do this while driving.

Pros: For the price this is a steal!! Has a ton of nice features for such a small price.

Cons: Learning curve to set it up is fairly hard. Once your setup your good to go, but directions are something left to be desired.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After installing this unit in my 04 Ranger, it took a little while to get used to the random settings. I wish there were 2 knobs, one for the volume and one for tunning. The skip/ trak button doubles as a preset button which is sort of annoying. Okay, I got the only negative thing out of the way, and that was just me being OCD! This is a great unit for the price. I thought I was going to have to buy better speakers later, but the unit actually perfected the sound I already had. I bought this unit because I liked the fact that there aren't a hundred buttons and the screen isn't cluttered. It's a slick design, other than the aggrivating button mentioned above. For the price, this unit is a steal! It's not Bluetooth fancy with all the bells and whistles, but it's what I was looking for. I like simple, and this is simple. I would definitely buy another just like it! Oh, and I love the AUX port!

Pros: Price, quality sound, easy install.

Cons: Skip/ trak button doubles as preset button.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My daughter wanted a relatively simple stereo with a USB port for her flash drive. This fits the bill perfectly. There's just one easy-to-use menu that makes setup fairly easy. You need to read the manual, but once you go through the setup, it's more intuitive after that. Enough features to make it interesting without being over-complicated. Browsing folders on the flash drive is really easy. My only complaint is it doesn't support MP4. 99% of what we download from ITunes is MP4 and all the CDs I imported into ITunes are MP4, so it's a common standard that all stereos should support. I found in ITunes where I can convert MP4 to MP3 so it's not a show-stopper - just a hassle. Overall I highly recommend it. Btw, Crutchfield's vehicle-specific instructions made it easy to install. The wire colors of the receiver harness and vehicle adapters (supplied) happened to match up so it was almost idiot-proof. The only hard part was deciding whether to use crimp connectors or solder wires together. I chose to solder and cover with shrink tubing.

Pros: Easy to install with Crutchfield's instructions and adapters. Easy to use, if you read the manual. Sounds awesome even with factory speakers.

    Cons: No MP4 support

This headunit is beautiful. It's great for the money. It does everything that I wanted it to do such as charge and control my ipod. The remote works well. You do not have to point it directly at the unit, so thats what made it nice. The sound quality is excellent. Dont see the reason to spend more money on the exact same thing. Dont let the low price steer you away because it is definately a quality headunit made by Pioneer. When has Pioneer ever let us down?

Whatever good this unit has, it is forgotten by how difficult it is to program it. Take time to sit down and test it. be patient. Don't think that you could do this on the road. Many times the controls wound not do what the manual said. Apart form that, it works as expected....I replaced the original Ford radio/cd/tape player because it would not play MP3s.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I find that the FM & lower quality streaming has what I think of as that horrible digital overprocessed sound. Unfortunately, FM is what I listen to a lot. My stock radio was more palatable in that sense. CD's sound good. The buttons are well thought out and easy to use. The volume knob is cumbersome in that it is too smooth to spin with one finger and doesn't stick out very far. All in all, its a good value given the USB and Aux input, but not everything I was hoping for. I'd shop around more next time, but generally like Pioneer.

Pros: Display, easy install, lots of features

Cons: Distorted sound if the input is not high quality. Volume knob slippery.

This much for the stereo, mounting brackets, antenna adapter? Phenomenal value. What this unit did for my girlfriends boring old Saturn? It revolutionized the car. 1992 Toyota 4Runner
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

(Installed in '92 4Runner) It does everything that I wanted to at the price I was looking for. Installation was easy, the instructions that came with were very good. All of the colors of the wires matched up perfectly with my cars factory harness, installation went fairly quick. Plenty of options to customize the sound, so far so good. The one thing that I do not like, is that whenever you perform any action, and while a cd is playing, or the radio, or whatever, unless you put the display to the clock there is this, like, blinking light thing that goes clockwise around the display. I don't really need any animations on my deck, ya know? It is no big deal, for me, I just put it on clock and forget about it, but I think it could be kind of annoying. Tuner works fine, cds sound great, aux seems okay but haven't really tried it too much. I am not a huge fan of rotary volume dials but it just takes a bit of getting used to I guess. Overall, I am for sure happy with the purchase. I needed something fairly cheap, I have always liked Pioneer, and it is a huge upgrade from a ten year old Alpine that wouldn't even play burned cd's anymore.

Pros: Good deal, sounds good, easy installation with Master Sheet, all parts/harnesses included, many EQ options

Cons: Weird blinking light animation going around the display.

    Good bang for the buck!

Installed in less than 2 hrs. (including wiring the harness to the deck). The directions from Crutchfield were spot on, made it much easier as this was my first car stereo install. Deck itself works well. The USB port is the main reason I bought this unit, very convenient.

Pros: USB port and aux. plug in one unit. Price. Ipod display when run through USB.

Cons: I have an older Ipod so it has to be controlled through the deck, not the Ipod itself.

Auxiliary Input: The DEH-2400UB is equipped with a front-panel 3.5mm stereo minijack auxiliary input for connecting external components, such as a portable MP3 player. AUX must be turned on in the setup menu in order to be selected as a source.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Pioneer in-dash head unit utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior CD sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The DEH-2400UB is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the DEH-2400UB are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the DEH-2400UB are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (or 50 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms + 70 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms for subwoofer)

3-Way Rotary Commander: The Pioneer DEH-2400UB features a 3-Way Rotary Commander for easy control. You can scroll through your music and audio settings with greater ease using the 3-way rotary commander.

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. Hear the detail, warmth, and clarity, the way the artist intended it, from all of your highly compressed MP3 and WMA files stored on your USB device, iPod/iPhone, and portable media players. By restoring data (especially higher frequencies) that tends to get lost in the digital compression process, Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever technology enhances audio reproduction nearly all the way up to 20 kHz frequencies

EEQ (Easy EQ): The DEH-2400UB is equipped with a 3-band EQ with 6 preset EQ settings: Powerful, Dynamic, Vocal, Natural, Custom, and EQ Flat. The Custom band can be adjusted as follows:

    • Bass: +/- 6dB at 100 Hz
    • Mid: +/- 6dB at 1 kHz
    • Treble: +/- 6dB at 10 kHz

Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness feature to Low, Mid, High, or Off.

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

2.0-Volt Preamp Output: The Pioneer DEH-2400UB features one pair of 2.0-volt preamp outputs. The unit's preamp output can be configured as a fading rear-channel output or a non-fading subwoofer output with a low-pass filter, phase adjustment, and output level control. When configured as the subwoofer output, you can select the frequency of the 18dB/octave low pass filter (50, 63, 80, 100, or 125 Hz), select the subwoofer phase (normal/reverse), and the subwoofer gain (+6 to -24).

Switchable Rear Channel/Subwoofer Speaker Output: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

    Radio Functions

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.

BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.

Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 level of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

    Display Features

Detachable Face Security: The Pioneer DEH-2400UB in-dash CD receiver features Detachable Face Security. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Note: No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.

LCD Display: The DEH-2400UB features a black background with a one-line, 10-character white LCD display.

Ever Scroll: When the Ever Scroll feature is set to On, recorded text information scrolls continuously on the display. It will auto-scroll up to 64 characters. Set this feature to Off if you prefer the information to scroll only once.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the Source button turns off audio output, but the clock display remains on. When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the source button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display by pressing the clock button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On you can select between the clock display or the audio track/tuner display.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The DEH-2400UB comes with an IR wireless remote control. The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause the CD, change the display, and adjust the audio. The mute button allows you to quickly lower the volume by about 90% (function that cannot be performed from the front panel).
