Customizable 7" display

Customize the touchscreen by moving icons around to create shortcuts to your favorite sources and apps. And you've got a choice of colors and backgrounds that'll let you tailor the look to match your vehicle. Video content plays in bright, clear detail when you're parked, and when you're on the road, you can entertain your passengers by sending a movie from the receiver to a rear-seat screen. And of course you can plug in a rear-view camera (and a second camera) to play it safe in crowded parking lots.

AppRadio mode and AppRadioLIVE

Pioneer's AppRadio mode and AppRadioLIVE offer some other cool features. Launch and control compatible iPhone apps from the face of your receiver with AppRadio mode. And for more functionality, download the free AppRadioLIVE app to your phone and you can sync many popular apps and services into a single, easy-to-use interface, giving you easy control over maps, media, news, and calendars.

iDatalink Maestro lets you keep your factory extras

This Pioneer offers compatibility you won't find in many other aftermarket radios, thanks to the iDatalink Maestro module (not included). In a wide selection of vehicles, this module lets you keep factory features that you'd otherwise lose when you install a new radio. You'll also be able to check out engine performance data and other vehicle info on the Pioneer's screen. Once you've identified your vehicle, you'll see the iDatalink module offered on the way to the Shopping Cart if it's compatible.

Hi-Res music and more

Crave the best sound quality? You'll be stoked that the AVH-W4400NEX supports FLAC file playback, for compression-free CD-quality sound when you're cruising down the highway. It will even play high-resolution FLAC files, if you have a speaker system that will do them justice. And don't forget, you can also enjoy all your CDs, DVDs, discs full of MP3 or WMA music, SD cards, or USB storage devices loaded with files.

You can connect your iPod® or iPhone to one the receiver's two rear USB inputs and use the receiver's controls to access your playlists, with tools like Alphabet Search and Link Search to help you zero in on the song you want. Android users — you'll be able to browse and play back the music that's stored on many Android phones.

Radio that's more than radio

The built-in HD Radio tuner delivers crystal-clear FM and AM reception from participating stations. If you're a fan of streaming Internet radio, you can take charge of your Pandora® account from the touchscreen, complete with thumbs-up and thumbs-down controls. For an outstanding variety of music, news, sports, and talk programming, you can also connect an optional SiriusXM satellite radio tuner. This NEX receiver will even display album art from the satellite feed.

HD Radio

Customizable sound

You can make the most of your music with this Pioneer's 13-band EQ. Just swipe your finger on the touchscreen to dial in the curve that brings out tones you're looking for. And you'll find digital time alignment, Auto-EQ, and other powerful tools for compensating for your vehicle's acoustics.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Smartphone note: If you're going to use your smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

If you currently use AppRadio Mode, Pioneer has found that it won't work with iOS 11. They're working on an update, so you may want to keep iOS 10 until that fix is available.

Crutchfield proves why I love buying from them once again.

Instructions were helpful in disassembly and reassembly of the dash. The pre-wire option is an excellent way to go and doesn't cost much. Customer service guidance is provided whenever needed.

Pros: I love the pre-wire of the interface controls. Saves me the headache of going through this process myself.

Cons: I'd like to see more instruction on the installation of interfaces like the steering wheel control. The instruction provided by the manufacturer are never as clear as what you provide.

    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Head unit and harness were easy to install. Unit sounds fantastic with my factory set up. Easy to set up with my phone. Clear picture and great functionality. The ability to use CarPlay and Android Auto make me wonder how I ever survived with anything else. Having in dash GPS has been a game changer. The accompanying bezel for my 07 Subaru Outback was a little snug and caused the faceplate to hang up when tilted. A slight filing of the bezel solved the issue.

Pros: In dash GPS, excellent sound, reliable connectivity, wide range of connectable options

Cons: Wireless carplay only works on Google phones

    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I installed the unit myself with support from Crutchfield. Amazing Support, Ive spoken to 5 techs and all are outstanding. Love the appearance and sound quality. 2017 Jeep Patriot with Stock 4 speaker sound system that was very weak. Pleasantly surprised that the added power from this unit actually makes the Stock speakers sound great. Thought i was gonna need to upgrade speakers as well but Im happy. Andriod Auto works seamlessly but 4 stars only because unit is advertised as Wireless AA but not clearly stated that it only works wirelessly with select Google branded phones such as the Pixel and Nexus. Wireless AA is not supported yet with Samsung Galaxy S10, S10+.

Pros: Great Sound Clean install (looks factory) Amazing Support from Crutchfield Andriod Auto (wired) is flawless

Cons: NO support for Wireless Andriod Auto for my phone.

I installed this unit a couple weeks ago in my 2019 Ford Super Duty. Install seemed a little overwhelming at first, but with the harnesses and stuff purchased from Crutchfield the conversion wasn't too bad. The only thing I'm still a bit confused about is the GPS antenna that came with the unit. This unit doesn't have navigation, so the GPS antenna seems useless unless you add the separate navigation component. With that said, I love this unit so far. It does everything I need it to do with endless options. Wireless Apple Carplay works great. Customer service at time of purchase was awesome.

Great stereo, I wanted a higher powered, CarPlay capable stereo, with HD radio and the ability to play CDs. This adds wireless CarPlay (and Android Auto) which is really nice for short drives. The screen looks great, connection to the phone is fact and the level of integration between functions is amazing: If you play a CD and use Waze from the phone, the stereo will reduce CD volume while the Waze app provide directions, then raise volume back automatically after the voice prompt. I expected it would do this for music which was also streamed from the phone, but was pleasantly surprised it integrated so well with the CD player. Radio and iPhone music streaming work the same way. The microphone and noise reduction for phone calls provided is better than the factory, so my phone calls are clearer. The removeable faceplate is nice, as is the included GPS antenna to supplement the phone's tiny antenna for navigation. Sounds great for only a stereo head (no external amps) and four Alpine S series 6 1/2" speakers With the Maestro Datalink module, all factory steering wheel controls are retained, plus adding a few new ones (like Siri) I don't notice any issues with the resistive touchscreen, although it is brand-new

Pros: Better than any factory head, Wireless Carplay!

    Cons: none

Good unit if you have multiple phones and like varied media sources

    2007 Honda CRV LX

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Installed this myself in 2007 Honda CR-V. Crutchfield always keeps me as a customer through superior customer service. Pre-sale, I called to clarify issues around the install, operations, RMS ratings, Car Play, and so on. Worked with Maverick on the phone. Exceptionally good service and very knowledgable. After the order, which arrived quickly and in good shape, I had an issue with the Datalink Maestro. I would suggest that a schematic with all wiring steps overlaid on top of each other in multiple steps is poor design...so it was a bafflement to me. One call resolved that. Again, Crutchfield gets my repeat business based on service. It's stellar. After the install was done, all parts of the system worked flawlessly. Since there's more than one person in the car with a cell, this unit's ability to recognize and connect to multiple phones, then switch with a simple press of an onscreen switch, it's really easy. The JVC unit in may car doesn't have that feature, so it's really helpful. Amp is plenty powerful enough. At least for me...not a license plate rattler. Also love the HD Radio tuner. Built in SDCard slot rocks, USB ports are great, included mic for calls is great. OBD port connector with Datalink gives me excellent data. Oh, and it plays DCVDs/CDs too. One thing I will say: don't overthink things with this unit. I kept going to menus to drill down, but most of what I wanted to do was done the easiest way possible.

Pros: Cruitchfield. Service beyond excellent. Pretty simple install. Screen is nice and large. Backup camera looks great on big screen.

Cons: Datalink (not this unit) has poor instructions. I had to print them myself, so hey, stop trying to save paper. Put each step on it's own page. Unit is not free.

I love this head unit! I used it to upgrade my 2005 sienna with jbl/nav system and its so nice! I am able to play movie to my rear entertainment system then from the RES back to the head unit. Kids live it!

Pros: I can mirror my phone. Have a jump drive and phone plugged in at the same time. I am able to run my rear entertainment system from it. Android auto keeps the GPS, phone and music at an easy touch

Cons: Android auto will not work wirelessly with my Samsung s10+. It's not the radios fault, however I was really looking forward to that feature. Also know that one USB goes to Apple one to android. I just use the apple for my thumb drive then the android USB is always free for my phone.

Purchase was a PITA. This is the first car stereo I have ever purchased and installed myself. Took my time doing it. The issue I have been having, is the unit blacks out at times or resets itself while driving. I wanted this for purposes of CarPlay mainly plus hands free calling. My other vehicles have them. I have emailed, called, etc. no response from tech support with how I can address these issues. I purchased this with the Ready Harness as well as some plastic tools. Oh and the SiriusXM as well, have yet to activate.

    Pros: CarPlay Hands Free Install

Amazing receiver. Paired it with the Alpine KTP-445u in my 2003 Jeep Wrangler, and I love it! I can finally hear the radio at highway speeds. The installation wasn't too bad, as I already had a single-DIN aftermarket radio installed. Just had to do a little trimming of some plastic inside the dash, and then the wiring. I also added a cheap back up camera, which worked great with the Pioneer head unit. The sound quality and the functionality of this radio are great!

Works great. Installed in a 2007 Tahoe, had to break out plastic backing to make it fit but otherwise was easy to install. Micro bypass doesn't work on this model when in motion you have to download v1.01 firmware and do the software bypass but other than that everything works.

Product is ok. Not impressed with the overall interface. This model does not have backup lines for rear view camera. I mainly use this for the CarPlay functionality, and for the price I give it a 4. The Crutchfield support call I had to make while installing was 5 stars though, making it totally worth it. I wish there were more clear instructions, which is reall the main reason for deducting a star. It isn't Critchfiled's fault, I would think that Pioneer would have this kind of thing figured out by now.

The user interface seems to be a little less snappy than the one provided on the Kenwood I installed in the other car (no wireless CarPlay there). Pleased with the purchase so far.

    Pros: Wireless CarPlay. Upgradable firmware.

Cons: User interface can see sluggish at times.

I put this unit in my 2010 370Z Touring edition and it replaced the factory Bose unit. The Bose's voice recognition was nearly worthless and its phone integration was limited to the AUX jack. This Pioneer is quite the step up. The Siri/Appleplay integration is quite a step up and the integration is teriffic. I love that it can read my text messages! I've owned Pioneer products for years and years and they are just rock solid.

Pros: Great iPhone integration and every feature anyone can think of.

Cons: None yet. We shall see.

Large screen is nice. Navigation is easy to learn. Switching between phones is delightful relative to factory stereo. CarPlay really lets you set your phone down. Wireless CarPlay is dreamy. Very nice not to worry about plugging in your phone. Tilt screen really allows you to match the angle of your dash. Without this, my screen would have been quite recessed. Love it. Put it in my wife's car and now I keep looking for an excuse to drive her car...

Pros: Tons of features. Wireless Carplay is nice. Customizable angle of display is valuable. Sound is good. Customizable faceplate lighting matches your factory dash. 2 usb ports both with power.

Cons: Could not get built in USB in center console to connect. Screen does not dim with dash lights at night.

2007 Jeep JKU. Replaced stock unit, Also upgraded speakers. Massive difference. If you're looking at most any double-din the you're already familiar w/ Carplay so I wont critique it, you'll like it. I can't speak to Android. Detachable face plate is key. $250 more for 8400 (fixed face) for built in Nav is superfluous with phone nav apps (waze, google) Turns on rapidly. Rear camera engages quickly. Radio is functional in 10-15sec, Phone links just as quick Mic not catching my voice great (perhaps d/t Jeep cabin noice and cat back muffler) Pretty darn responsive resistive touch screen. Well laid out app buttons so no multi-set access for functions unless needing the menus/settings Switching back and forth from radio to Carplay is quick Multiple equilizer settings (standard options and 2 custom 18 FM/6AM presets, gets HD radio Can download all music to a SD card and leave it inserted to save space on phone With properly formatted Memory stick you can change the startup screen (haven't attempted anything else). I looked at sooo may units, read a million reviews, chat boards, different websites. With the price drop and 2-biggest "wants" (Carplay and wireless) it was a no-brainer decision for me

Pros: Wireless CarPlay. Detachable faceplate. Multiple input sources, HDMI, SD, USB x 2,

Cons: Mic not too sensitive BUT may be not be the component's fault

Very nice unit that replaced a 6 year old factory radio that had no Bluetooth or aux jack. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the display has smaller icons that make changes to settings while driving a bit harder to do without taking my eyes off the road. Very clear display and great sound. I appreciated the wiring service Crutchfield offers, but you will likely need a micro-bypass to keep from getting the on screen warnings for the parking brake wire and not be able to connect your phone without it.

Pros: Clean look, great sound, nice display

Cons: Parking brake wire needed a micro-bypass added for proper operation.

I have had this stereo for a bit over two weeks and have to say, its been great. Exactly what was expected. I bought it for wireless Carplay and that has been great. The other bonus was easy switching between 2 iPhones. My stock radio was a pain to switch over to another phone. The Pioneer makes it so easy to switch. Two cautions: 1. I used the ReadyHarness service and they got a wire wrong from the iDatalink box. I had to rewire which was a bummer. 2. When you lower the screen, it is easy for the tab that allows you to remove the screen to catch on the dash kit. Test this carefully. It may require light sanding or correction of the dash kit. Other than this, so far so good.

Pros: Wireless Carplay Easily Switch between multiple iPhones Great menu system and customization Looks great as a stock unit upgrade

Cons: Screen eject slide switch can stick on dash kit

Have loved this unit in the week we've had it installed. Sounds great and offers many options to adjust sound...great for many audiophiles. Tons of inputs and options for wiring up. Screen seems responsive and can get very bright. However, strangely enough, when adjusting to the very darkest screen settings, it still seems to bright for night driving. Coming from a Kenwood, the UI seemed a little too 2015 and seemed overly simplified, but I quickly got used to it and my wife (who's car it's in) loves it's simplicity. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto both have been great, although Wireless Android Auto ONLY currently applies to Google phones and those with Android Pie 9.0 phones. Supposedly the Samsung S line will work once upgraded to 9.0 but for now most Android phones are still tethered. FM radio sounds relatively clear and the tuner works nicely. Haven't yet had any crashes or freezes yet (knock on wood) and it was a solid performer for a 6 hour road trip this last weekend. We thoroughly tested both CarPlay and Android Auto and it had few, if any hiccups. I was formerly a pretty big Kenwood guy when it comes to car audio, but they still have a way to go on prices of the wireless CarPlay and wireless Android Auto offerings. Lets be honest...this is really where ALL car audio is going now. It's an absolutely crucial market to get into for the right price.

Pros: Apple CarPlay wireless works great, Very quick to connect, responsive screen, clean FM signals, not very laggy, works well with Metra Axxess ASWC-1,

Cons: Wireless Android Auto ONLY currently applies to Google phones, Pandora and Amazon music cover art doesn't show via Android Auto, Darkest setting is still too bright for night driving,

Love this receiver. Glad I didn't spring the extra $300 for the 8400NEX. The display works well, even though it is not a capacitive touch. I was considering the navigation features of the 8400, but with Android Auto and Waze, I believe I am much happier than I would have been had I spent an extra $300. Plays DVDs well, and displays album art from my SD card files. Huge upgrade from the factory head unit... even with stock speakers. I use Android Auto via USB with my S8+, but this was my first experience with it... had some minor hiccups, but nothing that was due to the receiver. Seems to me based on my limited research that AA suffers software related issues from time to time, but that theses issues are normally "fixed" when Google decides to update all of the moving parts (AA, Google Play, Google Assistant, etc.) However, with so many different components that need to function correctly for stable AA, there always seems to be someone with something not working right. Updated to the latest firmware and the AVIC bypass works on this receiver. I hooked everything up: GPS, speed input, and brake input. AVIC bypass works even with these connected, no problems at all. Love the fact that I can detach the face when I travel out of town and have to park at the airport. Would definitely recommend this unit.

Pros: Android Auto integration works well AVIC bypass works Removable Faceplate

Cons: Factory Bluetooth Phone Controls not working when using Android Auto. This is not an issue with the radio... works fine when not using AA. I expect this to be resolved by Google with a software fix at some point, but who knows. Touch Screen still works to make calls when in AA.

I installed this unit into a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 with Infinity Amp. I used the Metra 70-6502 wiring harness which maintained all the features of the factory amp and 7-speaker system. Sound is greatly improved over the stock system. I installed a tailgate latch camera at the same time. Backup grid lines are displayed on the screen. Here are a few tips: 1. The wireless Android Auto app will only work with Google phones and phones have an Android 9P operating system. For the most part, that leaves out most Samsung phones a couples years old and older. 2. The USB wired Android Auto app works great. However, I tried a couple of mini-USB to USB cords before I found one that works. The unit seems very finicky about the cord resistance. The PAC USB extension I used did not work when plugged into the back of the unit. I had use the included cord. Bottom line, if Android Auto won't connect with a wired connection, try a different cord. 3. Make sure you update the head unit from Version 1.00 to Version 1.01. doing so will allow all current features including the option of bypassing the video-in-motion cut-off for applications not governed by statutes prohibiting this feature. I tested this feature without the use of a bypass micro-switch sold separately. Overall, I'm very happy with Crutchfield's high level of customer support.

Pros: Quick screen response. Great sound over stock unit.

Cons: Finicky wired Android Auto connection.

I opted for this model primarily for the Apple CarPlay. It works great- fast, seamless, and easy. The touchscreen is much faster and more responsive than I had anticipated. Basically it does everything it's supposed to do and it does it well. I added the Accele RVCLPMBS backup camera and the Sirius tuner. Both integrate seamlessly. As satisfied as I am with the products, I'm even more happy with Crutchfield. I have zero experience in car audio and I was able to tackle the install myself with help from their tech support. They are knowledgable, pleasant, and very helpful. They would even send pictures when I was unsure of some steps. DIY tip- pay the money and have Crutchfield wire your harness. Best $$ you can spend.

Bought this head unit to upgrade my 2013 Jeep JKUR . It really woke up the muddy sounding factory Alpine system by allowing control of the factory amp settings. I wanted to be able to use the factory Uconnect system for phone calls which is only accomplished while NOT connected to the Pioneer via USB. Android auto functions are only accomplished while connected via USB with my older Samsung phone so it's kinda cumbersome to have to disconnect the USB every time you get a phone call. This is more of a problem because Google (Android Auto) wants to be "in control" of everything to include auto connecting the Bluetooth to the Pioneer even when you adjust all the settings within the phone and head unit to not do so. The Crutchfield tech and I spent many hours over a couple of days working this issue to no avail even with the input from the iDatalink Maestro peeps. Other than the connectivity/control issues from Google this is a great head unit.

Pros: Control of factory amp settings, auto gauges on screen, screen size

Cons: Nothing with head unit but with Google "big brother"

Crutchfield, big box stores, and countless Google searches... and then, "best CarPlay radio review" and BAM! The number one choice... the 4400! Sold! Done! Stick a fork in me and turn me over! I actually went with a "scratch and dent" model from Crutchfield (saved $150) and I can not see a single blemish that made it so. Happy I saved the money and went with this version of the 4400! A solid FIVE stars all the way!

Pros: Wireless. AppleCarPlay. Sounds so much better than my factory (way louder too). Ability to adjust sound location based upon driver is great. Along with the zones/ speaker locations with a simple red dot and ability to move it!

Cons: Screen resolution could be better. Ability to dim the screen for night driving could be adjusted to go darker than I can get mine to go.

Lots of clean power coming from this deck. Wireless Apple CarPlay is great. This unit is worth the extra money over the 1440NEX if you can afford it.

The AVH-W4400NEX has a ton of features, when compared to my previous CarPlay head unit. You get HD radio, bluetooth, DVD/CD, SDcard, AUX in, Display out, etc AND wireless CarPlay/Android Auto (with updated OS). This is a robust head unit, and all I really needed was wireless CarPlay. Install was straight forward with my old harnesses, but I did have to use process of elimination in identifying reverse trigger for backup cam as colors did not match. Also, when installing in my 2011 Silverado, I had to use my dremel and remove some of the plastic housing in the dash's inner cavity to get this beast to fit. So, despite this radio being labeled as compatible with the 2011 Silverado be prepared to do some minor modding to the internal housing. I also noticed the screen had difficulty properly opening and closing due to the proximity of the trim piece, so I had to make some positional adjustments. Once everything was good to go I got to actually play with this thing. I love the customization of themes and button colors. I'm working on trying to match the head units buttons with the stock green/teal of the truck's dash. Also, you can change the startup splash screen with custom jpegs, which will eventually be the Chevy logo. I would like dedicated skip/back buttons, like I do with volume. And no, the screen does not superimpose guidelines when backing up, but is it really worth knocking multiple stars for that? Let's stop over-reacting.

Pros: Features, features, features! Wireless CarPlay/Android Auto is amazing, customization is a nice touch

Cons: Pioneer's directions were a little lacking, no physical skip and back buttons, increased phone data now that CarPlay starts up automatically /s.

I absolutely love this unit, the wireless carplay is an excellent feature and will be mandatory in any future units I purchase. The menus were intuitive and very responsive. The screen was hard to see in direct sunlight but that is asking for for a lot with the tilt angle in a 2008 Prius. In my Gen II Prius I had to use a Axxess aswc-1 for Steering wheel controls the Radio Pro 4 would not communicate with the Pioneer head unit. All the steering wheel buttons worked when programmed manually except Map. Yes even the Speak button worked for Siri.

Do not buy this if what you want is a display for a backup camera. Despite supporting the feature in older units, Pioneer inexplicably removed the backup camera parking assist lines, which overlay the camera view and show you where you're supposed to aim to line up with the curb. It's the simplest, most useful feature, and also trivially easy for them to implement in software, and they laid an egg and took it out of their new products. Just unbelievable. Given that it takes many, many hours to install these, not finding out about this until it's in the car makes pulling it out and asking for a refund impractical. Pioneer really deserves minus 5 stars for this blunder. So disappointed.

Pros: Impress your friends that you have hundreds of $ to blow on a bad camera monitor

    Cons: No backup camera lines!

Installed in a 2007 Toyota Prius that had the amplified factory JBL system. The Pioneer unit effortlessly and wirelessly connects to my iPhone and implements Apple Car Play. It is so easy to set up. Steering wheel controls work including voice button for hailing Siri which is great for hands-free. Voice quality with the included microphone is very good. Set the volume up on your factory radio to about 2/3's of max before removing it. That will wind up your amplifier (which is under the passenger seat,) power. No need to touch the amplifier. I don't recommend using this radio with the PAC RP4.2 adaptor. Audio dropped in and out with that kit. The two Axxess adaptors seem to work well. I also recommend Crutchfield's Ready Harness service. Makes installation much easier. Fidelity using optional SiriusXM tuner seems better than the factory radio in my other car. Crutchfield's customer service and technical support were outstanding.

Pros: Wireless connectivity and more features than you could possibly use.

Cons: You'll have to search for a couple color-coded wires and then tap into them with PosiTap connectors. Additionally, you will need to solder a resistor between two other wires to keep the steering wheel A/C controls working. You will likely want to drill two holes. One to route the microphone lead and the other for the GPS antenna.

I was very concerned since this unit seems to have all kinds of bells and whistles. I thought maybe it would be difficult to setup and operate. So far I'm very happy to report, it have a user friendly intuitive operation. I even did the install myself. Even with a billion connections and options to hook-up, I managed to get it all working. One note for Subaru owners with Starlink. You'll need to keep your Starlink unit hooked up. The front speakers go through this unit. if you bypass them, you'll loose you backup warning system.

Pros: Wireless car play Intuitive user friendly operation

Cons: User manual was not very helpful for some items. Had to figure out what to do by trial and error.

This is a really nice unit. Replaced my factory BOSE/NAV system in my Nissan Rogue and its a world of difference (in literally every aspect). The boot up time is fast, its intuitive, sound quality is great, WIRELESS CARPLAY IS AWESOME! and everything else works as designed. I like being able to personalize home screens. The only issues that i had with the install actually had nothing to do with the radio (ASWC-1 and integrating my factory backup camera which ended up being a voltage step down control issue). Navigation on car play is spot in with the included VSS and GPS antenna. In fact, all you need as a NAV module and this unit gains full navigation capabilities. We will see how it withstands the test of time but works great thus far!

Pros: Wireless carplay, nav ready, lots of add on functions.

Cons: None so far. I shouldn't be saying this but you can't override in motion feature on this radio to allow video play back for passengers while driving unless you are using a rear monitor. The unit using the parking brake to enable features but also the GPS ans VSS signals. Out of luck there.

I have been enjoying the pioneer AVH-w4400-NEX for about 2 weeks now. Its Menu format is quick to learn and so far no glitches. Must admit though that I straight wired everything and have isolated it from the car functions totally. Even to the extent of using an auxiliary switch for the turn on lead and a chip mod for the brake lead. This allows me uninterrupted function Truck on, driving, or off. With the 10 farad stinger capacitor I have on the power side of things I do not experience the first flicker or issues with power even when turning on the 6.7 diesel Cummins motor. I am only using the RCA outs sending them to an Arc Signature Edition 2300 for Subs and an Arc Signature Edition 4200 for mids. Mids are AP Design 4200 series 6 1/2 Components for Front and Rear with 2 - 10" Sundown E Series Woofers. The set up will run me out of my Ram 3500 Crew Cab well before it shows any signs of clipping or distortion. Definitely very pleased with all of the input options this unit allows as well. I have over 20 gig of music on a thumb drive in USB1 with the Android cell with Spotify, Audible in USB2. I have used CD and DVD as well. Have not hooked up the Android with HDMI yet as I have not picked up the HDMI to USB-C adaptor but cant wait to stream video. Definitely, No bored moments in the Ram now! I must note and strongly suggest starting out with proper soundproofing. I used stinger Expert mat throughout, adding Dynaliner in the Doors. Strongly recommend this Unit!

Pros: Function simplicity, input options, sound quality and DSP functions, and clear image and Screen icon placement options

Cons: closest thing to a con is the Software to link the phone via Bluetooth or USB does take a minute to get used to.

Warning: This receiver and all others with android auto "wireless support" most likely will not work with your phone. Currently Android Auto wireless only works with the Google Pixel and LG Nexus phones. All other phones will NOT connect to this receiver. I found this out the hard way after paying extra for this receiver to have wireless support for my Samsung S8. Crutchfield needs to put this disclaimer on ALL receivers that supposedly support AA wirelessly. I paid extra for this unit because it is one of the only ones that offers wireless connection to both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. When you pay extra for an advertised feature, you expect it to work. Apple CarPlay works great - First try. Android Auto simply does not work at all via wireless connection. If you have an Android phone other than the Pixel or Nexus, you're stuck with a wired connection. Android Auto (wired) is also buggy... If you lose your connection during a drive, you're done. The unit will NOT reconnect to your phone. The only workaround I've found for this problem is to stop the car, completely shut everything down restart everything. That said, the unit sounds 100% better than my factory unit WITH the factory speakers! It really is a very nice upgrade to the sound quality - well done in that department. Phone connectivity via BT is seamless and stable.

Pros: Sounds quality is excellent with seamless bluetooth connectivity Apple CarPlay works well, both wireless and wired Blue Tooth connectivity is solid - works well Detachable face gives peace of mind regarding theft deterrent.

Cons: Android Auto wireless doesn't work with the most popular phones at all. Backup camera function is impaired when using Android Auto - It doesn't always let you see the camera - Another AA bug maybe? Android Auto connectivity is very fragile - if you lose connectivity during driving it will not reconnect. Google assistant often gets stuck on the screen and you have to reboot to fix it - Another AA bug! Functionality of the remote is very limited for podcasts. FF and

Tons of function with wireless CarPlay and android auto. When my wife's factory stereo in her Corolla died, I wanted something that was easy to use and helped her keep her eyes on the road. My wife enjoys being able to respond to messages and make calls without having to fumble for her phone at stops. Picture quality is decent, even in direct sunlight. The touch screen is acurate. I like that she can remove the screen and tuck it safely away when parking in less secure areas. The unit has all the function we needed and then some.

Pros: -Still has CD drive. -Image quality is ok. -Boot time is pretty fast. -Adjust volume of navigation vs music! -Removable faceplate. -HD radio built in. -Wireless carplay/ android auto*

Cons: *Wireless android auto not available on all phones. My Galaxy S8 must connect via usb. -Not HD display -Tilt only tilts back (only an issue in some cars or for short people)

Very nice radio, a lot of nice features. I installed this in a 2012 camaro with the PAC audio kit and while the screen fits, you cannot use the motorized screen. You can customize a lot of things like theme, illumination color, splash screen and background to name a few. If you plan on installing a radio in the camaro, you might want to look into another radio however because of the screen size but also because it's so extremely tight in the dash. But seems to be a good radio otherwise.

Pros: Big screen, wireless CarPlay, customization

Cons: Not the greatest fit for a 5th gen camaro.

This is a great head unit! I had originally bought the JVC KW M740BT and was pretty disatisfied with it. Problems with bluetooth, wired Android Auto. I was a little uneasy about wireless AA after having issues with the wired version, but so far it's performed great! I've had a couple times the unit has gotten hung up when I didn't give it quite enough boot up time and would go to make a call with Google and the wavey multi colored dots would get stuck on the screen so I would have to reboot the unit. No big deal, just need to not get in a hurry. AA stopped once the other day while using maps to navigate, but reconnected and quickly got me back on course. Again, no bigee at all. I really do like this unit. Very reliable, and lots of nice features! Big improvement over the OEM head unit! Sound quality is far better even with the stock cheapie speakers on my 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek Limited. Would HIGHLY recommend! OH, I would definitely be remiss if I didn't say that the folks at Crutchfield are TOP NOTCH! Everyone I have dealt with there has been helpful beyond expectations! Final note (really, this will be it), I've seen some reviews mentioning problems with the install, spend the few extra bucks for the ready harness, then plan on calling to get some help from Crutchfield, they're on the line fast and unbelievably helpful. Don't bang your head against the wall. Just call 'em!

Pros: Great sound, lots of features, reliable bluetooth/android auto connection, awesome customer service!

Cons: Not really any cons. I don't have any issue with having to wait a few seconds for boot up (seriously.... if I'm in THAT big of a hurry I've got bigger problems).

The radio seems good, or at least for what I could see of it. When you add the radio Crutchfield says "hey here's all the stuff you'll need," which in the case of my WRX STI was: Metra 40-LX11 Antenna Adapter iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR Interface Module iDatalink HRN-RR-SU2 Interface Harness and a Dash kit (I chose Scosche) They also send you a "master" sheet, which seems to stretch the meaning of the word master. It tells you next to nothing about your car install, and only shows you how to get the factory radio out, which is pretty easy to Google. What isn't easy to Google is that what Crutchfield recommended above is not all that is required. I soldered the two harnesses together which was easy, and tore up the dash which was a pain (Subaru's fault). After getting everything wired up, before trying to install it, I fired it up. No front audio. After some Googling it looks like you need to Telematics unit to keep the front speakers working, or you only get rear speakers. The box is big and I have no idea how I'm expected to get this to fit. It alternatively looks like you can jump the wires, but that information was not easily available, and certainly not provided in any installation instructs by Pioneer/iDatalink or Crutchfield. Additionally, my rear camera wasn't working. I didn't get as far as getting to run or even test the microphone because I was several hours deep at this point and need to work in the morning. I ended up ha

Unit intermittently fails to connect (wired) to my Android S7, as well as my wife's Iphone. Never has worked wirelessly. Now, it won't connect to my S7 at all using android auto, and intermittently just loses the usb connection on the Iphone. It sometimes tries to connect wifi, and then asks for a wifi password. I have no idea what the password for the unit's wifi is,and Pioneer couldn't help. I'm attempting to return the unit.

Impressive performance, and large feature list. Wireless CarPlay is very convienient, and makes my 1993 Corvette feel like a newer car. Worst part of the install was having to take stuff apart to route the harness...the car originally had a Delco-Bose system, and the harness Crutchfield provided with the stereo allowed the installation of the stereo, while retaining the original Bose amp/speakers.

Pros: Wireless CarPlay, exceptional sound, more sound adjustments than you can imagine.

Cons: Had to trim about 1/8 at the bottom of my dash plate (1993 Corvette) to allow the faceplate to move properly Faceplate moves FAR when inserting a CD, or removing the faceplate. Make sure you have room. Can't be done in my Corvette If gear selector is in Park, but it's fine everywhere else.

I bought this specifically for the wireless interface. I know the WiFi connection works as I can do screen mirroring with it. Unfortunately, screen mirroring is disconnected as soon as you start driving. I've tried with my tablet and cell phone to make the wireless link and after many tries, I always get, "Connection Failed" from either Android 7 device. The link using the USB port works sometimes and not other times. I cannot keep pulling over and stopping to restart that connection. I had no such problem with my 4100NEX. It always worked smoothly and consistently. Summary, the mirrorlink just does not work for either my Android 7 cell phone or tablet. This is what I require for driving long distances. So now, the NEX is only useful for radio when I am parked.

Checked every box I was looking for. Dual zone/multimedia/2 USB ports + SD card/ hdmi input/ IR remote included/ OEM XM retention/ wireless CarPlay. The alpine with wireless CarPlay, around the same price point, lacks multimedia capabilities, usb is just for charging or CarPlay/Android, close competitor but not nearly as feature rich as this pioneer. UI and screen are smooth and responsive. Sound is great. I installed this in a 2012 GMC Acadia Denali with Bose. Crutchfield has this unit listed as will not fit/work due to the tilting face. Zero issues with the install or the tilting face using Crutchfields recommended package and the idatalink. The USB 3 cables stuck out a bit too far in the back, 90 degrees angle adapters solved that issue. Has played every video file format I've thrown at it flawlessly, not sure max USB size, been using a usb3 128GB. Very happy! Wireless CarPlay is a home run, zero connection issues thus far (iPhone X), boots quickly, also switches from AirPods immediately after startup and vice versa when shut down. Installed microphone on the lower side of center console so I didn't have to remove pillar cover, picks up voice perfectly and I'm the only one who can see it. Buy with the confidence you're getting about every feature you could want. Nice job Pioneer.

Pros: Countless features, tremendous value at this price pint, fairly certain I wouldn't be any more satisfied with any of the more expensive units.

Cons: Wasn't free, but worth every penny.

I initially bought the alpine ilx-107 before this unit became capable of wireless carplay but then it was stolen and i purchased this as a replacement. I couldnt be happier with the deck. I have it running a five channel amp and it does a great job. The included features far exceed the 107 and the overall performance is just as good in every other aspect. I think that it is also faster in locking onto my phone and having wireless carplay availible when first getting into the car than the 107. Overall its a great deck!

Pioneer has improved the user interface from their older CarPlay decks. It goes into CarPlay mode by default when an iPhone is connected (and if it doesn't, it's one tap to get there). The process used to be a lot less obvious. The resistive touch screen works well and glare isn't much of a problem once you get the angle right, although fingerprints show up clearly. Wireless CarPlay works well, although note that the phone won't automatically connect if it's already connected to another WiFi network. The only major problem is that the USB ports don't provide enough power to actually charge an iPhone. On long drives it'll probably be necessary to plug the phone into a better power source and use the wireless support. The volume control could be better executed. I'd give up a bit of screen size to have a knob instead of tiny buttons. And it would be nice to have a physical pause button. The display tilts out to allow the face plate to be detached. This is a little time consuming but it means that you can detach the face plate even when the stereo is deeply recessed into an angled dashboard.

Pros: CarPlay works well. Easier to use than older Pioneer CarPlay decks.

Cons: I miss my volume knob. Doesn't provide enough power to charge a phone.

So far this head unit is okay. Either Apple Car Play is buggy or the head unit is at times. Wireless Apple Car Play is nice but a little confusing to figure out. For example, Pandora and Maps will not work simultaneously. Still haven't set up the reverse camera and steering wheel controls. However, the head unit is a huge upgrade from my factory unit.

Great Stereo! It sounds great and is very responsive. I love how they improved the EQ. It doesn't take nearly as long for the sound to reflect whatever changes I make. My last two Pioneer decks would cut out the sound for about a second with each adjustment I made. It was very annoying. Pioneer has definitely fixed that problem with the AVH-W4400NEX. I didn't really care about the Android integration, until I used it. It is awesome! I can listen to the music on my usb drive, or on a cd/dvd, and still be able to hear the GPS navigation. Previously, I had to pair my phone with the deck, then had to be on the Bluetooth source to hear the directions. I couldn't listen to any other source. The only things that I've found that I don't like, but they aren't deal breakers for me, are that I can't seem to get the unit to connect to my Android phone via wifi, so I have to plug it into the USB port to use the Android features, and I miss having the skip forward and reverse buttons on the front of the deck. Now, you have to push a specific button on the front, then a little window pops up with the forward and back controls. I use my steering wheel controls, so it's not that big of a deal, but I still miss the buttons on the unit. Also, the little window that pops up with the controls on it isn't very fancy. It doesn't really fit with the looks of everything else on the unit. On that note, the display looks great. I am very happy with this unit.

Pros: Very responsive to commands. EQ is very responsive. Sounds great. Looks great. Android/iPhone integration. 2 USB ports (one for iPhone and one for Android, but either one will play music from a USB drive).

Cons: Can't get the deck to connect to my phone via wifi. I have to plug it in via USB each time I use it. If you don't have steering wheel controls, you have to do an extra step to get to the forward and back controls. When playing music via USB, and you have several different artists/albums on the drive, the deck alphabetizes every song on the drive and plays them in that order. I would prefer it to default to artist and to play the songs in order according to each album, like most other decks.

Installed in 2012 Honda Crosstour. I used the Advanced ReadyHarness Service and only had to find 3 wires. The steering wheel control said to tap in to number 3 and with help from Oakley at Crutchfield it turned out to be number 13. We also had to program the dip switches; Oakley was very helpful and patient. The wireless carplay is why I bought this unit. It works as expected and my wife loves it. It beats Honda Handsfreelink hands down. I have done multiple stereo replacements in family vehicles, but at 64 the ReadyHarness Service made it much easier.

Pioneer has knocked it out of the park with this unit. Bought a new car and thought it'd be a good time to upgrade my AppRadio 4. Totally worth it. I was a bit nervous about changing over to a resistive panel, but this screen is extremely responsive. The panel in this has a wider color gamut than my previous headunit, too, so it makes watching videos during my long day as a homecare nurse even better. Wireless CarPlay is a godsend. HD Radio is amazing. This thing has any feature you could ask for. The value for the money, especially with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, is excellent. I purchased this item to replace the Kenwood DDX9903S HU I had for 2 years in my 2014 Toyota Tundra. I liked the Kenwood, but I hated that I had to touch the screen on EVERY startup to cancel a "don't look at the screen while driving" warning. The AVH-W4400NEX has the same warning, but it disappears after about 10 seconds. It was worth the money to me to get rid of that screen on the Kenwood. The AVH-W4400NEX also has auto EQ and TA, that I haven't setup yet, but hopefully it will work to my expectations. The AVH-W4400NEX also has WIRELESS Carplay, with the Kenwood, I had to plug the phone in to make Carplay work..I removed and reflashed my Maestro RR, reset some of my steering wheel buttons, and everything works great. I've been buying Pioneer products since my first TP-900 under dash 8-track in 1978.I should have bought the Pioneer in the first place, but local shop recommended the Kenwood. The Pioneer makes better use of the screen. Since I use navigation on my iPhone, there was no need to spend more on a HU with navigation. This unit has everything I need.

Pros: Wireless Carplay, Auto EQ and TA, self canceling warning screen on start up.

Don't buy this unit for a convertible. It does have unbelievable features but if water gets on the face-its doomed. I'm replacing mine now with an Alpine that was build to survive a rain event.

Great features, great response and fast syncing of my iPhone through Carplay. Front camera option is nice, especially for lowered vehicles so you don't damage the bumper. Plus I can get closer without sticking out too far.

I recently purchased this from Crutchfield. I had the AVH-4200NEX previously. I didnt think that it could be beat, but I believe this one slightly does. The biggest reason I upgraded was because of the wireless option for Apple CarPlay. It works great, starts up very fast unlike bluetooth connection that seems to take more than 30-40 seconds. This takes I would say about 3-5 seconds. I did however have a few issues connecting wirelessly only when I remote start and am not near the car with my phone. I have to manually press the CarPlay icon. No big deal just thought might mention. The 4200 was one of the best decks and highest reviewed at its time, the AVH-W4400 just adds to these great features. IMO, this deck is very tough to beat and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new stereo.

Pros: Wireless CarPlay, works near flawless Can add on other accessories Good screen resolution Very easy interface

    Cons: Higher priced

The Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX is a perfect fit for my Mustang! CarPlay added so many awesome iPhone features and controls. The install process was less than favorable, as the Advanced ReadyHarness Service wasn't as ready as one would expect and led to removing the newly installed unit and re-installing the OEM unit, very time consuming! Clint at techsupport@Crutchfield was very helpful with explaining how to finish the not so ReadyHarness so it would work. The Antenna Adapter wasn't shipped with the order but was shipped days later, putting off the install process. The Maestro ADS-MRR Interface Module brought back almost all the controls from the steering wheel and climate control system and the Connec KIT-MUS1 was an exact match to the OEM dash panel. After many hours of install and reinstalling the final product was well worth the extra effort! The sound quality and control is so much better than the original system! The products I'd rate as a 5 Star product, the lack of step-by-step install instructions I'd say about a 3 Star. Tech support was a 5 star, for as expensive of a product, you do get your monies worth from tech support!

Pros: Great sound and CarPlay features

Cons: Installation instructions lacking, Advanced ReadyHarness Service not worth it.

No issues installing in my 2009 GMC Sierra. Still learning what everything does, but so far pleased with this head unit. Sounds a lot better than the one it's replacing, and Android auto is pretty neat. Can't wait for my phone to support wireless AA. Lots of features, but the screen is a little hard to see in bright sunlight.

Amazing amount of features. Android Auto and CarPlay!? Best of both worlds. With Crutchfield's simple instructions and guide to everything you need to install it yourself, it was a wondering DIY weekend project. Installed in a 2009 Subaru Legacy. Made my car 10 years newer! One thing that will help with the Android fans out there. The USB2 port is the only port that works for setting up your Android device. USB1 is reserved for iPhone's setup.

    Pros: Android Auto and Carplay

Cons: Pioneer's built in menus are a little out-dated and clunky but when you're basically using it for AndroidAuto or Carplay that doesn't really matter.

Built-In WiFi: The Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX features built-in WiFi wireless connectivity specifically designed to support a cable free connection between your Apple iPhone or Android smartphone and the receiver. Supporting both Android Auto Wireless and Apple CarPlay via a wireless connection, plus WiFi Certified Miracast wireless mirroring for older Android smartphone devices, you no longer need to worry about taking your smartphone out of your bag or your pocket before you get into your car.

Note: The unit's built-in WiFi can only be used for Android Auto, CarPlay, and Miracast (not designed to be used with WiFi hotspots).

Wireless Apple CarPlay: The Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX features Apple CarPlay, the smarter and safer way to use your iPhone 5 or newer (iOS 7.1+) in the car. The Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX supports Apple CarPlay through a wireless connection using WiFi and Bluetooth (both connections must be made) or a hardwired USB connection using its rear-panel USB-1 port. Apple CarPlay gives iPhone users an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, use Maps, listen to music, and access messages through Siri voice control and the Pioneer receiver's touchscreen controls.

    • Maps: Apple CarPlay brings the power and simplicity of Apple Maps to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars. You can even listen to music from your Apple CarPlay device or other connected source device while using Apple Maps.
    • Phone & Messages: Via Apple CarPlay, you'll be able to make calls, return missed calls, and listen to voicemails through the Pioneer head receiver. Siri can also help you do all these things. In addition, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages for you; so you never have to look at your iPhone while driving.
    • Music Library: Through Apple CarPlay, you can access your artists, song, playlists, and iTunes Radio on your iPhone using the Pioneer head unit's touchscreen. Or, just tell Siri what you'd like to listen to. The head unit's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background.
    • Apps: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying music, radio, sports, news, podcasts, & audiobooks. Control them from the head unit's touchscreen just like you would from your iPhone. Apple continues to add more apps to CarPlay. Current supported apps include (fees may apply) -

    Notes:

    • Before using CarPlay, you will need to pair your iPhone to the receiver via Bluetooth and connect the phone to the receiver via a USB cable, or press and hold the "mic" button on the front-panel of the receiver, to make a WiFi connection between the receiver and your iPhone - follow the receiver's on-screen prompts.
    • If you are using a hardwired connection, make sure to plug your phone into the USB-1 port.
    • Use the included USB extension cable and an "Apple Certified" Lightning-to-USB extension cable (not included) for connection. Any other USB extension cable or non-certified cable can cause CarPlay to malfunction.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.

Android Auto Wireless: The Pioneer receiver supports the Android Auto app for select Android smartphones using a wired or wireless connection. You can connect Google's Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3XL, Nexus 6P, and Nexus 5X (running Android OS 8.0 Oreo or higher and version 3.1 or higher of the Android Auto app) to the Pioneer receiver wirelessly using WiFi and Bluetooth (both wireless connections must be made; a wired USB connection must be made initially between the Android phone and the Pioneer receiver to setup Wireless Android Auto). Android smartphones running Lollipop 5.0 or higher can be connected to the Pioneer receiver's USB-2 port using the included USB extension cable and USB cable that came with your smartphone, plus be paired via Bluetooth. Android Auto extends the Android platform into your car in a way that's purpose-built for driving and automatically brings you useful information and organizes it into one simple on-screen interface. It's designed to minimize distraction so you can stay focused on the road ahead. Features of Android Auto include -

    • Google Assistant: The Pioneer receiver enhances your Android Auto experience even more by incorporating Google Assistant using the head unit's external microphone and your car speakers for voice command and text-to-speech, which makes using Android Auto and all of its integrated applications fast, easy, and safe. You will need to press the "mic" button or say "OK Google" to activate the Google Assistant. Use the Google Assistant to make call, send a message, reply to a message, get driving directions, or listen to music.
    • Google & Waze Maps: Use Google Maps to get where you're going with on-screen maps, voice-guided navigation, live traffic information, lane guidance, and more. Select your destination by using the head unit's touchscreen or just say where you want to go through the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You can even listen to music from your Android Auto device or other connected source device while using Google Maps. If you prefer, you can switch over to a simpler version of the community-based Waze navigation app (version 4.27 or higher).
    • Phone & SMS: With Android Auto you get access to your contacts and messages through the Pioneer NEX receiver while keeping your eyes on the road. Use the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology to make a phone call, or have your text-messages read aloud to you while you concentrate on the road ahead; you can even reply to texts via voice command.
    • Music: Access your Android smartphone's music library through the Pioneer receiver via Google Play Music. You'll be able to browse music like you do on your smartphone with song/artist information display and album art. Use the receiver's touchscreen to select songs or just say what song you want to listen to through the head unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You also get access to online music and radio stations from Amazon Music, Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Slacker Radio, & Tune-In. Music apps include song and station browsing, plus song/artist information and album art or station logo.

    • If you are using a hardwired connection, make sure to plug your phone into the USB-2 port.
    • Android smartphones with a USB Type-C connector (including the Pixel) may not function without appropriate USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable. Click here for more details.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Android Auto is being used with a connected Android smartphone.
    • Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable other than the one supplied.

AppRadio Mode+ (for iPhone & Android): The Pioneer DVD receiver features AppRadio Mode+ for Apple iPhones (iOS 9.0+) with Lightning connector and select Android (OS 4.4+) smartphones. AppRadio Mode+ gives you the ability to view and control compatible iPhone and Android smartphone apps from the receiver's touchscreen using a one-cable USB connection. You'll need to download Pioneer's AppRadio app (for Apple iOS 7.0+ / Android OS 4.4+) and the AppRadioLive app (Apple iOS 9.0+ / Android OS 4.4+) onto your compatible iPhone or Android smartphone. Once you have downloaded the apps, your compatible iPhone or Android smartphone simply connects to the Pioneer DVD receiver's USB input using the cable that came with your mobile device. Now that the AppRadio and AppRadioLive apps are downloaded, and your compatible Apple iPhone or Android smartphone is connected the DVD receiver, you have access to maps, media, news information, and your events calendar through the receiver's intuitive touchscreen interface.

    • Maps: AppRadio Mode+, along with AppRadioLive use the native maps from your smartphone overlaid with INRIX live traffic data to provide live traffic and incident information to give you an estimated time of arrival at your chosen destination. Once you select your destination, you'll be guided along your route via an on-screen map and audible voice prompts. Selected destinations can also be sent to popular compatible apps like Navmii or Genius Maps. You can even use Yelp to find points of interest along the way, including restaurant ratings and reviews.
    • Media: AppRadio Mode+ and AppRadioLive let you play your stored music library directly from your smartphone through the Pioneer DVD receiver. And, you can access over 60,00 internet radio stations from Radionomy. Or, you can access over 25,000+ radio shows and podcasts from your Stitcher account.
    • Events: In addition, AppRadio One and AppRadioLive keep you up-to-date on the latest news stories, RSS feeds and weather information with Feedly and Open Weather Map. With text-to-speech technology, the Pioneer receiver will even read you the latest news stories from the internet.
    • Calendar: The AppRadio One and AppRadio Live applications also keep your life organized and makes it easier to stay in touch and have fun. With multiple viewing options within its sleek, simple user interface, you can access your smartphone and Facebook calendars in one place, RSVP to Facebook events and use EventSeeker to find nearby concerts and events based on your personal interests and location.
    Notes:
    • Your compatible iPhone will need to be connected to the unit's USB 1 port.
    • Your compatible Android smartphone will need to be connected to the unit's USB 2 port.

Miracast for Android (Wireless Mirroring): Wi-Fi Certified Miracast lets you wirelessly send the display of your compatible Android OS 4.2+ device that also supports Miracast to the Pioneer receiver's touchscreen monitor. This allows you to view practically any content that is playing on your compatible Android device on the receiver's touchscreen (vehicle's parking brake must be engaged). Control will still be done from your Android device's touchscreen (not the Pioneer receiver). Click here to check for Miracast compatible Android smartphones and tablets.

    Notes:
    • Miracast (wireless mirroring) will require that the vehicle's parking brake be engaged to mirror your smartphone or view any content from your smartphone on the Pioneer receiver's touchscreen monitor. Only audio content will be heard without the vehicle's parking brake engaged.
    • The Apple iPhone does not support Miracast or wireless mirroring.

iPod Direct Connect: The Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX's rear-panel USB port can be used to connect your Apple device with Lightning connector to the head unit. You'll need a Lightning-to-USB cable to connect your Apple device with Lightning connector to the head unit's USB-1 port. The USB connection allows for audio playback, music navigation, information display (including album art), and charging of your compatible iPhone or iPod.

    • Audio Control: From the head unit's touchscreen, you can search your iPod/iPhone's audio content by Radio, Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Podcast, Genre, Composer, or Audiobook. Once you have selected a category, you can search each category alphabetically (A-Z). In addition, the head unit offers Link Search, which allows you to play songs related to the currently playing song. Link Search lets the head unit create an album list of the currently playing artist, a song list of the currently playing album, or an album list of the currently playing genre. You can also select Random & Repeat functions for a certain song or specific folder. You'll still be able to control your iPod or iPhone from the device's touchscreen too.
    • Song/Artist/Album Info: In addition, the head unit will display your iPod/iPhone's stored music information including Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song & Album title, as well as Album Art.
Note: The unit will only recognize up to 16,000 songs loaded on an iPod or iPhone.

    Notes:

    • Not compatible with Apple iPod/iPhone devices with a 30-pin connector.
    • Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.

Data Plan Required: Your iPhone or Android smartphone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or LTE (4G) for CarPlay, Android Auto, & AppRadio to function. Access to CarPlay, Android Auto & AppRadio's online app services will depend on the availability of a cellular network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or Android smartphone to connect to the Internet. App services may not be available in all regions.

Smartphone Charging: The head unit's USB connections provide 5V/1.5A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone or Android devices when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. If your mobile device has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

GPS Antenna: The Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX comes with a GPS antenna to enhance the performance of Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Waze navigation maps. The GPS antenna comes with a self-stick pad which mounts it on top of your dash inside the vehicle.

Smartphone Setup: Before connecting your smartphone device, you will need to indicate whether you are using an iPhone or Android smartphone in the Pioneer receiver's menu.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 4.1: The AVH-W4400NEX is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 4.1, allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.3 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.6 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX.

Multi-Device Pairing Dual Phone Connection: Up to 5 Bluetooth-compatible devices (2 phones/1 audio player) can be paired to this head unit. You are even able to keep two Bluetooth-enabled smartphones connected at the same time, so you can switch between phones from the head unit's touchscreen, without having to connect or re-connect devices.

    • SPP (Secure Simple Pairing): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the AVH-W4400NEX without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings.
    • Auto Re-Connection: Once an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically links the head unit and device together. If two Bluetooth devices were connected the last time, the two devices are connected to this unit automatically in the order that they are registered in the device list.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX supports wireless hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. Thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the AVH-W4400NEX provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The AVH-W4400NEX allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the head unit's external microphone and your car audio speakers. During a conversation you can adjust the volume, as well as switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering A Call: During an incoming phone call, the head unit will display the caller's information and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speakers. You can manually answer an incoming call or have the unit automatically answer the call.
    • Making A Call: The AVH-W4400NEX offers a variety of ways to make call using the in-dash receiver.
      • Direct Dialing: You can make a call by entering the phone number using the head unit's touchscreen keypad.
      • Preset Dialing: You can store up to six phone numbers as presets for quicker dialing.
      • Phone Book: The phone book (up to 1,000 contacts) in your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone will be transferred automatically when the phone is paired to this unit. After finding the number you want to call in the phone book from the head unit, you can select the entry and make the call. If a lot of numbers are registered in the phone book, you can search for a phone number by the contact person's name alphabetically.
      • Call History: The 80 most recent calls dialed, received, and missed are stored in memory. You can browse them and call numbers from these lists.
      • Voice Dialing via Siri: When paired and connected with an iPhone 4S or later via Bluetooth, the Pioneer head unit has the ability to access Siri through its touchscreen controls and external microphone. You'll be able to dial a phone number or contact via voice command.
Note: Advanced phone operations that require attention, such as dialing numbers on the touchscreen monitor or adjusting Bluetooth settings, are prohibited while driving. The vehicle's parking brake must be engaged to access these functions.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The head unit can stream music stored on your Bluetooth enabled device or music apps you have downloaded on your device. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call.

    • Advanced Music Navigation: In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the AVH-W4400NEX lets you browse your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, etc.. (AVRCP 1.4 phones only; which includes Android 4.0+ and iPhone 5.0+).
    • Song/Artist Info: The head unit will also display your stored music's and music app's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (app must also support).

Siri Eyes-Free Functionality: When paired and connected to an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth, the Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX has the ability to access Siri through its touchscreen and external microphone for Siri Eyes-Free functionality. When activated, Siri voice prompts play through the vehicle's speakers and the user's commands and questions are received and transmitted to the receiver using the external microphone. Siri Eyes-Free provides access to many iPhone Siri functions such as music selection, making phone calls, and audible navigation (map will be displayed on iPhone); as well as listening to text messages, calendar information, and reminders. The head unit's audio is muted while Siri provides audible voice prompts.

    • Parental Control: The SiriusXM Parental Control feature allows you to control access to channels that you consider inappropriate for younger listeners. When enabled, The Parental Control feature requires you to enter a 4-digit passcode to tune to the locked channels.
Note: A separate SiriusXM Satellite Radio subscription is required (operates on the XM Network). However, you can easily add this SiriusXM tuner to an existing Sirius or XM account for a Multi-Radio Discount Plan.

HD Radio: The Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX's built-in HD Radio tuner lets you listen to the radio with the same fidelity as your digital music. HD Radio features high quality audio, FM multi-casting, and data services. With HD Radio, your FM stations offer near CD-quality sound, AM stations provide FM-like sound, and there is crystal-clear reception with no audio distortion. Best of all, HD Radio is 100% subscription free. The unit's tuner also supports analog AM/FM broadcasts.

    • Supertuner IIID: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.
    • Station Text/Album Art + RDS: AM/FM digital stations can offer text and data such as artist names and song titles. The head unit also supports Album Art from select HD Radio stations. For analog FM stations, the Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as song/artist information when listening to compatible RDS FM stations.
    • Multicasting: In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting it is possible to choose from up to 3 multicast programs (HD1 to HD3, and analog). There are also data programs for each program.
    • Reception Blending: If a digital broadcast reception condition gets poor, this unit automatically switches to the analog broadcast of the same frequency level. If this function is set to "On", the tuner switches between digital broadcast and analog broadcast automatically. If this function is 'Off', reception will be conducted within an analog broadcast.
    • BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest analog or HD stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.
    • Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 levels of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

Note: HD Radio is the system for digital AM and FM broadcasting in the U.S. More than 2,000 radio stations are broadcasting their primary signals in digital HD Radio technology, as a free service. Go to www.hdradio.com to check for HD Radio stations in your area.

    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (or 50 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms + 70 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms for subwoofer)
Note: The power specifications for the AVH-W4400NEX are compliant with the CTA-2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

4V/6CH Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX features three pair of 4.0-volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The unit's front and rear preamp output can be faded (front/rear), while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX lets you adjust the subwoofer preamp output's phase (normal/reverse) and volume (+6 to -24).

Crossovers: The AVH-W4400NEX employs high pass and low pass crossovers to tailor the head unit to your connected speakers.

    • HPF: The head unit's variable 6/12/18db per octave high pass filter only allows frequencies higher than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, or 200Hz) to your front and rear speakers through the unit's speaker-level or line-level outputs.
    • LPF: The subwoofer preamp output features a 6, 12, or 18dB/octave low pass filter so only frequencies lower than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, or 200Hz) are output to your connected subwoofer.

EEQ (Easy EQ) w/ 13-Band Graphic EQ: There are seven stored equalizer curves which you can easily recall at any time. You can choose from - Powerful, Natural, Vocal, Super Bass, Flat, Custom 1, or Custom 2. The Custom 1 and Custom 2 EQ modes allow you to manually adjust the level (+/- 12dB) of each band of the head unit's 13-band graphic equalizer (50, 80, 125, 200, 315, 500, 800, 1.25k, 2k, 3.15k, 5k, 8k, and 12.5k Hz).

Auto EQ (Optional): The auto-equalizer automatically measures your car's interior acoustic characteristics, and then creates an auto-equalizer curve base on that information. The Pioneer CD-MC20 Auto-EQ microphone (130CDMC20, sold separately) is required to use this function. The Pioneer CD-MC20 Auto-EQ microphone plugs into the Pioneer receiver's "Auto EQ Mic" 3.5mm jack located behind the motorized touchscreen monitor. The Auto-EQ microphone should be placed in the center of your vehicle's driver seat headrest facing forward for EQ measurement.

Audio Settings: The head unit provides further sound adjustments for your car audio system.

    • Listening Position & Time Alignment: For a better sound-stage you can select your optimal listening position. You can choose from All, Front Left, Front Right, or Front. You can also select to manually fine tune the sound stage, using Digital Time Alignment (DTA) by selecting the distance (0-200") for each individual speaker in the vehicle compared to your listening position.
    • Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. When the Advanced Sound Retriever is on, the high frequency range is compensated to match the frequency response curve to the original sound. There are two available levels of the Advanced Sound Retriever effect.
    • Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source (AM, Pandora, iPod, Apps) to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the unit's FM volume level, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4 dB to +4 dB.
    • Bass Boost: There is also a Bass Boost level adjustment that be set from 0 to 6.

Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation; this can be turned On or Off.

The head unit has a rear-panel 3.5mm minijack AV input for connecting a portable audio/video device. Note: For safety reasons, video images from the AV inputs cannot be displayed on the receiver's touchscreen monitor without the vehicle's parking brake engaged.

HDMI Input: The Pioneer head unit's HDMI input can be used to connect an iPhone/iPod touch with Lightning connector (using an Apple AV adapter - sold separately), an Android smartphone/tablet (using a MHL adapter - sold separately), Blu-ray player, TV tuner or game system. The HDMI input will provide video and audio playback. Playback functions will need to be controlled from your HDMI-connected device (not the Pioneer head unit).

Note: For safety reasons, video images from the HDMI input cannot be displayed on the receiver's touchscreen monitor without the vehicle's parking brake engaged.

AV Output (w/ Dual Zone): The unit features a composite video jack and 3.5mm audio jack to output AV signals to an optional monitor and headphone system. You can simultaneously enjoy the same or different sources in the front and rear of your vehicle. The unit's dual zone AV output can be set to Mirror, Disc, AV-In, USB-1, SD, or Off. Note: USB and SD cannot be selected for playback in the rear of the vehicle when CarPlay or Android Auto is active.

The receiver's composite AV input can also be configured to add a second camera, such as a front dash cam (sold separately). The dedicated rear-view camera input offers two view modes -

    • Auto View: The unit features a function that automatically switches to the rear camera image. When the vehicle's transmission is put in reverse, the screen automatically switches to the rear view camera (violet/white wire of the harness must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching). Automatic video switching takes approximately 0.8 seconds.
    • Camera View: There is also a Camera View mode which allows you to manually bring up the rearview camera image on the receiver's touchscreen monitor to check what is behind you while driving. You can leave the Camera View mode on if you want to see the rearview image at all times; for instance when towing a trailer.
Note: The rear view camera feature is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

Navigation Ready: The Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX allows you to connect the Pioneer AVIC-U280 add-on navigation unit (130AVIC280, sold separately) through its RGB Input. This versatile hideaway unit allows you to switch to navigation mode with the touch of a button. Get to your destination by inputting an address or search through the POI library while enjoying whatever source is currently playing.

    • Retained Features: The Pioneer DVD receiver lets you retain select factory functions. Retained features will vary by vehicle via the iDatalink Maestro RR. Retained proprietary factory systems can include Ford Sync, GM OnStar, and Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep U-Connect. Other retained factory features may include Steering Wheel Controls, Aux Input, USB Port, Hands-Free Bluetooth, Voice Commands, Satellite Radio, Secondary Display, and more.
    • Extra Features: In some installations, the iDatalink Maestro RR let you configure the Pioneer receiver's touchscreen monitor to operate interior climate controls and provides extra visual data; such as User Selectable Gauges, Vehicle Info (Tire Pressure/Battery Voltage/Check Engine Codes/Door Ajar Warning), and Visual Park Assist. These extra features will vary by vehicle.

Note: The iDatalink Maestro RR is web programmable, which means you'll need to flash the iDatalink Maestro RR interface module with the correct firmware from iDatalink's website. In addition to flashing the iDatalink Maestro RR module, you'll also need a vehicle specific harness (sold separately). The Pioneer receiver's OEM Setup menu must also be configured with your compatible vehicle's factory system before initial operation.

Note: In addition to the touchscreen controls, the unit includes frequently used push-buttons along the bottom edge of the screen.

Detachable Face Security: The Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX's 6.94" touchscreen monitor can be detached from the chassis to deter theft (soft carrying case included). You can also enter a 5 to 16 character password that must be entered if the head unit is disconnected from power.

Variable Color Illumination: You can adjust the color of the on-screen display; choose between red, amber, green, blue or white. The color of the button illumination can be set to red, amber, green, blue, white, or scan (constantly cycling through the color spectrum). You can also create a custom color for the unit's button illumination to match your vehicle's interior lighting (112 colors to choose from).

Dimmer: To prevent the touchscreen display and button illumination from being too bright at night, the illumination is automatically dimmed when the car's headlights are turned on. The automatic dimmer function only works when the orange/white illumination wire in the wiring harness is connected to the vehicle's headlight circuit. You can also turn on or off the dimmer manually. You can even set a timer for the dimmer to turn on or off.

Remote Control: The Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX receiver comes with an IR wireless remote control, plus support for factory steering wheel control (adapter sold separately).

Parking Brake Interlock: This unit has a parking brake interlock system that prohibits viewing of video and operating certain controls when the vehicle is in motion. In order to watch video on the in-dash monitor, the vehicle must be stopped with the parking brake engaged. The head unit's light green wire must be connected to your vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. The head unit's touchscreen will display "Attention! Viewing of front seat video source while driving is strictly prohibited", if you try to watch a video when your vehicle is in motion.

Note: CarPlay, Android Auto, and AppRadio do not require that the parking brake be engaged.

    Q
does this head unit work with aftermarket backup cameras? I have a 2005 Dodge Magnum and I am wanting to install a backup camera, having the video go to the head unit. My car doesn't come factory with the camera.

    Yes, I did that.

Yes it does. My truck has after market cameras front and rear and they work fine. In the last year I've had to install two new ones to replace the old and they all worked fine. My wife's car has a factory camera and the same head unit and it works too. Although it seems to be not as bright a picture as the after market.

I use mine with an aftermarket camera. It was considerably cheaper than the pioneer model, but works just fine.

    Q
Is there an external microphone that is used when placing calls? My concern is that a microphone integral to the unit would not pick up the driver's voice with enough clarity for the calls.

yes, you have to install the mic, included. I put mine on the driver windshield visor, on the left corner, ran the wire through side trim, so it's very unnoticeable. Works amazing and very clear, I had feedback that my voice sounds like I'm in sound proof room.

Microphone is external and it picks up voices with no background noise. Almost a noise cancelling microphone. Have had no issues or feedback from folks I have talked with through the phone system on the radio.

It comes with external microphone as seen on the pictures available on Clutchfield. It would be up to you for optimum placement of the microphone. Good luck.
    [ Seksan  Apr 14, 2019 ]
    A
Yes there's an external microphone mic that you can mount on the visor or somewhere else.
    [ ADAM  Apr 14, 2019 ]

Yes there is an external microphone with a long wire that you can place wherever it is convenient I put mine on the sun visor
    [ Scott  Apr 14, 2019 ]
    A
There is an external microphone that runs out the rear that you mount in the car. It's not a mic on the unit itself. It won't work with your factory mic most likely. The mic works fine and calls and voice commands are clear.

An external mic comes with the unit. I have mine mounted to the sun visor. No issues with people hearing me.

Yes, there is an external mic with a long cord. It sounds very clear and can be hidden in a variet of places.
    [ Terence  Apr 14, 2019 ]

Yes. Like most there is an external mic that your can place wherever is most convenient. It is small and unobtrusive, attached mine in top of the steering wheel cowl - grreat reception and mostly invisible.Enter
    [ michael  Apr 14, 2019 ]

Yes, there is an external microphone that can be installed at a better location.
    [ Emil  Apr 14, 2019 ]

There is a microphone provided that can be mounted in an area of your preference. Mine is installed to the right of the steering wheel adhered to the dash. There is some adjustability so you can adjust the "aim" Mine is held in place with circular Velcro mounting pads. Note that you'll have to conceal the wire if that concerns you. I personally don't care about that little wire, but others may. ( 2006 Prius ) Peace and prosperity?????? ????? ?

Yes, it uses an external microphone with a long wire. I ran mine up the drivers side A-frame and clipped it to the sun visor and still had wire to spare. I don't believe there is an internal microphone on the head unit. I've been told it's clearer than the original mic in the car.
