This is the 3rd Pioneer car head unit I've bought this decade. It seems that each one in some ways is a little worse than the one before it. Honestly, I can't explain why this unit has some of the cons it does. It's like Pioneer was simply too lazy to add some functionality to it. For example, I have a DVD in Joliet format that I made that contains 2 directories - one with everything in WAV format and the other with everything in FLAC format. The WAV directory comes first. My previous Pioneer would play the WAV files and ignore the FLAC. This one refuses to play anything because the FLAC files are there. If you want to stream driving directions, you must put the unit in Bluetooth mode. Not a big deal but I had a Nissan a few years ago whose stock unit could play a CD and driving directions would come on anyway when needed so it is possible to do that.
Pros: Video quality very good. Will play both PAL and NTSC video as long as the source is for region 1 or is region free. VCD and Divx playback worked fine. Note - video playback tested while the car was not in motion but parked in my driveway. Streaming audio quality excellent. This is orders of magnitude better than my stock radio where I had to buy a 3rd party radio transmitter and stream via an unused radio channel. Video camera support very good. No problems to integrate with Si
Cons: Won't play FLAC except via USB. Why? Must have unit in Bluetooth mode to hear driving directions. DTS audio not supported on anything.
