Built for your digital music library
You can control your iPod® by plugging into the high-speed USB input. Once connected, the receiver bypasses your iPod's built-in digital-to-analog converter, using its high-quality DAC to deliver your music files with the improved fidelity. The DEH-P4200UB also features a 2-way mode that allows your passengers to take control of the iPod, so they won't have to bother you while you're driving. You can also plug a thumb drive or another portable player into the USB input.

Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever expands high-frequency data lost when you created your digital files, so all your stored music files will sparkle. You can tweak the sound further to your taste with the Easy EQ 3-band parametric equalizer.

Plenty to listen to
You can listen to your MP3, WMA, and AAC files burned to disc, so you can put together party mixes for your epic road trips. Plus, you can connect almost any audio source to the front auxiliary input. Add a Pioneer HD Radio™ tuner for high-quality sound and extra programming from local participating stations.

Discover the wide range of sports, talk, comedy, and commercial-free music with an optional satellite radio tuner. Make driving safer — you can talk hands-free with a compatible phone by connecting Pioneer's optional Bluetooth® adapter.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use this adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Pioneer stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Pioneer, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

The controls have to be the worst I've ever experienced, and the display switches back and forth between a black background with blue graphics (which is fine) and a blue background with black graphics, with a distracting really bright glare.

    Pros: Good features, sounds good.

Cons: Honestly I hate the controls and the display so much I may have to replace it with something else.

    Awesome Head Unit

    Nick from Georgia on 4/3/2011

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The 7 way knob works well. When you have to push and hold it in for a few seconds to get to a certain menu(which I had to get to for setting it the unit up but most settings require just a simple push in to select) It's very sensitive so trying to hold it in for even 2-3 sec. going 45mph, you got to have a pretty steady hand. Thats my ONLY complaint of the rotary knob. Looks sleek, has a nice click to it. I'd suggest go to a retailer and try it out. It sounds a bit more powerful than your average brand head unit. The Loudness setting is incredible! Really sounds a lot louder and clean. Screen is awesome. Wish the text would actually scroll across the screen instead of showing 2 words for a second then next 2 words..and so on til artist title, radio station, etc. is shown. Maybe havent found that setting...Screen is super bright, you can adjust it though. Really cool feature I found the other day is you can turn the display off while it continues operating. if you press a button or adjust teh volume, screen lights up for maybe 10 seconds then goes back off like your cell phone. Sounds dumb but its pretty cool.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pros: Sound quality and performance are excellent. Cons: The new 7 func btn is the worse design i've seen in pioneer in 20 years. You have to be precise when pushing in on the button otherwise a direction is chosen and other things happen instead. The entertainment display is completely annoying for anyone driving at night. You can select different pictures but it inverts the colors back and forth every minute or so. Volume control is not as easy as previous models Even changing radio stations is problematic If you like to tweak a lot then no unit with the 7 func btn is for you.

Amazing Unit for a bill and a half

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for my 04 sebring convt. and am simply amazed by the sound. There have been a few people complain about the multifunction knob, but I use the remote for everything, so isn't an issue for me. The instalation was a breeze, mainly due to the wiring harness Crutchfield supplied. I litterally just took out 4 screws, removed the factory unit, plugged the new harness into the car(I had wired and connected the harness to the units wireing already) put the Pioneer into the hole, screwd the screws back, replaced the trim and BAM! Still have the factory speakers, which are going bye bye in a few days, and the sound quality is already amazing. I think i will probably have an eargasam when i get the new 6X9's installed.

    Great Reciever

Customs Culture from New York on 2/23/2011

Lets see I have had this unit since it first came out. The unit from a distance just look sleek and almost buttonless which gets a thumbs up from me. Before I fiddled with the options and settings and like most people I didnt read the book (at first)LOL, I was just really impressed by the blue tones (soothing to my eyes), simplicity, and most of all clean performance. Well, I believe I am a novice when it comes to audiophiles although I am into sound quality, but based on the performance of this head unit and the ones I previously owns this is really nice and really worth for the money. It delivers when I need it to and fits my needs when tending to my music files from my Ipod and also it wasn't hard to set up the steering wheel control accessory. The only not to real complaint for me is that since I have alot of songs on the Ipod going through the files on the unit takes some time and stalls sometimes. Thank you for your time.

Pros: Menus are easy to navigate. Pre amp outputs are great with bass adjustments for the subwoofer and the low and high pass filters help the overall sound. Other features listed work great. Cons: To access the menu you have to press the knob in and I often change the song or folder on accident. This also happens when I change the volume. There is also no pause or mute button on the face.

This head unit was pretty much what I was looking for. An inexpensive unit that I can connect my iPod and other digital music players to. For the money, it is a good unit and has all the options that I was looking for. One of the problems that I have is that I sometimes get an Error 19 with my iPod Touch which disables navigation. This seems to be a pretty common complaint with iPod touches running iOS 4.0 or higher firmware. BTW, this error is not limited to the Pioneer head unit. After doing some research, it appears that many head units have an issue with this.

I agree with the other reviews. This is a very good unit at a low price. I use it primarily to play music off a USB device and it does that flawlessly. There's only two minor things I didn't like: The master control knob can be turned, rocked in four directions, and pushed. The problem is in a bouncy vehicle like my pickup, you often end up rocking it when you're trying to push it. I think it would be better with a separate button for the push functions. The optional XM receiver is HUGE. It's probably too big to be mounted inside the dash of most vehicles. This is unlike other units that are closer to the size of a deck of cards and can be strapped in somewhere easily.

Nice Pioneer that easily interfaced to Bose system with the adapter cabling. It was a very tight fit to the real simulated wood panel and we had to file away about a 10th of an inch to make a perfect fit. No other problems, and the Pioneer is easy to operate and has a nice set of features for equalizer, AUX, and iPod interface.

This is by far the best HU I have ever purchased. The EQ settings are great because you can really customize your music however you want it and the 3 pairs of preamp outputs are great. The subwoofer control is also a plus, along with the Low and High-pass filters built right into the HU... It takes some of the load off of the amp by already filtering out some of the signal. I would definitely recommend this product to any first timer, or even a pro car audio enthusiast. The menus are so easy to navigate, the screen is readable even in sunlight, and the USB port comes in handy for plugging in an iPod or flash drive.. A must buy!

    Pioneer DEH-P4200UB Pretty Cool

Eazye from Hilliard, Ohio on 12/11/2010

I Recently bought this Stereo and I'm Very Happy with it. Fit into my impala pretty smoothly. It does everything i need it to do, has an easy to use remote & looks cool! I can hook my mp3 player right into the front, or I can plug a usb device (flash drive) right into the front & it plays it perfectly. You can removed the thumb drive, plug it in days later and it picks up song right where you left off! The only reason it didn't get 5 stars was because of screen size, and menu accessing. If i lost the remote I'd be fumbling around looking for what i want in the menus forever. The screen could've been bigger & the graphics are o.k. but annoying. Has good sub control & a seperate output for low's for your Amp. Overall I recommend this for a value priced head unit. Not the best, but far, far from the worst. Plus it looks cool.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love this head unit. I have installed 3 Pioneer HU's in the last 7 years. 2 in my daughters car, and this one in mine. This one is by far the best I have used. The controls are very intuitive, and the display is great. For my money, I think this is the best HU I could buy. Also the sound is super. It was an easy install in my Honda CRV, and my music sounds 100% better. Great IPod controls, plus I added XM (that was an easy install also). I have been shopping for a good unit for sometime, and had narrowed my search to this one. I got a great price on a great piece of equipment. If you're looking for great sound, but don't want to spend the mint, this may be for you. My only critique is that there is nothing telling you what to do with the blue wire. It needs to go to the other blue wire in your harness, or your tuner is not going to pull in channels like it should.

The only thing I miss is having the preset buttons on the face. The front AUX ports are awesome. And the pre amp outs were what I was mostly wanting. Great stereo, definately suggest to friends.

Very nice, does everything I need it to do and more, controlls a ipod great, I plug a MP3 player into the aux input, I have the GEX P920 hooked up to it for the Xm, Pleanty of power, Has all the output jacks for other amps, Only useing the sub out right now, Only complaint is that Pioneer needs to go back to the full face designs so you would have a bigger display, with all it does and I use it for it truly is a nice unit for the money. This is mounted in a cavalier it all was installed at once took about an hour and a half from start to finish, Crutchfield shipped every thing need'd and provide'd good instructions, not that they were used but they were nice

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit is a good deal for the money. The display modes (similar to screen savers for PCs) can be a bit annoying but are kind of a novelty item. The controls are a bit cumbersome but usable. Sometimes I find myself in want of just a few more buttons instead of having to go thru several menus just to adjust the bass level. The sound is very nice and the iPod integration is pretty robust. You can trick the unit into supporting applications like Pandora (at least for audio) just by allowing the unit to start playback on an iPhone and then starting Pandora. The controls for advancing tracks no longer work but the sound is pretty good. I paired this with 4 new kicker KS680s in my 99 F-150 and couldn't be happier. Don't overlook the importance of adding dampening material for the installation (materials like Dynamat) as it got rid of a lot of my issues with rattles in my truck and it really is amazing just powering the new speakers directly off of the stereo itself.

When you press BAND button the tuner changes to am,fm1,fm2,fm3 each fm has 6 presets 6x3=18+6am. faceplate detaches. believe me you will like it. installed in a 07 dodge charger.

Its pretty and bright. The only thing I am worried about is that the main control button won't hold up to everyday use. This Little Radio will blow your socks off! I am very happy to say this Pioneer radio does it all for a little cash. It does a very great job with my iPod, CD's sound great like always and my subwoofer sounds really well with out any engine wine or pop when you turn the car on. The clarity is very amazing, very, very clear highs and some good lows, I did up grade the factory speaks witch helped plenty! I am glad that I upgraded. I think this radio is easy to use, because I own another Pioneer in my wife's car that is very similar, and she thinks that the radio is easy to use and she isn't tech savy. Only one complaint, I just about sent it back. Crutchfield said there is a USB port in the back, that is one very big reason I wanted this model. The USB port is only!!! in the front, not in the back at all. Not a very big deal, I was able to run the iPod cable in may that it works for me but I do like it hidden in the back. I also like it in the front too, too bad I can't have it both ways. Thanks Crutchfield for the great deal!!! and Thanks Pioneer for such great equipment!

Easy installation... just match the colors and follow a wire diagram. Not hard when your a computer technician by trade. The bass she wanted was for sure added with this stereo, as long as you know how to tune a couple of equalizers. Basically childs play.

I just absolutely love, love, love my new system. I ordered it on a Saturday I believe and within that very week I received the package. My boyfriend installed it for me and I just love it. It really is very easy to understand and use. I love the USB port that I put my mp3 player into and it sounds wonderful. The radio was my concern at first with no number buttons to select a station, but it really is easy to set up and go through them. I actually recommended Crutchfield to a friend and she had me order her one also. I loved the free shipping, mounting and wiring kits that came with it when I ordered the stereo. This let me choose the one I really liked without breaking my budget. Thank you Crutchfield.

Put this in to replace the stock stereo on my 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX. Sound improved noticably in both clarity and warmth. iPod interface is great and works with both my iPod and the wife's iPhone. Controls are a little hard to figure out at first so spend some time with the manual. Installation wasn't too bad except that the plastic pocket that takes up the second slot beneath the unit is not that great.

I suggest getting a stripper/crimping tool and crimps, and be sure to connect everything whether you will use it or not. Leave the non-used conncetions long and somewhere you can pull them down. Case in point, if I do add a sub-woofer, I am good to go.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did a lot of research and settled on the Pioneer DEH-P4200UB. The sound amazes all who hear it. I replaced my stock speakers with 130TSD520C Pioneer Premier TS-D520C 5-1/4" Components and 130TSD902P Pioneer Premier TS-D902P 6" x 9"s. I got a high sensitivity speaker as I didn't want an amp. The sound is extremely crisp, clear and loud. I hear such great separation of the instruments that it's like hearing new enhanced recordings of my music. I pop in my thumb drive and my music is categorized similar to how my IPOD is displayed. Though the IPOD has more operation features, I'm happy using the thumb drive for the extra storage. There's many features these days so it's challenging for manufacturers to make units easy to operate and understand. I definitely used the manual, but it's not hard to operate and it gets simple quickly. I installed and called Crutchfield twice. They answered immediately and gave me right answers immediately. There are so many tweaks that it took quite some time to get the frequencies perfect for my listening preferences. Now that it's right, I just adjust the bass occasionally based on the recording. Don't let the wattage fool you, this unit cranks. I'm extremely happy with my purchase, the price, and Crutchfield. I highly recommend them if just for the outstanding support. If the system I purchased is in your budget and has the features you want, go for it, you won't be disappointed.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for my 2006 Kia Sorrento, and I am not disappointed! The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because the eject button for the faceplate is hard to use. I also thought from the pictures that the left side of the unit would be lit up blue. Upon installing it, I'm even more impressed that it does not. It would be annoying at night, and it does have a very classy look to it. The blue at night on the display is terrific, and the display even features multiple backgrounds that include two short animated movie backgrounds. I mounted the Sirius tuner and bus interface (came in a kit) on the right kick panel (away from heater vents!) and the supplied cables were just the right length. The antenna cable was just the right length and the Kia is easy to route through the side panels, etc. The antenna itself is small and cannot even be seen on my roof, perfect for the stealth install I am going for. With no external display, this is as close to factory installed as you can get, with all the display info right on the fantastic 3 line Pioneer display. Actually way better than factory, as this unit has great sound. The front usb is fine - I use a 2GB thumb drive and use mp3s at home and on the road. I'm really totally in love with this stereo.

    Doug from memphis on 3/1/2010

I installed this into my 2004 grand cherokee today and so far, so good. Its not very loud but that will change once I replace the speakers and amp them up. I like the HU for the most part but I am extremely disappointed with the display. The main thing that attracted me to this unit was that electroluminescent blue display on the left side. It does NOT glow blue at all. Only the lettering of the buttons are blue, nothing else.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First I recommend you buying this form Crutchfield especially since they will give you the installation package (dash kit and harness) for free so you can be sure you have the right stuff, also they include detailed instructions for your specific car and free shipping is hard to beat. I would've loved for the blue part to light up a little bit at least, also I would've liked a light up USB port (like my wife's older Kenwood) since is a pain and almost impossible to find it at night. The MC is a little bit clumsy and no very accurate at the beginning but you will get use to it, the same with the removable face at the beginning it gets stuck and is difficult to slide out or in but it get better over time. (it doesn't have a case) The functions on the stereo are simple but functional, easy to set up and control SUBs and Bass and the integrated HPF works great. The screen is small but awesomely clear, it shows you a lot of information and I love it, the iPod functionality is great you can TAG songs from the radio, and also you can find music really quick and browse through it like if you were operating the iPod itself. The sound is clear the Audio Retriever makes music sound better and catches sounds my stock stereo ignored the quality of sound is really incredible. The stereo is great I love it, it looks ok but sounds great, but hey, I bought it to listen to music not to stare at it right?

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Review: I installed this unit completely in about 3 hours but it was well worth it considering "professional" installation costs more than half the price of the unit. This system will really put the power to your speakers, but I'm not an audiophile so if you're looking for something at the highest end then obviously the price will tell you that this most likely isn't it. However this has really great sound and I've begun to tinker with the Sound Retriever and you really can tell the difference with songs that are encoded poorly. The Sound Retriever will attempt to restore the media to it's recorded state and it definitely makes a difference with some of those, how do you say, "bootleg" mixes. The iPod connectivity will definitely add resale value to any car that is not currently capable (like mine was) an Pioneer definitely did their homework in making this interfacing similar to how the menus and options are on the iPod. The volume/select knob can be a bit frustrating at times as pushing in any direction can seem to require a bit too much force (leads to hitting the wrong options on the menus). Also Pioneer could have made the torque resistance a little less because it just feels like the knob doesn't want to move sometimes. Overall, I am very satisfied with this unit and I may look to cash in on the other expandability options (HD Radio, Bluetooth, Satellite Radio) in the future.

    Display Features

Detachable Face Security: This unit features Detachable Face Security. If the front panel is not detached from the headunit within four seconds of turning off the ignition, a warning tone sounds. You can turn off the warning tone. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Note: No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.

OEL Display: The DEH-P4200UB features a black background with a 3-line, 12-character blue OEL display which takes advantage of MP3, WMA, iPod, XM Radio, and Sirius, plus CD Text-encoded discs. This display makes it easy to read and cycle through the song title, artist, and other text used by these sources.

Clock/Calendar Display: The Pioneer DEH-P4200UB provides a 12-hour clock and calendar (Year-Day-Month) display.

Entertainment Displays: The headunit offers entertainment displays while listening to each sound source. You can select from  Background Visual, Background Picture 1-4, Background Genre, Movie Screen 1-2, Simple Display, or Calendar.

Multi-Language: This unit is equipped with a multiple language display. You can select between English, French, or Spanish.

Ever Scroll: When the Ever Scroll feature is set to On, recorded text information scrolls continuously on the display. Set this feature to Off if you prefer the information to scroll only once.

Reverse Mode: If you do not perform an operation within approximately 30 seconds, screen indications start to reverse, and then continue reversing every 10 seconds.

Engine Time Alert: This feature allows you to measure the length of time that elapses from when the headunit is turned on and display the amount of elapsed timer per set period (15 or 30 minutes). An audible alarm will sound to alert you.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the Source button turns off audio output, but the clock display remains on. When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the source button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display by pressing the clock button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On you can select between the clock display or the audio track/tuner display.

Dimmer: To prevent the display from being too bright at night, the display is automatically dimmed when the car's headlights are turned on. The orange/white illumination wire must be connected to the vehicle's headlight circuit in order for this feature to work. You can also manually dim the brightness of the display from 0-15.

    Audio Section

MOSFET Amplifier: The DEH-P4200UB is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the DEH-P4200UB are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the DEH-P4200UB are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (or 50 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms + 70 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms for subwoofer)

7-Way Rotary Commander: The Pioneer DEH-P4200UB features a 7-Way Rotary Commander for easy control. You can scroll through your music and audio settings with greater ease using the 7-way rotary commander.

Sound Retriever: The Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. When Sound Retriever is on, the high frequency range is compensated to match the frequency response curve to the original sound. There are two available levels of the Sound Retriever effect.

EEQ (Easy EQ): The DEH-P4200UB is equipped with a 5-band (100Hz, 315Hz, 1.25kHz, 3.15kHz, and 8kHz) EQ with 5 preset EQ settings: Powerful, Natural, Vocal, Super Bass, and Flat. There are also two Custom modes which allow you manually adjust the headunit's 5-band EQ from +/- 6dB.

Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness feature to Low, Mid, High, or Off.

Bass Boost: The Bass Boost function raises the level of sounds lower than 100Hz. You can select a desired level of bass boost between 0 and 6 (Gain: 0dB to +12dB).

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

Three 4-Volt Preamp Outputs: The Pioneer DEH-P4200UB is equipped with three 4-Volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The front and rear speakers are fading with high-pass crossover filters, while the subwoofer output is non-fading with a low-pass crossover filter.

    • Front and Rear Preamp Outputs: If you do not want low frequency sounds to play from the front or rear speaker preamp outputs (or speaker outputs), you can turn on the 12dB/octave High Pass Filter. The HPF has a selectable cutoff frequency (50, 63, 80, 100, or 125 Hz). Only frequencies higher than those in the selected range are output through the speakers.
    • Subwoofer Output: The unit has a pair of dedicated non-fading RCA subwoofer outputs with a low-pass filter, phase adjustment, and output level. When the subwoofer output is turned on, you can select the frequency of the 18dB/octave low pass filter (50, 63, 80, 100, or 125 Hz), select the subwoofer phase (normal/reverse), and the subwoofer gain (+6 to -24).

Switchable Rear Channel/Subwoofer Speaker Output: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

    Radio Functions

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.

Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 level of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

HD Radio Ready: This unit is compatible with the optional Pioneer GEX-P20HD HD Radio tuner (130GEXP20H, sold separately) allowing you to tune available HD Radio stations. HD Radio features high quality audio, FM multi-casting, and data services. The add-on HD Radio tuner also supports iTunes Tagging which allows you to save song information (tag) from an HD Radio broadcasting station to your connected iPod or iPhone. The saved songs will show up in a playlist called "Tagged" in iTunes the next time you sync your iPod. Then you can directly buy the songs you want from the iTunes Music Store. The optional HD Radio tuner connects through the headunit's IP-BUS interface.

Note: Right now there are about 2,000 radio stations broadcasting using digital HD Radio technology in the U.S. To find HD Radio stations in your area, visit the HD Radio website (HDRadio.com).

Satellite Radio Ready: You can connect and control an external satellite radio tuner from XM or SIRIUS. The head unit is compatible with the GEX-P920XM (130P920XM, sold separately) Pioneer XM receiver. For Sirius there are two options; connect the SC-C1 SiriusConnect Universal Vehicle tuner and the CD-SB10 Pioneer Sirius Satellite Radio interface (700SIRPION, sold separately), or use the Pioneer Sirius Satellite Radio interface (130CDSB10, sold separately) and the SIRIUS dock-and-play adapter (607SCVDOC1, sold separately) along with a compatible portable SIRIUS radio. A subscription to XM or Sirius, plus the proper antenna is required in order to receive satellite radio programming. The satellite radio tuners connect via the IP-Bus connector on the back of the head unit.

    Disc Playback

MP3/WMA/WAV Playback: This unit can play MP3, WMA and WAV files recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs in ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, and Romeo formats. MP3 files with a bit rate from 8-320 kbps, WMA files with a constant bit rate from 48-320 kbps, and WMA files with a variable bit rate from 48-384 kbps are supported. The unit is compatible with ID3 Tags and will display artist, folder, file, and album name, plus comments. Up to 8 directories, 99 folders and 999 files per disc are recognized by this unit.

AAC Decoding: This unit will playback AAC files encoded by iTunes recorded onto CDs, however files purchased from the iTunes Music Store (.m4p file extension) are not compatible. Tracks recorded at transmission rates of 16-320 kbps are playable on this unit.

Note: When playing compressed audio, there is no sound during fast-forward or reverse.

Name/Track Title List: The Name List feature displays a list of MP3/WMA/AAC folders and tracks on a loaded CD or connected USB device, so you can easily access your music. Track Title List will also display the list of track titles on a CD Text disc.

Installation Angle: Optimum CD playback performance is obtained when the unit is installed at an angle of less than 60-degrees.

    Aux/USB/iPod Connection

Auxiliary Input: The DEH-P4200UB is equipped with a front panel 3.5mm stereo minijack auxiliary input for connecting external components, such as a portable MP3 player, DVD, or VCR. AUX must be turned on in the setup menu in order to be selected as a source.

Front-Panel USB Input: The unit's front-panel USB type-A input allows you to connect a USB portable audio player or USB flash memory that is USB Mass Storage Class compliant. This unit can play MP3, WMA, AAC, and/or WAV files stored on a USB Mass Storage device in FAT16 or FAT32 file system formats. MP3 files with a bit rate from 8-320 kbps, AAC files with a bit rate of 16-320 kbps, WMA files with a constant bit rate from 48-320 kbps, and WMA files with a variable bit rate from 48-384 kbps are supported. The unit is compatible with ID3 Tags and will display artist, folder, file, and album name, plus comments. Up to 8 directories, 1500 folders, and 15000 files per USB device are recognized by this unit.

Note: USB portable audio players that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the CD receiver's USB port and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or on.

iPod Interface: The DEH-P4200UB can control and playback songs on an iPod. This unit supports select iPods with a standard Dock Connector. You can connect your iPod using the unit's front-panel USB input (a dock connector-to-USB cable, such as the one supplied with your iPod, or the optional 130CDIU50, is required). When connected via USB, you can choose to control the iPod from the head unit or the iPod itself (you can still change songs from the head unit, even when you are controlling the iPod manually.) You can perform multiple search functions, including playlist, genre, artist, or album searches. You can also select random and repeat functions for a certain song, all songs, or specific folders. The headunit will also display your iPod's music file information, including Play Time, Song Title, Artist Name, and Album Title. While connected and the ignition switch is set to ACC or ON, the USB connection will power and charge your iPod. The Pioneer DEH-P4200UB is "Made for iPod/iPhone" compatible and supports the following iPod/iPhone model functions (as of Feb. 2010):
