When you add in iPod® controls and a great-looking variable-color display, you're looking at a receiver that'll bring safety, convenience, and superb sound to your car.

Pioneer DEH-P8400BH

Bluetooth for safety and convenience
Pioneer's DEH-P8400BH mutes the music when a call comes in and displays the incoming number or contact name. Just press a button and talk — no fumbling for your phone. The receiver stores your phone book if you like, so outgoing calls are easy too. If you've got music on your phone, use audio streaming to send it to the receiver, with no wires to get tangled up.

HD Radio for unparalleled radio sound
HD Radio's sonic advantages are impressive — FM broadcasts that are near-CD quality, with AM that's as good as what you're used to on FM. And if your local HD Radio station employs multicasting, this Pioneer allows you to tune into multiple channels on the same frequency, so you'll have more entertainment choices. Plus, the iTunes® tagging feature lets your save song info when your iPod's connected, so you can purchase the tracks you like later.

Pioneer for great sound
At the heart of this receiver, the built-in amp delivers plenty of power for strong sound. You'll also find an impressive collection of sound-shaping controls. Pioneer's Easy EQ 5-band equalizer lets you adjust the sound to your car's interior, while the Advanced Sound Retriever reverses the compression process to give you more high-frequency sparkle and musical detail from your digital audio files.

Play your music and streaming sources
The DEH-P8400BH plays all your CDs, including those with MP3 and WMA files burned onto them. Plug your iPod into the USB input, and you can use the Pioneer's controls to run the show. Once connected, the receiver bypasses your iPod's built-in digital-to-analog converter, using its own high-quality DAC to deliver your music files with the highest fidelity possible. When you plug your iPhone® into the USB port, you'll be able to take charge of your Pandora® Internet radio stations from the receiver. And this Pioneer's 1-amp USB port will charge your devices in record time.

Choose colors to match your car and your taste
The bright dot-matrix display displays all system information clearly, and you can adjust the display and control colors of this receiver separately, with thousands of possible combinations on tap. The DEH-P8400BH will blend right in, whatever the color of your car's control surfaces and dials.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Pioneer stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Pioneer, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPhone® 5 Note: You'll need to update this Pioneer receiver to enable Bluetooth control and metadata display for the iPhone 5 or other Apple iOS6 devices. This update requires a laptop with Bluetooth running Windows 7.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This has been no less than the tenth car stereo I have bought from Crutchfield over the last 20+ years. Every time has been Great! This time I found a stereo from the open box sales. The price was incredible! It was missing a piece of the microphone clip. The Install manual was missing. I made due and everything installed great. This is the first time the deal has not been Perfect. I am still very pleased with my Purchase price, Product, Service. I will look forward to the next time I do business with Crutchfield.

Pros: I love the Pioneer Supertuners. These have seemed to have the cleanest reception of most of the stereos I have bought. Bluetooth interface is simple and is a clean sounding. I love the HD radio AND Bluetooth AND USB ports all in one unit

Cons: I could live without the MIXTRAX. It is more in the way than anything else for me.

    Pioneer great as always!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pioneer has tons of features and adjustments for the money. Bluetooth, CD, and HD Radio and USB work amazing. Came with a nice USB wire which I didn't expect and had already ordered separately. Nice display, great sound, great build quality!

Pros: Tons of features!!! Pioneer quality. Many display colors. 4V out. USB input wire allows my to put all my music on one tiny cheap USB flash drive and not worry about theft of an iPod being left in the car. Bluetooth phone sounds good to me.

Cons: The main volume knob is a little slippery and could use a rubber/notched/textured feel to better grip the knob. Difficult to see the clock unless you set it to be huge which then blocks all other info unless you hit "display" to briefly see track, artist, album info. No biggie. Bluetooth phone sounds bad to people I am talking to.

    Great unit.

Bought this head unit to replace my factory one. Has great sound, Bluetooth works great, and so many options as far as display color. Perfect for what I needed.

Pros: Great sound, changeable display and button colors, USB and Bluetooth.

Cons: A little difficult to navigate the menus at first.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was a simple and relatively easy installation. The wiring harness made the execution of this radio swap enjoyable. The hardest part, though fun, was learning the radio control features. Radios are not the simple instruments they once were. Crutchfield mad this purchase simple and pain free!

Pros: Price and easy wiring harness hookup. FANTASTIC sound quality.

Cons: There is a learning curve on use of the product. Play with it in your driveway before taking a test drive. Otherwise, you will be too distracted.

    Good sound remote flakey

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sound is great. Wish it had good old fashion preset buttons. The remote will work one moment the a couple minutes later won't then another few minutes and it works again. Reception is not as good as my stock stereo in my 2000 Nissan Sentra. There are 3 stations that I regularly listen 2 that will not pick up on a scan and if manually tuned are very weak.

    Pros: Sound and looks

    Cons: reception and remote control

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I started using Pioneer car stereo equipment in the early '70's and they have not disappointed me to this day. DEH-P8400BH CD receiver was exactly everything I was looking for to replace the "premium sound system" factory installed in my ford escort.. it has the wow factor with almost unlimited variable color displays, 6 channel preamp outputs, HD bultin, Sirius satellite ready, wireless remote. I could go on and on........but let me just say that with my rewards points and it being on sale I payed a little over $100.00 for a car stereo comparable with the next 4 top models costing as much as $260.00

Pros: It is just what I wanted.........................

    Cons: Nothing, absolutely none

    Pioneer HD receiver

    Larry from Florida on 9/11/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Quality and sound are very good. HD function not straight forward. MATRIX only works through USB connection that is located in the rear of the receiver and requires the cable be installed and available from your installed location in the front. A front USB would be a great addition. Sound quality is great and EQ works OK. The controls are not that straight forward and are very difficult to adjust and tune while driving. If you push the wrong button at the wrong time you will screw up your other setting when all you wanted to do was search or change stations. It would be nice to be able to lock your Audio settings and have a scan function to find stations while driving from city to city. Dimmer circuit doesn't seem to be supported nor does dual antenna inputs that are Toyota standard.

Pros: Radio has great sound quality and has a knob to control volume. Phone BT works great for multiple phones.

Cons: Finding HD stations not that forward. Setting your local stations difficult while driving. Display characters small. No SCAN function. Searching while driving through different cities difficult while driving. Microphone could be BT wireless to make hidden installation easier and make transfer from passenger to driver useful. Almost have to had second person to operate Radio. HD fades out in weak signal areas. Does NOT support dual Toyota antenna connections. Does not support dimmer circuit with

    Great unit

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit replaced a stock infinity HU for my Dodge Dakota. It is much easier to use that my previous Pioneer deck in another vehicle and functions better than another JVC I had. All the basics are there and as good as anything I have used. I DID have to watch a couple of videos (on their site) to figure some functions out, but that's no big deal for me. The mix/dj function is embarrassingly juvenile. The only real downside for this unit is the Bluetooth calling feature. I just haven't been able to make clear calls with it. This might just be the problem of driving a truck with a higher noise floor, but it would be nice to get a little better call quality. Other than that, it has been a great purchase.

Pros: Lots of functionality Not too costly Color changing display

    Cons: Mix/dj Bluetooth call quality

    Nice features and price

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love the feature set, and the display option capability. Sounds great, HD radio works very well and I was also surprised how much better it worked when connected via Bluetooth to my iPhone 5....better than when connected to my Ford Sync system with much better and more responsive controls. Lots of controls and it takes a few moments to figure out the logic but well worth the effort

Pros: Great feature set, HD Radio, BT, and great controls for iPhone and Pandora

Cons: Takes some time to get accustomed to the controls

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm very pleased with this receiver. Bluetooth works like a charm, HD radio sounds great, I love the ipod hookup where It's controlled with included remote. Very easy hookup and install with included wiring harness, all you need is butt connectors. The only thing if I had to complain about is that it doesn't include a case for the removable face. I've only bought alpine prior to this purchase, they've all included a case. No big deal. This receiver is highly recommended.

Pros: Bluetooth, hd radio, best bang for the buck.

    Cons: None

Great head unit!! Easy wire up, looks good, amazing sound, a lot of features.....6 pre-outs makes it easy if your running an advanced sound system! GREAT PRICE FOR THE WHOLE BUNDLE (head unit/ dash kit/ wiring harness) local stereo shops told me they couldn't compete with what I payed.....

Pros: Bluetooth works great, way easier than trying to find my earbuds or putting the phone on speaker! A lot safer...... This head unit has many features and you can adjust your speakers in many ways!!

Cons: A little overwhelming adjusting all the features, but after reading instructions and getting used to it, it works really well.....I don't have any cons.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Needed a new head unit for my 2001 Mirsubishi Montero Sport. Because of the Infinity System, I needed a unit that had Front and Rear PreAmp Outputs. I also needed Bluetooth Calling and a Detachable Face, and wanted USB Charging for my phone. This unit had it all, at a great price, and with everything I needed to install it from Crutchfield for free. Can't beat it.

Pros: Front and Rear PreAmp Outputs Great Sound. Bluetooth Calling Detachable Face USB Charging Great Price

Cons: USB Port on Back. But with a little work, you can feed it to the front.

    Absolutely love it!

    1997 Jeep Cherokee
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love this head unit. Just installed in my 97 Cherokee XJ and as usual Pioneer meets and exceeds expectations. 52 watts of crisp, clear, and loud. 3 sets of pre-amp outputs for your RCAs in the back make installing a couple amps for your speakers and sub a snap. . Radio Tuner is great. My first HD radio and all I can say is WOW. I hope HD broadcasting becomes the industry standard. You can hear the difference on those stations that broadcast in HD. The Bluetooth works flawlessly, connects easily, and streams EVERYTHING from your phone. Most stock units I've come across with BT always seems to have problems connecting and recognizing devices. The illumination options are insane. This wasn't a major selling point for me but its really cool. You can set the keys and display together or separately to every color of the rainbow and every shade in between. For the price this thing is boss. Saw it for a lower price online from a big box store but that didn't include the mounting bracket, wire harness, wiring instructions, free two day shipping, and excellent customer service that only comes from Crutchfield. Pull the trigger, you won't be disappointed.

Pros: - 52w - 3 sets of RCA pre-amp outputs - Strong Tuner - HD Radio - Flawless Bluetooth - Insane Display options and looks nice - Aux in the front - Long microphone (for BT hands free) and USB cords included - Easy Install thanks to Crutchfield - Fast and free shipping - Best Price/Value (when you factor in harness, mounting plate, and shipping)

Cons: -USB connectivity in the back. This was ALMOST a deal breaker. I'm driving an old school Cherokee XJ so there were no established USB ports already set under the console to hook into. I needed my head unit to let my charge the phone on the road. I ended up using a dremel to make a couple holes in my console trim to mount the usb and BT microphone. A couple 3/8" grommets for the microphone and a couple O rings from home depot and some glue and it all looks flush and stock.

Tricky setup, then easy to use

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The initial setup of this unit wasn't very intuitive. I had to refer to the manual several times. Once I got past that, it has been easy to operate since then. Sound quality is good, and HD radio is a nice feature. Connections are all straight forward. The lack of preset buttons may be a turn off for some, and although the display is clear, it is small. This is worth buying just for the Bluetooth calls and streaming. Everything comes through loud and clear.

Pros: Bluetooth, HD radio, 3 sets of high power pre amp outputs, customizable display

    Cons: Setup is not traditional

    2004 Acura RSX
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed my p8400BH along with the PAC soem-4 a week ago. I was replacing the stock Bose head unit that had started to malfunction after nine and a half years of heavy use. Tricks in installing: The only difficulty I had in installing the unit was with the PAC soem-4. After installing, everything sounded great until I started up the motor. I had RF interference on three of the channels. I troubleshot that down to having run the power feed among the speaker wires. I went ahead and separated it out and zip tied it away from the speaker wires. At that point, I had three clean channels and one channel that still had RF interference. I ended up using more zip ties and building a wire harness of sorts, that held the power wire about three inches away from the speaker wires. That seemed to do the trick.

Pros: Rear USB: so I now have the equivalent of about 400 CD's on a single thumb drive in my glove box. HD radio: so most of the time, as long as reception is good, I see artist and song name in the display color coordinated: I matched the RSX type-S display lighting multiple backgrounds: The unit comes with a multitude of backgrounds. I played with the giant clock, but went with a animated background so I could display song and artist data all the time.

Cons: According to the manual and the description, you can play either random songs or random folders. The folder option does not seem to exist in the menu system, at least as described in the manual. If you want to play complete folders, randomly, it can't be done.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had seen this unit at another retailer and they wanted more money and the installation was crazy money. And they told me I would have to replace my cars speakers. The Crutchfield rep checked and told me no---I should be fine. I used the installsheild installer and had the radio in my car in less than a week over 4th of July! Radio is awesome, the sound quality on the phone is fantastic. AND I saved almost $400.

Pros: Price, ease of installation with their installers, quality of call sound, and the radio sounds great! Bluetooth for the phone is great, AND the fast charger is sweet.

Cons: None. The experience was better than I expected. And I will be getting another one for our other car soon.

    Best value to update a 1997 E320

    97 E320 from Irvine, CA on 7/15/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The best value unit if you want HD Radio and Bluetooth. By getting the updated in-car technology, I'm hoping this helps me put off buying a new car for another year. The keys they provided easily removed the factory unit. A call to Crutchfield support helped me figure out I needed to connect the pink wire on the harness to activate my antenna amplifier so that I could get AM stations. The unit fits well in the dash of my 97 E320. No front trim kit is needed. I was concerned that the antenna adapter did not fit snugly into the unit's antenna connection, but the reception quality seems to be fine. I recommend this unit. The HD Radio sound quality is good.

Pros: HD Radio and Bluetooth. Reception better than my factory deck. Customized button and display colors actually useful. Install was fairly straightforward in my E320.

Cons: The screen could be bigger. Glare during the day remedied by setting the display to black and white. I've had to experiment a bit to get the Bluetooth call volume higher. Does not work with factory CD changer (but no aftermarket units do).

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I know it is a little older system but what a great price point. I saw this system at a local retailer and it was $30.00 higher plus you would never get support like you do from Crutchfield. I rated the system a 4 only because of the Mixtrax gimmick. Totally just a toy and nothing more. The sound is fantastic and I love the HD. Super easy to install and the color variations are awsome

Pros: Great Sound, Modern Styling and Tremendous Value

Cons: MixTrax is a gimmick at least for me

Great head unit for the money, does everything I want it to do

G8rs Fan from Charlotte, NC on 7/5/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had so many head units in the past 10 years that I didn't have too high of expectations for this one, only because it was so much more simple than my previous ones, but I have to say that this does just about everything that I need it to do, and at a great price. Pros: -Pandora integration (see one con for this below) -Great sound quality -Lots of audio adjustments -Easy to use (directions leave a bit to be desired) -Built in bluetooth was a plus (including BT audio) -Lots of input options, front panel, back panel (with adapter) -Detachable face (see comment in cons too) Cons -Pandora offers a lot of display options, but can't get artist and track title together, unless you also have station name -"Forks" for removing head unit are very flimsy (what happened to the nice ones back in the day Pioneer?) -Detachable face requires pressing release button twice to release -Track up/down rocker seems flimsy Overall I am VERY pleased with this head unit. I am used to ones that have a lot more features, but since I bought a ragtop jeep I needed something a lot less showy, and this filled the bill, especially with the face detached. Another great product from Pioneer.

Pros: -Pandora integration (see one con for this below) -Great sound quality -Lots of audio adjustments -Easy to use (directions leave a bit to be desired) -Built in bluetooth was a plus (including BT audio) -Lots of input options, front panel, back panel (with adapter) -Detachable face (see comment in cons too)

Cons: -Pandora offers a lot of display options, but can't get artist and track title together, unless you also have station name -"Forks" for removing head unit are very flimsy (what happened to the nice ones back in the day Pioneer?) -Detachable face requires pressing release button twice to release -Track up/down rocker seems flimsy

    Returned the unit.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The install was fairly straight forward. At first I was unhappy with the reception but I have since learned that you need to attach the blue wire on the antena adapter with the blue and white wire on the wiring adapter. (This is not something you discover in any of the instructions. I discovered it by reading another review.) I was aggravated to have to find a Windows 7 laptop to upgrade the firmware in order to use an iPhone 5 but even more aggravated to discover that the laptop also have to have bluetooth. (Which the one I found did not have.) By this time I was seriously thinking about sending it back. Oh, Pioneer will do the upgrade for you for extra $. Fortunately, I started the next paragraph before I went that far. My real problem came with the operation of the unit. The people who mentioned how complicated and unintuitive this unit is to use were being kind. The owner's manual is almost helpful once you get out a magnifying glass to read the micro print. Alas, almost is not near enough with this unit. The frustration of dealing with trying to learn how to operate this was enough to get me to thinking about a return, but once I discovered that selecting a preset station required a minimum of three buttons that was it. Life's too short. I spent an extra $30 on a double DIN unit with HD and Bluetooth and couldn't be happier.

    Pros: Cheapest Bluetooth/HD unit.

Cons: Old firmware needs to be upgraded and this cannot be done by a Mac or Windows unit without Bluetooth. The manual is poorly written in tiny print. Controls are unintuitive and even the most common functions require multiple entries.

    Great Sound, Minor Inconveniences

CallmeMike from Elkhart, IN on 6/29/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, this is a good head unit for the money. Considerably better sound than the factory system in my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My choice was made on price, Bluetooth capability, hands-free cell capability, and Pandora app integration. Using an iPhone 4s, things work as described, for the most part. Installation was easy once I got the right harness. I originally ordered the unit with the wrong harness because I didn't realize my vehicle had the Boston Acoustics sound system in it. Crutchfield handled the exchange quickly and accurately. Upon installing the unit with the correct harness, I discovered, with the help of Crutchfield Tech Support, that the CAN interface with the new harness was defective. Exchange was again handled very efficiently, and ultimately the unit was installed quite easily and worked great. My biggest complaint is that for some reason, even with a great cell signal and no other apps interfering, Pandora will just intermittently pause for no apparent reason, and occasionally the head unit will not display the track information from the app. There is apparently a sequence to hooking up and turning everything on that must be followed to get everything to play together nicely. But for the price, the sound is great with my factory speakers, and the hands-free feature for cell calls is outstanding and has worked perfectly for me for the month I've been using it. It works perfectly with Siri on my iPhone, and the call quality is good both ways.

Pros: Great price, great sound, all the features I was looking for and everything works as described, very easy installation, very customizable display (colors, backgrounds, etc.), rear USB port that is powered and will charge my devices, microphone cable and USB cable supplied are plenty long and decent quality, picks up my cell phone via Bluetooth instantly when the unit powers on.

Cons: Clock display is VERY small, almost unreadable from the driver's position, no sleeve for removable face

This is an extremely full featured head unit for the price. I had an issue with "USB error" with the first unit, but Crutchfield customer service was great and replaced it quickly with a new unit that works great.

Pros: - Great value (HD radio, bluetooth, iPod connectivity) - Great sound - Customizable colors

Cons: - Only 1 bluetooth device can be programmed in memory - Radio station numbers for programmed channels not displayed - Busy background, but can be changed

Works and looks better than advertised!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this single din unit for my wife's corolla, the factory unit had several problems with both the AUX and the on/off/volume control. I would first like to state that I received the best customer service that I have ever gotten from a company, that remains true for both the selection process of the unit, the addition material sent later on for wiring, and deconstruction the console. I had never installed a head unit before and the directions that came with the head unit for wiring and the console were flawless. After having used the unit for a while I will say that I have bean very satisfied with it.

Pros: Many features that my wife wanted- wireless, bluetooth, rear-mount USB, HD radio, cd, mp3, display with both color and contrast control, etc. The mounting hardware put it write into the dash so it sets Flush with the surface and doesn't look out of place, nice and clean. The wiring harness was blessedly easy to understand and perform, just strip and twist, then just plug into the factory harness with nothing needing to be left out rewired or moved.

Cons: wish the mounting armature was a bit more substantial the one I took out was metal and the universal mounting bracket was rather thin snap-together plastic. that all being said it worked just fine and everything lined up the way it needed to. The main lever and volume control are a little hard to use when underway they work just fine but I'm afraid I'm going to hit a bump press something to hard without meaning to and break something, the remote takes care of this issue just fine.

I have a Pioneer system in my vehicle and like it very much. When I needed to buy a system for my daughter I chose this Pioneer model. It offered a lot of great features - Bluetooth, iPhone integration, Pandora, HD Radio - for a great price. Installation was a Breeze. The sound is great even out of my daughter's stock speakers. I was especially amazed at how great HD Radio sounded on the system.

Pros: Great features for a great price - Bluetooth, iPhone integration, Pandora, HD Radio

Cons: No voice dialing. I couldn't find any way through the stereo to activate Siri so you could dial by voice. Also, if you've never used a Pioneer car stereo before there is a bit of a leaning curve. It is not the simplest of stereos. It does offer a lot of powerful settings though.

This deck does not make it easy to switch between the devices. The menus are VERY clumsy and navigating them is annoying at best.

Does a decent job of powering four Pioneer 4-way speakers. The Pioneer provided remote is very easy to use - even easier than using the head unit knobs and buttons.

This unit is a Great Value!! Linking my Fiancee's new Samsung Galaxy S3 to this Pioneer head unit on "Phone Mode" was a Total Piece Of Cake!! We left the stock factory speakers in her 1999 Honda Accord, and it Sounds Great!! I guess that is testament both to the compatibility of the Pioneer DEH-P8400BH, as well as the quality of the speakers that Honda installed in this vehicle. The sound quality when talking on the phone is good, but not great. But, She Loves It!! Many "Brownie Points" scored there!! This is a Very Good "Bang For The Buck" Product, All Around!!

Pros: Price, compatibility with stock speakers, ease of linking "Android" style Samsung Galaxy S3 Phone with head unit.

Cons: Sound quality a little "Grainy" on "Phone Mode". Takes some time to learn your way around features, modes, etc.

    TOO Much Radio Static

Guest from Douglassville, PA on 10/19/2012

Purchased this head unit for my birthday back in September, Sound quality is great! Very big improvement in quality of sound over stock head unit. I bought this radio for all the features available for the price (great deal i thought). I bought it knowing the USB port was on the rear so not thrilled about that but it had everything else i wanted. My Biggest complaint is the radio going back and fourth between analog and digital. Its all static. I even had my friend who is a certified installed check out the unit and even he can't get the static to go away. Maybe it has something to do with the digital tuner for HD radio, I don't know. Other then that I pretty satisfied with the unit. I would rate this unit higher if I could get good reception.

Pros: Great Sound over stock unit, Can dial in sound much better then with stock unit. iPod Controls, BT, and BT Audio is a pretty nice feature

Cons: Rear USB port, Radio Antena

    Love the sound and features

Pros: Nice features - Blue Tooth - HD Radio - Streaming Audio ipod or Pandora. Being able to change the color to match your car dash lights..

The sound is very good. The bluetooth works great and was easy to set up and use. It has a lot of features for the prices, so it is a good value. This is the first after-market unit I've installed in a vehicle in a very long time and there are a few things I'm adjusting to. I'm not crazy about the "dial and lever" design for the controls. The volume knob doesn't stick out very far and it has a smooth surface so it is difficult to turn. It is easy to push, which changes it's function, while trying to adjust the volume. The clock is virtually unreadable when playing music. I could do with out all the twisty-bendy laser show in the display and make the clock easier to see. It doesn't have presets for the radio stations, so you have to scroll through to find the one you want.

    Pros: Great sound Bluetooth

Cons: Difficult controls Clock display too small

I have always used Pioneer from day one and this model is great. Bluetooth quality is excellent. The Ipod and USB functionality is also superb. My only complaints are below. These are somewhat minor, but if the stereo had these, I would give it 10 stars. First, it doesn't support voice dialing. Second, there is no front panel USB and this makes no sense to me. They do include an USB cable to connect to the rear, but why should you have to fumble around with a loose cable. Third, the instructions are all there, but it is confusing since another model is included. It is very difficult to tell when they switch instructions between the two models.

The instructions aren't great but it's not hard too figure out! It's very easy, took me about 10 minutes too go through all features and tune them too my Hummer. Everyone here that says its hard too use is impatient and just a super hard critic. They could have put easier present locations but it's not a big deal! Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As a sailboat delivery captain, I spend a lot of time on the road. I wish this were easier to use. The lack of preset buttons, and difficult menu are a tough combination. The main reasons I bought this model were the bluetooth (which works well) and the HD / RDS which are very difficult to access. The manual is not clear, and I have trouble getting to the features I want to use (for example, tuning to HD2 is really hard to get to when driving down the road). I have only had it a month, but have put 7000 miles on my van with it, and have yet to find the logic in the controls. The sound it good, but getting to the features is somewhat difficult.

Pros: Good sound, really like the ability to turn off the display to make the dash dark at night... hands free calling works well.

Cons: IMHO, very difficult controls. Hard to tune, much like a radio with only a search function... lack of preset buttons for the tuner, and difficult getting to the HD channels make these features less then useful. Also have a hard time using the RDS

Overall, I'm very happy with the product. The sound quality is awesome. The tuner's sensitivity is great - picking up even the weakest signals. I read some reviews that complained about operation of the radio but it seems intuitive to me. I like the ability to change display color settings to match the interior lighting. The Bluetooth audio streaming and phone support works really well and setup was easy...just pair up the phone and you're off and running. Installation was easy considering that I bought the GM wiring harness and mounting kit. The only installation issues I had were related to a faulty GM harness and the Crutchfield support guys were very helpful with that. Overall the radio is a great value.

Pros: Sound quality, sensitive tuner, intuitive operation and great Bluetooth support. Reasonable cost!

Cons: The only criticism I have at this point is that the surface of the display is very shiny which allows for a lot of glare making the display difficult to see on sunny days. I haven't experimented with the contrast settings yet but hopefully that will help.

Great Sounding Stereo. Replaced Factory HU and couldn't imagine my car stereo sounding so good. iPhone support is great. Bluetooth Audio and Phone support works amazingly well. Only two things that I have a real gripe about so far. I've had the unit installed for about 3 weeks now. Text on the display is kind of small to read while driving. Also, if the last device to play was a USB device (like my iPhone), then you jump in the car later and just want to listen to stereo, the unit will not power on until I plug my phone in or hold the Source button for about 20 seconds.

Pros: Sounds Great! USB Rear plug Comes with Bluetooth and hands free mic iOS sync is spot on

Cons: Display text a little small and some colors not easily seen Can take a while to switch from USB to another source if last USB device is not attached. Switching sources - you have to cycle through all the sources. Can't go backward.

Still working through some issues with this thing but my bottom line on this unit is that it is an "adequate" replacement for the stock CD/AM/FM unit that came with my 2007 Hyundai Tucson. The "human interface" for this unit seems to have been designed with manufacturer economy of parts in mind rather than the end user trying to operate it while traveling 70 mph down the interstate. Sound quality with stock Hyundai speakers is OK. Don't even bother with the crappy apps for your iPod (total waste of time). Odd faceplate shape makes it difficult to remove if you install trim from the mounting kit. NOT a good fit for the the 2007 Hyundai Tucson. Knowing what I know now I would never have purchased this unit.

Pros: I can listen to radio stations and my ipod

Cons: User interface not suitable for operation while vehicle is in motion. Trying to go through menu items while driving is not a good idea. Sound quality with stock Hyundai speakers is not good. Fit with provided mounting kit from Crutchfield fine, but trim just does not work well with this unit. The Apps just are a waste of time. Use the stock music player on ipod/iphone. iPod/iPhone control from head unit is next to useless. Would be nice to have access to playlists. Use "app mode" intead.

It's a really good radio, really good sound, takes a while to learn to use and tricky to make sure you are pressing the know instead of turning it for some of the functions. two issues: 1) when the radio is not playing the clock readout is big, in the center of the display and easily readable. When music is playing it is not and if like me you want to know what time is it while driving you will be left very annoyed. 2) that weird background display shape spinning stuff which Pioneer pitches as a plus it not for me or anyone I know and I wish they would get rid of it to make the clock display bigger. beyond that it's a great radio and I am very happy with it

Pros: music sounds great - bluetooth phone calls work great with built-in microphone - "AppMode" didnt make sense to me at first until I really figured out how to use it and what it adds but now I really like it for Pandora - music over USB and bluetooth both work great too - installed very easily - HF radio sounds nice too but I rarely have a reason to listen to it

Cons: time display size when music is playing is unreadable from drivers seat - sort of complicated to operate in terms of number of operations and ease of doing the wrong thing to the controls (turn/push instead of push/turn etc) - I wish the USB was in the front - would be nice if there was a button for each channel in a preset bank instead of having to scroll back and forth across all the channels - mixtrax display adds no value at all did i mention the size of the clock display?

Fantastic piece of equipment, Love the HD Radio, and the Bluetooth function is a necessity here in California, the unit give great access to the phone numbers in your phone for all dialing needs from the Head Unit itself. I don't care much for the MixTrax, it doesn't mix tracks amongst different folders from my USB drive, it only works from the songs inside a single folder, I want it to bounce around to different folders. Love though that I can put all my music on a USB drive and play directly from that, and don't have to spend a bunch of money on an Ipod. Overall a great unit, very satisfied with my Purchase.

Pros: HD Radio and Bluetooth with external mic Built in. Can play from USB drive.

Cons: Wouldn't connect to my old PIoneer CD Changer, if though it has the IP Bus, but the USB drive playability more than made up for that loss. Mixtrax isn't as good as advertised. Limited to IOS and not Android functionality, I much prefer Android, personal preference I know, but that shouldn't be a limiting factor considering the number of Android users out here.

I bought this headunit to replace the stock HU in a 2003 Ford Focus so I'd have USB and aux-in. It does the job perfectly. Sound quality is definitely better than the stock HU even though it was an "Audiophile" system. The included USB extension cable was a nice touch. I haven't install the BT mic yet but look forward to having that feature in the future. The only cons are its flashy appearance and the difficult navigation. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This deck was purchased to replace a Clarion CZ500 that kept having problems (I am glad I bought the extended warranty). I enjoy the bluetooth, sound and Ipod controls. Overall I am very pleased with the product. We will see if it lasts since the Clarion did not (had problems with the clarion after only 6 months and had it fixed three times with no luck).

Pros: Sound, ease of use once I played with it, ipod controls, HD built in

Cons: Manual is vague, hard to figure out if electronics are not your thing (but since you bought from Crutchfield you must know something), the display is very small.

    Good value for the money

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

In my experience Pioneer has some of the best receivers available. The instructions are not very clear so it helps to have previous experience with Pioneer auto receivers. The sound quality is excellent and the radio reception is outstanding. I installed this unit in a 1993 Miata and the lever on the multi control knob is in a very good location for this car. I also liked being able to select an illumination color that is very close to the instrument lighting on the Miata. The bluetooth works very with my Kyocera cell phone but I wouldn't call it hands free since you have to select phone numbers by looking and not talking to into the mic.The Pioneer replaced an Alpine unit that I was very dissatisfied with from the day I purchased it. bought it. I am very pleased that I made the switch.

Pros: Sound quality, radio reception, wide selection of illumination colors, Pioneer quality.

Cons: Sketchy instructions. When disconnecting the car battery everything except the bluetooth needs to be reprogrammed.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This new Pioneer head unit is the best Pioneer I have ever owned! Bluetooth works great and automaticly links to known bluetooth devices. The bluetooth phone feature is great it even works with my old cheap flip phone! Mixtrax is pretty cool for show and is easily disabled when not wanted. The display actually has the option to dim when you turn on your headlights so your not blinded by the bright colors while night driving. All around sounds quality is great and highly adjustable! I did alot of research on this unit before I bought it and it is even better than I expected! I have no regrets on upgrading to the bluetooth version. The install was easy as pie and it looks great installed!

Pros: Bluetooth,HD radio,Charges USB devices, 3 high volt pre outs for auxillary amps and speakers, display lighting customization, Great sound! You can customize the sound and lighting to fit your style. You can turn off the display completely if wanted and still use the unit. When you hit a button it will only display for a few seconds and shut back off. Good for road trips at night when you need to focus on the road. I shopped around and this is the BEST price I found anywhere!

Cons: Its a little complicated to adjust some of the settings. Sometimes I have to scan through the manual to figure it out. Wish I could change ringtones for incoming calls. The unit only has one ringtone. Also the background display has a limited selection such as some of the older Pioneer models. Maybe they could make them to where users could download new ringtones or backgrounds and upload them via I pod or I phone? The unit did not come with a protective case for the face plate.

Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase. The Bluetooth works great with both my old HTC Aria phone and my girlfriend's much new HTC EVO4G. HD radio comes in loud and clear, although you have to connect the tabbed blue lead that says 'remote amp' to the blue antenna wire lead. Apparently the 'remote amp' is an antenna amplifier. I almost had to call Crutchfield to figure that one out. I think the MIXTRAX feature is very cool, but it appears to not work with HD Radio or CDs. Only MP3s, WMAs, etc. Of course that might be wrong because the freakin' documentation w/ the stereo is literally laughable. Figuring out how to set the tuner pre-sets isn't even clearly described and it is NOT intuitive (and this about my 10th aftermarket unit). Installation was a piece of cake in my 2009 cube, but I might have to reinstall it using the front mount brackets to get the faceplate to detach. The rear mount bezel (in the cube at least) doesn't leave enough room to detach the faceplate. But the installation is WAY clean. I stuck the Bluetooth microphone on the inside edge of the Double DIN cubby and it works great and has a swivel to aim it at the center of the car for my passenger. Bluetooth audio quality is good. The rear USB includes a very long USB extension cable, but you'll have to ream out one of the holes in the cubby if you are going to run the cable through it. It's not an iPod cable, just a USB extension. Sound is MUCH better even w/ factory speakers.

Pros: Lots of great features for a very reasonable price. Pioneer quality. USB extension cable included. Great installation accessories from Crutchfield (as always). A solid upgrade from a factory head unit.

Cons: Poor documentation of MIXTRAX features and other tuner operations in typically lousy Pioneer manual. Antenna connection required some trial and error. Not enough clearance for faceplate to detach when installed rear mount w/ the DIN+cubby bezel.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The main reason I replaced my factory radio was to get Bluetooth connectivity. Using FM transmitters and cassette plugins was a pain and does not work well. The P8400's bluetooth works without any problem with my Droid X. I had some questions in doing the replacement and Crutchfield support was very responsive and knowledgeable. I can't praise the support enough, and my daytime job is networking tech support/ I have yet to put a CD in but the sound is very good, glad I spent the extra bucks and very glad I bought from Crutchfield. The microphone for the bluetooth seems to work OK, I am still trying to find the right location to attach it. Putting it on the steering wheel column was not great for those who I was talking to, but I am not sure I have done all that can be done.

    Pros: Bluetooth works well.

Cons: None that I have found

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great stereo! Purchased for a 2008 Chevy Colorado, wired with the GMOS1 harness in about 90 minutes (GMOS1 poor instructions took the most time, will review that too, follow the wire colors and your fine). Installed the stereo as darkness fell with a flashlight in about 15 minutes. The trim plate is a little larger than the opening of the Colorado dash trim, I filed the bevel off of the Pioneer trim plate on both sides (plus a little more) and it fits snug. I also added the Pioneer XM module. This is a great addition and puts the dash mount add on units to shame. The Pioneer XM sounds amazing. I bought an iPod Touch to use with this stereo - works great, very intuitive, plug it in and it just works. My cell phone (Casio G'Zone) paired up right away with the stereo, not as intuitive as the iPod, but works excellent. I am able to easily take calls with my stereo! The callers say the sound is great and they didn't know I was driving. I have not figured out the bluetooth audio yet, it pairs and starts playing my cell phone mp3's but the sound doesn't come through. I haven't spent much time trying to figure it out though. The sound has a little too much base for my factory speakers, needed to the the high pass filter and take the bass down with the Graphic EQ - will upgrade those later. My girls love the MIXTRAX when I play the iPod - very cool I bought a 8 GB USB drive and loaded it up with hours of tunes, will leave that in the glove box

Pros: Price - nothing else compares with this for the cost / option ratio iPod is cool and intuitive XM Module far superior to a dash mount XM add on Cell phone through Bluetooth keeps your eyes on the road Remote is a nice touch, again, keeps your eyes on the road MIXTRAX - very cool option Stereo has the COOL FACTOR - my teenager and her friends love it Background and color options - like getting another stereo for free!

Cons: Graphic EQ is touchy, takes out too much or not enough - but you can mess around with the various filters, boosters, EQs etc until you get a sound you want. Makes you want to spend more on the options and speakers (is that a bad thing?)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed this unit into my 2011 Subaru Impreza 2.5i - First of all, Crutchfield supplied everything needed like usual and made the install a breeze! I did quite a bit of research before choosing this unit and here's why I did; HD Radio Built-In, Bluetooth Built-In, REAR USB!!! It's really sad to see the extreme lack of REAR USB input in todays aftermarket stereo's. I hate seeing a big USB jump drive sticking out the front of the stereo just begging to be smack and cracked or broken off. I've been a Pioneer fan for a long time and have installed them in my Wrangler, and Dodge trucks, and went to them again for my new Subaru! Can't wait to get some new door speakers and a small sub to really fill out the sound and use this stereo to it's fullest. Although the navigation is a little quirky, it works. The color matching display looks great with the stock dash cluster and accent lights.

    Great Stereo - OK Bluetooth...

The stereo in my 98' Toyato Camry died and I figured it a good opportunity to upgrade. I really wanted something with good iPod controls and Bluetooth so I can talk hands free and have everything integrated through my stereo. I originally was looking at the Alpine unit that it similar but seeing as it was out of stock checked out this unit as well. I LOVED the fact that the USB was in the back of the unit, if I'm going to install a new head unit I don't want to STILL have wires littering my dash... I figured it had Bluetooth and I once had an older Pioneer that worked well, so what could go wrong? I'm very happy with the way the install turned out! I driller a small hole in the back of the pocket I had to install below the radio and ran an apple iPod cable from the stereo into the pocket. I can plug my iPhone in easily and still have access to it but with NO cables littering my car :D! I love the way the stereo works and the controls are nothing to complain about! The Pandora function is super cool as well. My only unhappiness is with the Bluetooth, to put it nicely, it sucks. As soon as you answer a call or have a call answered you'll know what I mean. The other person says, 'It's loud, I can't hear you, and why are you screaming?' You know how that goes... I should have gotten the Alpine unit which allows you to control the sensitivity of the microphone...

Pros: Interface is great. Ipod controls are awesome! Pandora app is really cool!

Cons: Bluetooth micro sucks! It's really sensitivey and in older louder cars it makes for terrible sounds to the other perosn on the phone! I don't think this is adjustable. I installed the microphone in a spot with no wind or which would be noisy and it still sucks. I am still using my headphones for call which I was trying to avoid in the first place... NOT happy with the Sound Quality of calls! Also it is the slightest bit glitchy with the ipod interface if you plug in headphone during a call...

The reason i had began looking at a new radio was because i had my car stolen. As you can imagine everything that had been of any value was taken. I had a cheaper model pioneer and had decided to stick with pioneer. i was kinda hesitant about getting it and did a lot of looking around and found that crutchfield really had the best deal. The main reason i had gone with the radio was for the bluetooth ability. i ordered it and it came in exactly when they said it would. got the package open and found the installation kit and instructions which was above and beyond.the instructions for removing the factory radio, install of the new one and was well detailed and had good pictures. was a perfect match to my 99 acura tl, even had instructions for door panel removal. the install kit is WAY better then the one i had bought from bestbuy. first impression after install overall is an awesome radio. could have used a few more options like with the mixtrax it would be nice to change the sound of changing tracks and also a better selection of backgrounds. i have infinity reference door speakers and it sounds amazing in radio, cd and usb. 5 band equalizer makes it for great customization according to your preference. bluetooth works okay with my samsung infuse, music occasionally skips and wont show you track title on the songs you play but allows for full control of playing music.

Pros: it has plenty of customizing options

Cons: radio doesn't come with anything to put the face in when detached.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this to replace my failing OEM receiver in my beefed up 2001 Mustang GT. The car is loud, but with the Dynamat Extreme sound dampening material lining the interior and trunk of the car, I can still hear enough of the sound system to enjoy it over the road noise of the car. I was torn between this unit and the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X996. The descision came down to a diffrence between this unit having the MixTrax feature, and the Radio Data System while the Kenwood was $100 more, offered Pandora support via Blackberry (my job provides a free Blackberry phone which I use constantly), and better output based off the RMS output. I went with this unit becuase I understood that the RDS would let me search stations by genre and MixTrax just seemed like it would be a cool feature taht made my receiver stand out. Well, the RDS features don't offer station searching and MixTrax is poorly documented and not nearly as cool as the computer application that supports it. So, at the end of the install, I wish I had gone with the Kenwood unit. I will say that this receiver sounds amazing though! If you're looking for a good quality digital radio receiver with rear USB support, handsfree phone features including a satelight microphone, and good audio controls then this receiver exceeds expectations. The useless features that won me over make me want to give a bad rating, but at the end of the day the quality of the receiver still stands out enough to receive a good one.

Pros: -Great sound and audio controls -Good quality handsfree phone support -Customizable color buttons and screen for a look that matches your style -Overall outstanding features.

Cons: -Not all features are as good as they sound -The control lever on the front can be awkward when driving -MixTrax is pointless except for annoying lighting effects -USB playback takes about a minute to initialize.

Works and sounds great, very easy to use and intuitive. The Bluetooth calling sound quality is very clear. I mounted the MIC right behing the steering wheel right by my gauges. 6 pre-outs for you 4channel and your sub. 4volts so theyre gonna sound great, a very noticeable improvement over the stock sound quality. Also the MIXTRAX will get you that cool factor. It really is like a mini party in your car! I plug in my 16Gb thumb drive full of music to the USB extension cable and its good to go! The color options/color changing on this deck is fun too. Also have to mention that the install took me only 45 minutes thanks Cruthfields included brakcet, screws, pocket, wire harness and instructions. They really are vehicle specific. Made my life easy!

Great radio, bad advice by Crutchfield customer support

    Dano from Austin on 2/24/2012

This is an excellent radio. The HD is high quality, and the interface is easy to use. Initially when I tried to complete my purchase Crutchfield technical advisers were insisting I needed a wiring adapter which costs some $65. I have a 2002 Golf w/o the Monsoon stereo, which according to Crutchfield required the PAC VW Radio Replacement Interface. I went to the PAC Audio website, & noted the following: "2002-2005 Vehicles: In these year vehicles the C2R-VW2 does not provide a Reverse output trigger. This signal is unavailable on the data bus. You must be replacing a factory Double-DIN radio. If the vehicle came equipped with a Single-DIN radio, the C2R-VW2 is not compatible." Guess what kind of factory radio I have?? A single DIN factory radio. When I got on to Chat I was told that not all wiring harnesses are free, and because of my vehicle/radio configuration I would need to purchase this. I tried to explain on Crutchfield chat that this harness would not work on my car, & all I wanted was the free harness that has always been included for free with a stereo purchase from Crutchfield. After some back & forth between myself and the adviser's, and me considering passing on the purchase, I was contacted by one of the managers who advised they had done more research and recognized a mistake. Apparently the entry for my car had the same adapter regardless of whether you had a Monsoon system or not. I was told that not all wiring harnesses are free, and because of my vehicle I would need to purchase this. I tried to explain on Crutchfield chat that this harness would not work on my car, and all I wanted was the free harness that has always been included for free with a stereo purchase from Crutchfield. According to the Pac Audio website: "2002-2005 Vehicles: In these year vehicles the C2R-VW2 does not provide a Reverse output trigger. This signal is unavailable on the data bus. You must be replacing a factory Double-DIN radio. If the vehicle came equipped with a Single-DIN radio, the C2R-VW2 is not compatible." Guess what kind of factory radio I have?? A single DIN factory radio. Three cheers for up-selling an incompatible product Crutchfield!

Pros: The issue was resolved, & they thanked me for pointing the issue out. Now if you order a stereo to replace your non-Monsoon system, the free harness is available.

Cons: The lesson here is: Do your research! Mistakes can happen, and I ended up saving myself $65 by making sure the parts I was purchasing were in fact required for my configuration.

Best of all, HD Radio is 100% subscription free. The unit's tuner also supports analog AM/FM broadcasts.

Note: HD Radio is the system for digital AM and FM broadcasting in the U.S. More than 2,000 radio stations are broadcasting their primary signals in digital HD Radio technology, as a free service. Go to to check for HD Radio stations in your area.

Multicasting: In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting it is possible to choose from up to 3 multicast programs (HD1 to HD3, and analog). There are also data programs for each program.

RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible analog or HD AM/FM stations.

iTunes Tagging: It is possible to save the song's information (tag) from a HD Radio or RDS FM broadcasting station to your USB-direct connected iPod/iPhone. The songs will show up in a playlist called "Tagged" in iTunes the next time you sync your iPod/iPhone. Then you can directly buy the songs you want from the iTunes Music Store.

Supertuner IIID: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

Reception Blending: If a digital broadcast reception condition gets poor, this unit automatically switches to the analog broadcast of the same frequency level. If this function is set to "On", the tuner switches between digital broadcast and analog broadcast automatically. If this function is 'Off', reception will be conducted within an analog broadcast.

BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest analog or HD stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.

Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 level of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

XM Satellite Radio Ready: You can connect and control Pioneer's GEX-P920XM XM tuner (130P920XM, sold separately).

Note: A subscription to XM, plus the proper antenna is required in order to receive satellite radio programming.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Pioneer in-dash head unit utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior CD sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The DEH-P8400BH is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the DEH-P8400BH are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the DEH-P8400BH are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (or 50 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms + 70 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms for subwoofer)

3-Way Rotary Knob: The Pioneer DEH-P8400BH features a 3-way rotary knob combined with a 4-way lever for easy control. You can scroll through your music and audio settings with greater ease using the 3-way rotary knob and 4-way lever.

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. Hear the detail, warmth, and clarity, the way the artist intended it, from all of your highly compressed MP3 and WMA files stored on your USB device, iPod/iPhone, and portable media players. By restoring data (especially higher frequencies) that tends to get lost in the digital compression process, Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever technology enhances audio reproduction nearly all the way up to 20 kHz frequencies

Preset EQ: The Pioneer DEH-P8400BH is equipped with seven EQ presets. You can choose from Powerful, Natural, Vocal, Super Bass, Flat, Custom 1, or Custom 2.

Graphic EQ: The DEH-P8400BH's two Custom EQ modes (1 & 2) let you adjust the head unit's 5-band graphic EQ (100Hz, 315Hz, 1.25kHz, 3.15kHz, & 8kHz). You can adjust each band between +6 to -6.

Bass Boost: The Bass Boost function raises the level of sounds lower than 100Hz. You can select a desired level of bass boost between 0 and 6 (Gain: 0dB to +12dB).

Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness feature to Low, Mid, High, or Off.

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

Three Pair of 4.0-Volt Preamp Outputs: The Pioneer DEH-P8400BH features three pair of 4.0-volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The unit's front and rear preamp output can be faded (front/rear), while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading.

Crossovers: The DEH-P8400BH employs high pass and low pass crossovers to tailor the head unit to your connected speakers.

    • High Pass: The head unit's 12dB/octave high pass filter only allows frequencies higher than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125Hz) to your front and rear speakers through the unit's speaker-level or line-level outputs.
    • Low Pass: The subwoofer preamp output features an18dB/octave low pass filter so only frequencies lower than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125Hz) are output to your connected subwoofer.

Subwoofer Controls: The Pioneer DEH-P8400BH lets you adjust the subwoofer preamp output's phase (normal/reverse) and volume (+6 to -24).

Rear Channel Speaker Output: You can choose to use the rear channel output (speaker and preout) for full-range speaker or subwoofer. If you select "subwoofer", you can connect a 4-ohm subwoofer directly to each rear speaker lead, or a 2-ohm subwoofer to one of the rear speaker leads, without using an external amplifier.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The DEH-P8400BH comes with an IR wireless remote control. The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause the CD, change the display, and adjust the audio. The mute button allows you to quickly lower the volume by about 90% (function that cannot be performed from the front panel). In addition, the remote provides answer/end phone controls for Bluetooth.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).
