Amazing performance at a reasonable price

Pioneer's MVH-S600BS digital media receiver has everything you're looking for in a car stereo. You can crank up some music from your iPhone®, iPod®, or select Android™ phones, play FLAC files from a USB thumb drive, or tune into Spotify® to enjoy your favorite playlists. You also get built-in Bluetooth®, Siri Eyes Free functionality, and a powerful built-in amplifier. Plus, you can also check out the news or a ballgame on good old-fashioned AM/FM radio, or connect a SiriusXM tuner.

Built-in Bluetooth™ and more

The MVH-S600BS features built-in Bluetooth, so you can enjoy hands-free calling and wireless music streaming on the road. The included external microphone picks up your conversation, and you'll hear your caller through your vehicle's speakers. Wide Band Speech Technology ensures clear and easy-to-understand conversations.

The dual phone connection lets you pair two phones, while “Guest Mode" allows you to add or replace a mobile device with ease. That's a great feature for a family car with multiple drivers, or one driver with multiple devices.

iPhone-friendly

With iPod and iPhone Direct Control, you can plug your device into this big Pioneer's USB port and make music selections through the receiver. As a bonus, the 1.5-amp USB quick charger will keep your device powered up while you're rockin' down the highway. If you own a compatible iPhone, you can take advantage of Siri® Eyes Free functionality with a touch of a button, accessing a variety of functions with your voice commands.

Android's all right, too

All Android users can control their music via Bluetooth, or plug into the front panel USB port and play music while getting a charge. If you own a newer Android phone, you'll be glad to hear that the MVH-X690BS supports Android Open Accessory 2.0, so you can use your USB port to stream music from Android 4.1 (or later) devices. You can also plug in a thumb drive and enjoy MP3, WMA, AAC, FLAC, and WAV files, or use the aux input to connect an MP3 player or portable satellite radio.

If you're using an iPod, iPhone, or USB device, Pioneer's integrated MIXTRAX virtual DJ technology can turn your music collection into a non-stop playlist, complete with mix effects. And if you're a Pandora or Spotify fan, you can use your iPhone or Android phone to create unique stations that play nothing but your favorite kinds of music.

Get into SiriusXM

SiriusXM satellite radio offers an unparallelled selection of music, news, sports, and entertainment programming that you can enjoy wherever your travels take you. The MVH-S600BS is SiriusXM-ready®, so all you need is a subscription and a SiriusXM tuner to experience the awesomeness.

Your phone as a remote

Pioneer's new Advanced Remote Control feature allows you or your passengers to use a smartphone to control the music and other basic features on your Pioneer MVH-S600BS

And yes, it sounds great, too!

Pioneer's designers were able to fit lots of features into a short double-DIN chassis that will look great in a wide variety of cars and trucks. Pioneer's powerful amplifier gives you outstanding sound, while Advanced Sound Retriever (ASR) technology brings back the details lost when you compress music. A 13-band graphic equalizer lets you adjust the sound to suit your tastes, while three sets of RCA preamp outputs allow you to expand your system with amps and subs.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

This digital media receiver will not play CDs.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Overall a great radio. The only reason not 5 stars is you don't get text alerts through the radio on blue tooth unless your playing music on your phone. Was hoping to throw my phone in the console and forget it but I'll need to still prop it up to see I get something.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As stated, I purchased the Pioneer unit to replace a "buggy" Factory radio in my 2003 Jetta. All I can say (over and over) is WOW! I never realized how deficient the factory head unit was until hearing a quality unit like this Pioneer. In addition, Volkswagen actually installed a really nice factory speaker package with a passive crossover. This provides for remote (A pillar mounted) tweeters and woofers in the front doors and full range speakers in the rear doors. Once the head unit was setup, the clarity, power, and sound quality of the Pioneer was revealed! I am a listener who enjoys full, rich frequency across the whole spectrum, but especially excellent response below 80Hz, and this package (Pioneer and VW speakers) delivers! It truly sounds as though there is a moderately powered subwoofer under the front seats, but rest assured that it is all coming from the doors! The service of Crutchfield is legendary and the pricing is spot-on and is now even better with the availability of the pre-wired radio harness (which I used)!. You cannot go wrong with Crutchfield and Pioneer!

Pros: Unbeatable adjustability Low THD across the spectrum Deceivingly powerful at 25W RMS Easy fit using the Crutchfield Installation gear Excellent FM radio reception

Cons: Menu driven features, but I'll get used to it!

Works great, sync via BLE and Spotify is seamless. Like the available colors, also the dim by time to reduce the brightness at nighttime. All the buttons are well laid out and easy to find by touch alone. Display is really clear, almost like a mirror in the daytime.

Pros: Button layout, connectivity, display color options

Cons: Mirror like finish on the display will reflect your hand in daylight, making it hard to read.

    2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So glad I got this. Crutchfield's services are outstanding. It only took 30 minutes to install...or would have if I wouldn't have been feeding a toddler simultaneously. It took about 90 mins, most of which was spent getting the plastic side brackets of the insert to stay put while inserting the stereo. I got the pre-wired factory specific harness adapter. Amazing! After getting everything buttoned back up, I turned it on and my previously installed aftermarket speakers (also purchased from Crutchfield because these guys are the best) absolutely came to life! Being an audiophile, this was music to my ears. Ha. I even scrolled through the fm channels and was surprised at how many more stations I picked up and how clear they were. Do yourself a HUGE favor and download Pioneer's ARC app onto your phone before attempting to navigate the stereo's user interface to adjust stuff. The app very clearly let's you do all the necessary tweaking. I certainly wish I would have known that before doing it the hard way. The only reason I bought an aftermarket radio is because I was tired of being frustrated with the absolute garbage call quality from my $25 Bluetooth dongle from Amazon. Don't know why I didn't do this sooner!

Pros: Makes your speakers sound better. Outstanding Bluetooth call quality. Pioneer ARC app lets you control all stereo settings from your phone.

Cons: Archaic, typical after market stereo user interface, granted it only cost $109.

    Godd product and value

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great product. Takes a while to navigate the menu for some simple operations I'm sure I will get better at it over time. Bluetooth works great and mic does a great job at voice pickup and transmission. The display is kinda hard to read in the middle of the day. Needs to have a brighter setting. Overall very satisfied.

Pros: Bluetooth calling clarity interface with cell phone Phone APP

Cons: Screen brightness Multiple menus to get to simple controls

    Well worth every penny.

    1998 Ford F-150
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I live in the mountains at the edge of FM radio reception. Crutchfield recommended Pioneer as having superior reception. I decided on this unit as it had all the features I wanted. I can clearly pick up stations that previously were mostly static. Installation was a breeze, especially with the included Metra wiring harness. I used Posi-Twist connectors to tie the harnesses to the unit (item #669PP500. I had to do a fair amount of trimming to my subdash to get it to fit but I knew this would be needed. This only came with an installation sheet but Pioneer has a manual on their web site. Not needed for installation but required for figuring out the menus. Bluetooth setup was a snap. Linked right up with both my Samsung Android and iPhone and calls are clear and audible from both ends. Having trouble getting it to access my contacts, though. The Display is only decent. It is a bit dim and low-res bet there are plenty of options. Thumb drive playback is good even if the folder navigation is a bit clunky. No playback by Playlist or Artist via USB, only available for streaming. The sound from this is amazing. There are plenty of options for the EQ (5 presets + 2 cust). You can manually adjust fade/balance, crossover, and timing or use 'Position' presets. This was easily worth the money and I would recommend it.

Pros: Excellent sound, great radio reception, tons of options.

Cons: No manual included, dim/low-res display, no Playlist/Artist playback from USB.

Wow, what a great experience! I was apprehensive at first when I started, but Crutchfield made the entire radio installation process a breeze. With their support, I was able to find the right radio for my vehicle. They included complete and detailed instructions on how to install it in my car. And the pre-wired wiring harness worked perfectly. I completed the entire project in less that an hour. Everything worked exactly as expected. I will most certainly buy from them again.

Pros: Support, Detailed directions specific to my vehicle

    Cons: None

This is my second pioneer radio and they both very nice the only thing I wish this radio had was more settings with the sub and tuning your speakers to your preference. But Crutchfield is probably the best place to buy a car radio just make sure you do your research and you won't regret it. The service they offer you won't find anywhere else I would highly recommend Crutchfield but this radio in particular is good but not the absolute best but still very nice

    Pros: Sounds good Sub outputs

Cons: Bigger than your normal aftermarket radio which takes up a little slot that you can put your phone

This system works very well. It has really caused me to enjoy radio more in my truck but now I can listen to pandora, usb store music etc. The phone works great through this system with the microphone in the top left of the windshield. My Nissan Frontier did not have a good radio, cd system at all. I didn't know if this unit would make my stock speakers come alive but it did. I am very, very satisfied.

So far I'm completely happy with this unit. The controls are easy to get used to and being a music junkie, I am happy that I no longer have to carry around CD's.The Sirius radio runs seamlessly. Only negative is the display is a little too retro and gives it a cheap appearance. Well worth the price.

Pros: The price and it overs all the bases as fars as inputs and sound is full and clear.

Cons: The display kind of bugs me but I will get used to it.

Easy to install and works like it is supposed to. My beef is that it is too complicated to operate. I may just be an old guy, but I need to have the instructions on my truck just to do basic things, like get to the radio and other devices. I wanted simple and this is just too confusing until you use it for a while continuously

Pros: easy to install, lots of customizations abailable

Cons: Unless you have the 68 pages of imstructions downloaded and use it every day, good luck just turning the radio on

Crutchfield response on 10/1/2018 : Stan, we're sorry you're frustrated with your new receiver. If you'd like some help, please contact our Tech Support team. Great head unit. Very easy install with the installation gear Crutchfield included. The steering wheel controls work perfectly and the audio sounds awesome. The menu is easy to navigate as well. I mostly use Bluetooth to stream my music and the range and signal are both better than stock and previous Pioneer units I've owned.

Pros: Easy to hook up Adjustable colors Steering wheel controls (with extra hardware) Good signal strength for Bluetooth

Cons: Included wiring harness did not account for the steering wheel controls, so I had to splice into the OEM wires.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2005 Toyota Sienna which had the stock stereo head unit and a blown speaker on the front door panel. Crutchfield's help was instrumental. This Pioneer unit fit perfectly when used with the mounting hardware and wiring harness. All steering wheel controls work perfectly and the stereo sounds great. Most importantly, we now have Bluetooth for both voice and music. There are a lot of things that need to come together for a retrofit like this and Crutchfield made is extremely easy because the website puts together everything necessary for the specific car. Furthermore, I confirmed the full order via phone call.

Pros: Perfect car specific Installation which kept all steering wheel control functions. Great sound. Great installation instructions specific to my car. Great support for purchase and install from Crutchfield.

Great unit. Since it doesn't play discs, the unit is shallow enough to leave plenty of room for the wiring harness. Unfortunately, my box came with a "quick start guide" only, instead of an actual "owners manual". I was able to download the pdf from the page to get started on figuring out all the settings. Almost have it "dialed in" as far as the audio settings go, and couldn't be more pleased with the quality of Pioneer!

Pros: Easy Install w/ Crutchfield's instructions and wiring harness. Great features for the price. Sound is great with Kicker 6 1/2" 2-ways and Infinity 200 watt powered Sub.

Cons: Didn't come with an owners manual, only a quick start sheet that covered wiring, and the warranty card. All other hardware, remote unit, and mic were in the box.

Looks great in the center stack, like it belongs there.

It's a really nice head unit. Easy, quick installation. I like the color variations and the scrolling text of albums and songs. Still exploring all the features. So far I really like it. Only one gripe, can't turn it off, I'm use to turning off the stereo before I turn the car off.

    Pros: Easy and quick installation

    Cons: Can't turn it off.

So far I have been extremely pleased with this unit. I mainly use Bluetooth connectivity for all of my listening pleasures and that's a breeze now. Setting up your phone is quick and it automatically connects each time you turn the power on after that. I don't really have any complaints as far as function goes. It serves it's purpose well and provides a plethora of connection options to modern devices.

Pros: Great sound and customization features.

Cons: The display screen is very low resolution.

I went with the Crutchfield ready harness service witch made the install so easy. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced an older single din in my 96 Chevy 4 door Tahoe. IMO, single DIN sucks for a fat fingered guy like me, and being able to use the newer Metra bezels (provided free, along with all other necessary first time install pieces according to vehicle from Crutchfield) allowing to me to not only update to a newer unit, but also add double din to my OEM DIN 1.5 in the 96 Chevy. INSTALL NOTE: test fit the head unit before cutting the hole as big as is told in the instructions- this is a Metra deal. This head unit needed a slightly smaller bezel trim than instructed to in Metra instructions. The MVH-S600BS was clearly faster and more refined when hard connecting the Iphone. Also, this head unit needed NO TRIMMING inside the dash itself, thanks, Pioneer for the short chassis! Did I say the feature set and firmware was a lot better than my 2012 Pioneer? So far, so good, no glitches, love this unit. -PLEASE AMPLIFY YOUR SPEAKERS AS NECESSARY- 14 watts RMS, which is average, is not much fr better speaker replacements. -Using this head unit with Alpine MRP-F40 4ch amp (40watts RMS), rear door Polk db652's, and DB 6502 components in front doors. Perfect for me!

    Pros: Works

    Cons: Had to install it.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really like this Pioneer radio. I used it to replace a stock radio in my Toyota Tacoma. Even using the same speakers, the sound was way better. So many ways to enhance the sound to my liking. I will admit, it is more radio than I'm used to. I definitely had to use the manual to figure out what various terms (e.g., crossover, position, etc.) were about. Love the digital interface and how it rolls through different colors. Really cool. Haven't tried the bluetooth yet but that's next. Very easy to install with the easy harness from Crutchfield. Some great install "how to's" on Youtube. Highly recommend this radio.

Pros: Great sound with lots of options. Awesome screen size and illumination colors.

Cons: All the options can take some effort to understand.

Looks nice. I switched to red only background. Hopefully I will learn how to adjust the fade to optimize driver's sound only some day. Too many multi dial settings and smartphone applications for a 76 year old who does not like smart phones anyhow. But, sadly my 1996 CD/cassette player radio died so now I have to pay for Sirius to have decent music. At least I'm not fiddling with CD's and cassettes anymore.

Pros: Seems to have every feature a techie would want.

Cons: Adjustments are too complicated for the non tech average listener. I don't want to attempt adjustments while driving.

Love this thing, I chose this one over the higher ones in this series because I honestly don't need a CD player, I don't even own any CDs. And this looks way cleaner without the slot. Works as you'd expect, the eq tuning is pretty simple to get a good sound out of. I know this doesn't have any bearing the actual headunit but the ARC app for mobile is absolute trash, doesn't pair or play, at least for Android.

I love it! It fits great in my truck and works great with the factory sub and steering wheel controls, it actually works just the way I want with the steering wheel controls how it cycles through preset stations. I'm tweaking the EQ still but it still sounds great and the high and low pass filters keep the speakers from buzzing when I turn it up. The ARC App makes adjusting everything easier when it's connected to your phone. The microphone for hands free calling also works great and it makes my 2006 F-150 Lariat updated to Bluetooth and hand free calling. I don't need a CD player as all my music is digital now. Crutchfield is simply the very best. They have perfected the installation of aftermarket automobile sound systems for us do-it-yourselfers. Their staff, is skilled and very product knowledgable. I dealt with Artie and he couldn't have been better. And now the Pioneer MVH-S600BS.. Great unit for my needs, a nice clear display, intuitive menus and buttons and flawless performance. For me the Bluetooth connectivity was paramount and this unit delivers. It seamlessly connects with my iPhone and provides all my sonic needs, music, phone, podcasts, etc. The radio, least we forget the radio, is very impressive with excellent sensitivity. The overall sound quality especially when paired with the Rockford Fosgate Prime R169X2 and the R1525X2 speakers is wonderful, certainly in a Tacoma cab. The final installation really looks sharp, the fit and finish is on par with the original factory install. The wiring and installation was as effortless as can be made possible. It helped that I bought the additional installation "tool kit" which made removing door and dash panels doable without breaking the little plastic clips and tabs that hold the interior together. Bottom line, I am very impressed with all of the products and their performance and value. I had put off updating my truck stereo for a long time because I dreaded the job and cost, but what a pleasant surprise on both issues. I forgot to mention that I used for the Crutchfield Readyharness Service, it made installation a breeze.

    Serious Upgrade from Stock

Mr. B from Long Island, NY on 6/9/2018

    2007 Dodge Charger
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in 2007 Dodge Charger w/ the 6 speaker BA setup. I upgraded the speakers years ago and thought that was a great improvement. I used to connect my phone to the Aux of the OEM unit to utilize BT, and play music either through apps or playlists on the phone. The aux connection became loose and driving over bumps or moving the phone would dislodge the connection and the music playing would stop or reset and became very annoying. At first I ordered a single din unit (any upgrade would have been better than the OEM HU at this point) but after seeing how it would fit, a double din would look more OEM than the single as there was a lot of empty space to fill. I returned the single din and ordered a double din. I have to say, welcome to the 21st century Mr. B. Mind you, I did a lot of research regarding this and the installation. I wound up tapping fuse 18 in the rear with an in line fuse adapter and brought the line up front to retain accessory power (RAP) and bypassed the amp for a better sound. The amp for this system is completely under-powered and would not get the full benefit of this HU if I chose to use it. As soon as I powered her on and connected the BT, my daughter called and could hear me great, I set the mic just above the steering column. After tweaking the HU, sound is much clearer and stronger with the speakers. To truly utilize this HU I'm going to add an amp and Subwoofer next. Btw, could see it perfectly fine during day.

Pros: Utilizing today's features like BT, playing apps from phone, usb files for music, adding a SW and amp. Complete overhaul over OEM.

Cons: Because of the way the car uses Canbus through amp you need to totally bypass it and does take some time to install correctly. Once done there really are no cons.

Terrific stereo for the money. Easy install. Difficult to adjust fader, balance, EQ while driving. Overall very happy with this unit, in my 2005 Mustang.

Pros: Great sound. Looks good in the dash. Crutchfied kit was perfect.

Cons: Menu not intuitive. Hard to adjust while driving. Other than volume.

I read many many reviews about this radio before purchasing and almost every review was positive. I must agree with them This unit is really terrific. The display is bright even on bright sunny days and is dimmable for night driving.. Station reception is great, bluetooth is fantastic. The only weak link I can find is possibly the EQ settings and it could be the fact that my speakers are not the best quality. The speakers are factory stock Chevy speakers in a Silverado. The bass sounds a little boxy but otherwise I love this unit. Hope to change speakers soon and see if it helps the boxy sound.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

IF everything worked as it should, it would certainly rate five stars but it doesn't live up to it. To begin with, I can't make Bluetooth calls on it, no sound whatsoever comes through the stereo. Tried calling customer support with no luck and countless hours reviewing instructions with no luck. Tried on both an iPhone and Android with the same results so I know it isn't in the phone. I have an iPhone 8 Plus. You should be able to switch back and forth between and Android and iPhone but that definitely is not the case. After setting up an Android on Bluetooth I had to do a hard reset for it to communicate with my iPhone again. Music does sound good, but not being able to access all of the features makes me wish I would have gone with a different model that works as described. And no, after taking the time to get the wiring harness together and installing the stereo, I have no desire to start all over with it again is the only reason I am not returning it.

Pros: -Good sound -Can adjust lighting to whatever color you desire -Fits in dash without cutting

Cons: -Phone does not connect as it should -Does not switch seamlessly on Bluetooth between phones

Easy to install. Crutchfield provides everything you need to install the kit for your particular vehicle. My install was a 1997 Buick Riviera and required removing the instrument panel. The whole install project was accomplishedin approx. 3 hrs. I had help from a friend. Neither of us are car audio installers. It's nice to be hands free in the new century!

Pros: Crutchfield provides all you need. Great products include audio unit, wiring harness, and antenna adapter. It helped that I also found an instructional video on youtube.com . Here is the link: https://youtu.be/-gSXIQupQ1k

Cons: I had to remove several things, including the dashboard instrument panel, but that is not Crutchfield's fault.

So far so good. Connects well to my Android, and the Bluetooth mic works well (though someone said the mic was built into the receiver, which it's not - there is a mic attached to a long wire). There is a volume memory for each different setting - music, phone call, etc. - which is great. I don't get blasted with music after getting off a phone call that I had to turn the volume up for.

Very easy install. Impressed with how Crutchfield included all the needed installation material/adapters, wiring harnesses, etc. In addition, the several pages of instructions were very helpful. Only ran into one challenge...with the Axxess steering wheel controls adapter. The adapter said to tap it into the #18 Pin on the harness plug, but eh aftermarket harness pug didn't have a connector in the #18 slot. I improvised, and found the wire going into the #18 spot on the car harness, and cut and wired that into the steering controls adapter. Worked like a champ. I haven't put in a car stereo in 20+ years, but had this one installed, programmed and working in under 2 hours with the provided instructions. The Axxess steering controls adapter auto-programmed as advertised within minutes of powering up.

Pros: Easy to install. Great price. Easy to program.

An excellent system at a very affordable price!Being an overnight driver, I am particularly interested in AM reception for long distance "dx'ING. Most of the inexpensive radios on the market today suffer in the AM portion of the radio, because it is an "afterthought; most folks are interested in great sound (understandably so) and FM reception. Well, let me tell you, this radio does it all. I am able to pull in overnight AM, 1000's of miles away, and the FM quality, as well as the aux is outstanding. Bluetooth pairs up with no issues and holds rock solid. I am one satisfied customer!!!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this unit to maintain a "shock" looking dashboard, thus disparaging would-be thieves, while not sacrificing the features found on today's more advanced touchscreen units. The sound is clear and precise thought the range. As noted in previous posts, the initial set up is challenging and some of the lower rated reviews may have been attributed to improper set up. My favorite feature is the ARC App interface via iPhone/Android which can control EVER aspect of the unit and it's output. Call quality is great with the provided mic. The Siri integration is pretty strait forward, from initiating phone calls, using Waze, or just bring up a songs from your music library. This can do everything that any new car system can do (with the exception of course of not having graphic interface as with a LCD screen). The buttons allow you to have directing input and there's even a "back" button. The dot matrix screen gives you all the info you want like who is calling, what song your listening to and you can choose what information is displayed, even just a clock. If you can forgo not listening to CDs, then this is the unit to buy.

Pros: iPhone Integration with Siri and the ARC App

Cons: Initial set up and sync is trying.

Very nice basic radio. It lacks CD/DVD player and the LCD display resolution is a bit basic, but hey, for this little $ I'm not complaining, as the sound is really nice out of that one! A good plus is the bluetooth microphone built into the unit (no need for additional wires) and it actually works quite nicely. This unit is NOT touchscreen - it has buttons (though small) and the knob and wiring uses just one harness you should be getting from Crutchfield. No rocket science there, don't get ripped.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice unit overall. Dash install kit (for 2004 Corolla) did not include proper screws for putting together. Had to improvise but installed nicely otherwise. Sound is good. Phone (iPhone and Android) integration with front panel very good. Receiver reception very good. Pop in a USB stick with mp3's and you can easily manage tracks and folders from front panel. Setup menu is a bit confusing, and accessing audio menus to adjust equalizer, bass, loudness overly complex. Menu's are controlled by volume button, and once in the menu you have to back out before adjusting volume. If you have volume high when using BT for phone (where phone's volume may be set low) and switch to radio, you will get blasted with sound (some units have a volume "memory" for each mode). A bit of an enigma. Bought to make easy use of answering phone while driving, and ability to use front panel controls for listening to music/podcasts (which it does well) but unintuitive menu makes temptation of distracted driving likely for some. Probably no worse than competing units but keeps me from giving it a higher rating.

Pros: Phone and USB integration with front panel. Reception.

    Cons: Overly complex menu.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in a 2004 Tahoe. Outstanding inexpensive radio. Installation is simple since it goes in without having to cut or trim anything. Installation was shallow enough that i installed a Pioneer GM series amplifier behind the radio. This radio BT connection is simple and easy, phone calls quick and clear. Installed the included microphone routing to the Sunvisor to ensure it would pick up my voice with minimal interference with other noise. So far its is very clear. Radio reception is outstanding. It picks up many stations my factory radio wouldn't. With the available color options i was able to make it look like a factory radio. Would purchase again.

Pros: Easy to install and set up

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Over all ok unit. Very similar to most others. Wish they had simpler audio adjustments (bass & trebles knobs) so I don't have to go into menus to make small adjustments while driving. Bluetooth works well. Answering phone calls is easy with a well placed button.

Pros: Bluetooth phone use. Seems clear.

Cons: Must enter menus to make small adjustments to audio. Very distracting/time consuming to just increase or decrease bass depending on music selection.

Ok unit, loves dust, prone to scratching.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Unit has a lot to like but is far from without fault. It's my first double din and I'm not impressed with much past its aesthetics. Had it for a few months now.

Pros: -Aesthetics. -Lots of options for display. -Good quality signal sent to speakers. -Has been reliable. -(Kind of stuff you just expect to get from any unit, really)

Cons: -Seems to keep a static charge which sucks dust to the screen like a vacuum. -Screen will scratch immediately upon any efforts to clean the screen, which will be frequent! -Bluetooth connecting speed is extremely slow. -------Honestly this is intolerable. -Won't auto connect and auto play Bluetooth reliably, if at all. -Its missing an auxiliary/bass button. You need to go through settings for something that should be at a button press!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's a great stereo. But with one big problem..... Did they really test this thing for usability? If you don't have steering wheel controls, the tactile feel of the buttons is very poor. If you want to keep your eyes on the road, it's hard to feel the phone button with your fingers. Want to fast forward a song? Forget about doing it unless you don't mind taking your eyes of the road (I'd rather keep eyes on the road, thanks). Even finding the larger src button can be tough by feel. I'm going to end up putting on some form of sticky buttons myself, which will make it look really hokey-ish (ironic given my comment below), but at least will be less frustrating. Again, great stereo, but it looks like slick form aesthetics have been chosen over a more functional tactile feel. With just a tiny amount of thought and testing this would be 5 stars all the way. 2 stars as the fault is so blindingly obvious once you use it and a safety issue IMHO.

Pros: great quality, functionalities offered, reliable

    Cons: bad tactile button design!

I was looking for a double DIN head unit for my Accord that wasn't touchscreen and had Bluetooth features (music streaming and calling) and wasn't really expensive. When I saw the price I had doubts about how good this unit would be but I knew Crutchfield stands behind their products and has awesome customer service so I ordered it. I have not been disappointed with this product at all, it has an amazing set of features for the price and doesn't include the things I don't need like HD radio and CD player. Great unit for today's youth. All a unit needs is aux, usb and bluetooth. No need for CD/DVD. Put this is my daughter's school car. Screen is not too small but not overly large so the manufactuer can't put all kinds of flashing things on it. Not touch screen but that's ok and not too many buttons. Simple classy look. You can still set your own color scheme. Nice price as well.

Pros: Clean classy look with nice size screen

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've waited for quite a while for a double-din headunit to fit in my Buick, which has a very shallow stereo mounting depth. This unit is replacing a Pioneer single-din digital media receiver. Install took about 30 minutes and went very smooth. As soon as I turned the key on my Axxess ASWC-1 recognized the stereo and programmed itself. The display and layout look nice, not cluttered like some other manufactures units. Bluetooth works flawlessly and connects every time that I get in my car. The controls take some getting used to but aren't too confusing. The kicker for me is that the stereo will play flac files, which is what makes up my entire music library. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking for a feature-packed headunit at a great price.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 4.0: The MVH-S600BS is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 4.0, allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles -

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.3 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Pioneer MVH-S600BS.

Multi-Device Pairing w/ Dual Phone Connection: Up to five Bluetooth-compatible devices can be paired to this receiver. You are even able to keep two Bluetooth-enabled phones connected at the same time, so you can make and receive calls from either phone through the head unit. You can only stream music from one phone at a time; you will be able switch between the two phones in the head unit's menu. Additional pairing features include -

    • SSP (Simple Secure Pairing: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the MVH-S600BS without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings (your phone must also support SSP).
    • USB Pairing for iPhone: You can also pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+) by simply connecting it to the Pioneer head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.
    • Guest Mode: "Guest Mode" allows you to add and replace a 5th mobile device instantly to the receiver; Guest Mode is a great feature for a family vehicle with multiple drivers or a driver with multiple devices because it allows users to pair and delete devices easily without a lengthy registration or deletion process.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The MVH-S600BS supports wireless hands-free communication (HFP/PBAB) for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. And, thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the MVH-S600BS provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The MVH-S600BS allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the head unit's external microphone and your car audio speakers. During a conversation you can adjust the volume, as well as switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering A Call: During an incoming call, the head unit will display the caller's information and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker. You can manually answer an incoming call or have the unit automatically answer the call.
    • Making A Call: Using the MVH-S600BS, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways -
      • Phone Book: The phone book in your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone will be transferred automatically when the phone is paired to this unit. After finding the number you want to call in the phone book from the head unit, you can select the entry and make the call. If a lot of numbers are registered in the phone book, you can search for a phone number by the contact person's name alphabetically.
      • Presets: You can easily store up to six phone numbers as presets for speed dialing.
      • Call Log: The most recent calls dialed, received, and missed are stored in memory. You can browse them and call numbers from these lists.
      • Voice Dialing (Siri): When paired and connected with an iPhone 4S or later via Bluetooth, the Pioneer head unit has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. You'll be able to dial a phone number or contact via voice command.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Pioneer MVH-S600BS also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The head unit can stream music stored on your Bluetooth enabled device or music apps you have downloaded on your device. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call.

    • Music Control: In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the MVH-S600BS lets you browse your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, etc. (AVRCP 1.4 phones only; which includes Android 4.0+ and iPhone 5.0+).
    • Song/Artist Info: The head unit will also display song/album/artist information from your Bluetooth device's stored music and select music apps on your device.

Siri Eyes-Free Control: When paired and connected to an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth, the Pioneer MVH-S600BS has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. Simply press and hold head unit's phone key to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the MVH-S600BS and its microphone. You can even ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Siri. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

Note: The head unit's front-panel LCD will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the Pioneer digital media receiver; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device)..

    Android & iPhone Integration

Android Direct Connect via USB: The Pioneer MVH-S600BS enables playback of stored music and music apps on select Android devices through its front-panel USB port. There are two types of modes to choose from based on your type of Android smartphone and what content you want to listen to.

    • AOA 2.0 (w/ Pioneer ARC App): The Pioneer MVH-S600BS supports Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0), which lets you connect your Android smartphone (OS 4.1-7.1.2) to the MVH-S600BS's front-panel USB port and listen to stored music and select music apps from your Android device through the Pioneer receiver. You'll be able to control basic playback functions such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track. By downloading the Pioneer ARC App, you also be able to view song/artist information and browse your Android smartphone's music library from the head unit's front-panel controls. You can browse your stored music library by Playlist, Artist, Song, Album, or Genre. You'll also still be able to access other functions and applications from your Android smartphone's touchscreen, while listening to music through the head unit. If you make a call or answer a call from your smartphone while listening to music in this mode, the music will pause until you are finished with the call and then start back up again.
    • MTP (Media Transfer Protocol): The MVH-S600BS also supports MTP for playback & control of stored MP3/WMA music files on your Android (OS 4.0+) device through the Pioneer receiver's front-panel USB port. In this mode, you get basic playback control (like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track), plus song/artist information on the receiver's LCD screen. During MTP connection, you cannot use your Android smartphone's touchscreen to control music playback and you cannot select music apps from your smartphone for playback. However, you can continue to listen to stored music on your Android smartphone through the head unit while you check your Calendar, Facebook, Texts, etc on your phone.
Note: Not all Android devices are compatible with AOA 2.0 or MTP, regardless of operating system.

iPod/iPhone Direct Connect via USB: The Pioneer MVH-S600BS supports audio playback of stored music & music apps on your Apple iPod/iPhone (with Lightning connector), along with control and song/artist information display through its front-panel USB port. You'll need an Apple Certified Lightning-to-USB cable to make connection. From the head unit, you can browse your iPhone's or iPod touch's music library by Artist, Album, Song, Genre, Playlist, Composer, Podcast, or Audiobook (make sure the Pioneer ARC App is installed and open on your Apple device). Once you have selected a category, you can search each category alphabetically. You can also choose to control music playback from your Apple iPhone's touchscreen. The iPod nano only offers basic control (Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track) from the head unit and its touchscreen controls will be locked during connection.

Mobile Device Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1.5A of current to power and charge your connected Android smartphone or Apple iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position (if your mobile device has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it).

USB Auto Function: The receiver's "USB Auto" function can be set to ON to enable the head unit to automatically switch to the USB source for playback when a USB-enabled device is connected. If set to OFF, the receiver will not switch sources and simply charge the connected USB device.

Pandora Internet Radio: The free Pandora App lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the Pioneer MVH-S600BS using your USB or Bluetooth connected Apple iPhone (iOS 10.0+) device, or Bluetooth connected Android (OS 4.0+) smartphone. Your iPhone or Android smartphone will also need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, LTE (4G), EDGE, or WiFi. The MVH-S600BS provides control over the Pandora music service and displays Artist, Album, and Song information.

    • Station List w/ Shuffle: You can select Pandora stations from your Station List by date or alphabetically (A-Z). You can also listen to songs played randomly from various stations within your Station List.
    • New Stations + Delete: New stations can be created based on the current songs or artists playing. You can also delete a station from your Pandora station list.
    • Skip Songs: You can skip song tracks within a station. You cannot skip back to a previous song. Pandora limits the number of skips allowed.
    • Thumbs Up/Down: You can give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down to help Pandora personalize stations to suit your preferences.
    • Bookmarking: The song/artist currently being played can be bookmarked & stored in your Pandora account.

Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada & only available in the United States.

Spotify Online Music Service: The Pioneer MVH-S600BS has the ability to playback & control content from the Spotify music app on your USB or Bluetooth connected iPhone (iOS 10.0+) device, or Bluetooth-paired Android (OS 4.0) smartphone. You can play, pause and skip tracks, browse playlists, albums and radio stations through the Pioneer receiver's front-panel controls. You also get song/artist information on the unit's front-panel LCD. Access to the Spotify service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or Android device to connect to the Internet. If you are a Spotify Premium user (requires a monthly paid subscription), you can enjoy ad-free, high quality music even when there is no internet connection.

SiriusXM Ready: The Pioneer digital media receiver is SiriusXM 3.0 Ready, so you can listen to commercial-free music, all your favorite sports, exclusive talk and entertainment, comedy, news, traffic, weather, and more. Simply connect the SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner (20SXV300, sold separately) to the dedicated SiriusXM port on the rear of the head unit and enjoy satellite radio without additional translators or cables. Additional features include:

    • Song/Artist Information: Displayed Information such as Channel Name, Artist Name, & Song Title can be viewed on the head unit's LCD.
    • Replay: The Replay function lets you pause, rewind, and replay up to 60 minutes of live content from the station that you are currently listening to.
    • Presets: You can store up to 18 SiriusXM Satellite Radio Station Presets with special tuning features.
      • TuneStart: TuneStart automatically start songs from the beginning when you tune to one of your preset music channels stored on the current band of presets.
      • TuneScan: TuneScan lets you scan through short previews of songs you may have missed on music channels stored on the current band of presets.
      • TuneMix: Create a music channel that's a blend of songs made up from the music channels stored on the current band of presets.
    • Parental Control: The SiriusXM Parental Control feature allows you to control access to channels that you consider inappropriate for younger listeners. When enabled, The Parental Control feature requires you to enter a 4-digit passcode to tune to the locked channels.
Note: A separate SiriusXM Satellite Radio subscription is required (operates on the XM Network). However, you can easily add this SiriusXM tuner to an existing Sirius or XM account for a Multi-Radio Discount Plan.

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

    • RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.
    • BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.
    • Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 levels of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

    USB/Aux Playback

USB MSC Playback: In addition to Apple and Android device connectivity, the digital media receiver's front-panel USB-A 2.0 port allows you to connect a USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) device, such as a USB thumbdrive (up to 32GB). The USB port enables audio playback & control of MP3, WMA, AAC, FLAC, and WAV audio files stored on your portable USB MSC device through the Pioneer MVH-S600BS. Basic playback controls included Play/Pause, FW/RW, Previous/Next Track, and Random/Repeat. Song/artist information such as track, artist, and album name will also be displayed on the head unit.

Audio File Compatibility: The Pioneer MVH-S600BS supports the following types of MP3, WMA, AAC, & WAV files loaded onto a USB MSC device.

    Media Type USB (AOA/MTP/MSC)

File/Track Name List: The Name List feature displays a list of MP3/WMA/AAC/WAV albums and tracks on a connected USB device (plus FLAC files for USB only), so you can easily access your music. Music files are listed first by Artist name, then by Album name, and finally by Song title.

Song/Artist Information: During MP3/WMA/AAC/FLAC playback, the unit displays any recorded ID3 Tag (ver. 1.x/2.x) and WMA/AAC Tag information; including artist, song, and album name.

Playback Controls: The Pioneer digital media receiver provides basic operations like Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Rewind, Previous/Next Track, and Repeat/Random for USB device playback.

Auxiliary Input: The MVH-S600BS is equipped with a front-panel 3.5mm stereo minijack auxiliary input for connecting external audio sources, such as a portable digital audio player.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Pioneer in-dash head unit utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The MVH-S600BS is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels
Note: The power specifications for the MVH-S600BS are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

4V/6CH Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The Pioneer MVH-S600BS features three pair of 4.0-volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The unit's front and rear preamp output can be faded (front/rear), while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The Pioneer MVH-S600BS lets you adjust the subwoofer preamp output's phase (normal/reverse) and volume (+10 to -24).

Crossovers: The MVH-S600BS employs high-pass and low-pass crossovers to tailor the head unit to your connected speaker setup.

    • Standard: Allows you to set the high-pass and low-pass crossover network for a standard Front, Rear, and Subwoofer speaker setup using either speaker-level or low-level outputs.
      • HPF: The head unit's -6, -12, -18, or -24dB/octave high pass filter only allows frequencies higher than those in the selected range (25, 31.5, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200, or 220Hz) to your front and rear speakers through the unit's speaker-level or line-level outputs.
      • LPF: The subwoofer preamp output features an -6, 12, -18, -24, -30, or -36dB/octave low pass filter so only frequencies lower than those in the selected range (25, 31.5, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200, or 220Hz) are output to your connected subwoofer.
    • Network: Allows you to set the high-pass and low-pass crossover network for a complex 3-way speaker system with Highs, Mids, and Sub using low-level outputs only.
      • Highs: The high-pass crossover for your tweeters can be set to 1.25, 1.6, 2, 2.5, 3.15, 4, 5, 6.3, 8, 10, or 12.5 kHz with a -6, -12, -18, or -24 dB/octave roll-off.
      • Mids: You can set a high-pass and low-pass crossover from your midrange/midbass drivers. The high-pass crossover can be set to 1.25, 1.6, 2, 2.5, 3.15, 4, 5, 6.3, 8, 10, or 12.5 kHz with a -6 to -36dB/octave roll-off. The low-pass crossover can be set to 25, 31.5, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200, or 250 Hz with a -6, -12, -18, or -24 dB/octave roll-off.
      • Lows: The low-pass crossover for your subwoofers can be set to 25, 31.5, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200, or 250 Hz with a -6 to --6, -12, -18, -24, -30, or -36dB/octave roll-off.

EEQ (Easy EQ) w/ 13-Band Graphic EQ: There are seven stored equalizer curves which you can easily recall at any time. You can choose from - Powerful, Natural, Vocal, Super Bass, Flat, Custom 1, or Custom 2. The Custom 1 and Custom 2 EQ modes allow you to manually adjust the level (+/- 12dB) of each band of the head unit's 13-band graphic equalizer (50, 80, 125, 200, 315, 500, 800, 1.25k, 2k, 3.15k, 5k, 8k, and 12.5k Hz).

Audio Settings: The head unit provides further sound adjustments for your car audio system.

    • Listening Position & Time Alignment: For a better sound-stage you can select your optimal listening position. You can choose from All, Front Left, Front Right, or Front. You can also select to manually fine tune the sound stage, using Digital Time Alignment (DTA) by selecting the distance (0-140") for each individual speaker in the vehicle compared to your listening position.
    • Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. When the Advanced Sound Retriever is on, the high frequency range is compensated to match the frequency response curve to the original sound. There are two available levels of the Advanced Sound Retriever effect.
    • D. Bass: Boosts the bas level dynamically to offer an effect as if a subwoofer was added to the system. D.Bass can be set to High, Low, or Off.
    • Loudness: The Loudness function compensates for deficiencies in the low- and high-frequency ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness to High, Mid, Low, or Off.
    • Speaker Level: You can adjust each speaker and sub channel independently from -24 to +10 to best even out the sound in your vehicle.
    • Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the unit's FM volume level, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4 dB to +4 dB.

Rear Speaker Setup: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

MIXTRAX: Drawing from Pioneer's rich DJ heritage and passion for music, MIXTRAX delivers a unique DJ infused listening experience to listeners in the car. MIXTRAX is an innovative Pioneer technology that creates a non-stop mix of your music library complete with a range of DJ-inspired effects. MIXTRAX takes your typical music listening experience and creates a non-stop mix of your music with 3 random DJ effects and transitions, by removing the breaks and pauses normally introduced between tracks and replacing them with various beats. MIXTRAX is compatible with USB-connected iPhone & USB MSC devices. There is also a Short Playback option which limits the amount of time each track plays; select from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 3 minutes.

Note: The MIXTRAX function is not compatible with Android or the Pandora app.

Beep Tone: A beep tone can be heard when a button is pressed on the head unit's front-panel to confirm operation. This feature can be turned On or Off.

    Remote & App Control

Advanced Remote Control App (for Apple iOS & Android): Download the Pioneer ARC (Advanced Remote Control) App onto your Apple iOS (8.0+) or Android (4.1+) device to turn your smartphone or tablet device into a remote control for the Pioneer head unit. Your Apple iOS or Android device can be connected via USB or Bluetooth. The following control features are available via the Pioneer Advanced Remote Control App.

    • Source Selection: From the app on your Apple iOS or Android device, you can select between the head unit's sources for playback. Choose AM/FM tuner, Aux, or the music library on your device.
    • Playback Functions: The app offers basic playback functions like Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, and Random/Repeat your mobile device's music library. You are also able to browse your Apple iOS or Android device's music library by Artist, Album, Song, Genre, or Playlist. For AM/FM tuner, you are able to seek stations, switch AM/FM bands, and select presets from the Pioneer ARC app.
    • Song/Artist Info + Album Art: The Pioneer Advanced Remote Control App provides song/artist information with album art for the music stored on your Apple iOS or Android device. You also get station identification for AM/FM radio; if an AM/FM station supports RDS, you will even get song/artist info.
    • Favorites: The app lets you quickly display radio stations saved as favorites, plus favorite songs in your Apple iOS or Android device's music library. From the Favorite screen, you also get access to contacts saved as "favorites" on your smartphone.
    • Select Apps: From the Pioneer ARC app, you can also pick from select music apps (like Pandora, iHeart, Spotify, TuneIn) that are installed on your Apple iOS or Android device. Once you select a specific music app, that particular music app opens on your mobile device for playback control.
Note: If you switch to other applications and functions, such as using other iOS device or Android applications or placing calls from your smartphone, you must restart the Pioneer ARC app on your iOS device or Android device.

Wireless Remote Control: The MVH-S600BS comes with an IR wireless remote control. The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause playback, skip music tracks, change display info, and answer/end Bluetooth phone call. You can also mute the volume (function that cannot be performed from the front panel).

Steering Wheel Control Input: The head unit features a 3.5mm steering wheel control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).

    Display Features

2-Line LCD: The Pioneer MVH-S600BS features a 2-line LCD screen with the choice of English, Spanish, or French text.

Color Customization: Color Customization lets the user match their receiver illumination to their vehicle's interior lighting. Over 210,000 colors are available to match the illumination of almost any car. The button illumination and display illumination colors can be customized separately for an endless number of color combinations. You can select from 12 preset colors, customize an illumination color (by adjusting Red/Blue/Green brightness levels), or scan through a variety of colors.

Brightness Control: You can manually adjust the brightness (1-10) of the head unit's display to suit your viewing needs. You can also sync the receiver's illumination to the head units' clock or your vehicle's headlights. To dim the receiver's display automatically when the vehicle's headlights are turned on, you'll need to hardwire the orange/white wire of the head unit's harness to your vehicle's parking light circuit.

MIXTRAX Illumination: MIXTRAX features a club-style illumination that enhances the mood with a dynamic dance club-like lighting effect. As MIXTRAX begins, lights start pulsing to the beat of the music, adding an extra level of entertainment. You can choose different patterns of lighting variations from sound pressure level or low-pass synchronization modes. The lighting effects work like a spectrum analyzer, reaching peak colors based on the intensity of the music.

Clock Display: Thanks to the receiver's 2-line LCD, the clock can be displayed along with source information. Pressing and holding the "SRC/OFF" button turns off the head unit's audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remains on (you can then press the "DISP" button to turn off all illumination).

Ordered a stereo last week for custom install in my 57 Chevy truck, it had to deep of a mounting depth and hit the wiper drive motor. Specs look good and Pioneer has a pretty good rep. I picked it over Kenwood only because it required less modification to fit my GM truck. I think the Kenwood edged it out just a bit but both are good units. [ Cameron  Nov 27, 2017 ]
It is the only double-din you had to fit a 2002 Buick. Also it has hands free calling and no cd player. The price is great and it is a good brand. I also like because it will fill all the space in my dash. [ Armando  Nov 24, 2017 ]
need to get up to date with blue tooth and connectivity to phones, this unit also received good reviews [ Kelly St  Nov 16, 2017 ]
I read the very detailed description provided on the website, then read the (at the time) 12 reviews. It has all the features I need and none that I do not. The price is incredible to me. I am 40 years old (yikes!) and haven't messed about with car audio in well over 20 years. I cannot believe how the prices for these head units has come down. I love the fact is has a big, old fashion volume knob square in the middle. It reminds me of vintage 1970's hi-fi gear. I also love the remote. [ Greg  Nov 04, 2017 ]

Your can select from a wide variety. Light blue, blue, red, pink, green, white. There may be others I just can't remember. We matched the color to the cars dash light. I have installed 3 Pioneers in the last 2 years. [ Teresa  Mar 08, 2018 ]
This receiver will work with a USB memory stick up to 32GB in size. We have not tested to see what happens when larger memory sticks are connected. I would imagine it would read up to 32GB of that memory or up to at total of 1,500 folders/15,000 files (which ever it reached first). Yes it does. [ Sherman  Jan 24, 2018 ]
You will have to order the appropriate adapter harness kit for your car and solder it to the included pioneer plug. Or you can pay crutchfield to do the wiring. The wiring is pretty common sense with the wires color coded and also has labeling on the wire. It does come with installation instructions but I don't believe it details the wiring. It does come with instructions which I found easy to follow. I have installed several units in the past. For my Toyota 4Runner, it was necessary to splice a harness to the existing wiring (I would imagine that would be the case for any vehicle). Not too difficult if you're familiar with that type of thing, however to my knowledge, Crutchfield does offer to pre wire the harness for a small fee. [ Zachary  Nov 07, 2017 ]
No, it does not. [ Dan  Oct 15, 2017 ]
No. It does not. [ Scott  Oct 13, 2017 ]
This receiver doesn't display temp, but it does about everything else. Good value and features for the money. I wasn't looking for that since the temp is displayed elsewhere on my vehicle. [ Phillip  Oct 13, 2017 ]
I do not believe that it does display the temperature. [ Kyle  Oct 13, 2017 ]
No this receiver will not display the temperature. [ Brandon  Oct 13, 2017 ]
No it does not display temperature. [ Sherman  Oct 13, 2017 ]
This head unit does not display temperature. [ Cody  Oct 13, 2017 ]
No, I don't think it has a way to receive a thermometer input. It's a fantastic receiver though- thorouyenjoy mine. [ Elizabeth  Oct 13, 2017 ]
No it does not. [ John  Oct 13, 2017 ]
The MVH-S600BS is only 3 7/8" deep and has 3 pair of 4 volt preamp outputs while the MVH- X690BS is 6 1/2" deep and has 3 pair of 2 volt preamp outputs. Because of limited mounting depth in my Buick, the MVH-S600BS fit perfectly, while the MVH-X690BS would not have fit. There may be other minor differences between the two, but nothing major that I can tell. [ ibzepfan  Sep 26, 2017 ]
Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget. [ Kenny  Sep 25, 2017 ]  Staff
